Mount in linux

created a directory
/oracle/apps/vIs
to mount this directory is this the correct command
mount /oracle/apps/vis

(unless i didnot understand you correctly)
if you create the directoy and you can access it there is no need to mount it. mount is to mount a new harddisk or usb disk to a path in the linux server but since you already carate the vis and you can access it and it has a space then there is no need to run the command mount

  • 10.6.2 breaks AFP mount from linux

I have two network shares on a linux machine as I have insufficient space on my iMac - the iMac disk is 250GB, my music share with my iTunes library is 100G and my pictures share with my Aperture photos is 300G. The linux box exports the two shares using AFP.
Let's imagine that my user name on my iMac is xxx and the user who owns the files on the linux box is yyy (these are not the real user names ...).
Prior to 10.6.2, if I connect to the shares as xxx, then they would mount read only. In order to use them for their intended purpose, I had to connect as yyy so that I would have read/write permissions.
After upgrading to 10.6.2, the shares mount as read only regardless of what user name I use when mounting them. This means that they are no longer usable for their intended purpose.
The same fault occurs on my iMac and my MacBook Air after upgrading to 10.6.2. The linux server was running continuously during the upgrade - no reboot, no change in configuration, no other processes touching the files, no permission changes.
One of the things listed at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874 *About the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update* is:
_Network file systems fixes provided for_:
    * compatibility with third-party AFP servers
In my case, this change has broken the functionality I need.

Barney-15E: Thanks for pointing out that other thread, I'll keep an eye on it.
I'm not sure what you are suggesting I do. What I can see in the sharing preferences pane is information about what the Mac OS X box is exporting. The shares that are giving me trouble are mounted by the Mac OS X systems, not exported by them. They are exported by a linux box. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting, which does not help.

  • Does file share preview support NFS for mounting in linux?

I've been experimenting with the file share preview and realized that cifs doesn't really support a true file share, allowing proper permissions.
Is it possible to use the file share with NFS?
    thanks
    Ricardo

    RicardoK,
No, you can't mount an Azure file share via NFS. Azure file shares only support CIFS (SMB version 2.1). Although it doesn't support NFS you can still mount it to a Linux system via CIFS. Install the "cifs-utils" package ("apt-get
install cifs-utils" on Ubuntu). You can then mount it manually like this:
    $ mount -t cifs \\\\mystorage.blob.core.windows.net\\mydata /mnt/mydata -o vers=2.1,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,username=mystorageaccount,password=<apikeygoeshere>
Or you can add it to your /etc/fstab to have it mounted automatically at boot. Add the following line to your /etc/fstab file:
    //mystorage.blob.core.windows.net/mydata /mnt/mydata cifs vers=2.1,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,username=mystorageaccount,password=<apikeygoeshere>
It's not as good as having a real NFS export, but it's as good as you can get using Azure Storage at the moment. If you truly want NFS storage in Azure, the best approach is to create a Linux VM that you configure as an NFS file server and create NFS
exports that can be mounted on all of your Linux servers.

  • Mount OES Linux NSS to remote OES Linux NSS?

Have an issue where I dont have an evault backup agent on a new server I created yet. Both servers are running NSS and both are Oes2sp2. Is it possible to mount a (ready only?) directory from one server so it shows up on the other and is able to be backed up?

I get a lot of "items added to download" in the post office logs.. then things just seem to stop. no more information in the log files and the threads just seem "stuck".
    Hey Joe,
Yes, lately (maybe the last 3 months or so) we've had issues even across the LAN (like two servers sitting next to each other) where ncpmount just "disconnects". This makes restoring things REALLY fun (not!!)
I'm not sure if it's maybe the watchdog packets killing the connection or what.
I've not tried the automount thingy yet. I forgot about it. Anyway, just printed out the stuff and we'll give it a whirl.
Note: This is with OES2 SP3 32 and 64-bit. I've even tried patching things to the latest patches to no avail.

    hi please help me

Linux uses a EXT drive/partition format that OS X or Windows can't read.
    Far as I know, there isn't a easy GUI/auto method/software that I can recommend.
My advice would be to use a MBR with FAT32 or exFAT as a intermediate universal exchange format on a seperate drive or USB key.
Most USB keys and drives already come FAT32 MBR formatted,

  • Mounting an Apple disk image (Intel Mac) under other Unixes/Linux

    Hello,
I have started my MacBook in HDD Mode and connected it via Firewire-Cable to my "Main-Server" (Slackware Linux 11.0).
From there i created a "Disk-Image" from my MacBooks HDD using "dd"
I can mount the disk image within OS X without any problems, but i can´t mount it on the Linuxbox.
I have used this cmd under Linux : "mount -o loop -t hpfs image.dmg /mnt/tmp" But i am getting an error saying that it doesn´t seem to be a Apple File System Image.
I have made sure that support for Apple FS is "compiled-in" in the Linux-Kernel. If i do a file image.dmg i get this:
    x86 boot sector; partition 1: ID=0xee, starthead 254, startsector 1, 117210232 sectors, extended partition table (last)\011
Does anyone know how i can mount this image under Linux?
    Thanks,
    tyrtux.

