Motu 828mk3 With Logic 8

Hey guys,
Just upgraded to a Motu Mk3...having issues getting any sound out of Logic (and reason for that matter)
Its all set up properly and is working fine with Itunes...although once i open up logic...it trys to send the output signal to the analog channels and not master out.
I have selected all the right things in preferences but it still continues not to work.
any advice?
Your help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Matt

In Logic you need to set the outputs to Output 9-10. It is strange but it is the way Logic does it.

  • Anyone using motu 828mk3 with gb?

i like the i/o setup of the mk3 cause i need many stereo pairs for my drum modules, keyboards etc. i was told in motu forums only 1 output pair is supported by gb which is fine for anything i know how to do. one person said they thought only 2 inputs were available for gb. that seems unlikely but after speaking with a motu rep on phone about 828mk3 and gb, he could not confirm compatibility. i was like whoa who knows then? some motu forum users suggested i ask here in gb forums to see if others have had success with the two together. in the logic forum ive seen posts about the motu but i dont want to assume about gb. any info greatly appreciated. my gear is begging to be setup proper with my comp.

  • MOTU 828Mk3 & Logic Pro's default audio outputs

Hello people! Well, I received my MOTU 828Mk3 a couple of days ago and am very pleased with it so far, sonically much better than the Mk2 however I'm slightly frustrated with the default audio out in logic pro. The 828 is set-up fine with the default audio out set to master out, itunes etc all work fine but within logic pro the default output is analog 1-2, the master outputs are 9-10. So every-time I create a new project I have to select 9-10 as the output, I can live with that but if you drag any samples/loops into a project the output of the new track defaults to analog 1-2, bit of a pain. So my question is - Is there any way you can tell logic to use a default pair of outputs?
    Cheers
    Paul

You should be able to set the main outputs to be 1 and 2 in the MOTU setup app. I've done that with my 896mk3 and it works as expected. It just means that the outputs 1-8 on the unit are actually 3-10 in Logic.

  • Noob needs help with Logic and Motu live setup.

    Hello everyone,
I'm a noob / semi noob who could use some help with a live setup using 2 MOTU 896HD's and Logic on a Mac.
    Here's the scenario:
I teach an outdoor marching percussion section (a drumline and a front ensemble of marimbas and vibes). We have an amazing setup of live sound to amplify and enhance the mallet percussion. There is a yamaha PA system with 2 subs and 2 mains which are routed through a rack unit that processes the overall PA balance. I'm pretty sure that the unit is supposed to avoid feedback and do an overall cross-over EQ of the sound. Other then that unit, we have 2 motu896hd units which are routed via fire-wire. I also have a coax cable routing the output of the secondary box to the input of the primary box (digital i/o which converts to ADAT in (i think?)..?
    Here's the confusion:
There are more then 8 inputs being used from the ensemble itself, so I need the 16 available inputs to be available in Logic. I was lead to believe that the 2nd motu unit would have to be sent digitally to the 1st motu unit via coax digital i/o. Once in Logic, however, I cannot find the signal or any input at all past the 8th input (of the 1st unit).
    Here's the goal:
All of my performers and inputs routed via firewire into a Mac Mini running OSX and Logic pro.
I want to be able to use MainStage and run different patches of effects / virt. instruments for a midi controller keyboard / etc.
I want to be able to EQ and balance the ensemble via Logic.
    Here's another question:
How much latency will I be dealing with? Would a mac mini with 4gb of ram be able to handle this load? With percussion, I obviously want the sound as latency free as possible. I also, however, want the flexibility of sound enhancement / modification that comes with Logic and the motu896hd units.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated. I need the routing assistance along with some direction as to whether or not this will work for this type of application. I'm pretty certain it does, as I have spoken with some other teachers in similar venues and they have been doing similar things using mac mini's / logic / mainstage / etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

You'll definitely want to read the manual to make sure the 896HDs are connected together properly. ADAT is a little tricky, it's not just a matter of cabling them together. Go to motunation.com if you need more guidance on connecting multiple devices. Beyond that initial hookup, here are a couple of quick suggestions:
    1. Open CueMix and see if both devices are reported there. If not, your connections aren't correct. Be sure to select 44.1kHz as your sample rate, otherwise you are reducing the number of additional channels. For instance at 88.2kHz you would get half the additional channels via ADAT.
    2. You may need to create an aggregate device for the MacBook to recognize more than the first 896HD. Lots of help on this forum for how to do that. Again, first make sure you have the 896HDs connected together properly.
    3. As for latency with Mainstage on the Mini, no way to know until you try it. Generally MOTU is fantastic for low latency work but Mainstage is a question mark for a lot of users right now. If the Mini can't cut the mustard, you have a great excuse to upgrade to a MacBook Pro.

