Monitor Blanks Out During Any Directx9.0 Games

Hello there! Here's my problem, at random times during games, (most often games using directx 9.0 cause this) my monitor will go blank, display a no signal screen and will not be able to be turned back on. However the sound continues for a little bit and then stops. The problem is not the monitor, as I have tried it with another monitor which narrows it down to the video card. As indicated in my specs my Vcard is a Geforce 4 Ti4200 64mg. There isn't really a consistent time frame in which the errors occur, it could be anywhere from 5 minutes of playing to 5 hours. I have tried every possible version of drivers (after uninstalling previous of course)and yet the problem still crops up. You are my last hope!!! Thanks In Advance.

Hi,
Try increasing the AGP Aperture size in bios to 128........
It sounds like the card is running out of TEXTURE memory........

  • MacBook Pro 9,1 External Monitor Blanks Out?

I have a 15-inch, Mid 2012 MacBook Pro with a 2.3 GHz i7 processor, which I purchased last December. For some reason my external monitors blank out about 1-3 times per day. As far as I can tell the symptons are not reproducable. It just seems to randomly happen.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what was the solution?
    Thanks!

Are you sure it is not a hardware problem? A bad cable or a poor connection?
I would try this after eliminating hardware causes.
Go to System Preferences / Displays. Verify the settings are correct, and correct or not change them arbitrarily - just move the settings back and forth - and then set them back where you want them.
    Now reset the PRAM:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • MacBook Pro/Thunderbolt Monitor blanking out

I have a MacBook Pro with 2 Thunderbolt monitors.  My system is connected up like this:
MacBook Pro (running in clamshell mode) -------> Thunderbolt Port on MBP -------> Thunderbolt Display ------> Built in Display Thunderbolt Cable ------>Thunderbolt Display 2.
I also have a Thunderbolt disk drive attached to a thunderbolt port on the back of display 2.
I have a couple of problems every now and then.  At times that second display blanks out for a second.  I have noticed, it is most likely to happen when I put some IO on that thunderbolt disk drive.  It just seems to me like the bandwidth of thunderbolt should be able to handle this.
Secondly.  Sometimes when I boot up, the system considers that second display as the first which screws up my screens.  I usually have to reboot to get it to work right.  I notice that if I boot up with my MBP open, the system always considers the 2nd monitor in the chain the first display. Seems like it would always default to the first monitor.
Any help you could provide would be appreciated,
    Rob

The Thunderbolt drive should be the first device on the chain, with the Displays being the last devices on the chain.
That should solve both of the problems.
If not, call back or post in the Apple Thunderbolt Display forum.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Screen Blanking Out During Phone Calls - Solution

Previously I noticed many posters complaining about a problem with their iPhone screen blacking out during phone calls. I think I may have found the solution, or at least a solution. I have been advised by the Apple Store technicians that the case I use (and indeed, many cases that are sold in the Apple Store), are so opaque that they block the sensor found near the earpiece. This is the sensor that tells the iPhone screen to black out when it is next to your ear, and to light up when it is away from your ear. Because it cannot sense through the case, it still thinks it is next to your ear and hence keeps the screen blacked out. And sure enough, when I took my iPhone out of the case, the problem disappeared.
Now here is the question - has anyone got experience with a good case that does not cause the above problem? And those who do have a problem case - have you been able to return or exchange it with the manufacturer?

You have this product - which is specifically designed for the iPhone 3G?
    http://www.iskin.com/revo2_features.html
This is the case I've used with my iPhone 3G for the last 6 months or so with no problem.
There is an iSkin Revo for the first generation iPhone, which is not designed for the iPhone 3G since the proximity sensor and light sensor with the iPhone 3G are in a different location than the location for these sensors with the first generation iPhone.

  • Monitor blanks off during boot up.

After zapping the PRAM on my G4 (AGP, Ati rage 128 pro) my monitor now blanks off just after the Apple logo in the boot up sequence. The monitor is a Hewlett Packard HPw19 flat screen. In this blank state the monitor shows the message "Attention - Input Not Supported". I'm guessing that zapping the PRAM has switched OS X into a screen resolution that the monitor can't handle. SO....my problem is... how can i switch screen resolution of the video card etc when i cannot use the display? :-/
    thanks for any help/ideas

I eventually fixed this by installing a fresh system to the 2nd harddisk - this system booted fine so i could then switch screen resolution and boot from the original system again. Had i had a spare monitor i could have booted from that, switched screen resolution, then plugged in the original monitor. I think it must be an issue with the HP w19 not being 100% ok with OS X.

