Mounting Sensor on Shoe: One concern:

Hello,
I did mount the sensor on the lace of my NB-Shoe with velcro. It worked quite nice.
My concern: Now the wether is nice: sunny and dry. But in autumn and winter it get's quite cold/rainy/snow/muddy around here (Berlin, Germany).
Is the strong enough to withstand rain/mud and running through puddles?
The case seems to be sealed. What you think?
The Apple-FAQ dosn't say anything about that subject.
Cheers,
Georg
- keep on running -

The manual says not use the sensor where it can get wet, so you will need to find some way to keep it dry.
I keep mine in a small zip-lock bag and tucked under my shoe laces. The bag is stuck to the tongue of shoe with a double sided tape, but the laces actually keep the senor firmly in place. It stay dry & out of the dust/dirt. Others have used the a little key pouch that runners often use on their shoes. If you look through the threads on the forum, you will even see that some people have posted pictures of how they are keeping their sensor dry & safe.

  • Mount raw devices from one plarform to another?

    Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to mount raw devices from one platform on Tru Filesystem to another platform on HP-UX running ASM? I am asking that to know if we can save precious time avoiding copying the datafiles from our Tru64 server to our HP-UX server. If this can be made, the "only" work we would have to do is transporting tablespaces via Transportable Tablespace.
    Thanks for your attention.

When I do File>Import the only two options I've are "Files" and "Show iPhoto Browser".
    Hello Pedro,
what is your Aperture version on the iMac? The File menu should look like this in the current version 3.2.2. Do you only see two items, or are some options greyed out?
unfortunately I had erased all the files from the pendrive
Why? Not much space on the pendrive? erasing images is no good idea, if you are searching for missing master image files - next time you have any kind of trouble with unconnected masters, keep all existing copies of your images, until you have reconnected the versions safely and are dead sure where the original masters are stored. If you accidentally moved the masters, you may be erasing the only copy you still have.
Thus said, what is on on your pendrive right now? Do you still have the exported library there? If so, you may try the following:
I think you may have a permissions problem or formatting problem with the pendrive.
Is pendrive formatted MacOS X extended? If not, then reformat it (with DiskUtility) to MacOS X extended, if you want to use to to transfer images between Aperture Libraries. Pendrives usually come preformatted for Windows users, and Aperture does not recognize all formats, i.e. MS Dos (FAT) is not supported by Aperture. Reformatting will erase the drive, however.
Set the permissions on the drive to "ignore ownership on that volume": Select the pen drive in the Finder and then press (command)⌘-I to open the Get Info panel. At the bottom of the panel you should see a checkbox "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" (if your drive is MacOS extended). Set this flag.
Also check the permissions of the Aperture Library on this drive - you shoud have read-write permissions, and the perpissions of any enlosing folder.

  • Is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

I have around 64 analog sensors to connect to PXI4472. Instead of buying 8 PXI4472, is it possible to multiplexe 8 analog sensors output into one PXI4472 channel?? can PXI4472 recognize those signals??

Such a set up is not recommended. Some of the drawbacks are:
Depending on how you plan to multiplex the signals together (SCXI/PXI switch, 3rd party mux), you could very easily be introducing noise to your system.
Multiplexing the signals together into one line limits your sampling rate to the switching speed of you multiplexer device.
You will probably need to spend more time developing handshaking schemes in order for switching and acquisition to occur in such a way that you don't miss signals that you want to acquire.
These are only some of the drawbacks to this setup. All in all, the only functionality of the 4472 board that you would be left with is it's ability to sample all eight channels at the same time. So, you could multi
plex all the signals together, but doing so is not recommended.
However, I have a couple of questions. Do you want to sample all 64 sensors at the same time? Assuming that you are not, how are you planning on multiplexing the signals together? What kind of a chassis are you working with? Please let me know.

