Motion Generator seems to be crashing FCPX
I am having problems when I load a Motion generator into my FCPX project. It seems to be crashing the FCPX. It seems to stay open fine until i select the motion generator in my timeline then it just closes and brings up a crash report.
The only thing I can say is that when previewing the generator to drop it into FCPX it is showing a blue screen and not the animation and then when its dropped in the same thing happens if i scroll through the timeline. Then as I saidd, when I click on the generator it crashes FCPX completely.
I have to admit I dont know much about these crash reports and determining where its gone wrong but I wondered if anyone could advise?

What's the Motion generator? Which one? Sounds like it's broken. What are the specs of your system?

Exported Motion Generator not rendering correctly in FCPX 10.0.1

I have a problem with exporting a generator from Motion 5 to FCPX 10.0.1.
1) I created a sequence of a page of a book opening then closing. I created this in Motion 5, and exported it as a Generator to its own category and folder
2) I have found that in this folder a movie of the sequence is created. This movie plays correctly. The movie is located at this path:
HD/ Users/ Name/ Movies/ Motion Templates/ Generators/ Generator Title/ Individual Generator/ Gen Movie.mov HD/ Users/ Name/ Movies/ Motion Templates/ Generators/ Generator Title/ Individual Generator/ Gen Movie.mov
NOTE: I also tried exporting the movie, from motion as a stand alone movie. This and the original motion file play the same and are correct
3) Once in FCPX. I can either skim over the generator or place in the time line and let it render
4) The results are the same, the front cover does not turn correctly. As it closes it gets half way, and then the page disappears. A few frames later it flies in from the left side of the screen
5) This did not happen in the original version of FCPX (10.0), but even though I have an original copy on another machine, I cannot import this whole project, as the files are now too new.
Can anyone help with sorting this out. I was going to upload a couple of small videos to show this, but the video upload button is greyed out.

Motion Generator appears fine in timeline/canvas, corrupted on export (missing layers)?
I have a custom Motion Generator with a lot of layers & editable text fields that acts as an overlay to my video, so it runs through the whole project, broken up into clips whenever the text needs to change.
I recently finished my editing, scanned through the project in Final Cut (seeing no errors), and exported it. But when I look at the exported .mov, one of the generator clips didn't render properly. The text is there, but the background images aren't. This isn't even something I can toggle in my Generator, it just like... half-rendered.
The clips on either side were fine, and again, this only appears in the exported .mov. Within Final Cut Pro X, there is no way to tell something is wrong.
So I opened the project back up, found the generator clip in question, and tried disabling/reenabling it, then exporting just a tiny section to see if that fixed it. The test was rendered properly, so I went back and exported the entire project again.
This time, the original error was fixed, but in another section of the project (minutes earlier, in a different compound clip), the generator failed to render properly. This time, only half of the images loaded (rather than none), and a piece of text was rendered twice (once properly, once smaller in the middle of the screen, over someone's face).
And again... it still looks fine within FCPX itself.
Has anyone else experienced missing layers on a custom Motion Generator on export only?Elated - I have found the problem and, more importantly, a solution.
While converting the original footage to ProRes, Compressor complained about one of the segments (the JVC camera records in around 18 minute chunks) I was trying to import. Sure enough there were some visual glitches on playback but FCP never seemed to care, but Compressor refused to convert it to ProRes.
Which got me thinking.... back to the timeline I went. Knowing which segment had caused Compressor problems, I isolated it, and cut out all footage with distortion on it. I had used b-roll footage to cover the glitches anyway, but this time I used the blade tool to remove the offending video on V1 even though it was being obscured by V2.
As if by magic, and to my great relief, the footage rendered and as we speak DVD Studio Pro has just spat out my first burn of the DVD (mind you it did take close to 6 hours to encode the footage to MPEG2!)
So there you go folks, corrupt video footage, even though it isn't playing was enough to halt my export and suck two days from my life. Lesson learned. -
XML not pulling color correction or Motion Generator data?
Does FCPX 10.0.8 support exporting XML data related to color correction or motion Generator templates?
If I export a project to XML and reimport the same XML film into FCPX all resources are recognized and appear in the correct place/lane. My custom motion title themes come through, but the "Whites" generator in the project reverts its settings to default (i.e., in the Generator tab of the inspector the pop up is set to Smokey (defualt) instead of "Bright White" (selected in my original project). I also loose any color work I did on any of my clips.
Anyone have a similar problem? Workaround?Hello veritasmediapro,
I was wondering if you discovered a solution for the above. I am experiencing the same as what you describe. I was hoping I could use the fcpxml format to have a 3rd party tool generate a file that changes motion generator parameter values. My plan was to use key frames. As far as my experiments tell generator parameters as well as key frames on generator parameters are not supported :-( -
Motion Generator - Cross Dissolve Changes Speed
Wow, this software is really, really buggy.
I have a simple sequence I created in Motion 5 and published as a generator. I bring it in FCP X and it's at about 60% size (already created a thread about that). I just do a Transform and enlarge it to work around this bug.
The new bug I just discovered is when I add a Cross Dissolve transition to fade out the Motion 5 sequence, it makes the timing of the Motion 5 sequence a lot faster. So the zoom blur treatment and the text animation sequence from Motion 5 get sped up about 200%.
Anyone else getting this?
Thanks!OK, so it appears that what is happening is if you trim a Motion generator in FCP, it retimes it so that all of the sequence happens in the shorter time, since you have cut it, versus elimating anything in the sequence that happens beyond where you trimmed.
So does this mean I have to go back to Motion to do a simple thing like trim a Motion sequence? If so, what is the point of merging Motion sequences with FCP X footage? It seems it would be easier to just take all the footage into Motion and then export that out as a QT ProRes movie and import that (like I did with AE back in 1995).