  • Monitor backlight comes on briefly, then blanks out

I'm using a COMPAC PRESARIO laptop that's running WINDOWS XP.  I've had the system 7 years & had a couple viruses that were supposedly cleaned up, but it was done by someone else so I'm not sure of this.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION & CORRECTION EFFORTS TO DATE:
When the computer is turned on the COMPAC logo comes up, but soon blanks out, though not thoroughly on occasion, just goes real dark, with images faintly visible.  Unfortunately, the behavior is not consistent, sometimes not lighting at all, other times as previously described, not visible at all, or visible up to WINDOWS logo page, then blank.  If power is disconnected for 48 hours or better it will sometimes remain visible for a period of time, so long as it doesn't enter hibernation mode, though that trick hasn't worked recently; then the above problems repeat.  I have connected a COMPAC FS7600 monitor to it to see if it is indeed a monitor problem, but that also blanks out after WINDOWS logo displays, prior to reaching log-in stage, the monitor power button going from the green it has while visible to the amber that signals a disconnect (I think).  I've been forced to do hard shutdowns repeatedly, resulting in the "Windows encountered a problem with the last start-up" & have tried the "last working configuration" option, but that hasn't helped, so I'm at a loss on what to try next.
One of the answers here indicated the backlight could be replaced.  If so, how would I go about that if it comes to that?
I am a freelance illustrator & writer, whose work & income depend on a working system, so I'm currently unable to produce the products clients desire; as such, this problem is imperative to correct.  Any & all assistance will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hello @darenderer ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're having issues with the display on your notebook going blank.
If the issue persists on an external monitor chances are the issue is not hardware related, though when it goes dim and is barely visible that does sound like a bad backlight which is kind of strange.
We can test this by trying to load the BIOS. If the BIOS loads and displays properly this would tell us the hardware is OK. To access the BIOS tap F10 while the notebook boots up. If this is displaying OK you may need to restore the default BIOS settings which is usually done with F9 while in the BIOS. You should see the keyboard shortcut in the bottom right corner of the screen to confirm this shortcut.
If the BIOS does not display you could be looking at a hardware issue. The issue being intermittent like this might suggest a bad connection to the backlight or display. You can see how to remove and reconnect these connections in the Maintenance and Service guide available in the User Guides section of your products support page here: HP - Drivers & Downloads.
It would help to know which product and operating system you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?

  • My iphone blanked out and will not cut on i tried holding the power button and the home button any advice?

my iphone blanked out and will not cut on i tried holding the power button and the home button any advice?

    Hey there mello12,
It sounds like you are not able to turn on your phone. You should use these steps in the following article to help resolve it, or setup service if needed:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Video cuts out during games - Black screen

    HI,
I've been trying to troubleshoot a problem for the past few months. I've searched these forums and several others without much luck.
    System:
    MSI P6N SLI
    Intel Core 2 6420
    Silverstone ST75ZF 750w (quad +12v rail)
    EVGA 8800GTS --> PNY Geforce 9800 GT XR8
    Mushkin DDR2 800 1gb x2 = 2gb total --> new 1gb x2
    Viewsonic VX1940w 19" LED w/ DVI
Onboard sound --> Creative XFI gamer card
x1 HDD SATA, x1 DVD RW
Playing games like Bioshock causes the monitor to go black when I encounter flashing explosions. IE Bioshock, after each death, right after the screen turns to white, the monitor goes black every time while the game continues. Cannot tab out to reset video; I have to have power cycle the monitor in order to have the video come back. Also happens on Combat Arms when I get hit with a flashbang grenade.
I changed the video card from the 8800 to the 9800 because the 8800 was extremely hot. 90C! Changing it out for the 9800 seemed to fix one game, not Bioshock or Combat Arms though. The 9800 runs cool, 50C max.
CPU runs no higher than 35C. Memory - did x86 memtest. 3 passes, no errors. I swapped out the current set of Mushkins for another set, didn't solve it. Nothing's overclocked or manually adjusted. Air-cooled case also swapped for the Antec 900; there's plenty of circulation.
I turned off the onboard sound and put in a Creative XFI card. No help. Swapped out the wifi card also - G --> N.
I've changed everything except for the mobo, CPU, power, and monitor. None of these I look forward to replacing so, MSI peeps, help!~
    Thanks for reading.

