Mountain Lion displayed previously recorded CD as Blank

Hi I have recently come across an issue (BUG) in mountain lion.
Pervasively recorded CD's from old OS now show as blank?
If you dual book into windows or put the CD into SL 10.6 information displays, but for some reason ML 10.8 displays the disk as BLANK.
I have spoke to Senior techs and apple store Geniuses who just told me that ML is not compatible with older OS?
Great thanks for that Genius diagnosis.
SOLUTION:
After a lot of searching around I figure this was not the CD's problem but rather the session language in which it was originally Recorded / Burned. I figured as it was an old disk it may have been burned with Legacy software language eg Joliet level3 or something.
To read these apparent disks in ML you need to do the following in terminal to force mount the older cd session.
1.Open terminal
2.List all volumes to determine which volume we need to force mount.
$ diskutil list
identify the CD mount identifier for the first volume mine was disk1s1. disk0 is normally your internal HD and disk1 is normally the first other drive you have inserted in your system, in this case the CD.
Note if you have other .dmg files mounted or usb drives mounted the CD may be on disk2 or disk3?
Once you determine which disk it is you want to mount the first partition of that disk.
In my case it was disk1s1.
From trial and error I figured it was normally the first s1 after the disk rather than s1s1 or s1s2
this is what you will get once you run $ diskutil list
/dev/disk1
   #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
   0:        CD_partition_scheme                        *790.8 MB   disk1
   1:     Apple_partition_scheme                         658.4 MB   disk1s1
   2:        Apple_partition_map                         1.0 KB     disk1s1s1
   3:                  Apple_HFS Untitled CD             658.0 MB   disk1s1s2
Once you know the disk IDENTIFIER as disk1s1 we can force mount it using something called cd9660.fs.
3. we need to make a directory for us to mount the partition into.
$ mkdir /Volumes/tempCD
4. now we can mount the partition disk1s1 into our newly created tempCD directory
$ sudo /System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/Contents/Resources/cd9660.util -M disk1s1 /Volumes/tempCD
sudo means you will have to put the admin password in when you run this command.
You will now get a mounted CD called tempCD and you should be able to browse the files on it.
5. to unmount the CD you will have to run this command
$ sudo /System/Library/Filesystems/cd9660.fs/Contents/Resources/cd9660.util -u disk1s1 /Volumes/tempCD
In future you do not need to run the  $ mkdir /Volumes/tempCD as it already exists so you only need to run mount and unmount steps 4 and 5 and of course each time you put in a new disk run step 1 to make sure you are mounting the correct partition of the correct disk.
this has worked for me and has allowed me to read old CD's that ML had decided were not compatible.
Apple if you read this why do you drop finder support for older CD's?
Good luck hope this helps people.

There is a workaround to use for strict backup purposes:
The Notes data is stored in 3 files, deep inside your Library folder.
To see the Library folder:
In Finder       Go (hold Alt/Option key) select Library,
then drill to   Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes   <<  backup this folder.
NotesV1.storedata
NotesV1.storedata-shm
NotesV1.storedata-wal
Good luck.

  • Mountain Lion Mail previous recipients question

I have searched to figure out how to do this and I'm sure the answer is somewhere but I can't find it.  I have edited a group in my address book and am now trying to send Mail to the edited group but Mail keeps autofilling in the old group.  Thankfully I discovered this by expanding the group in my email to make sure the list of recipients was correct.  It wasn't.  How do I get Mail to forget the recipients of the "old" group and use the newly edited group?  Thought that groups might show up in the "previous recipients" list under window>previous recipients and then I could just remove the group and start over but the group name isn't in that list.  Hope this makes sense!

