More Epson 1400 problems...

Besides the missing color profiles in Adobe InDesign CS3, I found another problem:
Printed a file from InDesign CS3 that printed just fine before Snow Leopard. Now, There is a 6 point by 6 inch white horizontal rule right in the middle of the page that should not be there.
The Epson color is actually pretty close; but, we cannot live with this white rule!

Hi there,
I have used Memorex brand only once, it burned 'successfully' but would not pplay on a CD player, however, it did play on a PC with iTunes... so I stopped using Memorex and switched to TDK's and haven't been disappointed...

  • Adobe CS3, Mac & Epson 1400 Printing Color Issues

So I've been reading the forums for some help on getting my new Epson 1400 to print colors properly and my attempts to send just PDF's to the printer also fail on color matching. Stuff sent to an actual press come out fine with the colors I'm working with through Illustrator, In Design and Acrobat, but when I try to print at home, I can't get a setting that works consistently from attempt to attempt. I have downloaded and updated the latest drives from Epson's site (but they are gibberish to me, GPHW? PSPP?) to no avail. It was suggested to print from Acrobat when all else fails, but I'm still having a heck of a time getting anything to remotely match a print done a week ago or more if the pantone colors are used.
So, I'm using 10.5.8 on a Dual processor, powerpc G5 with max memory and significant hard drive space. The printer is the Epson 1400. Any suggestions welcomed on how to get accurate color.. unfortunately it's critical because my own business collateral seems to shift to an awful color - the rest of my projects could probably get by, but not my business materials!
I believe I've tried every possible combination of settings on Acrobat and InDesign to try to get correct color with the supplied Epson printer profiles. What's funny is I used to have a low-end epson installed, like a 380 or something, and when I used those profiles, it got better color. I accidentally deleted them and can't figure out what might work better. I'm guessing some other printer's profiles might just work more effectively... And it sounds like upgrading to CS4 won't help (and might make things worse) .... is this a CS problem, or an Epson problem, or a mac problem???
    Help!

I have been rather fortunate, I have been getting excellent color matching on my Epson.
I am wondering about your settings when printing to the Epson, since that can make a difference in how the color is translated when printing.
You say the prints come out accurately when sent to the printer - BUT, you have also stated that this is from an actual press. Pantone colors do not always look the same when printed out in process, there can be a HUGE color shift. If your printer has one, look at his Pantone solid to process book so you can see the differences in your chosen colors.
I did look at yours and there is only a slight color shift, have you checked your CMYK settings for your spot colors on your computer? I remember having that issue before. The CMYK value I have for 3155 in my Pantone Solid to process is C:100 M:0 Y:24 K:38 and 397 is C:10 M:0 Y:100 K:11. If your printer has these settings, then their colors will be more accurate if they are double checking to make sure the correct pantone formula is being used.
In your print settings, are you printing a proof? what are you choosing for the Color Handling? I have been using Document RGB - sRGB IEC61966-2.1 with good luck. You may need to try those and see which profile works best for you.
    Hopefully this helps some.
Message was edited by: macgurl_70    I forgot to ask, it reads like you are having them printed on an offset press - the pantone colors will always be more vivid and correct since they are using a specially formulated ink and not a cmyk (or rgb) mix of colors. Also, when they are printing - the plates will print the spot color as one plate for that specific ink - and NOT four plates for the CMYK, giving them the most accurate color. No matter what printer you choose, it will not print EXACT pantone colors, so check on the shift in that pantone guide (I didn't see much of one, but they were definitely not as vivid).
Update: I just installed the Gutenprint drivers for my Epson, so my InDesign would print out correctly on large sheets of paper. I am working on color calibrating the output with that driver now.

  • Getting accurate color on Epson 1400

I just purchased a new Epson 1400. I am having trouble printing accurate colors. I set up an illustrator document with a a number of Pantone color blocks with each swatch converted to RGB and CMYK and it's native Pantone swatch from the color book. What's nice is that they all print the same, but they all look way off from the Pantone watch book, even with the correct CMYK values dialed in. The print dialogue has about 15 places to manage color and have no idea which should be turned on and which should not. Any words of wisdom on which settings will get me the most accurate color would be great.
    thanks!