  • Measuring the one sensor above and one sensor below

    Hi
Cn somebody help me in measuring one sensor above and one sensor below and if thy are almost equal must stop.
I tried doing so, but i dont knw whr it is going wrong. I hv attached the program with this query.
In a large cryogenic storage system,  we need to find the level of cryogenic fluids. For ths we a immersed PCB consisting of multiplexers and sensors into the storage system. We need to find the level by passing current to the PCB & measuring voltage at each sensor. We can conform the liquid level by measuring one sensor above and one sensor below the actual level.
    Thanks in Advance.

You should submit a little more detail as to what is going wrong.  Also, what do V1 through V6 represent?  They seem to be read from the same analog input channel.  You should try passing those value through with wires rather than using local variables.  If so, you could eliminate a large number of your sequence frames.
In the 4th frame of your sequence structure, you could have a race condition.  You are reading V4 as a local variable around the same time you are assigning a value to V4 through the DaqMX read.  You don't know whether it is using the latest V4 value or the one from the previous iteration.
I would also recommend not using the STOP sign VI.  If you have a case where the program should end, you should wire the boolean out of the case structures and to the condition node of the while loop.  It will allow the code to end much more cleanly.  In your situation, the DaxMX close will never execute because the only way the program ends is through the STOP sign which is the equivalent of hitting the ABORT button.

  • Hard drive won't mount - but only on one Macbook Pro

    Hi guys
So I have a brand new Macbook Pro 2.4 with retina and 8gb (like 2 days old). I'm on Mavericks. This question also concerns a Lacie Rugged USB3 1TB drive, it is bus power only.
My lacie won't mount on my new mac. An identical lacie will, as will a few older other lacie drives I use for archiving and occassional long term backups. I've checked this unmountable drive on 8 different macs (friends, work, mothers) everything from other imacs, to old G5 power pcs, and even my mums ancient ibook g4. They'll all mount it. My macbook pro wont.
    * It's nothing to do with ports (all ports work and power various devices) and cables (different cables also do not work, and they work with other drives).
    * It does not appear in disk utility
    * It does not appear in the system profiler/report even though the ports show up no trouble
    * the drive powers and spins up
    * i've even just formatted the drive on another computer in extended journal and it still does not appear yet will still mount on another machine
I'm tearing my hair out. Help me! Does anyone have any idea's what the **** is up with this thing?
    Thanks

  • IPod can't find the sensor in shoes

Right, the iPod keep searching for the sensor in the shoes, saying "Walk around so the iPod can.." something something. However, I've been walking around for 5 minutes like 3-4 times now and nothing's happening.
I've re-installed Itunes and updated it to the newest version (8.1.1) and it claims the iPod also is updated to the newest version as well (1.1.3).
I cannot figure out what's causing the sensor not to be found.
Appreciate all the help I can get.
    Cheers, and thanks in advance,
    Jocke.

I think your sensor has no battery. I have had the same problem few months ago an when I went to the official shop in my citty they got the sensor up with a new battery in the gap of two weeks. So that if your sensor has no battery anf has less than 3.000 Km (that the expects of the trade mark about timelife)they may change by their own costs.
    Good luck

  • How do I mount a disk in one Macbook from another Macbook in order to fix?

I have a Macbook with Startup disk problems so I want to use DiskWarrior to fix it. I've downloaded DiskWarrior, but the download version doesn't allow me to create a bootable disc to boot from. I'll have to wait for the DVD they are shipping to me for a bootable version. But I need to fix my Macbook asap.
So I'd like to use my other Macbook to mount the startup disk on the Macbook that's having problems and run DiskWarrior on that disc.
Can this be done? If so, how?
    Much thanks!

    Hi Jim,
You can do a Target Disk Mode using a FireWire cable. In the case of double MacBooks, you'd want to use a FireWire 400-to-FireWire 400 (6pin-to-6pin) cable. You can mount the MacBook in question and then tell DiskWarrior to scan that HD.

