Motion 3 Help !!

I need your help with an upgrade decision. I upgraded last fall and currently to Finalk Cut Studio Pro. I cannot find my discs(due to a very nosy kid of mine) or the installation icon in the applications folder for motion 3 . I am uncertain whether or not I have motion 3. I do have FC 5.14, DVD Studio Pro 4, Compressor 3, Sountrack Pro 2, which all came with the upgrade package. Based on that information:
1: would you say that Motion 3 came with that package or was it just Motion?
2: If not when was motion 3 released and with what FC Package?
3: Can I get FC upgrade from 5.14v to 6 via Apple update of do I need to spend $499.00?
Thanks in advance.

1. Motion 3 ships with Final Cut Studio 2.
2. You need to send the $499.00 to upgrade.

  • Tween and motion help!

    Hi,
    So my problem is this..
I really want to create an animation where writing just appears as it is being written/drawn and leads on to draw the sketch of someones face and carries on. (hope you understand that)
I know this must be done with tweens/motion but i cannot for the life of me figure out how!!!!.
If anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

player is a symbol that is classic tweened. It has to frames. The first is a still frame with a stop action. The second has been converted as a symbol to show the player move across the screen and back.   When the attack button is clicked the player moves across the screen and back but it keeps on looping. If I add a stop action to the last frame it will move and comeback and stop but it will not move anymore when the button is clicked again.

  • Detect motion- help

Hello , I have two photography and I want to detect moviment in the photos, how I have to make, compare pixel by pixel or what?
    Help me plis, and thanks

The easiest method would be to compute the number of pixels that are different in the two pictures, and then pick a threshold (if more than 10% of the image changes, determine there's motion present). That would be likely either be very senitive to noise, or it would miss subtle movements.
A slightly more robust method would be to threshold the image, and then diff the pixels. That would be less sensitive to noise, and would pickup on more subtle motions (you'd be able to set the threshold lower because you'd be more noise-resistent).
This question has nothing to do with JMF, so it's off-topic for discussion in this forum. I've posted the above information to get you started, but, you'll have to google for further help as this isn't the appropriate place to discuss this issue.

  • Cat's Tail Motion- HELP

Greetings. I am new to AF.  I need some help. I have a picture of a cat and two deer. I made a layer composition (one layer is the cat's tail) in Photoshop and saved it as a PSD file. Now I want to pull it into After Effects and put some motion in the cat's tail. I want to swing the cat's tail in either direction over a short time period.  The problem I am having is, which effect to use for the motion and how to put the anchor point on the cat's tail, then rotate. Can anyone talk me throught this?  At this point any help would really be appreciated Thank you Jeanne

Well, you could animate the rotation traditionally by setting the anchor point, and animating the z-rotation, but, if I were you, I'd absolutely use the Puppet Tool for this.

  • Button Motion Help plz

Guys. How do I add motion (or a video file of maybe 4 sec) to a button in a menu in Adobe Encore CS5? I know how to do it for the main menu but any way I can say add a few clips to multiple buttons so they would loop a 5 sec video clip instead of showing me a black scene or a photo of the scene?

  • New Effect Keyframe Motion Help

I've added a new effect and am just trying to move something across the screen like I would in FCP.
The object starts at one point, I have clicked the 1st keyframe of the New Effect track, move the timeline to the last keyframe of the New Effect Track, and then drag the object where I want it on the screen.
This kind of works but the object goes backwards, meaning it starts where I want it to end and ends where I want it to finish.
How can I just get an object to go where I drag it and then stay there?

You need to tell us more specific information
    What object are you using?
    Which effects are you using?
How many total keyframes do you have?
Start from the beginning of your timeline and then hit Shift-K...click on the Effects tab in the Inspector and tell us what it says under the Active Parameters.
Hit shift-K again and tell us what it says under the active Parameters.
Do this for each keyframe then we can more specifically help you.

  • Slow Motion Help

    Hello,
I am shooting HDV with Canon XH-A1 in 60i for slow mo shots. I bring it into JES de-interlacer to slow the footage down and now I want to convert it to 24p to bring it into a 24fps timeline in FCP. When I open the clip in Cinema Tools, it wont allow me to select conform. Anyone know why? Thanks.
    Joe

Cinema Tools won't conform footage that is in the GOP format...that includes HDV and XDCAM. You need to convert it to ProRes or some other I-Frame format.

  • Help with "greyed out" option for Publishing a group of Parameters in Motion 5!

