More than One Physical Standby Database

Hi All!
Is it possible to have more than one physical standby database? Does the procedure on how to create a single physical standby is the same as creating more than one? How about the configuration of the Primary database? Im planning this because I want the other physical standby to be used for read only access for our testing environment.
Please enlighten me.
Regards,
cmadiam

Think about it.
Q. What's the crux of Dataguard setup?
A. Redo transfer from primary to standby
Q.Which is the parameter you use to direct the redo transfer
A. LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n
Q. How many LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n parameters can be set?
A. 10; LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1 to LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_10
Of the 10 LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n, one of them should be LOCAL destination, which means you can have 9 other REMOTE destinations ~~ 9 standby database. Physical or logical or mix of both.
Cheers.
Note: Each of the 9 standby database can cascade redo transfer to 9 other cascaded standby databases. WOW! now you do the math.

    Hi Shyam,
I really dont understand what you have asked?
If your question is can we start more than one database at the same time then the answer to that is yes but provided to have enough resources on your server to support running of two or more different databases on the same machine.

  • How to implement more than one physical models from the same model

    Hello,
We have designed a relational model for our application and now, we would like to implement it for our 4 environments: Development, Test, User-Test and Real. Each one has the same logical schema but, different physical clauses (i.e.: in development environment we will not use partitioning clauses).
    Is this possible?
    Thank you,
    Bernat Fabregat

    Hello Bernat,
    yes it's possible:
    1) open your design and go to Tools>"RDBMS site administration"
    2) add your sites there (Current design) - Development, Test, User-Test and Real; press ok when finish
    3) go to "Physical models" node in browser and use "new" from pop-up menu - your sites will appear in list
    4) after you set physical objects in one model (need to save it as well)l, you can clone those objects in other models - you can clone from lower or the same database version
You can consider usage of "name substitution" functionality during DDL generation if objects should have different name (prefix) in different environment - in this there will be no need to change the name of objects in models.

    That the problem
I want to the data who are the java employee and which company belongs. And only display the java employees in all tab les
    Thank u

sounds like an incredibly bad design.
different tables for different companies? so every time you add a company you have to add a table?
i'd recommend a company table with a 1:m relationship with the employee table. it's normalization 101.

  • Can i create more than one instance for single database?

    HI
anybody can tell me how to create more than one instance for single database(without using RAC)?
    thanks
    Kalanidhi

    Anandji,
I sometimes think differently. I also think like what this person is asking..(although I have installed and administering 5 different RAC databases)
The main doubt of mine is that we create multiple instances accessing the same storage area.
Anyway the controlfiles of all instances will have the same information except the instance_names and instance id's.
Hence I always think , why can't it be possible to to create another instance in the same system and point it to a controlfile which is copied from the other instance.
Why can't the same files be shared between the two instances in a same system ?
I know I am thinking a little bit confusing...
Anyway I need to test that also...
    Mahesh.

  • Can I use more than one database connections in a jdeveloper project?

I use jdeveloper version 9.0.4.0 (build 1407),Can I use more than one database connections in one jdeveloper project?

9.0.4 is a fairly old version, so you may only find a few people who know how it worked.
Assuming you're using ADF BC, once known as BC4J, once know as JBO, in the project, and that the architecture hasn't changed much, then the answer is only 1 connection per project.
Programmatically you're free to use as many connections via JEE as you see fit, but ADF BC is limited to one connection.

  • Database with more than one instance

    hi,
suppose if one database have more than one instance,if i want to shutdown one instance how can i do it? is it possible to shutdown any one particular instance? if so how?
can any one tell me plz.........
    With Regards
    Boo

    Hi,
More than one instance mounted on the same database ...means it is RAC
On RAC, each instance will have a separate name.. check the individual init files.. you can find the instances names..
connect to the database using that particular sid and issue shutdown.

  • More than one Thread accessing the same records in the database

Hi, I have more than one thread accessing a synchronized method called getMinPrimaryKey() which gets the lowest of the primary key frm the table based on the a flag which is set to true. once it is retrieved the same method also sets the flag as false so it is not retrieved the second time. so next time a different thread calls this method it should retrieve the next available lowest primarmy key.
but even when i have the method as synchronized different threads keep returning the same primary key instead of getting the next sequence. can some one let me know where I might go wrong and what could be the solution. is it because when once i retrieve the record and set the flag as false, i also need to commit it?, which could be the reason the select query still picks up the same primary key. please help me out on this.
    thanks,
    Harish

Correction. If different threads always return the same key then your table isn't getting up dated. If different threads sometimes return the same key, then either the database is committing lazily, or else the threads are calling getMinPrimaryKey on different objects and so are not executing atomically with respect to each other.

  • More than one database driver has been used

Hi everyone, I just want to link 2 tables, one in Oracle and the second is in Access, is this possible? Please help, tahnks a lot.
    I got this message:
"More than one database driver has been used in this report. If you want to change the database drivers use Database/Set Location.
Please make sure that no SQL Expression is added and no server-side group-by is performed"
    This is the query generated:
    SELECT "A"."Field_in_A"
    FROM   "OracleDB"."A" "A"
    SELECT `B`.`Field_in_B`
    FROM   `AccessDB` `B`

The above suggestions are good. You might also consider using a link table from MS Access to have the linking done right inside MS Access.
If you can store your access mdb file on the server where your Oracle database resides this will greatly reduce your network traffic.  If the MS Access database must reside on a different machine it can still work but the gains won't be as great.  Still, this is an efficient way to do this if you can.
To create a link table in MS Access choose, New, then 'Link Table'. In the Link dialog that appears you can choose ODBC.  I recommend using the SQORA driver from Oracle that is installed with SQL Plus.
If you have to link in Crystal Reports instead you still can. However, all data from the Oracle table and Access table will be pulled to the client that hosts Crystal Reports and sorting will be done on the Crystal client.
You definitely have some good options though.
