Monitor viewing area after security update

Last week I installed the most recent 10.4 security update. Since then, the viewable area of my monitor has decreased. Specifically, the veiwable area has shifted down below the viewable area of the screen. I adjusted this as much as I could with the monitor's settings, but it is still low. If I matters, I'm running a quad G5 with a LaCie 120. I was having no problems like this of any kind before I did the update. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? thanks
Mac OS X (10.4.7)

After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.
This is boot camp problem, because in other normal notebooks (e.g. SONY VAIO, Lenovo with Windows 7) the gadgets are working normally.
I am attaching the screen shot of Desktop Gadgets and Security updates of Windows 7.
    Kindly solve this issue ASAP.

Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?

  • Office 2013: where the heck are the security updates hiding?

I built a deployment for Office 2013 yesterday.  The source files were downloaded from Microsoft, with SP1 integrated.  This is *not* a "Click to Run" deployment.  I used the Office Customization Tool to make a few changes (we're
not using OneDrive, so that piece isn't getting installed.  I disabled the "First Run" and Customer Experience stuff, and disabled RSS Feeds and SharePoint integration.  And I put in our volume license key.  Overall it's a pretty vanilla
    build.)
I wanted to include all available security updates since SP1 has been released, and stick them into the "Updates" folder of my deployment.  So after I installed Office 2013 x64 on my Windows 7 x64 system (the base package that I built installs
just fine), I went to Windows Update to see what was available.  There is nothing there.  I rebooted, and tried again.  Still nothing.  If I go into one of the Office 2013 apps, and go to File -> Account, I do *not* have any "Update"
    buttons or options.
If I go to Windows Update in my Control Panel, and click "Change Settings", I have two things checked.  "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates", and "Allow all users to install updates on this
computer."  There are no other options to look for alternative Microsoft products, or at least no options that I can find.  This is Windows 7 x64 SP1, fully patched.
I know that there have been security updates released for Office 2013 since SP1 came out in February 2014.  I manually downloaded a security patch for Lync 2013, and installed that MSP onto this test system with no
issues.  So there are applicable security updates out there.  So why in the world can't I find the updates through the normal mechanisms?  Ideally, we'd want for end users to be able to install security updates manually in an
emergency, but either I'm missing something, or that is not possible in Office 2013.  Hopefully distributing Office 2013 updates through SCCM will work, but from what I'm seeing so far, I'm not sure the machines will be "detected" as having
Office 2013, because right now it can't even scan itself against Windows Update for that product.
Thanks for any input...I'm quite baffled at how the update routine is supposed to be functioning in Office 2013.  I think the missing link is why I can't choose to search for "other" Microsoft products from the Windows Update panel.
    The option/checkbox is totally gone.

    Hi,
By default Windows Update only updates Windows itself. To get updates for Office and for any other Microsoft products as well, you will need to upgrade your Windows Update to Microsoft Update.
On Windows Update panel, click "Find out more" link to install Microsoft Update.
    Hope this helps.

  • Applications not responding apparently after Security Update 2007-009

Mail, iTunes, Skype, MSN Messenger, MainMenu, Emule, Safari and god know what else aren't responding after Security Update 2007-009.
    Hi,
I recently purchased a new phone that does not work with macs, so I bought an application from Feisar to make it work. The application isn't freeware, so I think it is very unlikely that it bogused my system. Anyway, I installed the software, but only afterwards noticed it didn't work for my phone model with the USb interface, only through bluetooth, which I don't have. Moreover, and, in my opinion, more importantly, I also downloaded and installed security update 2007-009. After the update, I mandatorily restarted OS X and instantly noticed Mail, iTunes, Safari, Skype and Messenger not working. I click on them on the dock, they bounce (usually once, but it has occured to be more) and nothing happens. I don't get the little arrow below the icon. I see the applications in the applications folder, so they are not missing. I searched and searched on the internet and, apparently it is, to say the least, herculeanly complicated to downgrade from a software update. I tried to repair permissions and it didn't work. I tried the apple hardware test and everything came out perfect. I restarted many times and the same keeps happening.
So I wasted half my day yesterday trying to fix this, looking into forums and trying to talk to people about it and there it absolutely no answer. Yesterday I installed the programs necessary to sync my phone in my wife's macbook and nothing bad happened. So I'm guessing it isn't about the phone plugins I installed. I've tried to download combo updates but they crash as soon as I try to install them - I even tried to install a 10.4.10 update.
This is the error message I get:
    Command: Installer
    Path: /Applications/Utilities/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer
    Parent: WindowServer [114]
    Version: 2.1.9 (104)