  • Audio interface problem with Waveburner...wil not send audio to MoTU 828mk3

When using Waveburner with a new MOTU 828Mk3 interface. the audio refuses to play via the 828 despite it being selected in the Audio Device window. It defaults to sending audio to my second display screen. Is there a re-set somewhere? It works fine with Logic9.

    Hi,
You need to select the MOtu 828mk3 as your default audio device under the Mac Os "Audio Midi Setup" application, and the "sound" preference pane in Preferences.

  • Motu Ultralite MK3 Hybrid with Logic X problem

    Hi,
    Has anyone had this problem:?
I'm using the Ultralite hybrid with logic X on an iMac i5,
Tried to change the sample rate in Recording settings from 44 to 96 and it totally freezes Logic up until I turn off the Motu.
normally this should switch the motu over to 96 aswell (well it did on Logic 8 no problem)
so now I'm stuck with only 44 to work with.
Kinda ***** as a lot of my projects are recorded at 96..
I also tried changing the sample rate with the mac core audio (no motu)
and it works fine. So I know this is probably a Motu problem but just wondered if anyone here is having the same problem.
I have updated all drivers and firmware and no change.
    Hope someone can help.

    Hi Everyone,
I'm back, unfortunately with the same problem.
After all the formatting, installing etc.. Everything was going ok, i even composed a whole piece at 96000
and upon starting a new project I went to change the sample rate again and I had the same problem.
Massive crashes, it's like the north pole here. I tried restarting , factory defaults on the motu, etc etc
Logic X runs great without the motu coneccted. what ever sample rate.
It's the strangest thing ever because I downloaded Reaper and it runs great, no problem changing sample rates and solid as a rock.
My old macbook 2009 (running mavericks and logic x) runs perfect, with the motu. I can change sample rates no problem.
Thing is ,the Imac is my main computer beacause it has the most RAM and can run heavy plugins like addictive keys etc.
I thought i might be a problem with the USB ports but Reaper proved me wrong.
    I'm a at a total loss.
I can't run a hardware test on mavericks, I can't figure out how.

  • Anyone using MOTU 8pre with 10.5.2/Logic 8 Express...?

Looking at a MOTU 8pre to use with Logic 8 Express. Does anyone know if the 8pre is compatible with Leopard 10.5.2... any issues to report?

I previously got the 8pre for 10.5.1 since my M-Audio Firewire 410 didn't offer drivers for leopard. So far I'm very happy with the Motu 8pre. I just got the new MBP Pernryn with 10.5.2 and hoping that everything continues smoothly. I've just downloaded the motu driver for 10.5.1 (the 10.5.2 motu driver isn't available yet) to use with 10.5.2 so I'll be plugging in my 8pre tonight for a test run.

  • Will MOTU 24I/O work with Logic Pro 9?

I am new to Logic Pro having converted from Sonar 7. I have a MOTU 24io and need to connect it to my iMac. I have been racking my brain trying to find help and all I can see is people say no. My former computer had the required PCI 424 card for firewire 400. I am not convinced. Is there a way to make it work?

In principle the 24i/o works great with logic. Your problem is connecting it to the iMac, and that's just not possible. The wire between your PC and the interface is not just firewire. It physically looks like it, but the low level protocol is different. The PCI 424 interface also brings additional HW that you don't have, like a stable audio clock to synchronize the interfaces to. So there is absolutely no way to get it to work with an iMac. You need a mac pro or a PC running Mac OS X.

  • I am having trouble with Logic 7 and my Motu 828mkII

I am running Logic Pro 7 with a MOTU 828mkII. Logic is not seeing the audio signal from any of the rear analog inputs on my 828. The 828 is receiving the signal and I have fiddled with cuemix to make sure everything is as it should be. Motu support said that it was a logic issue, in spite of that, I sent the unit back to them to fix it and it returned with the same issue, that it is working but logic is not. I am doing something wrong. . . please tell me what it is. thanks!

What do you have selected in the drivers menu in audio hardware prefs?

  • Mainstage 2 on motu 828mk3 unstable

Unfortunately mainstage 2 on snowleopard with motu 828mk3 is very unstable.
(I fully clean install snowleopard and logic studio after the trouble but have no luck.)
cursol is heavy from time to time and after midi contorol via amt8 it stops to sound and only way to do is to switch off 828mk3 and restart.
    Is anyone have same problem?