  • Nike + wireless sensor and shoe sensor

does anyone know how long the battery on the sensor lasts for and when it does run out can you place it or do you have to spend £19.99 for a new Nike + pack.
whats the best way to maintain the battery on the sensor as well as it doesnt say on the booklet or online.
    thanks runners

The battery is rated to last about 1,000 hours when the kit is in use. (Most of the time, the kit will be idle, at which time the drain on the battery is negligible.)
If there will be long periods between your runs (several days or weeks), you can put the sensor to sleep. To do that, following the instructions here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303934#faq10
The battery is not replaceable, so you'll have to buy a new kit when the current sensor's battery finally dies. But presume you run an hour a day, every day. The means you will get about 2 and half years out of the battery before it dies. At £19.99, the cost to you is only about £0.019 per day! Not a bad little investment!

  • One concern for replicated cache

For replicated caches, I think changes are replicated asynchronously, then how to understand update operations will achieve "bad" performance when many nodes exist?Could you kindly pls. explain expenses costed for that? Thanks!

    Hi Robert,
That listens reasonable, unicast and multi-cast messages are sent out without having to wait for responses and multi-cast reduces the network's stream size at the same time.
Then my concern is still that, for replication cache, any changes are sent as messages to other nodes in asyn mode(needn't wait for the response either unicast and muli-cast), so the cost are mainly caused by sending of changes ,which is decided by network status,if the network is high enough and since the messages are sent in asyn way, the performance will be affected finitely, right?
    thanks,
    MichaelMichael,
it may not have been clear, but what Aleks said is still true. The interleaving means that messages are sent out to recipient nodes interleaved without waiting for a response before sending to the next node, but the cache.put() call returns after the the positive response from all cache nodes arrived that the update was incorporated into their own copy of the data (or the death of the recipient node was detected in which case the response will not be waited for).
So the overall cost on the network is both sends and responses, and since in general responses go to a single node (the sender of the message the response replies to) therefore even for a multicast update there will be several unicast responses.
But yes, the higher number of cluster nodes there are, the larger load this puts on the network.
There are several measures in Coherence for trying to decrease this effect on the network, e.g. bundling together messages or ACKs to the same destination which allows them to be sent in less packets than if they were sent alone (this is particularly effective in case of small messages and ACKs), but this is really effective when there are many threads on each node each doing cache operations as this increases the likelihood of multiple messages/ACKs to be sent to the same node roughly at the same time.
But in general, if you have frequent writes to a replicated cache you can't really scale it after a point (a certain number of cluster nodes) due to saturating the network, and you should consider switching to partitioned caches (distributed cache). Even near and continuous query caches are not really effective in case of write-heavy caches (more writes than reads).
Even if the network is able to keep up, more messages would still increase the length of the queues of messages in a node to respond to and therefore more messages would probably mean longer response times.
    Best regards,
    Robert

Cannot suscribe to iCloud.. Will Apple fix it?

Samething happening to me also.  I bought my wife the new iPhone, I initially used my icloud account to set hers up, then created her own apple ID and tried to change it on her phone and said the samething.  I love or should I say we love the iPhone, so hopefully Apple will get it fixed.

  • Maxtor One Touch II USB/firewire Ext HD  won't mount

The drive shows up on the bus, but does not mount, and also does not show up with Disk Utility. I've taken it to the Apple Genius Bar and they couldn't find the problem, and said they only had 15 minutes to dedicate to me anyway. The drive didn't show on their MBP either. I've had this connected to my G4 for the past year, with no problem, and it still functions just fine there.
As another note, my Canon G6 Powershot, which has previously mounted on this machine (The MBP) via USB, no longer does. I can download photos directly into Iphoto, but the drive never mounts to the desktop.
I've tried both the USB and Firewire options with my external, with the same results. I need to download my photos from the MBP to the external, as it's getting pretty full. I noticed in another forum that FWT mode was not working with non-Intel macs prior to 10.3.9. but it's still not working between my G4 and the MBP.
I know there are several issues here, but was hoping someone could help me sort them out if I dump the whole scenario.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.83GB w/ 1GB DDR2 SDRAM

I have a one touch II that I purchased to use to backup and store files for my mbp.
Mine mounted correctly, but the one touch button did not work. After trying to fix it myself, I called the Maxtor tech support, and they said that they don't support using their drives or their software with intel based macs. Of course they only told me that after spending a long time on the phone.
So the only advice I can give to you is to not try Maxtor's tech support; it will be a waste of time.
Or perhaps your USB ports are broken and need to be replaced on your mbp.

