Monitor FLV download

Can anyone tell me how to do this? It seems like it should be
incredibly simple. I started trying about 4 hours ago and thought
I'd be done in 4 minutes...
I have an FLVplayback component that loads and plays an FLV
file. Grand. What I want to do is monitor the loading progress and
trigger a function at an arbitrary point. I want to make something
happen when, say, 33% of the video is loaded.
The attached code does not work. I've tried a hundred
variations of it and all of them call "doSomething()"
instantly instead of waiting until the a certain amount of
video is loaded.
Anyone know how to do this (or if it's even possible with
AS3)?

It's not coming up as zero. It's actually coming up as this
seemingly arbitrary number that isn't related to the size of the
FLV file at all.
I'm still baffled by this, but I managed to find a crude
workaround. The following code works and is meeting my needs for
the time being, but I would still like to know if anybody finds a
"right" way to do it, since adding in timers for this sort of thing
seems obtuse.

A collection of FLV downloader, FLV player, and FLV converter for Mac
Are you prepared to download FLV videos from YouTube, Google Video, metacafe, Yahoo! Video, Reuters.com, and many other video websites to play on your Mac or portable players, or do some further editing with certain editors? In my experience, assuming you have this idea, you must take advantage of three kinds of tools, including FLV downloader, FLV player, and FLV converter to achieve the goal.
Of course, I am not speaking this to depress you, but to share my collections of these tools to show my kindness. Sure, just for people who have these needs.
At first, I’ll introduce you several FLV downloaders for Mac, I have tried all of them, and basically they can achieve my goal of downloading FLV videos online.
    Free FLV downloaders for Mac:
    Web Video Downloader for Firefox
    Free Video Downloader for Mac
    Free YouTube Downloader for Mac
I also know some free FLV players, and recommend them to you here, hope they can assist you to play FLV videos on your Mac smoothly.
Free FLV player, Mac OS X:
    Adobe Media Player
    Wimpy FLV Player
QuickTime, after installation of the Perian video plugin
    SWF & FLV Player
    CorePlayer
(Tip: the above pieces of software can easily be searched in Google, so I do not give you the links here. I’m sure you can get them with ease.)
Well, we have gone through the FLV downloaders and FLV players in the above passages, now it’s time to introduce you a FLV converter for Mac. This program I recommend is Pavtube FLV Converter for Mac, which can perfectly convert FLV videos to a wide range of video formats, so that you can do whatever you like with the resulted videos, such as playing on your iPod, iPhone, BlackBerry, PSP, Apple TV, etc. or exporting to iMovie, Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express to do further editing, or doing something else as you like. But how to use it? You may ask me. Take it easy, a step-by-step instruction is involved in the following part.
    1. Download, install and run this program
A sky-blue interface will be shown to you as follow:
    2. Add files, set output format and destination folder
Input FLV files to it by clicking button “Add”, and select a format as the output format in the drop-down list of “Format”, meanwhile, you can press “Browse” to specify the destination folder or just use the path set by default.
    3. Set advanced settings
Click button[b] “Settings”, the following interface will pop up. You can change the parameters like screen size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate, etc. to optimize the output videos.
    4. Convert
This FLV Converter for mac can definitely complete the conversion at a swift speed with excellent quality, also it do not have the problem of audio-video out of sync. Therefore you need not worry about these issues. Moreover, if you want to add watermark as your own logo or reserve your copyright, you can totally do it with this program.
Ok, the introduction to the three kinds of tools which you may need while dealing with FLV videos is over, sincerely hope they can deliver you useful information, because you know, it’s my original intention.

    Hi Greg,
So if I understand correctly, your findings are:
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Flash Media Interactive Server = Jerky Video
Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Flash Media Interactive Server = Smooth Video
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Wowza = Smooth Video
And what about Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Wowza?
Also, if you could check the network traffic to confirm if it's Flash Player causing the issue or it is receiving it like that from FMIS.
    Cheers

  • Prevent FLV download without embedding in SWF

I've got a site with quite a few videos. They're watermarked but I'm finding that they're being reposted to YouTube. Obviously, for legal reasons, I'd like to prevent this. My budget is small (nothing) and I'm having problems finding a media server host that is affordable and will allow me to host several GB worth of video files.
So, I'm looking for a way to prevent users from downloading my FLVs (or at least making it difficult for the average user).
    Ideas? Advice?

