More BT speed rubbish... I think I am done this ti...

Here we are again, I have been having alot of dropouts or (router resets) for a while now and its always going off at the same times each day, I am on my 7th HH5 I have had 5 engineers out the last one actually fixed everything, my speed went back upto 75 Mbps and its been great for 4 months then it starts again... 3 more routers later they have now reduced my speed down to 64.55 Mbps again saying to stop dropouts though (its not dropouts is my router resetting) my "dropouts" are caused by the routers firmware not my line being unstable, 3 phonecalls later and im through to some high tier technical department where they run several tests having me unplug the TV etc saying that my wifi connection on my TV could be the problem with my speed, wait your router connection speed clearly states im connected at 64.55 Mbps so how is my wifi connection on the TV going to be causing the 10 Mbps speed loss.....
Exchange >>>> (connection speed 64.55 Mbps) >>>> router - Wired PC (was 75 now 64 (HH5 info page))
Exchange >>>> (connection speed 64.55 Mbps) >>>> router - Wireless TV (varied speeds don't care its only TV)
so I am really confused, my line is perfect all the people I spoke to said there is no problem with my line at all, all of them have said its a problem with the firmware on the router there is even a forum post stating there is a problem and they are looking into it yet bt had to reduce my speed back down to 64.55 Mbps to make my perfect line stable when its a firmware problem on the router, and my router is still resetting itself.
So I have from this moment cancelled all my BT services, once I have my cancellation bill in my hand I will be moving to a company who will not feed me rubbish about how reducing my speed will fix a firmware problem on my router, its like saying my TV puts itself on standby for no reason at all and its the electricity that comes down the wire to the house that's the cause of it not the TV.
If there is anyone that can help me before I change to sky (I was with sky for 20 years before changing to BT because of the speed) I like BT but not the rubbish they tell me that's for the people like my great gran who still think airplanes are magic.
I know someone will say well you are well within the speeds of your line well yes but when you have been getting 75 for 14 months pretty much and they reduce it to stabilize a line (again) that does not need stabilizing no want my 75 back.

My IPod no longer shuffles songs within playlists that are clearly set to shuffle.  It is about 3/4 full so I thought of maybe compressing the files to get more space.  Do you think that is the problem and if that might help?

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart.  As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on.  From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on.  Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending.  The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

  • Extra 256MB of RAM or 133mhz more processor speed?

Hello all, I am currently watchin an Ebay auction for a 667 mhz DA processor (i can just pop that in my DA and it would work right?) I am debating wether or not to buy the faster processor or a 512mb stick to replace one of my 256. What do you all feel would give me better performance? Processor or RAM?

Whats a good price for a used 667MHz CPU?
What can you find RAM for? 512MBs of PC133 seems to be about $70 bux US... (anyone have a cheaper RAM source?).
MacWorld (March 2006) has an article about the benefits of adding RAM. It was suggested that you could gauge the need for more memory by lauching "Activity Monitor" and checking the System Memory" activity under normal use conditions... if the amount of "Free" memory is less then 10% under normal use loads more RAM is called for. The article suggests that more Memory won't speed up the actual "number crunching" done by the CPU (it will still operate at the same clock cycle) but seek time for the numbers is reduced as frequently used code is in "fast memory" (as opposed to being on a hardrrive which is slower). More RAM means more fast memory. This is a good thing as it will improve the speed of app switching and general system performance. If CPU intensive work is to be done you might want the new CPU though...
Get both (but check the price of new CPUs from Fastmac, macsales (OWC), Giga and Sonnet.

  • More Upload Speed My Way?

Is it at all possible to ask for more upload speed, I'm currently at 0.8 and I pay exceeding amounts for my internet on unlimited. The upload is unnaceptably slow as I wish to begin streaming, I cannot even go onto tinychat/skype cam my friends, which is absolutely horrible. Thanks.
I also have previously asked for assitance with prevention against DDoS attacks, Port Forwarding ETC and the support has been horrible, which is not what I expect from a company claiming to be the fastest internet.

    Hi Chrisseh,
     1) please post adsl line statistics from your Homehub/router. see below for help on this.
    2) Can you please run a BT speed test (including IP Profile) http://speedtest.btwholesale.com (not beta version)[Best done with a wired, Ethernet, connection] After Quick Test is done you need to click "Further Diagnostics" to get IP Profile.
    ADSL Line Statistic Help:

  • Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled. This shows up even when I am not connected to a USB. what do you think the problem is?

Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled. - This is what shows up sometimes even when no USB is connected. What could be the reason?