    Hello and welcome,
In bios, what is the frequency of your PCI-E bus, it should be 100.
Did you try new drivers? Sometimes its a driver issue, since its only in a few games.
Remove ALL drivers files, with for instance drivercleaner, reboot and install the latest ones from Nvidia site.
Also, patch the games to the latest version, sometimes its a game problem.
And last, try your computer on a different screen and see if problem persists
    Hi DaLoona,
    Thank you for your reply.
    PCI-E Freq. = 100
Drivers= I have updated before to the newest drivers and wiped the previous with Drivercleaner but no difference noticed. I will try again with the latest drivers to be sure.
Different monitor = yes, I will check that eventually.
    Thanks again,
    Bastiat

  • [Solved] Screen blanks out after quitting X

    Hello everyone.
I don't use any login manager such as GDM or Slim, I just start X from the terminal when I need it. However, after installing Arch the last time (new hdd), every time I exit X (XFCE 4 is my window manager) the screen blanks out. I know the system is still responsive, because if I type startx or reboot, it works. Calling startx wakes the monitor again. However, I don't need X all the time, sometimes I prefer not to use it.
I haven't dealt with this before and searching for a solution didn't help - nvidia users used to have this issue until a particular driver update.
However, I have an ATI card (HD 5750) and I use the xf86-video-ati driver.
Appending vga=773 to kernel options changes the resolution (of my ttys) but it doesn't solve the issue.
I'm kind of clueless about how to proceed, so any hints and tips would be welcome.
    Thanks

It's a long thread, but be sure to read it all carefully <joking>
    Thanks, I missed that repo
The catalyst driver doesn't have the issue, so as far as it works, the issue is resolved.

  • Full screen preview blanked out in from options in audio video settings?

    Hi all,
Am running FCP6 and have lost the option to preview fullscreen in the audio video settings menu. It is literally missing, as an option, though the space the option inhabited is still there. Only options I have are to preview via firewire to my CRT monitor. I have tried to refresh AV devices and all frames, but doesn't seems to help/work.
    Any suggestions?
    Many thanks,
    -Tom

Hi David and thanks for your suggestion. I gave it a try and no luck. Its just the same. I have no options in video playback at all unless I connect my deck and then I have only the via firewire options, the deck provides. BTW, I know its the wrong forum, but I have the same blanking out situation in the output filed in MOTION.
Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • X220 Screen Blanking out

    Hi,
I have a problem on my X220 where the screen blanks out.
    Here's how it happens.
First, the system hangs, noticably (like freezes for about half a second)
Then the screen goes completely black
    And then comes back on
None of my programs are closed or reset (Chrome, Gtalk etc.) and only thing that seems to be different is that the Lenovo Power Manager/Wireless Manager Icons seem to have reset.
Anybody know what could be causing this?
(if it matters, I have my pagefile disabled, but have 8GB of ram installed.  I closely monitor my ram usage and it has never been above 4.2 GB)

    AT: tocirahl
I had the same issue you describe. After booting into WIndows the system blanks a few times and eventually hangs. Sometimes I can just see a popup appearing showing "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered".
The strange thing is that my system has this issue ever since I got yhe machine and first powered it on. Even completion of the factory windows installation was not possible due to this crash. I found out that when the Graphics Driver was installed the system would crash.
I have send it back for repair yesterday and I am still waiting to hear the cause of this blanking/crashing issue. Quite anoying because the system is not usable at all.
Any suggestions what this issue can be?!

  • Somehow my pictures in the iPhoto library are blanked out

I have just been updated my Mac and the iphoto to 11 v. 9.2. I have switched to iCloud and is now using photostream. I had a lot of pics I started streaming and during I was editing the pics. from our vaction. Suddenly I'm told that the iPhoto library has an error and needs to be updated. I let the MAC do so, and then suddenly all my pictures in my iPhoto are blanked out. At this time all my 1000 pics are still not all streamed, but iPhoto it is still streaming though I can't see any pictures in the photolibrary??? I can only see empty squares where the pics were supposed to be. I then check my iPhone and I see that pictures at still streamed from iPhoto. Then I search for my pics in "Finder" and it seems they are still there however I would like to get them back in the same order as before?? Also I made a half made photobook, but the pictures in the book are also blanked out? Can anyone help?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Does anyone know how to solve my Ipad from blacking out during apps?

My IPad is blacking out during apps and going back to the main screen.  It will do it in Outlook, Internet as well as games.  Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Sometimes its bescause you have to much memory being used up. Id try:
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the bottom. Hold your finger down on any app until they wiggle. X out of any apps you are not using.
    2. Reboot. Hold the home and power button at the same time. Ignore the red slider. Until the screen goes black and the apple logo appears.
Try your game or app again. I know if you have a bunch of stuff running in the background, and run a game like infinity blade or a high processing game. The app will close on you.