How do you group published parameters in Motion 5, so that you don't have one giant list of published options for Final Cut Pro X?
My main goal is To publish a compound parameter (a parameter with nested subparameters)
Looking through Motion Help, it should be as easy as clicking the little disclosure triangle on the right of the inspector, but the word "Publish" is greyed out...

I know I've looked at rigging, but based off the Motion Help Online Manual, It should be as simple as clicking on the option for publish and have nested subparameters...
Rigging is excellent, but more steps would be needed to do the same thing i believe...

  • What does it take to learn Motion?

Hello everyone. I'm thinking about getting final cut pro, and motion comes along with the package. The thing is, I've never had a chance to use this program, and frankly I am not completely sure about what it does. So the question is, is it worth getting this software without even knowing what it does or how to use it.. and also how hard is it to learn?

well, it does have a "stage" and a "timeline", and you work with "keyframes". but the keyframes are not in the timeline
no, it's not really like flash. but if you taught flash yourself, you'll find it easy to start up with motion.
first you'll take presets and fiddle with those, check a bunch of tutorials, and slowly you'll master it.
that's what i'm doing right now
    learning the ropes.
motion is completely new to me, and having a project where i need stuff that's possible with motion helps me learn this program.
just "fiddling around" won't bring you as far as actually having something to do and finding a way to do it.

  • Kerning Caution! It can kill your Motion file.

Kern carefully. There is a bug that can render your motion file un-openable!
I will describe it in detail here to see if anyone else can reproduce it. I was able to reproduce it consistently, even with a new file.
I wanted to adjust the beginning of a text line to closely line up to another text member. There are many ways to do this. In this instance I chose to kern the space before the first character of the text line in order to shift the entire line.
Don't do this! It will kill your motion file.
When I tried to render a movie  (Share/Export Movie...) after making this adjustment, here is the error message.
I saved the file, hoping that restarting Motion would fix the problem. But the project file will not open.
Luckily I had a backup of the file. I did a bit of trouble shooting after this and found that this type of kerning would consistently kill the project file. This is a very nasty bug. There may be more like this so proceed with caution when kerning.

Hope you have reported this to Apple Tracy via the Motion Help menu to http://www.apple.com/feedback/motion.html
I will stay away from kerning for now, thanks for the heads up!

  • Motion path red line missing?

    Hey.
I've been using Motion 1.0.1 for about a year now and everything has been going great. Today I had my first problem. When I opened up motion and added the motion path behavior to one of my objects, the red line did not appear. I have played around with all sorts of view setting, window options, and looked though "Motion Help" as well. Nothing I have seen has worked. I just can't figure out how to get the red line to appear again so that I can edit it and continue with my project.
    Thanks for any help!
    -----prismi

Ok. I've managed to be able to find the red line. It only appears if these conditions are fulfilled:
    1) I have done command slash to show the overlays
    2) When I control-click on the object to which I am adding the motion path I select "transform"
    3) My pointer tool must be the topmost transform/select tool (shift s)
With all these the red line appears, but I can not edit it in any way. If I change any setting the line disappears.

  • Motion, iMac 24" with 1Gb ram: is it enought?

    Ciao to all
I'm evaluating MOTION 2.1.2 as tool to produce small video (45 sec).
I bought, last week, a new iMac 24" with the standard components ( 1Gb ram etc etc...) and a friend gave me the possibility to try his Motion.
I found few problems working with the normal tools I need ( Motion 2.1.2, Photoshop 8.0.1, Fission and Safari opened at the same time)
I found a strange situation; sometimes the machine seems to be freezed; the processor is working at 5-15% ( so, nothing) BUT application are VERY low to react.
I discovered a problem of RAM; I mean, seems that 1 GB is NOT enought for my situation.
SO I tried to close as many app as possible but I detected that Motion seems to be VERY hungry of ram.
The availability of FREE ram (with only Motion and safari open) decrease, close to zero, the inactive ram is more then 1/2 ram installed (520 Mb)....
Can anyone expert of Motion help me a bit?
I have to decide if buy the app or not so I would like to to the right thing....
Regards and have great time for this Christmas.
    Ciao
    rob

    Hi Roberto
Motion Graphics in general are memory hungry and for them to 'look nice' in development phase they need to be rendered (RAM preview). Now you can have this preview as FULL quality or half or quarter. If you use any of the latter two your preview will render faster, but not with best quality. This is good for checking timing and how things in general look like.
Recommendation: Always close not needed applications, reduce your preview quality to 50% or less (don't worry, in the final export, Motion exports in full quality) and it should be faster. More RAM is a good idea bu will cost you money, check first those two options. Cheers.