  • Problems mounting Hitachi 7k3000 HDD in Voyager Q dock via eSATA

I have two NewerTech Voyager Q- Quad Interface SATA 2.5" & 3.5" Drive Docks http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/FWU3ES2HDK/ from OWC.com that are advertised as compatible with 3TB SATA III Hitachi drives. I am using one as a main data drive, and the other as a Carbon Copy Cloner back-up. Today I had both of them running off my Sonnet Tempo SATA Pro Expresscard 34 on my MacBook Pro, doing a CCC back up sync. I went out and when I came back the cloning had frozen. I couldn't quit anything or eject anything, and several other apps became unresponsive so I had to do a hard shutdown. Upon reboot, Disk Utility wouldn't mount either of the drives, and they both failed verify/repair and also a rebuild in Disk Genius. So I tried plugging them in via FW800, only one of the drives mounted (the closest on the daisy-chain) and Disk Utility said it appeared to be OK. The 2nd drive wouldn't mount. I am quite concerned about this as I have a lot of data on there that I cannot afford to lose. Has anyone had any experience using the Hitachi 3TB drives in external eSATA or FW800 docks or enclosures? Any opinions on the Voyager Q docks?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
You've done some good, thorough troubleshooting.
First blush I'm thinking the hard drive isn't working, until you start it via firewire from another volume, and you see flakey results, and can't complete a boot from DVD. That would support a failing logic board.
The Apple store can send your Powerbook to the Apple Depot for repair. We recently did this, system was sent to the Apple Depot in Houston, and cost was around $325. At the Depot, they repair everything, returning it in operating order. In our case they replaced the logic board and battery. If the case is banged up or extensive replacements are required, the charge goes up from $325. Comes back with a 90 day warranty.
If you're good with computer internals, you can buy a used logic board and replace it yourself. Good instructions at http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/PowerBook-G4-Aluminum-12-Inch-1-1-5-GHz-Logic -Board/553/1

  • Is it possible to turn off the infrared emitter without closing the sensor

    Hi,
The Kinect v1 SDK had a function ForceInfraredEmitterOff(), which could be called to turn off the infrared emitter without having to close the Kinect. This was very useful for applications using multiple Kinects as it provided an easy way of preventing interference.
I am using 3 kinects with overlapping field of views to create a large field of view for a project and I would like to be able to control the infrared emitter like I did with the v1.
I looked in the SDK documentation and on the web, but found no method that could do what I want. So, did I miss something ?
    Thanks.

That is exactly what it means: to have a system using two Kinects you will need two computers with two Windows 8 licenses (one each), one communication path between these computers (TCP/IP seems like an obvious choice) and some way to make sure they don't
    interfere each other...
As far as Carmine answer goes, it is not satisfactory: OK, I understand that my Kinect is shared by all the applications running on my computer .... MY computer, meaning that I know which applications need the sensor and which ones don't (unless some unknown
background program is spying on me.... wouldn't want to shut off the IR to prevent that program from working now...)
So, why not give programmers a way to shut off the IR and if someone runs many programs on the same computer and does not want to shut off the IR then they just don't call that function ... this way everyone is happy.
SO, in the end here is the solution my company decided to implement: we used to put 3 kinects on each of our system to have a very wide field of view. This year we plan on selling about 75 of these systems, that would have meant buying 225 Kinects. Now,
since we can't turn off the IR (a functionality that would take any programmer about 10 minutes to implement by the way), we will buy only 75 Kinects (one per system) and mount them on a linear axis. It is acutally going to cost less money to buy one linear
axis and move the camera instead of buying 3 cameras with 3 computers with 3 windows licenses and developping some sort of anti-interference solution.

