If the 2 computers have the correct cable connections, try the Target Disk Mode. Then copy them over or use an external drive to transfer them.

• HT4796 How to solve my situation of having several Mac users created for me as I used Migration Assistant multiple times to move files from my PC

I recently tried to migrate data from my old and perpetually unstable PC to my new iMac through the Set up Assistant. However, half way through the 6 hour process, my PC crashed (the exact reason why I finally bought a Mac!) and the connection was lost. I continued with the Mac set up and then tried again later to migrate the files with Migration Assistant. Since I was nervous that my PC would crash again, I decided to do the data transfer in multiple migrations (ie. first I did photos and then after seeing that that was done successfully I did music and so on). Unexpected to me, even though all of the 4 migrations were successful I now have 4 additional users (in addition to the one I set up durnig the initial process) because each migration created a new user. Each user has little bits of my data.
What is the easiest way to merge these users or at least the data that resides in each one? I really only want one user. thank you.

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. Had you followed the Setup Assistant's on-screen prompts when you initially turned on your new system you would be running just fine by now. My guess is you haven't been exposed to Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips.
Migration Assistant (MA) and Setup Assistant (SA) are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA creates a new user account which can be confusing to some users. If you successfuly migrated then log out of your existing using account and you should see the new user account. Log into that account then you should see the migrated data. If you do then use Pondini's Transferring files from one User Account to another.
However if you have totally made of mess out of things then I'd start over, this time using the Setup Assistant Tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.

• Migration Assistant - Failing to Transfer some Files?

I just used Migration Assistant when setting up my new MacBook Pro to pull over the contents of my old (early 2008) MacBook Pro. The Software ran without a glitch and the new machine is functioning normally.
However, when I look in "About This Mac - More Info - Storage", the aggregate memory used by files on the hard drive of my new machine for categories such as "Audio" and "Photos" differs from that on my old machine (about 10-20% less than the space used for these on the old machine). I didn't see any settings to select only a partial transfer, so the process should have pulled over everything, and now I'm worried there may be important files stranded on the old machine. Finding these amongst my library of music and photos could be very time consuming.
Does this mean not everything transferred, or could there be another explanation? I do recall that in iPhoto and Lightroom on the old machine there were placeholders for images that it said were no longer on the computer. Perhaps this is related and these "ghosts" explain the difference in what was pulled over?
Thanks for any advice.
Garrett

If you are migrating to a larger internal HD, then, percentage wise, these files would be taking up less space on your machine. Where are you getting these percentages from?
Finder Menu > Apple Logo About this Mac > More Info > Storage
#only shows disk usage in GB, not as % figures.
"The Software ran without a glitch and the new machine is functioning normally."
I suspect nothing is wrong and all your data was transferred.

• Migration Assistant does not see Home Directories from AD Users

We use AD as authentication domain but home directories are stored local at the client computer. Hence they are backed up via Time Machine. AD Users can use Time Machine like any local user. But now one machine crashed and we wanted to restore the full computer via Migration Assistent. Unfortunally AD Users home directories are not restored to the computer although the home directories are on the backup set. Is there a way to restore the whole Computer from the Backup Set inclusive all Users directories (including these from the AD Users, which had been stored locally)?

So, finally after fourten hours of unattended "migration," I let it continue overnight and in the morning found that the time remaining had not moved a minute. I canceled MA and found that not one iota of data had transferred.
As far as I'm concerned, Migration Assistant ranks lower on the Apple success list than Open Doc, Newton, Pink and Taligent.
Now I have to manually install software I want to use on the MBA, apply licenses, and all the other stuff I would expect from Windows.
NOT happy.

• How do I transfer raw files from iPad to my Mac Pro?

I transfer RAW and JPEG files from my camera to iPhoto on the iPad using

• Can't transfer photo files from old iBook to Mac Pro

When I travel, I upload my photos using a card reader onto my iBook (1.2Hz, 762 RAM). At home, when I try to transfer them to my Mac Pro Quad (2.66Hz, 3Gb RAM) the transfer always starts OK (a number of files transfer) but then stalls out on a particular file. If I go back to my iBook and remove the "stalled" file, then try the transfer, it starts OK and then stalls on a new file, further "down the list".
So I basically can't transfer the files. Curiously, I have tried transfering the files from my iBook to a CF card and the same thing happens, so it seems the issue is with the iBook. Why would it be an issue only in one direction, ie, no problem uploading the files onto the iBook from my CF card reader? Could this be a memory issue? Any thoughts or suggestions?? Thanks.

I suspect a bad HD in your iBook. Pretty much anything that involved stalling and HDs means that.

