Motion Blur for lower layers

Hello!
Could you help me?
I've checked all motion blur indicators. My layers of rope are on the top of composition.
But rotating rope doesn't blur lower layers. (Pointed by red arrows on screenshot)
I'm waiting for your help.
Thank you.

Two .ai file are at the top of composition. But they are not blur lower layers
Thank you!

  • Motion blur is messing up my composition

    Hey all,
I'm working on a project which involves 3d space (using camera tracker). Everything is going fine until I needed to turn on motion blur for a layer. When i switched it on for the composition, things start to get weird. If you play the video, the null objects visibly "rotate" instantly, move from spot to spot randomly, and it's obvious that something is not right. When i turn off the motion blur, the object right themselves.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I think i can work through it by creating a new composition then dropping the existing into that and turning on motion blur there, but i would rather be able to work with it in the same comp.
I'm working with 1920x1080p footage 30 fps in CS5.5 on a macbook pro 2.52ghz intel core 2 duo. If you need any other info just let me know.
    Thanks
    Dan

OK, here's my best guess. When you turn on motion blur time samples differently. The keyframes that are causing the problems are at a z rotation for the camera of 179º. This made me think you were experiencing a gimbal lock with your camera moves. When the camera gimbal locks the camera orientation flips. It has nothing to do with motion blur being enabled on the layers.
I seldom apply tracking data directly to a camera for this reason. I almost always apply the tracking data to a null then parent the camera to the null. This will prevent gimbal lock problems with the camera.
There is a solution that may work for you. Open up the composition settings, the Advanced tab and change the Shutter phase to 0º. This should prevent the gimbal lock that you're getting. I wouldn't call this a bug, but a better workflow would have prevented the problem in the first place.

  • Standard motion blur on 3d camera uses premature frame samples

Hi there everyone, I was wondering if anyone has ever noticed the following issue:
I have created a couple of 3D layers in AE "space", having a camera zip panning and tilting from one to the other. We're talking like 15 frames rotation moves, so worth a little blurring. Now AE creates a very nice motion blur on those zippy camera moves, be it that half of the sixteen samples needed to calculate the motion blur are taken from the frames yet to come (?????) So, especially in a 'banking' kind of rotation, causing an over time calculated spin blur, the blur itself pops in even before the camera has moved (it's like five frames 'ahead').
Does anyone of you have a similar experience? Is there a workaround without having to create every blur manually?
Oh, by the way, CC Force Time blur crashes on this because it does not like certain effects I used, like Text Anarchy and a couple of standard AE effects (??)
Please help me out on this one. It's easy to recreate this issue: create a new comp, throw in a camera and a video layer and have this video layer rotating round its Z-axis once in a five frames duration, in linear interpolation. Now switch on motion blur for this layer and the timeline. You will notice the blur appears before the video layer has started rotating and when the rotation has stopped, the motion blur is long gone. Appreciate any help, thx.

Hi Mylenium and thanks for taking the time. I appreciate it a lot, certainly when a known AE guru like you picks up a question like this one.
Unfortunately, though I have tried every offset in steps of 90 degrees up to 720, but the problems persists. Maybe a bigger offset helps? Or a negative one (if possible, haven't tried yet...)
I don't think this would be of any importance, but the layers I use are mainly AE generated text layers.... but now that I think of it, the entire camera move was imported from Cinema 4D, so every timeline frame is a lineair camera keyframe as well... 546 frames, and thus 546 keyframes for the poor 3D cam... could that be messing up the motion blur calculation.....?
I guess I will try that right after dinner. Thanks again so far, I feel honoured.

  • AE CS5.5: Motion Blur creates random twirl effects on text layer

    Hello @ all!
    I'm facing the following problem:
I imported a scene rendererd out of Cinema 4D which contains few Null-objects. The Nulls are supposed to be placeholders and they have 3D-Data. They are animated.
When i link my textlayers to the nulls and switch on motion blur, the text layers seem to be affected by a random affect. They twirl all around the scene.
I played around with the shutter angle, but i can only avoid this unwanted effect, when i set it to zero.
Does this have to do with a problem according to the interpretation of the coordinates exported out of cinema 4D?
How could i solve this problem?
    Any help is appreciated....
    Best,
    Paul

Sounds like a problem in the export where angles flip over when gretar than 180 degrees, a.k.a. gimbal lock. Depending on what features you used in C4D this could be perfectly normal, but it could also be a bug in the AEC export. Impossible to tell without seeing the scene, but e.g. using the Align to Spline tag does this consistently if the spline makes turns exceeding those angular limits. Just a normal limitation in that case... So more or less your issue is in C4D, not AE and you need to fix it there.