On my mac I have both Quicktime X and Quicktime 7 pro. Both applications seem to be crashing quite often lately. This happens when playing all files types. I notice it more with .flv file. It usually happens when i grab the time slider bar and try to move it. The apps will freeze and I have to "force quit" to get them to close. Sometimes putting the computer to sleep and waking it up helps. Is there a way to remedy this?

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Motion 3.0.2 Keep crashing on Macbook Pro and Mac Pro without any reasons.
We have a Mac Pro with FCS 2 and I have a Macbook Pro with FCS 2 installed too.
Motion 3.0.2 keep crashing on both machine, and the frequency of crashing in the Macbook Pro is much higher and unpredictable.
I have done a clean installation of OSX Leopard and FCS 2 on both machine and all the software on both machine have been updated to the latest version.
I have Macbook Pro with 4GB of RAM and both machine are working in PAL SD format.
I have not done anything complicate on both machine. I just try to do some vortex behavior, some simple particle test with rate set to 10-20.
Oh! Both of them crashes too even when I using the templates come with the system, and the MBP crashes much more than the Mac Pro, but again both crashes to a frequency unacceptable to be used as a production machine.

Importing Motion into FCE makes it crash
I've been trying to work out some problems with Final Cut Express (FCE). Through a long process I think it may have to do with Motion. FCE was crashing at startup when on cue it said "profiling for RT Extreme. Basically after reinstalling FCE, only sequences without Motion files worked and FCE would crash if I try to drop in or import Motion files.
I've included the posts I made in the FCE discussion:
"I've been using FCE HD for the last two years without any problem. If anything, it was nothing but a little trashing of the preferences ot fix the problem. But yesterday morning, I started FCE up. The startup window with through everything like normal. It reminded me that I didn't have any decks connected. I clicked "Continue". The next thing that it said it was on cue was "Profiling for RT Extreme". I heard the processor sputter and the fan kick in. Saw the bright colored wheel of paralysis and the program crashed. I trashed the preferences and restarted the computer. Later I trashed anything temporal and related to Final Cut Express and zapped the PRAM. I saw on one board that possibly it was the permissions. So I went through and verified and repaired all the disks and permissions. Yet nothing has changed the impeccable crashing. In effort to get back to work and try to finish a project by tomorrow, I called a friend and got his FCE HD disks, did a full uninstall, a full reinstall, and used my password. It started up just fine. I got my plug-ins and settings up and running and then started to work again, thinking all was fine. Opening any recent project made it crash immediately. I worked backwards through my autosave until I found a file that opened (which was hours of editing before all this happened). So I opened it, did some quick rendering. Then this project had a few Motion files that weren't in the project yet, so I tried to import them. Immediately the system crashed. Any Motion file will make it crash. Though, they open fine in Motion. So this makes me wonder if the reason it was crashing before is based on the Motion files which may have been a problem for FCE and its "Profiling For RT Extreme". So maybe why my sequences would make the system crash is based on the Motion files within in them. Hmmm. Motion 5 Title wont open in FCPX
Hi
I have created a title in FCPX. When i go to open it up in FCPX it is a blue screen and FCPX crashes - everytime.
I did delete the title background in Motion for the title. Will that make a difference?
I am using Motion 5.0.5 (I think - it is the latest version) and FCPX 10.0.1 on a Macbook Pro 2011 model.
ANy help is greatly appreciated.

There were some fundamental changes introduced in FCPX 10.0.3/Motion 5.0.2 (Onscreen control stuff) and again in 10.0.6/5.0.5 (drop zone stuff).
Newer versions of Motion 5 will create incompatible effects for older versions of Final Cut. (It would be helpful if Apple synchronized the subversion numbers of the two apps.)
In most cases, you do not want to delete the Title Background in Motion when developing a title (or the Effect Source for effects, or the Transition A/B layers for transitions) as these "entities" represent the Storyline the user sees in FCPX. If you need to perform "special effects" on the Storyline content for the effect/title/transition, then you can do what you have to do to create the changes you want to appear in Final Cut. In other words, whatever you do to the Title Background inside your Motion project is exactly what will happen to the content positioned "below the title" in FCPX. -
Moving clips between events crashes FCPX every time...
I'm trying to move clips from one event to another. I'm duplicating the clip first, and then I try to drag the duplicate of the clip to another event. Every time I do this, FCPX crashes.
Is this the right way to move clips? If not, how do I properly move clips from one event to another? What could be causing FCPX to crash every time? (I've tried different clips in different projects, and it still always crashes.)Hi Russ--
Yes, I tried his suggestion to use Organize Event. I don't think it helped.
I have a feeling your second question is probably just as if not more relevant. I tend to have almost everything in one project coming from the event it is associated with. But then I have some credits or titles or something that might be in another event. I wanted to bring them into the associated event to keep everything organized well.
But it seems like maybe what I should do is give up on that and wait to do anything like this until the project is finished and I'm ready to move it. I guess maybe I could then use the option to move the project and referenced events when I move the finished project? But the other event referenced is also referenced by other projects, so I don't know if that is a good idea.
Or maybe I should be using File> Consolidate Project Media...? But I don't know exactly what effect that would have.
I had just decided that it seemed like something I could do manually, and, when that didn't work, I got hung up on why it wouldn't work that way. I wanted to know why it wouldn't work that way, and now I've kind of given up on figuring that out in favor of continuing work on the projects.