Try a different USB cord, seen this many many times, its highly likely a damaged USB cord.
Restart the computer to redefine Port definition.  If still a problem

  • I am not much of a computer technician. I bought a time capsule thinking I could use this for an external hard drive and keep my MAC hard drive free. Was I mistaken? One I back everthing up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC?

I am not much of a computer technician. I bought a time capsule thinking I could use this for an external hard drive and keep my MAC hard drive free. Was I mistaken? Once I back everything up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC and then use my TC as my hard drive??

Once I back everything up on the TC, can I delete everything off of my MAC and then use my TC as my hard drive??
TC was designed to backup your Mac. The TC literature is pretty clear about this:
If your Mac's hard drive has a problem....it will sooner or later....you can use your backup on the TC to rebuild your Mac.
But.....if you move all of your data to the TC from your Mac....you only have one version of that data now, and it is on the TC.
Have you thought about what will happen when....not if....the TC has a problem?  Since the only version of your important data was on the TC, and the TC has failed......you lose all of your data.....because you have no backup.
A much better plan would be to add a USB or FireWire hard drive and connect it directly to your Mac. Move the data on your Mac over to the hard drive.
Then, the TC will backup both your Mac and the hard drive.  So, you have original data on on one drive and backups on another drive.
That would be a minimum backup plan. Most of us have more than one set of backups.

  • I was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ?

i was backing up my iPhone and importing photos onto iPhoto at the same time , then suddenly it says no more space available (i had 48GB before i do this and now i have 18GB) i can't find the back up or the photo anywhere , how can i delete them ? i dont need the pictures or the back ups , i want to delete them but they are not there

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • I turned on the passcode lock to come on in 1 hour.  It doesn't seem to be working.  I thought that this would make the Ipad 2 IOS 7 require me to type in a code after 1 hour.  Is my thinking not right on this?

As stated I turned on my passcode lock to come on after 1 hour of operation.  It doesn't work like I thought it would.  My thoughts were that it would go to the lock screen and then require a code.  Is my thinking not right on this?  What am i doing wrong?

The passcode will be requested after the device has been in sleep mode for one hour.  It does not turn off the device, nor is it a usage timer.

My hard drive has 70.93 GB available, yet when i have more than one internet tab open, i have to force quit google chrome because 'there is no more available application memory'. How can I solve this? I have a 2009 macbook pro running on 10.6.8. I have tried updating to mavericks through the mac app store but after it downloading for a day i got an error message saying there was a problem with the download. The same thing happens if i try to update itunes or the mac app store. After research, i have also tried repairing disk permissions, but every time they do get repaired the 'repair' button still appears, i'm not sure if it's because it was unable to repair the initial problems or if it just keeps detecting new ones.

2 GBs is a minimum in which you can do many things, but not concurrently. Be very careful to not install third-party add-ons, limit the number of applications you choose to enter in Login Items, run as few applications concurrently as you demand.
I would consider adding more RAM to your computer. Your model supports 8 GBs, so I would install that.

  • Anyone else have the issue where, after the 8,3 upgrade, you cannot access more than 1 exchange account on your iPhone? This is annoying to me as I need to access 4 daily and cannot due to this error.

Anyone else have the issue where, after the 8,3 upgrade, you cannot access more than 1 exchange account on your iPhone? This is annoying to me as I need to access 4 daily and cannot due to this error.
The first one, my private home email, works fine. With the other 3, I get the message "Cannot get mail: The connection to the server failed"
All were working fine before the 8.3 upgrade. I did try the old trick of making one minor change on the account and resaving, but that did not change anything. I even deleted my work account and re-entered it from scratch, but again, sadly, no luck. For the time being, I am successfully getting the email via IMAP, but this ***** compared to exchange. Anyone have any idea what is happening or if a fix is in the works?

Well, the one set up on exchange 2k3 is now working fine, although no changes were made on either the iPhone or the exchange side, so that's fun, but it still is throwing errors when connecting to the other 2 exchange accounts. The common elements are that both non-functioning exchange accounts are google apps for business accounts. So is one of the ones that's working, by the way. The settings on both accounts are the same as the one that's working, and both worked fine before the 8.3 upgrade. I have no issue accessing both of these accounts on my ipad which is currently on 8.2.x. If it's not the iphone OS at fault, I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

  • Upgraded from 10.6.8 to Mavericks last week on my MacBook Pro running the 2.4 GHz i5 and it's painfully slow on start-up- I mean, 5 minutes or more, to be fully functional... Is this normal?

Upgraded from 10.6.8 to Mavericks last week on my MacBook Pro running the 2.4 GHz i5 and it's painfully slow on start-up- I mean, 5 minutes or more, to be fully functional... Is this normal?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