Well, thanks so much for the response and your attempt to help!  However, when I control click the group and send email that way, it STILL populates with the old group.  Ugh!  For example, John Doe is in the "old group" but I have edited him and lots of others out of the group and others into the group but he still shows up in the list of recipients and the new guys are missing.
I have worked around this issue by just renaming the group but I'd really like to name it the old name because that is the name that makes sense!  I've worked around the problem for now but would still like to know the answer to this issue.  The crazy thing is that this happened to me this summer and I fixed it somehow but can't remember how!   I thought it was by removing the group from previous recipients list.  Perhaps that was the solution but the problem happened before I moved to Mountain Lion when several things changed in Mail.
Thanks again for attempting to help!  Good to know the control-click trick straight from Contacts/Address Book--whatever it's now called.

  • Running mountain lion, display won't sleep

Anyone else have this problem ? I don't know if its a macbook retina issue or mountain lion issue, just want to see how common it is. The screen won't turn off even after I set power preferences to turn off when idle for 2 min. When I try to force it to sleep from apple drop down menu, the screen turns black and freezes.

    Hey mzmarsha91,
Thanks for the question. When troubleshooting iTunes on OS X, the following articles provide some of the best information:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
    - Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
    - Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
    - Slow performance.
    - iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
    - You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
Isolating an issue by using another user account

    Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
    Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.

  • RPUAUD00 Reports is not displaying previous records details just new records

    Hi Guru,
Need some input, I am trying to get infotype log. I maintain V_T585A/B/C for Infotype 2.
Can you check screen shot of the same and confirm why its not displaying old records .
    Regards,
    Vijay Agarwal

did you select long term documents? - Long-term documents are used for revision purposes, in other words to find out who changed, deleted or created what and when. check changes of note no. 44206 means, table PCL4 can get pretty large and as a follow up the report RPUAUD00 might take a long time to evaluate the logged changes in the infotype data. Please note that when an archive is selected, then the found archive is read until the record is found. This can take a lot of time (taken into account the access to the file itself), especially with large files. That is currently standard design behavior. But you can run regulary report RPUAUDDL to delete old entries in PCL4. PCL4 contains change documents for Master Data and applicant admin. In PCL4 there are four clusters: LA, LB, SA, and SB.  It contains the data created by using the 'write infotype document' function.  LX are long-term documents, SX are short-time documents. 'A' stands for employee, 'B' for applicant.  The 'write infotype document' function is maintained in tables T585A, T585B, and T585C.

  • Can anyone help as I can no longer record classical music video after Mountain Lion upgrade?

    Hi,
Before my upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion,I could record video from Medici tv     using Jaksta  with no problems.
Since Mountain Lion, I can still record  with Jaksta - but when played back on iTunes the recordings break up and are unwatchable.
Any ideas and possible solutions gratefully received
    Les
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 1067 MHz RAM

O.K  I have worked out how to fix it.I first went back to Medici tv where  I read ''  Software requirements are
Flash Player version 11 recommended ".So I have installed that. The point about that is-I presume- that I must
have  had it there when using Medici successfully in Snow Leopard. So it looks like  FP must have been
uninstalled by me in error at some time !! D'oh!
Then I found that FP uses  RTMP and( I think HTTP )  protocols. In Jaksta preferences I had been previously
advised to uncheck " Always record HTTP and RTMP streams ".Having now   rechecked those options, my
ability to record from Medici is  restored.
However this all happened ,I'm up and running again.
Thanks for your interest varjak paw ,much appreciated.

  • Mountain Lion MBP to Projector difficulties.

Mountain Lion MBP to Projector difficulties. I have the right VGA cable and the VGA to miniport adapter, but no luck. The "arrangements" tab in the Display section of the system preferences doesn't even appear. I've tried low resolution, safe boots, etc.
    What should I do?
    Thank you in advance.

I have got the same problem ever since I updated to Mountain Lion. I record my TV shows to my computer. Once they are recorded, they're converted and sent to iTunes overnight. Once the task was done, it'd go to sleep. Well, that used to be the case until I updated to Mountain Lion. Now, the shows are recorded, but when I wake up in the morning, the computer is asleep, and the conversion is half-way done. This DID NOT used to happen. So, one does not necessarily need to be there typing or moving the mouse to keep the computer awake. If it is performing a task, why should it enter into sleep mode? Disklike.
Glad to know I am not the only one dealing with this issue. It seems also like with every update of OS X my computers become slower. Restart has become slower. My PC(!!) at school is faster than my MBP. What gives!!
    Sadness.