If you specify a URL in the "browse.." field when creating a Rich Media Annotation, Acrobat will NEVER embed the video. It embeds the player widget and passes it the URL, so every time the document is viewed the user downloads or streams the video direct from the remote server.
Using Adobe software, Rich Media Annotations do not need any external software to run - Flash Player is embedded into Acrobat and Adobe Reader 9 and later, in fact even if Flash Player has been installed externally (as a browser plugin), the PDF file will NOT use it.

  • Is there a way for FireFox on Android to Observe or Monitor File Download Completion?

I would like to create a plugin/extension on FireFox Mobile for Android, that will execute a command once a File download is completed. Ideally I would like to call some service on Android and notify it with any download completion. The call to the service requires the following parameters:
    - Source domain, like google.com
    - File name
    - Location saved on local device
In Desktop firefox I think hooking into file download action can be done via nslDownloadManager. Is there an equivalent for firefox mobile?

    Hi,
So, I'm not sure if I have the answer to your question, but the downloads manager has changed in the new Firefox 14 (which is currently in Nightly).
So, you might download Firefox for Android from http://nightly.mozilla.org to see if the downloader does what you're thinking to create in your add-on.
I think you would want to create your add-on for the new native version anyways, since it is soon to be released and basically changes everything. We are hoping it will go to beta in the coming weeks, so nightly will change quite a bit each day between now and then and is still unstable.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

  • How do you monitor required JAR(s) being downloaded?

    Hi there,
I'm currently re-developing an existing signed applet (Swing / 1.4) to offer advanced image manipulation features.
As a result there is a massive increase in the size of download and the amount of JARs to be downloaded from 1 (app 50kb) to 3 (app total 2MB) as I have to include the JAI.
Can anyone tell me is there a way of monitoring the downloading of the JARs from the applet itself or perhaps an external means so that I can display a progress monitor for the user while the application is loading?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fergus.

If you are using 1.4 you can specify in your applet tag structure that you wish to include a progress bar for your applet. Moreover you can provide a descriptive message to appear as your applet is loading...
You specify this information using the param tags within your applet or object tag.
    <param name = "progressbar" value = "true">
<param name = "boxmessage" value = "Please wait while the applet loads.">

ok, everytime i download something the download window pops up, so i let it download and i like to keep it open so i can monitor my downloads. now, the problem is when i close the current firefox browser window and try to re-open a new one. my firefox browser window starts lagging/hangs very bad when i open up a new browser window. i have my settings set up to clear my history everytime i close my firefox, so i was wondering why it does this? is it because my history gets cleared and i still have my download window opened?

Have a look at this post, see if it is of any help (though related to Vista, but same issue can be there with Window 7 also)

  • "Activity window" in Safari no longer works to download YouTube videos. Why not? Workaround?