What a fantastic resource, thank you! Most of his tutorials seem accurate except for one extraneous setting thats now included in the Print dialogue. There is Color Management but now there is also Color Matching. Not sure what to do with that COlor Matching setting. Trial and error i guess.
    thanks again

  • Print Error Msg re: "rastertoes" using Epson 1400 and Adobe Lightroom

I am unsure if this is a _Mac OS_ issue, an Adobe issue or an Epson issue. I am using an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 with Lightroom 2.6. I successfully printed a snapshot but all subsequent efforts produced the following error message through the Epson printer app:
    "Error/Library/Printers/Epson/InjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/M acOS/rastertoescpll failed"
Have reloaded Snow Leopard drivers from Epson, gone through variations of printer set-ups, re-booted, etc. Still the same message.
I would sincerely appreciate someone's help.

Deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder won't delete the Epson folder in /Caches. Did you do a search for this folder or manually try to find it? Are you looking in the hard drive's Library folder and not your home directory's?
As for "deleting the printer," I note that the Epson 1400 is still a pull down Print option in multiple apps. Is there a way to delete it so it doesn't show anywhere, or will the printer remaining attached (USB) to the computer cause it to be shown?
Go into System Preferences, Print & Fax Prefs, select the printer and hit the '-' sign at the bottom of the printer list.

How do I download an update, and how do I know it will discern that the Epson printer apps and drivers are missing?
Use Software Update under the Apple menu to download the update. The software will see that the printer is connected but that there's no software (since you deleted the /Library/Printers/EPSON folder), and it will ask you if you want to download the most recent update. Doing so will replace the contents of the Library/Printers/EPSON. After installing the update, restart, then re-add your printer using the Epson driver.
    Thanks,
You're welcome. I hope this helps. john

Do you have a TM backup or a clone? If so, erase the drive and restore with TM or clone back.
If not you'll have to reformat and re-install the OS that shipped with your Mac. If it shipped with Lion or ML you can do the restore from your Recovery Volume
EDIT: I assume you are saying that you just installed 10.8?

I just want to mention that if the DSL light isn't on, it is definitely the phone line, however it is not always the provider's fault. Remember they are responsible for the line from the pole to the house, but not the inside wiring. If your phone line is unplugged from the jack, the DSL light will not be on. To be sure that it is SBC's fault, go and test the connection at the d-marc box outside the house.
Take your laptop, your modem and a phone line and plug it in out there. If you don't get the DSL light, it is definitely their problem. If you do outside, but not in the house, and you call them out, you will get charged for the service call.
Also the built in ethernet cards, more commonly referred to as airport cards, are not really delicate per se, but the wire for the antennae connection is most definitely. Only if you removed yours which you would have to if you wanted to add RAM, would you have any reason to be concerned about possibly damaging it. SBC telephone tech support is always showing off their lack of knowledge.

  • No Paper  Types Available Epson 1400

I recently hooked up an EPSON 1400 to my Lion iMac and MBP. I downloaded the latest drivers from EPSON and have run Software Update (Apple). However, no where in the printer settings can I selecte the TYPE OF PAPER for output, such as Plain, Photo, Photo Glossy, Matte.
Why aren't any of these settings available under Lion for this printer? Are they hidden somewhere?
It would be extremely helpful to be able to tell the printer what type of paper I'm printing to.
    Anyone have any ideas?

If you don't have the media type setting as shown in my screenshot, your driver installation is not complete.  I checked both my Stylus Photo 1280 print window and a dummy SP 1400 printer installation.  They are the same as I have shown.
Delete your prnter from System Preferecnes > Print & Scan
    Delete the folder /Library/Printers/EPSON
    Delete the folder /Library/Caches/Epson
Unplug the printer's USB cable from your computer.  Wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in.
Have the system download and install a fesh copy of the drivers when prompted.

  • Communication Error with Epson 1400 on Airport

    Hey all,
I have my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 connected to my Airport and it used to work just fine under Tiger. Now I keep getting communication errors. The printer dialog finds the printer and says, "Printer is now on-line," but then there is a moment of pause and then the message "Communication Error" pops up under "Printer is now on-line."
My Epson R340, also connected to my Airport works just fine (although I did have to re-install it after upgrading to Leopard...thanks Steve).
I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Epson site. I deleted the printer from the print list and added it again.
    It didn't work. Any ideas.