  • Mountain lion finder search scroll bug

    Hi all,
I've found another major bug in Mountain Lion. Previous bugs include:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/19426052?ac_cid=op123456#19426052
This bug is in the Finder scrolling function in a search window.
When searching for a file in Finder (or through Spotlight -> then clicking "Show all in Finder"), the results appear as normal. However, when scrolling down the finder window, the content keeps resetting to the top of the list, making it extremely difficult to find anything that is not displayed in the available window space.
Hope this gets noticed & fixed in the next update.
    Regards

I've had this same Spotlight results scroll focus change OS bug ever since Mountain Lion. I've observed it on 3 different macbook pros, both with an upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion, and also a complete CLEAN install of Mountain Lion on a brand new disk where I've not dragged over any system files, preferences or apps. For me, all ML exhibit this bug from 10.8 to the most current 10.8.3.
I have not edited the Search Results categories that are selected (in Preferences > Spotlight)
The only time this has not occurred is in the first 2 days of the using the clean install of ML. The scroll focus behaved correctly even with a lot of results. It's now been a week since the clean install and the scroll focus change bug is now active again since day 3. It is possible to scroll slowly with the mouse wheel/gesture and it won't always (10% of the time?) snap focus to the top.
Thanks for the reference link above, but it was not helpful to me:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12261261#12261261
The thread refers to OS 10.6., and I did not observe this bug in that OS, or 10.7.
One recommendations is to delete the plist (preferences), but this is not a practical solution because the problem comes back quickly.
The other recommendation is to turn off calculate size of files or the Spotlight results folder. It is not possible, as far as I can see, to turn calculate sizes on in the View Options for the Spotlight results window. It is possible to turn on/off sizes as a column in the results, but this made no difference with the bug.
Other tests I've performed that did not fix the bug:
Change "Show scroll bars:" to  "Always". This made no difference.
Change "Click in the scroll bar to:" to "Jump to the spot that's clicked". No difference.
Other tests that could be performed:
    1) System Preferences > Spotlight: Search Results - turn categories on and off to see if that makes a difference.
And finally, this has reduced the problem to occurring only 10% of the time now!
turn off Smooth Scrolling. This is no longer a checkbox in System Preferences > Appearance in 10.8 ML, so you have to use a shell command in Terminal. If you want to explore this approach look at these two references:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120726122633912
    http://www.marekbell.com/how-to-disable-smooth-scrolling-in-mountain-lion/
Now I'm waiting to see if other parts of the ML OS will be negatively affected by turning off Smooth Scrolling, and then I'll decide which is worse. Bottom line, this is not a fix, but it seems to have reduced the occurrence of the Spotlight results scroll focus change OS bug.

  • Anyone know if "Clickbook" will be compatible with Mountain Lion?

Just need to know if Clickbook will work with mountain lion?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, I just found out that my clickbook has stopped working with my mountain lion.  Previously worked well.  Now it just prints blank pages.  However, a workaround is to print a previous in clickbook (which for some reason works) then print the pdf the preview creates.  If anyone hears of a fix I would be glad to know.  Blue Squirrel's online process says that my clickbook version. 4.08 should work with mountain liion.  This may mean that it is a problem only with my configuration not anyone elses.  Input anyone?