I put part of in on google to check if there was anybody discussing anything related and someone suggested - bizarrely enough - updating adobe reader. I did it just in case and, of course, it didn't work. I repaired permissions a million times already, I rebooted in safe mode, I scaned the computer with apple jack (which reapetedly said that I had a "fan failure!"), I verified the disk with diskutility - which showed nothing. I tried downloading an anti-virus (ClamXav), but I couldn't open it also, I trashed my prefs, I deleted all internet plugins, but still.... nothing.
The most likely line to follow here is the "fan failure" message in apple jack. I looked inside my g5 and all fans except for the one close to the Hard Drives aren't spining. I'm not sure this means they aren't functional or whether the temperature isn't high enough for it to be turned on. Temperature must be around 26-28 degrees Celsius today. There is nothing on the internet about that fan failure that's close enough to my case.
I'm about to quit and take it to the very expensive - yet reliable - authorized tech support apple has in Rio. Any ideas, anyone?

Maybe it is a security update thing! I have had similar troubles with my CS2 and other simple apps like TextEdit not opening, just doing that single bounce... I have tried EVERYTHING and now, after reinstalling my entire system, have lost access to my own user profile.
I'm assuming you have tried starting up with your original system install disk in the computer, while you turn it on, hold the option key, it will allow you to run another hardware check, as well as to do an archive install if it comes down to that.
good luck, please let me know if you find out something else that might be causing the problems... i've noticed that alot of mac threads have similar probs listed.

  • Mail 2.0.5 CRASHES ON OPEN after Security Update 2005-009(Tiger Client)

I'm trying to figure out how to fix this.
I rebooted into a techtool pro e-drive and repaired permissions (as well as some other repairs to the drive, etc), but it still is crashing.
I created a new user and opened mail just fine there.
So... it is something in my account. Not sure exactly what to do next?

I'm having the same exact problem. (See Mail 2.0.5 crashes when I get new mail). I deleted my preferences & my junk mail settings, to no avail.
A remarkable number of other people are posting with similar problems, just in the past week or so alone, and as far as I can tell, no one has figured it out. There is definitely a bug here. I have a hunch that it may be related to a recent software update. I'm going to post this to the other threads in hopes of garnering some attention from Apple.
For posterity's sake, I am connecting to a Gmail account, a POP account, and a .Mac account.

  • Rosetta Problems after Security Update 2012-001

My crack team of sys admins and I have devised a method for resolving some of the issues regarding the Security Update 2012-001 and Rosetta.
    http://www.educate-it.org/content.php?130-Rosetta-Issue-after-Security-Update-20 12-001
Click this link for an Installer that will revert the files necessary for some Rosetta apps to run after the Security Update. This is a band-aid and is only recommended in emergency situations. Apple is currently working on a fix, but until that happens, we are stuck with reverse-engineering their update. I hope this helps those in distress from this update.

Backup files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
If you have TM, or a option key bootable clone use that to erase and restore from.
If not, c boot off the 10.6 disk, use Disk Utility to >Repair Disk and Permissions,  (do not format or erase!!) and simply re--install 10.6 from the disk. Note: Does not touch your files and most programs, but backup your files regardless.
Note: If Disk Repair gives a error that is not repaired, then you have to consider erasing the drive (with Zeros) and try reinstalling 10.6 fresh or replacing the drive.
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8, it should not include the security update at this time (second pass it might show) because it was just released and they might need to pull it. (they need to pull it)
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that installed kext files into OS X, you'll know, they won't work.
If you get gray screen, hold the shift key and update your installed software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

  • Usb hard drive not loading after security update

usb hard drive not loading after security update
I can't seem to find any other posts about this problem.
I have three external hard rives connect by a USB hub to my iMac.
Problem is that if I turn on the hard drive(s) AFTER start up I get a message that the drive either was not recognized by the OS or that it was ejected unexpectedly.
I get the same issue but not all the time if I turn them on before I boot the iMac.
I used the disk drive utility to "repair" the drives but they always come back as "probably ok".
If I restart the iMac with the drives connected (on), it seems to work but not all the time.
A bit annoying as I am wondering if the drives are OK or not.
I don't always need the drives as they are for backing up images from my camera using Apreture.
This all began after i did the latest security update.
    is the update to blame?
    mahalo.