  • CS3 Motion Blur not working?

I have a comp that has just a text layer. I've enabled 3D switch for the layer. I added a wiggle expression to its position. I then enabled the motion blur switch. When previewing and/or rendering, I don't see any motion blur at all. I really don't want to use CC Force Motion Blur because it takes too long to render. Does anyone know the reason for this or what it might be? Is there a setting somewhere that I might have disabled so I don't see motion blur?

    See
"Use motion blur" for a description of all of the UI items that affect motion blur.

  • After Effects CC: Motion Blur, 3D Layers and Opacity

    Hi All,
I've had this problem for a while now (it happened in CS6 as well).
I'm animating vector layers from Illustrator (continuously rasterize on).  When I apply a camera, 3D Layer and Motion Blur I have a consistent glitch (or maybe not a glitch but conflicting variables).
If I simply animate one layer from 100% opacity to 0%, and another from 0% to 100% from keyframe : 01 to : 02 (switch off, not fade) the top layer lingers with transparency for an extra frame - it doesn't switch off cleanly.
This creates frustrating issues which I have worked around once I go into Avid, but I'd greatly appreciate some advice on how to avoid the issue altogether.  It's particularly frustrating if I am trying to do a smooth camera move and I have have a lingering frame.
    Thanks.

  • Activating 3d for a layer effects motion blur strangely

    Hello all
I have a comp in which a jpg logo moves quickly across frame into position, I have motion blur enabled for the composition and the layer and it works fine. I would now like to do more work on the composition that involves camera moves so I have enabled 3d for the layer containing the logo and my motion blur, well, doesn't dissapear exactly but neither does it stay.
I have a couple of images here to explain better...
    http://www.tinycards.co.uk/aftereffects
sorry if this is a stupid mistake!
    many thanks

ok half fixed it myself, I discovered the "samples per frame" setting in advanced composition settings
if I set this at 35-40 I get a nice smooth blur.
I have a smaller problem now however ,the 3d version is brighter than the 2d version, I assume this is because of the composite mode it uses to merge the 40 or so frames to make the blur. Is there any way of controlling this accurately?
Also does anyone know why motion blur sample rate is automatic in 2d and not 3d?

  • Synchronizing motion for two layers

Ok. I'm more than a little frustrated trying to get this to work. Any help would be most appreciated.
I've got two clips. One is a still image serving as my background. the other is an illustration of a man standing stationary in the foreground. The layer of the man is on top of the background layer.
My problem occurs when I zoom in on the standing man. It is extremely difficult to get the scale and key frames for both layers to sync up. That is it is proving difficult to make both the man and background appear to be inhabiting the same "space" rather than independent layers.
Is there a way to lock the two layers together so that changes made to the motion tabs in the scale and center of one layer are the same for both? I'm sure there is but just can't seen to figure it out on my own.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hi -
On the bottom left corner of the timeline, press Toggle Clip Keyframes or type Option-T.
This will display the keyframes for a clip on the timeline. The blue line is the motion keyframes, the green is any keyframes you have applied to filters.
With those keyframes now displaying on the timeline, the Playhead will snap to them if you have snapping turned on (type "n") and it should make it easy for you to place you keyframes to match keyframes you have placed on other clips.

  • What's the correct workflow for high FPS footage motion blur?

    Situation is the following:
I have a few 600fps recordings I want to put together with heavy editing.
Things I want to do (not in order):
Change the velocity heavily up and down, from 300% to 10% and back withing seconds.
Basic VFX, heightmap, masking, light flashes and so on.
3D tracking and effects, particles and text in 3D space
    Color Correction
    Good motion blur
    Overlays
Now, my question is at which point I apply the motion blur. I'd like to start in Sony Vegas for the velocity and then move to After Effects.
But Sony Vegas is capable to export at max 120fps. Will the motion blur result be worse/different with minro FPS footage?
In Sony Vegas for example, the resample feature is pretty useless/bad unless you go over 120fps.
But obviously I can't start by importing my footage into AE and firstly add motion blur. By my understanding I have to do all FX and color correction before adding motion blur, and until then the footage has to stay 600fps. Is this correct?
    Thanks in advance.

and until then the footage has to stay 600fps. Is this correct?
No. Motion blur is calculated from frame to frame at the actual playback speed. Anything else would look fake, anyway, though of course you may already ned to/ want to add some motion blur to some elements halfway through just to from the precision of higher framerates. Smoother curves and all that. So ultimately in which order you do it is till a matter of what gives you the best result, not so much a fixed "correct" order.