  • Time Machine backup from clean reinstall of mountain lion

I have a few niggles before and after installing mountain lion. Previously using snow leopard.
I want to do a clean reinstall of mountain lion and then use time machine to restore files and folders.
I dont want to do a full restore of time machine as i dont want to restore my niggles.
When I currently go into Time machine the restore button is alwats greyed out.
I am therefore not confident of being able to restore files selectively after clean reinstall.
I must admit I dont fully understand how time machine works after reading various tips and instructions.
Can anyone help or steer me in the right direction please.
    Niggles include:-
    Cant run Kaspersky or Sophos
    Shutdown and restart problems
Small Desktop screen in front of blue screen after leaving idle for a while
    Thanks

    macfan110 wrote:

That button should be enabled once you navigate to a backup and select something.
But it's not going to work that way once you erase the internal HD.  That's because the erased drive is treated as being a different one.  Since the "old" drive isn't connected, you can't restore things to the place they were saved from, via the Restore button.
But you should be able to select what you want, right-click it, and choose the Restore <item> to ... option, to get a prompt to select the "new" drive.
Also, if you don't use either Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to put your stuff back, Time Machine will do a full backup of the "new" drive.  You may be able to prevent that, by telling it to "associate" the "new" drive with the old backups, per #B6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting

  • Mac pro not sleeping since mountain lion upgrade from Lion

Hi, just wondering if anybody was having problems with their mac not sleeping after upgrading to Mountain Lion. The screen no longer blanks either, screensaver just runs until I move the mouse etc. all was fine under Lion, tried various things, stopping program's etc to no avail. I can force sleep manually just not happening when set to in energy saver settings. Machine is a mid 2010 mac pro, would of thought it shouldn't of have any issues running ML! Odd how the screen power down isn't working either. I'm out of ideas, must be a bug of some sort.

Problem turned out to be a sidewinder USB joystick. Once unplug sleep resumed as scheduled.

  • Update to Mountain Lion Server kills Time Machine Backups

    Okay, here's the scenario:
    Client:
    MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion
    Server:
Mac Mini running Mountain Lion Server using an SSD boot and Promise Pegasus Thunderbolt RAID
Prior to updating the Mac Mini to Mountain Lion Server (previously just using regular Mountain Lion) I was happily backing up using Time Machine over AFP.  Since the update to Server I get the Time Machine message:
"The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."
The network drive is also no longer available for selection within Time Machine (once it's been deselected).
Any easy ideas on a fix?

  • Mountain Lion and memory problems

I have a Macbook Air (1.8 GHz i7, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB SSD) and just installed Mountain Lion. Previous OS was Lion, final version. And suddenly my computer is bogging down and I get messages that say "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory." I get these messages and my computer hangs--this has happened several times today and I've had to force restart.
It is not because I have too little hard disk space available, because 165 GB of my 250 GB hard drive is free. And it is not because I am running too many apps--I even got this message once with the only open app being Activity Monitor.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Disabling Java and Javascript
    2. Repairing disk permissions
    3. Verifying the disk (using Disk Utility)
    4. Restarting
    5. Running Omni Disk Sweeper (which confirms that most of my hard disk is free)
I have not turned off Spotlight or Backblaze.
The processes that keep spiking between 400 MB and 1 GB of memory (per Activity Monitor) are kernel_task, mds, and bztransmit (the last might be from Backblaze, but I've even had these messages when this process was using almost no memory).
Right now I've been able to use Safari long enough to file this question to Apple Support Communities, but I have only 8.7 MB of free RAM (per Activity Monitor), which makes no sense given the 4 GB RAM in my Mac and the fact that I'm running only Activity Monitor and only one window in Safari.
    Suggestions appreciated!

My problem is slightly different than you guys' - in my case, if I leave my MacBook Pro (summer 2012, 8GB RAM, 750GB hd, with 412GB available) up and running for more than 2-3 few days it gradually crawls to a halt, with many GB of page outs, no free memory, and bztransmit using massive amounts of virtual memory. It doesn't seem to matter how much content is being backed up either - at the time I took this screenshot, Backblaze was fully backed up, and had been for a few days. I never get the "out of memory" error that you guys are seeing, though - the machine just becomes highly unresponsive (talking like 30+ seconds to open a tab in Safari, or switch between apps - that sort of thing).
I am using Exchange calendars too, to so I'm wondering if my issue could be related to that after all.