Yes, you can still use those instructions to reset the PRAM.
You said that you booted to your install disk and that your primary drive did not show up at the Select a Destination screen? That usually means that the computer is either not recognizing your partition, or it's not recognizing the hard drive itself.
Start with this article and follow all the steps even if you already tried them. I suspect that you'll get to step 4 and you'll end up having to call Applecare. If you haven't done those steps, they're most likely going to make you do them anyway, so you might as well get them done before the call.

  • Keyboard, keypad glitch after Security Update 2015-002

The overview is: keyboard problems developed shortly after Security Update-002 on Mavericks 10.9.5. I tried OS update to Yosemite; didn’t fix the problem. Reverted OS back to 10.9.5 using Time Machine for a backup date prior to the Sec Update; this fixed the problem.
Mac mini5,2, 16gbram, wired Apple Pro Keyboard (M7803, circa Mac Cube), Apple Wireless Keyboard, LMP Wireless Numeric Keypad, Apple Magic Mouse (A1296?) iPad 2
Within the past 2 days, Apple BT keyboard alpha keys stopped typing. During troubleshooting, I discovered that problems extended to BT keyboard, BT keypad, and wired spare USB extended keyboard. The BT keyboard pairs and works fine with my iPad. Here’s a list of the glitches:
    Apple Wireless keyboard:
      alpha keys NO INPUT
      space key NO INPUT
      Delete key works
      Force-Quit sequence works
fn, cntrl, opt, Apple, arrow keys, shift all work
      top row keys work
    LMP Bluetooth keypad:
      keypad: 1..4, 6..9 NO INPUT
keypad "5" registers a mouse click, NO INPUT
keypad "0" jumps to mouse cursor first press only, NO INPUT
      =/*-+ and arrows work
    Apple Pro USB extended keyboard:
num keys: 1..4, 6..9 NO INPUT
keypad "5" registers a mouse click, NO INPUT
keypad "0" jumps to mouse cursor first press only, NO INPUT
alpha keys and number row keys work
      keypad =/*-+ and arrows work
Besides proving the wireless keyboard works on my iPad, I reset PRAM with no improvement. (I had no problems with my Bluetooth Magic Mouse.)
Next step was OS upgrade via Software Update to Yosemite. All above glitches remained.
Next, I reverted to Mavericks 10.9.5 using a Time Machine OS backup dated prior to 9Mar15, the date of Security Update 2015-002. After this, both keyboards and keypad resumed working. Seems clear that the Security Update is the culprit, no?
I reported the issue to Apple via Support Chat.
I would like to eventually upgrade back to the Security Update and Yosemite but not when it breaks my keyboard. Perhaps I could skip over the Sec. Update and go to Yosemite? Any suggestions?

    Update:
The day after I reverted to 10.9 to repair keyboard glitches caused by Security Update 2015-002 (and persistent in Yosemite), Apple released Security Update 2015-004. Such a quick succession of -004 on top of both -002 and -003 was the hint to me that -004 contained fixes to the glitches.
I crossed my fingers and jumped back on the install-wagon. Yosemite 10.3 completed its second installation and my keyboards/keypads remain functional!

  • Views are not being updated

    Hello All,
I am a newbie to oracle dB.
I have an old VB6 application code that used to "talk" with Oracle dB (version 10g). The 2 machines used to be connected using the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver ("Provider=MSDASQL.1"). It used to run fine and all the dB's Views were updated automatically. We recently updated our Oracle to 11g running on Windows2008 r2 64bit machine. We are no longer using the Microsoft ODBC driver but the Oracle client (OraClient11g home1). The VB6 application seems to work OK, see all the records and all BUT, I noticed that all our Views are not being updated automatically anymore. I was wondering if any of you have any idea as to why this is happening and what should I do? I can always go back to the code and force the update on the all the Views but, I was hoping for a quick connection settings tweak if existed.
    Thanks

gWhat evidence do you have that views are not being 'updated'? Are you talking about materialized views? A normal view has nothing to 'update'. A view contains no data. It is nothing but a pre-defined query.