  • Solution for Low-Cost Single-Axis Motion Control?

    Hello,
I am currently researching the options that NI has available for low-cost linear actuators.  I am looking to replace the functionality of a pneumatic solenoid with a linear actuator.  I would like to create a system that uses strictly NI hardware and software.  The system should be capable of the following:
Push an object with a maximum force of 500LB
    Max stroke of 1 foot
Ability to monitor and control the position of cylinder (how far to extend preset)
Ability to stop/reverse the travel at any point along the stroke
Ability to control the velocity of the cylinder (preset)
The parameters for velocity and stroke length (0-12") would be set before the actuator begins to move, hopefully from a LabVIEW operator interface.  These would not be changed on the fly.  Any reccomendations would be welcome!
    Thanks

I suggest first deciding what motor you want to use.  After you choose a motor, you can choose a drive.
NI offers two drives - the MID-765x for servo motors and MID-760x for stepper. motors.  You can then connect the drive to an NI motion controller via a cable.  If the specifications of these NI drives (see manuals) are not compatible with your motor, you can use a 3rd party drive instead.  If you use a 3rd party drive, you will need to purchase a breakout box to connect an NI motion controller's signals to the 3rd party drive.  NI offers two breakout interfaces - the UMI-7764 for a screw terminal interface and the UMI-7774 for a D-sub interface.
The NI motion controllers that I would recommend are the 7330 (for stepper only), 7340 (stepper/servo), and the 7350 (stepper/servo).  The NI-Motion driver will allow you to command the motor to move to specified positions dynamically and monitor the current position.  You can also set velocity constraints or set the velocity directly.
You can find more information on all the NI hardware that I have mentioned on the NI Motion Hardware page.  This page lists features for the hardware and provides links to product pages (which contain links to the product manuals).

  • Global Switches for Frame Blend and Motion Blur aren't working with the newest version of After Effects 2014.1.1

I have been using After Effects regularly since 1995. So this isn't an operator error.
I am on a new Mac Pro six core with OSX 10.9.5 and 32 gigs of RAM.
Is anyone else having trouble with activating frame blend and motion blur?
Occasionally I am able to get the global switch to appear to be on. It still won't activate motion blur or frame blend.

I'll answer my own issue. The global switches actually work. The distinct dark boxes that indicate when the global switches are enabled have been removed and replaced by a light blue outline of the switch icon.

  • Mirror, Cast Shadow,(Motion) Blur, Extrude Layer Styles

Layer styles are useful because of their parametric and their non-destructive natures.
I'd like to suggest new layer styles, of commonly used effects, that would help to automate lenghty tasks.
Mirror would create a reflection of the layer that fades with distance, it is commonly used in the products pictures of a famous computer /music player/phone manufacturer, and is even available as a word art in Powerpoint! Another common name for that effect is "wet floor".
Proposed settings would be to be able to select the direction (bottom by default), the angle of the reflection, the starting point of the reflection (so that the object/layer can appear to be floating in the air above the reflecting surface), the distance/curve of the fade, maybe an option to desaturate, lighten/darken, and/or blur with distance) There could also be an option to increase/decrease the width of the reflection. An additional eye candy would be to be able to distort the shadow with a map, for effects like waves, but we are way over in the cliché mode...
Cast Shadow would be very similar to the mirror effect, and would simulate the shadow casted by a light placed behind the object/layer. It would use most of the controls found on the Mirror layer style, or it would be available when one desaturates the mirror effect.
Motion Blur would create the effect of a displacement of the layer. It should be able to create the lenght of the blur, a start fade (so that the whole object/layer is not blurred, but only part of it). The fade could have two settings: flat or parametric. Flat would blur based on a gradient, while parametric would fade the blur according to a fixed distance to the edges of the layer. It would be very useful to be able to create a path that the blur would follow, but I'm not sure about the best interface: on image, or in a dedicated widget.
Blur would be a simple blurring routine, that would alleviate the need to create smart objects, and use smart filters.
Extrude could be the equivalent of creating step and repeat copies of a layer/object. It would create nudged copies of the layer simulating a third axis.
Controls would be: angle, distance, fade, where the copies become desaturated, blurred, and/or would have lower opacities.
I hope that other users will chime in with proposed refinements, or additional (useful and feasible) layer styles they'd like to see.