  • Help! Can't export DV matte footage without an unwanted background!

I have dv matte blast and it is pulling great keys, but I can't export as a .mov file without getting the background color that I set in properties. I can't find a transparent setting for the background in motion. I have also tried the roundtrip method and I am still getting background when I export to motion and retuen to FCP 5 and render keyed footage. I have FCP 5 crossgrade studio.
Anyone know a work around? Should I export as another file. I looked in all the threads and motion help manual and have come up empty.
    Thanks in advance.

unless you're using the animation codec with + colors selected, you're not exporting transparency.
rather than exporting a quicktime movie, you can place your motion project directly in the fcp timeline.

  • How to use NI motion library to interact with the hardware in C#?

i want to interact with a motor connected to my system using ni motion board and ni motion library. Can anyone suggest how to configure velocity and acceleration settings so that the motor can be rotated ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ritesh

    Ritesh,
you should start by configuring and testing the motion control setup in MAX. In C# you can use the NI-Motion C API. Please refer to the documentation (NI-Motion C Reference help) and the shipping examples (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-Motion\Documentation\Examples\NI-Motion Help\C).
    Kind regards,

  • Is there a C version that does what the MAX 1-D Interactive does?

Is there a C version that does what the MAX 1-D Interactive does?  Or a solution to the problem below.
I got the MAX 1-D Interactive to work with my stepper motor.  The hardware setup is at the bottom.
I am trying to write a C program in Visual Studio 2010 to control a stepper motor. I found an example program called 1D Straight Line Move.c in
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-Motion\Documentation\Examples\NI-Motion Help\C
I copied the example file and the needed .h, .c and .lib files into a Visual Studio project.  I changed the velocity, acceleration, and deceleration to match the values in the MAX 1-D Interactive.  The solution builds, but when I run it I get the following error message
Run-Time Check Failure #0 - The value of ESP was not properly saved across a function call.  This is usually a result of calling a function declared with one calling convention with a function pointer declared with a different calling convention.
    Setup:
I am running the latest NI Motion Software.

UMI-7774 connected to P70360 Stepper Driver using control cable
    P70360 Stepper Driver connected to NEMA 23 (T21NRLC) using Orange (A-), Black (A), Yellow (B-), Red (B)
NEMA 23 is powered by 120V AC power supply
P70360 Stepper Driver is set using DIP Switches (I tried to use the P7000 software tool that came with it, but it never found the driver):

    1D Straight Line Move.c ‏5 KB

No I am not using Visual C++ MFC.  I am using an empty C++ project in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. Although I eventually want to create a .exe file from this project so I'll have change project type.
The motor runs using MAX to control it.
It did run using the 1D Straight Line Move.c project, but it gave me the below errors.  That night I unplugged it because the stepper motor gets hot.  The next day MAX still moves the motor but the 1D Straight Line Move.c project doesn’t and I still get the errors below.
I am getting two errors:  (I was getting the same errors yesterday)
Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'errorCode' was corrupted.
Run-Time Check Failure #0 - The value of ESP was not properly saved across a function call. This is usually a result of calling a function declared with one calling convention with a function pointer declared with a different calling convention.
I think the errors come from using the functions in flexmotn.h.  The functions look like they are being used correctly, but I can't find where they are defined.  They are probably defined in FlexMS32.lib.
I attached the files I am using.
I haven’t tried any of the other examples.  1D Straight Line Move.c looks like the simplest and closest to what I want to do.

  • Plugin Effects not showing up in FCPX

    Hi,
I recently bought a new computer.  I installed FCPX and copied my plugin effects to the movie folder (motion templates, etc.) the same way I had them working in my old computer, but the effects are not showing up in FCPX when I launch the Application.  I read somewhere that it might be a permission issue so I ran disk utility but it didn't make a difference.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Marc

I know this is an old thread but I had the same issue. Found this on Apple's Motion help document. This was very helpful:
.moef is the Final Cut Effect template extension.
.motn is the Final Cut Generator template extension.
.moti is the Final Cut Title template extension.
.motr is the Final Cut Transition template extension.
Just be sure your templates are in the right folder. I had downloaded a template that I thought was a title but ended in .motn, which meant it was supposed to be in the /Movies/Motion Templates/Generators/ folder. Good luck!