For years I have used Apple's recommended standard technique whenever I wanted to download a Flash video embedded in a YouTube page to my hard drive:
    - Open a YouTube page and click on the video's "play" button to get it started;
    - Press command-option-A to then open up Safari's "Activity Window" which lists all the components of the page;
    - Find on the list the component for the loading Flash video, which is usually much larger (measured in MB rather than KB) than all the other components, and also is usually still in the process of loading, so it's easy to spot;
    - Double-click the component's name on the list in the Activity Window, and voila, the video downloads to my hard drive.
This "trick" is described everywhere as THE standard way to download YouTube videos (and similar page components); and I have used it successfully for many years.
HOWEVER, sometime very recently (not sure when, exactly -- a few weeks or months ago) YouTube has changed the way its pages are coded, so that this technique no longer works. When I open the Activity Window, instead of seeing one large loading video file that's easily identifiable, I see a whole series of large files, all exactly 1.7mb big (no matter how large the file size of the actual video in question is), and they constantly increase in number -- at first there are two such files, but over the seconds and minutes more and more appear. Furthermore, many files with no named size are constantly loading and then disappearing. And here's the whole point: I've tried double-clicking on ALL of these files, dozens of ways on dozens of YouTube pages, and none of the are the video file I seek and none of them cause the file to  download to my hard drive.
If I click on one the mysterious 1.7mb components, I indeed get a ".flv" downloaded to my hard drive, but it's not actually a Flash video; clicking on its downloaded file icon just brings up a blank box or an error message saying that it's not really a video file at all. I think it's some sort of "decoy" file or something to do with streaming Flash code.
To see what I mean, just go to YouTube, load any random video page, and then open Safari's Activity WIndow and try to download the video that way.
This happens on an iMac running Safari 5.1 on OSX 10.6.8, and also on a MacBook Pro running Safari 5.0.2  on OSX 10.6.5, and on a few other new-ish Macs I tested it out on, but failed to note their version numbers.
I'm presuming that this problem is not specific to my computer, but is caused by the way that YouTube altered the background code for their pages. I don't know if the glitch is an intentional attempt by YouTube to prevent downloads, or if it is an accidental "bug" of the new code. Either way:
How can I fix the problem? Is there some other lesser-known built-in way for Safari/Mac to download the new kind of YouTube videos? Or is there some reliable freeware or shareware or plug-in or extension or whatever for Safari that would enable YouTube downloading?
I tried a freeware program called "Evom" that was highly touted, but it too was thwarted by the new YouTube code and failed to extract any videos from the YouTube page, even though that's what the application was designed to do.
As a side note, I will say that I also have (though rarely use) FireFox for Mac, and the "Unplug" plug-in installed on it, and that ALSO "broke" recently and no longer has the capacity to recognize or download YouTube videos, even though previously it worked fine. This is why I think the issue is not specific to my set-up or computer, but is due to a change in YouTube's underlying code.)
Any help with an explanation, solution or workaround would be much appreciated (by me and by millions of others who I assume are facing the same problem!).

    Carolyn:
I just now did exactly as you recommended. Result? No change.
Even after trashing the files and restarting and everything else, the Activity Window and YouTube behave exactly as they did before.
(I had actually previously tried something very similar to your recommendation, and it didn't have any effect then either.)
In case it's helpful, here's an example of what one of the mystery components that load endlessly in the Activity Window is listed as:
    http://s.youtube.com/s?rendering=software&lact=102489&decoding=&rt=112.382&et=11 0.829&tsphab=1&st=69.939&tspne=0&tspfdt=262&nsiabblmin=62945.000&nsidf=2&tabsb=1 &ad_flags=0&h=360&nsiabblmean=72646.865&md=1&docid=zPxFu7taftE&bc=15194849&csipt =watch5ad&ad_event=3&el=detailpage&hasstoryboard=1&vid=72A5TVVpDgRoXDV3HvMeKPjLx BFdU61DC&fmt=34&cr=US&sd=BD075E8E6HH1336502192683396&vtmp=1&nsiabblmax=79054.000 &hl=en_US&ns=yt&nsivbblmax=774478.000&referrer=None&sidx=0&hbd=7790924&w=480&hbt =2.751&cid=6&sendtmp=1&sst=0&cfps=25.974025974025974&screenw=1440&mt=0.6&vq=auto &playerw=640&playerh=390&slots=sst~0;sidx~0;at~2_3&scoville=1&at=2_3&volume=100& art=1.842&mos=0&plid=AAS_iqoqfi0mjNc0&fs=0&nsivbblc=208&nsivbblmin=561638.000&bd =931267&allowed=1_1,1_3,2_1,2_3&bt=7.441&fvid=bNz97ILtwqc&screenh=900&len=127.92 &vw=480&nsivbblmean=668895.024&nsiabblc=208&vh=360&fexp=912001,914050,913539,919 306,907217,901802,906507