    I like these Pierre.
    Also
Noise - at the moment its possible to use Pattern Overlay and generate patterns to put grain texture and noise into layers. But a layer style with the correct parameters, grain size, blur, intensity, saturation (Saturation applies to the saturation of the noise not the image), would be useful.
This brings me back to  feature request made about a year or so ago, that it woud be possible to sample overall image 'noise'or 'grain' and to apply this to areas. It would use image analysis tecniques, although Im not sure yet what these would be -   to create an 'average' grain structure for the existing image (probably the base layer but this could be redefined). This would mean that any bad retouching (blurring or image softening) could be more easily salvaged, and would also mean that its easy to do much more destructive editing, more freely on an image than before, without the worry of banding on output.
If I think of any others I'll post them

  • CS4 Motion Blur---Something is wrong

I tried to rerender a CS3 project today in CS4 and found that the sequence (mostly moving type) no longer rendered correctly---some of the type was strangely shaky and too blurry (even while not moving) and other layers had no blur.
Opened the same project in CS3 and rendered the SAME sequence without these issues.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lance Moody

    Hi again and thanks,
The comp here does not contain nested comps--just text layers (which are what you see in the example). When you mention the resolution drop down, are you referring to the preview window resolution? This shouldn't affect renders.
    Some are 3D.
Also I am using best settings for render.
To be clear there are two problems I see after render:
    1. The weird blurry low-rez text on some layers.
    2. The loss of motion blur on others (even though MB is checked on for layer and comp).
Additionally after opening other comps, I notice that certain layers are no longer positioned correctly in 3D space.
This is distressing because sure as hell in a year or two someone will want to revise these spots and there are so many things wrong with them that this would not be trivial. I suppose I can keep CS3 on my machine--god knows unpaid updates for CS products are hard to come by. This is FOR SURE a bug.

  • Motion Blur help.

Alrighty, I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended, and I'm having troubles with motion blur.
When I set the angle to anything above 60 really and distance to about 300 it crashes saying Adobe Photoshop CS4 has encountered a problem and needs to close.
This happens every time. So I tried restarting Photoshop, then restarting my computer, then I uninstalled and reinstalled fresh and it still crashes when I begin to use motion blur, infact I believe it even crashed just by opening the motion blur window for over 40 seconds.
    Any help or ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks a lot Mylenium! I'll do that in a few minutes, by the way heres an update with some more information.
Photoshop crashes when I change the angle to 49 or higher, anything lower is fine.
I went to my event viewer and I found this:
Faulting application photoshop.exe, version 11.0.0.0, faulting module mmxcore.8bx, version 11.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000d62a.

  • Motion Blur caused by Shutter Speed 50?!

    Hi All,
I'm a GH2 user. Shoot in 50i-50ss-5.6f. I realized that is an effect such like "Motion Blur" which caused by the low shutter speed as I mentioned (50ss). Search around some forum, it is quite common. In fact, it looks not really comfortable to me! How do you solve this issue or perhaps reducing/smoothen the motion blur issue?
Picture like focus clear & sharp while talent do not move to left or right. Once his/her head move to left or right, there is motion blur after it. In fact, facused while talent did not move his/her head then.
    Thanks!

    David,
Thanks for the prompt reply and confirmation.
Perhaps, 1/50 producing slow shutter speed result--motion blur? It just like a man walk from left to right in front of my cam, and the man will be blur in motion during the recording. It'll only stay focused while the man stop and stand still. Double up the shutter speed will helps this? like 1/100? Might need your opinion.
Some friends ask me "are you shooting a speedy subject?". Not really that speed or fast. Just like what i've mention above, perhaps just walking...turn around...hand up...those might blur in 1/50 shutter speed with fully Continuos Focus Function.
I'm just curious, how could those GH2 friends shooting a Dance Genre Music of MV? They are dancing, moving fast enough...but, surprise, MV is just sharp and stay focused on every person! What do you say?
Is those below's MV consider pretty smooth? Can you tell what's the shutter speed on those? Continuos Focus + Manual Focus in use?
Thanks for now and hear from you soon! Apprciate to your precious time to answer