Mhhh ...... Could be the MOTU.
I have the same setup, and SOMETIMES suddenly have BIG latency problems (e.g. EVP88)..
Hitting panic or just waiting (up to 5 seconds) works.
Dont have another interface to check if the MOTU could be the cause.
I set up my concert from scratch, after finding out that my imported MS1 concert didnt perform at all.

  • Recording a Line Signal through Motu 828mk3 into Cubase, Please help!

    Hello everyone,
So i use Motu 828mk3, pair of m-audio monitors, I have logic but find Cubase more compatible for my style. I want to record a line in signal from my DJ mixer (allen&heath xone 62, pair of Pionner cdjs-1000).
So i connect the main outs (xlr to 1/8") into my Motu analog 1-2 ins. The meter on the Motu reads the signal, i expected the signal to come through my monitors although they are silent. I dont understand what blocks the Main Outs of my Motu.(If i play a song on itunes or a sample in cubase it plays through my monitors)
I set everything correct on my Motu Audio Setup, i put Default input as my Analog 1-2, and default main outs as Main Outs.
The Cue mixer which comes with Motu reads the in signal also. I tried to get it connected though cubase too, but im assuming that once i get motu release the signal through my outs i will be able to connect it through cubase.
Seems like i tried everything in my knowledge, now i need your help. Thank you folks

Yes i checked on My system preferences, everything is there for Motu, it reads the input and it send out sound from itunes youtube etc.
In cubase, well first i feel like the input should come out the Main outs of the Motu even if wouldnt want to record anything right ?
And yes in cubase everything seems to be set to record, drivers are motu on, setting are set, the handle (little speaker) is on to record, in preferences of Device setup motu it set active.

  • HT3956 I have tried to connect three MOTU 828mk3's using this new aggregate device listed here, but it wont work any suggestions?

    Hi
I am trying to use three 828mk3's with an analouge desk and after creating a new aggregate device in Audio/midi set up it doesn't seem to work, also the blue shaded are doesn't allow me to move the volume up or down?
    Any suggetions?
    Thanks

    Hi
The situation is like this, we have ordered 3 motu 828mk3 AI's to replace old avid hardware. We have a 24 track analogue BIG desk made by langley. The issue is that Logic 9 and Pro tools 10 don't want to use all the sound cards together, if we change the playback engine to MOTU 2 then we can use channels 9-16, then the 3rd one for channels 17-24 etc. Looking around at forums and other sites as lead me to set up a new aggregate device in the audio/midi set up in utilities. Again after we tried this it still doesn't allow us to use all three together. Motu state that you can daisy chain up to 4 devices, i have sent an email to MOTU but have yet to gain a response.

  • Which is the best MIDI interface to use with Logic 7 ?

    Hi folks :o)
Firstly, thanks all for any advice you can give. I'm a pro user, but right in the middle of a major upgrade (G4/OS9/CubaseVST32 >> G5/OSX/CubaseSX3/Logic7) & feel a huge learning curve coming on!
    The situation is this:
I have a Steinberg Midex 8 midi interface, plus a MOTU MTPav in the cupboard. The Midex took place of the MTPav because it had much better midi timing under OS9 with Cubase... The Midex8 drivers for OSX, however, are still beta & a pile of rubbish. (It keeps losing communication with the G5.) I'm fed up with how bad Steinberg have been sorting (not!) these problems out (not to mention the fact that Cubase SX3 can't recognise my 'studio' created in Audio Midi Setup either.. arghh!), so I'm considering jumping ship & going entirely to Logic in one hit, plus whichever is the best midi-interface for this software & OSX.
As food for thought, I'm currently thinking of tracking down a 'Unitor 8', having made the (perhaps wrong) assumption that it'd work 'best' with Logic seeing as it was made by Emagic. BUT, despite a lengthy search in Logic 7's manuals & this forum, I can't find any mention of Emagic's 'Active Midi Transmission' protocol & whether or not Logic 7 supports it; AMT is the only reason I'd buy the Unitor. (I've got all the other bases covered with the MTPav.) I'm also concerned about the long-term support issues regarding drivers for the Unitor 8 & OSX; ****, I'm having enough problems with Steinberg & their Midex 8 (which is still a current product in theory!) without throwing Emagic & a midi interface that's no longer manufactured into the pot...
So..... What do you folks feel is the best midi interface to use with Logic 7 as regards tight midi timing & system reliability? Can anyone out there with a big midi setup categorically say "I've got one (or more) of these MIDI interfaces, it works beautifully under OSX & Logic 7, & the MIDI timing is rock-solid, even when put under heavy midi 'duress' " ??
Many thanks again in advance for any feedback!
Your new Logic Pro virgin ;o)
    Jason