  • New Nike+ sensor detection problem

Bought my first Nike+ yesterday, did succeed to link the sensor. Did go for a walk to test it, didn’t get any contact. Of and on with the shoe tapping pressing the button and at last contact when holding the sensor in my hand moving it around, put it in the shoe start walking and it looked good but then it after a while the voice asked if I wanted to resume the training, did that a couple of times. Then I stopped the "training" and it had registered 10 meter.
Didn’t succeed to get more contact with the sensor.
Did go to the store today and got it replaced with a new kit. Tested it right away by plug in the receiver and move around the package with the sensor, linked the sensor and got one training activated. Then when home I got problem to connect the sensor, tried several times walking around then tapped and move around the sensor in my hand and got contact, even succeed to get contact with the sensor in the shoe.
I have a old Nano ver 1, the Nano battery is not new but it still hold for several hours music.
My suspicion is that it is old Nike+ kits, didn’t seems to be a big seller in the sports shop where I bought it. I'll guess these battery’s age and get weaker if they have been on the shelf in the store for a year or so.
As I understand it the low battery indicator is based on usage/training time, so if the battery is poor when you buy the sensor there will be no indication before it dies.
It had helped if one could get the date when the sensor was produced by the serial number.
I must say I’m disappointed so far to have to spend all this time trying to make it work.
And BTW why is the excellent stopwatch function with laps separated from the Nike+ thing, as I get it there is no lap function with Nike+.
Going out for a run now to see if it still works, knock on wood.

Well after some disconnecting and connecting of the receiver did I manage to get some action from the sensor, but then it died after 940 meter.
Nike+ have had it’s chance with me I give up and make a run for a refund.

  • Time Machine backup volume will not mount

Once I goy Time Machine up and running over almost two years ago, I have had little cause for concern. A few lengthy backups here and there but I have been able to restore without any problems whatsoever. It has been extremely useful many times.
A couple of days ago, I noticed that the backup volume was not mounted (I backup to one of my four internal drives) and launched Time Machine. I got the error:
The storage location for Time Machine backups can't be found.
When I run Disk Utility the generic disk icon is in the left hand pane but not the volume. None of the tasks are available except Erase and Partition - there is no option to Verify Disk, Repair Disk, Verify Disk Permissions or Repair Disk Permissions.
According to my logs, the last backup at 18:12 on 20th November was successful. I didn't notice that the volume had not mounted the until the next day.
I'm very concerned that I have lost almost two years of data security. Is there any way I can repair the disk or recover the backups?
    Thanks.

If Disk Utility can't see any partitions, it's not good.
    First, turn TM off.
Then try ejecting, disconnecting and powering the drive off for a few minutes, then reattaching it. Then try again with Disk Utility. If still no help, the drive is likely dead.
There's a very small chance that +Disk Warrior+ (version 4.1.1 or 4.2 only), or another heavy-duty disk repair app can fix it, if you already have one. But I wouldn't suggest spending the $$ for one unless you think you'll need it in the future -- DW is about $100.
Most likely, your disk is dead. There's a small chance that a +Data Recovery+ app such as +Data Rescue+ can recover some of the data. Check via Google, VersionTracker.com, or MacUpdate.com for +Data Recovery.+ There are services and apps, none cheap. Some of the apps have a free demo or test mode that will tell you if there's anything that can be recovered, and perhaps actually recover a single file; then you pay for it and recover whatever else can be recovered. You'll need another external disk to receive the recovered items.
You won't get the normal Time Machine folder structure, though, just "raw" files. Even if you do recover files, you'll most likely have to figure out what goes where and copy them to the right places manually.
So I'd suggest immediately getting a new drive and doing a new TM backup to it, so you have something. Put a second partition on it that you can use for the recovered files if and when you do that.
If those are your only backups, I'd recommend getting a second external, perhaps a portable one, and using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper to make a full "bootable clone" to it, then take it to your safe deposit box, workplace, relative's house, or other secure location. And/or, you might want to look at Mozy, Carbonite, or other online backup services.