I can't offer any solution yet, but here's a bit of information that might prove useful in understanding the problem.
"mount" on Linux mounts file systems, not disk images. A disk image is just that -- a bit-for-bit image of the sectors on what would be a physical disk. A file system is a portion of a disk structured in a specific way -- a section set aside for managing free space, a "root" directory, etc.
A partition is a logical subdivision of a disk. Usually, each file system on a disk completely fills one partition; but partitions may overlap, and one partition may contain any number of file systems.
A disk -- and therefore a disk image -- contains, within its first physical sector, a partition map. The map includes the start sector, size, and type of each partition. The type usually hints at what the file system -- if any -- of the associated partition is.
When you connect a physical drive to a Linux system -- be it IDE, SCSI, USB, or CD-ROM -- Linux scans the partition table. You can then use mount to get access to individual file systems on the device. When you use "mount -o loop", you are asking mount to connect a loopback device to a file that represents not a disk -- but a file system. This is why your attempt is failing; the disk image doesn't look like a file system, it looks like a disk -- it has a partition table of its own.
You might be able to map the file to a drive for VmWare, and access it from the virtual machine. Otherwise, I'd hunt around for software that deals with complete disk images, not just file systems.

  • How to mount linux hd?

I just purchased a 2012 mac mini running osx 10.8.2.  I want to mount my old linux hard drive on it because this is where all of my data is stored.  Is this possible? if so how?

I'm trying it now, After plugging in I get this message:
"The distk you inserted was not readable by this computer."
    Followed by three options:
    -Initialize...
    -Ignore
    -Eject
    I try "Initialize..."
    The Disk Utility opens.
The disk in question is listed on the disk utility as:
500.11 GB Generic USB Disk Media
-SMART Status is "not supported" (whatever that means)
The disk has 2 "disks" below it, both are light grey, which I take it means something to the tune of "not mountable."
One is called "disk1s1" and contains 497.05 GB.  The other is called "Linux Swap."  This contains 3.05 GB.  Selecting either of this and clicing the "mount" button in the Disk Utility does nothing, they continue to list "Not Mounted" as their "Mount Point."
Is it possible to mount this Linux HD?

You can download the installers (GPL) for Fuse and SSHFS for Mac OS X 10.5 or later from:
    http://osxfuse.github.com/
Then open the Terminal.app and type sshsf... same as under Linux. Check the Finder Preferences to enable connected servers to see mounted volumes on the desktop.

  • Mounting a BeOS Filesystem under Linux - Is it possible?

    Hello everyone,
Is there a stable way to mount the BeOS filesystem used by haiku OS under Linux? I found a few experimental ways but the information seems outdated and only supports the 2.2 kernel, ideas?

suport has been in the linux kernel since 2.4 apparently, though the page I got this from said it was readonly. However, that was from 2006, so..
from http://www.freelists.org/post/haiku/Mou … ux-distros (i.e. the first google result for 'mount befs linux')
Alright, I'll try it when I get home - I did a Google search and I didn't find a whole lot. However, I am at work and I couldn't access some web sites. All it needs to be is readonly since I am just retieving some data from Haiku as I don't really trust aphla software.

  • How to backup a Linux server over ssh using Leopard?

I have a server running Linux, and my main machine is a Macbook running Leopard. I want to back up the entire root directory (including subdirectories) of the Linux server to an external HDD attached to Macbook.
My initial thought was to mount the Linux server's root directory on Leopard using sshfs, and then use RSyncX to backup that mounted directory on external HDD attached to Leopard. Unfortunately sshfs mounted directories are not treated as "drives" by RsyncX (and a lot of other apps).
    Can someone help? Thanks!

I am currently in the process of setting up a small form factor pc running a linux distro as my router/firewall and will be looking for a backup system on my network which is mostly mac based.
I just googled 'timemachine for linux' and got a few good results.
    http://handsonhowto.com/2007/timemachine4linux/
and also a tool call flyback
You could also try setting up your backup drive as an NFS sharepoint.

I know my post does not answer your issue directly but flyback is the solution I am going to try.