  • Rosetta crashes after Security Update 2006-003

The other day I installed Security Update 2006-003, and now a number of PowerPC applications crash the machine.
It's a funny crash, the mouse keeps moving and the capslock key goes on and off, but that's it. Nothing on the screen animates or updates. Windows will not move, dock does not do anything. cannot force quit or command-tab. The only option is to do a hard reset or hard shutdown.
    I found this article:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060517111924138&query=rosetta+crash
    I hope it's fixed soon!
    Matt

    Hello!
I'm glad I found your post -- a brand new Intel Core Duo 20" iMac is doing the same for me after Security Update 2006-003.
What I've found on this end so far is that Norton AntiVirus 10 for Macintosh seems to aggravate the problem. I had a system that was running fine (complete with NAV10) before applying the 2006-003 update. At first I thought the problem might be due to user error--maybe NAV wasn't quite ready for Intel Macs, but Symantec says it is after you get version 10.1 from LiveUpdate. (I did.)
I finally had to erase the hard drive and reinstall the entire operating system from the provided restore discs. After I did that and got the latest software updates, I tried again with NAV. It still caused the same problem...a complete lockup.
The first time around, only NAV seemed to cause problems. Other PowerPC-native programs running in Rosetta seemed to be OK. This second time around any PowerPC-native app running in Rosetta (after the install of NAV10) would lock the machine up completely, except for the mouse pointer. (I have also noticed that the machine still responds to being pinged over the network, and that Apple Remote Desktop 3 says it is online. So the crash isn't stopping everything from working.)
So my conclusion is that there is something seriously wrong with Security Update 2006-003 and Rosetta, and it may be made worse by NAV10 for Macintosh. In any case, I'm going to steer clear of this update for now.

  • After Security Update, unresponsive applications

I installed the latest security update " 2008-003 (PowerPC)" (1.0) " on my Tiger G4, and now I'm having troubles.
In Safari, I can scroll fine using the scroll bar, but if I hit an arrow key or the home key, I get the pinwheel wait cursor, and some of the time the force quit menu says it's "unresponsive."
In Activity Monitor, the down arrow key causes the problem. Again the scroll bar works fine.
In Terminal, I get the problem when I hit the up arrow key or F3.
In Style, the editor, there are no problems.
In DosBox, there are no problems.
In Help Viewer, there are no problems.
In ClamXav, things are very slow, but I didn't hit any keys to make that happen.
In Preview, I open several picures at once and click down arrow or up arrow, and get the problem. And the key doesn't take either (it doesn't move to the next or previous picture.)
Also, when I clicked on the word Preview in the menu bar, it took a few seconds to respond.
In TextEdit, I got the problem several times.
    - if I type ASDASD. The first few characters it received just fine, but on the sixth I got the pinwheel again.
    - I hit cmd-A and got the problem.
    - I typed "aaaaaaaa" and it worked.
    - I tried again in a new window, and the first character I typed caused the problem.
    - I tried again and it reproduced after many "ASDF"s.
    - I tried again and a single "A" caused the problem.
In Safari again, cmd-A did not cause the problem.

Disk Utility repairs Permissions when booted from your HD. In your case,
it sounds like problems with the Directory, in which case, you will need to
boot from your Install Disc. If that is not possible, at this time, then perhaps
you have a copy of the much better Disk Warrior. You will need the Disk, as opposed
to the Downloaded Version, because you can't boot from the Download.
One other alternative, is to Download a tool called Applejack. You can get that
from Version Tracker (I don't have the link) but Google Applejack and Version Tracker,
and you'll see it. It's an excellent tool to have, and Downloads and Installs, very
quickly. So, there are your options, and please post back when you're ready to do
the job, and you'll get plenty of help. Good luck.