Thanks for your reply folks. It's good to hear a number of you are having good results with your MTPav - I guess I'll pull mine out of the cupboard in that case!
As an aside, it's been interesting to note how difficult it's been to get a clear answer from companies (be it shops or Apple) as to whether or not Logic 7 supports 'Active Midi Transmission' on the old Unitor 8 MkII..... (The reference manual has one mention of it in the index, yet points to a page that doesn't say anything about AMT at all!)
If anyone here DOES have a clear answer about AMT with Logic 7, I'd be very interested to hear about it... thanks.
    Kind regards,
    JC

  • I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic but Logic won't send midi data out to the MOTU Traveller to the Piano Disc player

    Hello All,
I can record midi data from my Mason & Hamlin Piano Disc Pro Record through my MOTU Traveller into Logic Pro 9.1.8  but Logic won't send the midi data back out to the MOTU Traveller and thus to the Piano Disc player. I got it to playback one time but have no idea how and when it did it was looping or something because the velocity was way high coming back in and the damper pedal was slamming down. When I play a key on the piano the midi "in" light on the Traveller lights up. When I play the track back on my computer no lights blink on the Traveller and when I did the apple midi studio test in utilities when I play a key I get the confirmation signal noise and the Traveller blinks when I click on the down arrow of the Traveller in the Apple midi studio test the midi out light on the traveller never lights and the signal light on the piano does not blink either. No outbound signal at all...
I have messed with every possible parameter I can find and and have had help from one of Piano Disc's premier editors but no luck. The piano was prepped for me on Logic so it would work with my studio.  I'm positive it's my fault and I'm overlooking something really simple and stupid but what!??!
Somebody please help.  Thank you all in advance for ANY ideas you might have!

    Blues Piano,
I'm not sure if this will be a help or not.  I'm so Logic Pro wet behind the ears that I make newbies look experienced.  However, I'm not expecting many on the Apple support forums have a PianoDisc system, much less one with the new optical record strip.  While I don't have any record strip on my PianoDisc, I do have a PianoDisc iQ that's only a month old.  I've been playing converted paper scrolls from hundred year old player pianos through it via the MIDI in port of the PianoDisc CPU.  I've found I have to open the MIDI file in Logic Pro (10.0.4) then go to <Track><New External MIDI Track> then copy the existing track to that new external track.  Only then can I see in the Track inspector (defaults left side of screen with the Icon for the instrument) the "Port" parameter.  Then I can select my external MIDI device in that Port selector.
I've also encountered problems with the PianoDisc not using enough force on the notes or using too much force.  To get around this problem, until I understand Logic better, I've been setting minimum and maximum volicities.  To do that I right click on the track and select "Select All."  Then I right click again and select "MIDI" then "MIDI Transform"  then "Velocity Limiter."  In the resulting pop up window in the center is a drop down and you can play with the velocity from "MIN" to "MAX" along with "ADD" "SUBTRACT" etc.
I hope this helps.  I envy you your Mason & Hamlin.  If you need more help on this just email me at pfleischmann at mac dot com.

  • Audio interfaces that work well or poorly with Logic

I know asking what everyone thinks is the best audio interface for Logic (Express or Pro - I currently have Express 8) is highly subjective. What I want to know is if anyone feels that certain interfaces work particularly well or particularly poorly with Logic. I'm mostly interested in firewire interfaces with 8 analog inputs under $600 (a la Motu 8 pre, Presonus Firestudio Project, Focusrite Saffire Pro 10, etc). Driver problems? Latency issues? etc?
I'm new to Logic and home recording in general, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey,
you said you are using Edirol FA-66 with Logic Express 8? i have the same set up but it will only record for 1:17 minutes before giving me a error message... "Logic Express: (-10005) Disk is too slow. (record)" and "Logic Express: (-10004) disk is too slow. (record)".
i as you can see have a ultra fast and big HD with over 70GB free. nothing besides Logic is running to compensate for the low ram. and it doesnt matter what setting i use it gives me the error... by increasing the buffer it only lengthens the time before it gives me the error again... with the bigger buffer i can get 3:38 minutes out of it.
i've called apple support and they couldnt help me... and thats with pro audio care. and i called edirol and they couldnt do anything but tell me to call apple again.
my wife has a Core dueo Mac book Pro 2Ghz 2Gb ram and a slow 5400rpm HD with a lot of room too and i get the same error... using both external and internal HDs.
i'm getting the same error with her computer as well as mine using Logic Express 8 and All Versions of GarageBand. I had a Demo of Ableton Live 6 and my edirol FA-66 worked fine recording with it.
the problem is with recording and not with anything else.
    any help would be appreciated,
    Jordan