  • T400s Linux/Windows dual boot with Linux from Esata Flash Drive

This project is about a dual boot Windows/Linux system without using the normal dual boot changes in the bootloader of the windows hard drive. When I started this I found bits and pieces of information on the web but no complete description so I wrote this post.
I have done a dual boot system on my previous Thinkpad where I had partitioned the hard drive between Linux and windows. For this project I wanted to leave the windows hard drive absolutely intact and unaltered, and boot Linux from a flash drive in the esata port on the back of the T400s. Obviously this uses the F12 boot list function key to boot from the flash. The advantage of this is that Windows is totally unaltered and when I need Linux, I plug in the esata flash drive, hit F12 during the boot cycle and select booting from the esata flash drive. The reason for Esata rather than USB is simply speed. I have a nice fast Linux installation.
I used the OCZ esata flash drive but suspect any of the alternatives will work. It did not need the accessory usb cable because the Thinkpad powered the esata flash directly.
To boot from the esata drive I had to make the following changes in the bios
I left the esata flash plugged in as I went into the bios
Bios>config>Serial ATA and changed the Sata controller mode option to compatibility
Restart and back into the Bios
Bios>startup>boot - in my case the esata flash drive showed up as ATA HDD2 and was excluded from the boot order so I had to un-exclude it and move it to the point in the boot order that I wanted.
Next I downloaded a linux installation iso and put it on a CD - in my case opensuse. Then booted from the CD
From now on this instructions are specific to opensuse and yast but can be generalized to whatever Linux is being used.
In my case yast came up with a good set of suggestions for automatically partitioning the flash drive but then crashed during the partitioning itself. So I rebooted and specified the partitions manually.
A fat32 partition left as a partition which both windows and Linux could see (in my case about 20% of the drive) (/dev/sdb1)
An extended partition with the remainder of the drive (/dev/sdb2) which contains the following logical partitions
        A linux Swap partition of 2GB (/dev/sdb5)
A linux /home partition –the remainder of the drive (/dev/sdb6)
        A linux /root partition of 8GB (/dev/sdb7)
Yast automatically suggested mount points of C,D,E for the windows partitions. Unfortunately because of the way the Thinkpad hard drive was laid out Yast had C assigned the ThinkPad Service partition and D assigned to the SW_Preload (or main windows partition). However there was an edit function that allows for the reversal of those mount points so that the windows C drive is mounted in Linux as Windows/C thereby avoiding confusion. I had already backed up and removed the Thinkpad factory install data so I did not have to deal with that. Yast suggested Windows/E for the mount point of the FAT32 partition on the flash drive, which I accepted.
The yast install configurator made all this manual selection easy, and after the manual configuration the partitioning worked perfectly.
Next step was Linux user configuration which went fine
    Next was booting.
    In the section management tab
delete the windows 1 and 2 options (since we are not dual booting directly)
In the boot loader installation tab
uncheck boot from mbr ( this stops the install from installing Grub and dual boot on the windows c drive
check boot from root partition (this installs grub and all associated files in the Linux root partition (/dev/sdb6)
I believe that the correct procedure at this point is to click Boot Loader installation details which will bring up the Grub device map. In the device map there will be a line for the fixed hard drive (aka the windows drive) and a line for the esata flash drive. When the installer started up these were in hard drive and esata drive order. However when we boot directly from the flash the esata drive will be grub drive hd0 and the fixed hard drive will be grub hd1. The device map order needs to be changed to reflect this ie the esata drive should be first not second.
I did not do this and ended up initially doing Grub command line editing to boot and later manually editing the grub files using information I had previously learned the hard way and through google.
At this point let the installer go ahead and install Linux. After doing this it should come back and tell you to reboot. Do not do it yet because we need to install the MBR into the flash drive.
I suspect that there is a way of doing this in Yast running from the Live CD but it was not obvious to me so I used the manual method that I have used before.
    Open a root terminal
Mount /dev/sdb6 to /mnt/sdb6 (my linux root)
    Touch /mnt/sdb6/boot/grub/flag
The purpose of this is when we go looking later at the grub command prompt we need an easy to find unique file
Start grub and do the following
    #grub
                grub> find /boot/grub/flag
(hd1,5)    -- the result of the find in my example
grub> root (hd1,5)   -- using the result of the find in my example
grub> setup (hd1)   -- install mbr -- my example parameters - if you get this wrong you will trash some other drive!!!
                      hopefully grub announces success
                grub> quit
Reboot and select the flash drive. In my case I still had the grub devicemap wrong and had to edit the grub commands during boot to tell grub how to find the correct partition and then edit them again after booting
Typical linux install issues that we all always seem to have and can be solved with a little (or a lot of) google research.
As I said at the beginning I now have an untouched windows installation and a nice fast Linux installation. I hope that this will be of some use to someone.

    Hi chrissh
i tried this exact procedure... on the exact same notebook (T400s). However, as soon as I set the
Bios>config>Serial ATA to "compatibility", I cannot use my default Windows installation! I immediately get the "blue screen of death".
I doubt I did anything differently since this is the first step of your procedure and my laptop is brand new!
    any idea?