• Mavericks Migration assistant does not see time machine backup of older Lion Mac

Used to have a Macbook Pro. It was stolen (circa July 2014). Luckily I had up to date Time Machine Backups. The Macbook Pro was completely up to date running the latest OSX Lion (circa July 2014) when stolen.
Bought a new Macbook Air just now (Mar 2015).
Plugged in the old Mac's Time Machine Backup Disk, Migration Assistant doesn't see the old Mac's Backups.
So I setup the new Macbook Air without restoring.
Plugged in old backup drive, am able to navigate to old Mac's Time Machine Backups.
Tried running Migration Assistant many time , but still it does not see the the old Mac's Time Machine Backups. (although they continue to show in the drive if I navigate to it)
Pls help so I can migrate the old Mac to the new Mac!!!!

Thanks Turbostar.
Well, I think there should be solution to use TIME CAPSULE restore as it should I mean I bought Time Capsule because it is easy to use and I really do not want to solve any issues or make any workarounds.
I think APPLE should resolve this ASAP. Meantime maybe anybody knows any trick about this issue?

• Migration did not transfer app files

I used Migration to transfer my 10.6.8 apps, files ect to a new iMac with Mavericks.
I must say that the Migration system leaves much to be desired. I have a app (probably more than one) where the shell was transferred but not the files that it contained. The app maker says to go into the app and extract the files . How do I do that?
Dave Hill

I suspect they apps might not run under Mavericks.
While your computer might meet the requirements, also check your applications for Mavericks compatibility here: http://roaringapps.com/
Lion and later do not support PowerPC software. They must be Intel native.

• HT4792 How to transfer video files from my ipad to mac?

I recorded a video of my daughters ballet recital on my company's ipad. I would like to transfer it to my mac or pc and delete it from ipad? Can I do this?

Connect your iPad to your Mac, then turn the iPad on. If the iPad is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select iPad in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.
Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the iPad after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your iPad, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
You can also transfer videos from iPhone to Mac with the above way.

• HT204350 Migration Assistant is NOT working

Migration Assistant is NOT working - Have tried from from a hard disk and using the Thunderbolt cable. Keeps Looking for Source.
Any ideas? I really want to more on to my new Mac.

That the Migration Assistant doesn't work is a KNOWN ISSUE. Last week I got a new iMac and the old and new couldn't find one another. I called tech support 3 times and spent I don't know how long on the phone. They finally suggested I take them both to an Apple store, which I did today. The Genius knew all about it - said it's a known issue. To "resolve" it he started the old iMac in "disk mode" and then the new one could see it, but that wasn't an adequate fix: After spending over an hour moving the files, they wouldn't have been in their proper folders. I would have had to manually file 6 years worth of pics and files! NFW - I returned the new computer and will make do with my old one until Apple gets this right.

• BizTalk Server 2013 SFTP Adapter with private key - Did not poll any files

Hello,
We have a requirement to connect SFTP secure site with the private key and polling files. Initially I have
tested BizTalk Server 2013 SFTP Adapter receiver Port using Bitvise SSH SFTP Server tool and it was working perfectly in our local network environment( with public private key authentication).
However when we connected to Client SFTP server with private key authentication, It successfully connected to SFTP Server but
did not poll any files from SFTP Site. I added only one file to SFTP Server ( 145 kb file) for testing purpose.
However BizTalk Server 2013 SFTP Send Adapter is working well with the same configuration.
I could not find any errors in Event viewer also. I can download\upload file using WinSCP tool .
So I downloaded nSoftware SFTP Adapter trial version and deployed on server. nSoftware SFTP adapter is also working find
without any issues for Client SFTP Site.
This is the configuration on SFTP Receive Adapter
This is how SFTP Server download folder permission configured. I have got this details using WinSCP tool.

Appreciate your help on this.
Thanks
PrabathD

BizTalk Adapter for SFTP is where the polling logic is implemented. It is not part of the SFTP Client logic. any SFTP Client is for User Interaction and you do what you want/when you want.
The BizTalk Receive however is for purposes of automation and the adapter polls the receive location using the credentials every polling interval to check for the files matching the filter. When it find a file, it will read and publish to message box or
submit to pipeline for processing. Your setting the polling interval to 0 (ZERO) might actually be disabling the polling.
Set your poll interval to a non-zero value and check the behavior.
Regards.

• How do I transfer files from my old Power Mac Mini to my new one?

Oops...thought I had to write the question in the above spot.
Question: How do I transfer my files from my old Power Mac Mini to my new Intel based Mac Mini? From what I read, I needed a 40/80 cable, which I bought. However, I only have one monitor.
(I tried to copy files onto a blank dvd, but it wouldn't format and kept spitting the disk out) (?)

Anna,

Jolly makes a good point about screen sharing.
I prefer the firewire approach just because I have had more problems with ethernet connections than with firewire connections. Both options work, firewire has just been easier for me when the operating system on the machines are different. Read the options and post back if you would like additional coaching.