I, too, have the same problem with Epson Picturemate Deluxe and Leopard. Sorry no solution but maybe more details of the problem will help to find a solution.
USB printing works fine but communication error occurs after a few seconds of printing via airport, almost as if there is an overflow of data. During USB printing, the printer pauses for a fraction of a second after printing about 20% of the file but then continues. It seems to do this in increments of 20% but always reaches the end. This was the same under Tiger. Under airport, it does not seem to continue after the first 20% of the file.
Epson claims Leopard comes with updated drivers. They are also available for download from Epson Europe (v. 3.09 for Picturemate but Picturemate Deluxe is not indicated)

  • Photoshop CS5 + Epson 1400 DVD Cover insert question

    Hey there,
I'm relatively new to the world of printing (video background) and I recently bought an Epson Stylus Photo 1400.
I'm trying to print DVD covers (10.733" x 7.25") onto A4 photo paper and can't seem to get it centered and/or borderless.
I'm always getting some clipping on either side and proportions are not ok.
    My document is exactly 10.733" x 7.25" at 300dpi. I created a custom paper size of 210mm x 297mm with 0mm border
on all sides, used the Epson rules of moving the left margin by 0.2" as from what I read on other forums is a problem with
almost all Epson printers on OSX, but still get some clipping on either or both sides.
Could anybody help me with that one?
    Thank you

If you're printing with "Borderless" there is an expansion applied to the image by the printer driver (so if you ask for 210 mm, you'll get 213mm or so) to make sure that you don't get any white borders on the paper.
Use a non-borderless paper size and trim it down with a paper-cutter afterwards if you want precise results, or turn off the expansion in the printer driver ("Print Settings") settings. Not sure where they hide that on the 1400.

  • Photoshop CC no longer recognizes my Epson 1400 after update.

I installed the most recent creative cloud update and now I whenever I try to print from Photoshop with my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 I get this message:"There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents."  I also cannot use the shortcut command P to print.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer and done all the updates.  I am using Mavericks 10.9.3Photoshop.  I have nver posted online so I hope I have posted this correctly.

The printer driver has a problem and needs to be updated to fix bugs in the driver -- and Epson has been having a LOT of printer driver problems on MacOS 10.9.

  • Epson 1400 won't print after Yosemite upgrade

I installed Yosemite and when I tried to print it says "printer not connected".  Even though the App store update showed it updated
I tried a variety of things and finally deleted all the Epson folders and unadded the printer.
Unfortunately nothing worked and now it wont even show the printer to add.
I am at a loss.  I really need to get stuff printed (brochure 11x17 stuff) and I can't get this too work.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Regarding you question.  The printer showed as usual on the Mac as ready to go but failed.  But then saw that no matter what I did it was showing as 'off line'. For me this isn't too unusual as I find that print jobs in a queue can be fouled when the only solution is to uninstall the printer and reinstall it or I have had to uncouple cables and unplug everything to start again that does the trick.  It can also be problematic when allowing the printer to 'sleep' and try to print and everything can go awry.  But this time I knew it was the Yosemite upgrade so spent several hours researching on the Internet to no avail.  Also it was the weekend so not able to ring when I would have telephoned epson who I know are very helpful.  I had already accepted some updates from Apple that day but later  saw yet another that was exactly what I needed - for epson running Yosemite.  I accepted it and within a few minutes the printer was  working perfectly.  But my first thought was could it be possible Apple has problems with epson only? - hardly likely.  Or does Apple know that I have an epson? - possibly but not likely to operate that way. So if you have an epson (or another name) you'd best check if there are updates waiting action and if not it could be on the way.  I tend towards impatience so wanted it fixed at once and would have contacted Apple but that's not as easy as one would think.
I hope the above is helpful but if you have more questions don't hesitate to put them to me.  I am far from expert and not had the Mac for long but do enjoy it and overcoming problems with the very helpful knowledgeable people of the community so much appreciated.
    Tony
