Mouse Cursor Changing and Layered Panes

In our program when you click on some buttons it should change the mouse cursor to a different thing depending on what button was pushed (zoom in, zoom out, etc...) However, in certain applications in our program when we are utilizing layered panes, the mouse cursor fails to change. Is there any particular reason for this? Thanks

Here's some of the code that changes the mouse cursor:
currentAction = e.getActionCommand();
                Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
                ImageIcon icon = (ImageIcon)datatable.get(currentAction);
                if (icon != null)
                    setCursor( tk.createCustomCursor( icon.getImage(), new Point(0,0), currentAction)); Here's the code that sets up the layered pane:
  public void buildFramePanel(JInternalFrame owner, JComponent bg, JComponent fg){
    if (bg != null && fg != null){
      if(bg==fg){
        frame.setContentPane(bg); //lo layer
      } else{
        frame.setContentPane(bg); //lo layer
        fg.setBounds(0, 0, fg.getWidth(), fg.getHeight());
        fg.setOpaque(false);
        fg.setVisible(true);
        fg.repaint();
        frame.getLayeredPane().add(fg, JLayeredPane.PALETTE_LAYER);//hi layer
  }Is there anything going on here that would make these uncompatible? I can't really post any more code than that cause our prog is ridiculously huge.

  • Mouse cursor dissapears in The Pan|Zoom component

    When using the Pan|Zoom component found at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/fig_panzoom/ inside a mx:Window in my AIR application, the custom mouse cursors (draghandOpen, draghandClosed) are not shown. The mouse cursor just dissapears when rolling over the ImageViewer.
    From the Pan|Zoom code:

  • 27" iMac Mouse Cursor Artifact and Pixelated Screen

    My mother's 27" 2011 iMac decided to die the other day.  Boot up sequence seems fine but then the display is some odd pixel patterns that blink and not much more.  I immediately assumed it was the graphics card but then upon booting up in Safe mode, the screen looks perfect.  The only sign that something is up is this odd 'artifact' attached to the mouse cursor.
    I've finally given up and I made a bootable USB stick with Yosemite, figuring a fresh start will help.  Still, when booting up the Yosemite installer, I still see this odd mouse cursor artifact.
    Any insights into this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for coming back, Lauren.
    But there are many things mentioned in that link that are not connected with settings.   The surface of your desk, mouse pad; try some alternatives.  Then there is cleaning the sensor (use a cotton bud moistened (not wet) with an alcohol based cleaner or at a pinch, a rolled up wipe for spectacles.
    Then there is signal interference.   Have you changed the position of something recently.   This is part of another Apple guide note.
    Check for signal interference
    Because Bluetooth works by transmitting signals through the air, some things can interfere with the wireless connection. Avoid situations in which metal objects come between the device and the computer. Don't put the computer under a metal desk or locked away behind a metal cabinet. Keep cordless phone base stations, microwave ovens, and other electrical devices that operate on a 2.4 GHz bandwidth away, and make sure that the wireless device and computer aren't more than 30 feet apart from each other.

  • [SOLVED]Mouse cursor changes between applications

    Hi, everyone this thing is driving me crazy. I'm still searching for some good solution for this.
    When i move the mouse cursor over a kde or java application (using gnome) the cursor changes to the system default, that black ugly thing. I know there is a way to do it by changing the default cursor theme, but when i do it kde and java applications don't launch. Someone please explain this on easy words, or some other solution please!

  • Mouse cursor jittery and broken after latest OS X update

    I just updated my iMac (27", latest model, running Mountain Lion) with the most recent Software Update, and I'm now having big problems with my mouse.
    The mouse cursor jitters wildly any time I move the mouse, jumping several centimetres back and forth (above-left and below-right; it doesn't seem to flicker randomly, just between those three positions. It flickers rapidly between the arrow cursor and the text selection cursor. When I stop moving the mouse, I will often get the wrong cursor (such as an arrow, or a text selection cursor on its side) instead of the correct text selection cursor. I've been stuck with the sideways text selection cursor for the entirety of this post, for instance.
    This also happens in Photoshop when I'm working on images; the cursor will flicker between the arrow and whichever Photoshop tool I'm trying to use, and it will jitter wildly back and forwards. As you can imagine, this makes Photoshop unusable, which is a major problem for me.
    It doesn't happen when I'm using stuff like the menus, or Control Panel, or the Safari bookmarks bar.
    This happens whether I'm using a Magic Mouse via Bluetooth or a USB mouse, so it's not the mouse itself that's the problem.
    I'm using the mouse on the same surface as I previously was with no problems (a wooden desktop with a matte finish), but the same thing happens when I try the mouse on other surfaces such as paper or a mousepad, so it's not the surface that's the problem.
    Please help! This makes my Mac virtually unusable, at least for all the tasks I need to use it for. Any suggestions?

    Hi EleanorJLH,
    You may want to test to see if the issue persists in a new test user to help isolate the possible causes. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Why is my mouse/cursor eratic and scrolling is jumpy. It is my first firefox install (v12), no plugins, cache empty. XP machine, SP3, Trend micro security

    This unusable. Mouse pauses, then jumps. Difficult to even fill out this form and click "buttons". Scrolling jerky, but I tend to think it's only tracking the mouse irregularity. Keyboard characters in text box seem slightly delayed.
    Temporarily disabled Trend Micro, but this had no effect.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    *Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

  • My mouse cursor disappears and does not come back when the mouse is moved.

    Ocassionally my cursor disappears, usually when the display has gone to sleep.  The mouse is still working because I can "mouse over" places on the screen, they are highlighted, and click on items, but there is no cursor.  Fortunately, I can usually find the Apple menu and restart, but having to reboot is annoying. This did not happen before I upgraded to Lion (10.7.1).  I am usually connected to an external display when this happens.

    I found this in the community.  Same problem Mouse pointer disappears on second monitor.

  • Change Mouse Cursor Inside JTextPane

    Hello Everyone,
    I am trying to change the mouse cursor of a specific text of a JTextPane to:
    setCursor(Cursor.getPredefinedCursor(Cursor.HAND_CURSOR));This specific text is a hyperlink which its color is blue and it is underlined, so I want to have the mouse cursor changed to make clearer that you can click on it.
    I thought about trying to track the mouse position inside the JTextPane until it reachs the text position but I am not aware of any class that provides this feature. Does anyone know or have another ideia?
    Any help is appreciated,
    Thanks in advance

    This specific text is a hyperlink which its color is blue and it is underlined, so I want to have the mouse cursor changed to make clearer that you can click on it.That's the default behavior (in the default Metal LaF, at least) when you setEditable(false). And IMO it doesn't make much sense to change the cursor or allow hyperlink navigation when the text pane is editable.

  • Change mouse cursor over graph cursor.

    Is there a way to change the mouse cursor as it moves over graph cursors when using trackmode TrackDragCursor? To indicate that you can position the cursor.

    You could accomplish this with the graph's CursorMouseMove event. For example, create a new project with the NI Measurement Studio AppWizard and follow these steps:
    Add a graph to the dialog. Right-click on the graph in the dialog editor, click "Class Wizard ...", click the Member Variables tab and add a member variable for the graph called m_graph. Click OK.
    Right-click on the graph in the dialog editor and click on "Events ...". Add an event handler for CursorMouseMove called OnCursorMouseMove and add an event handler for PlotAreaMouseMove called OnPlotAreaMouseMove. Click OK.
    Go to the header file for your dialog class and add this to the bottom of the class declaration:
    private:
    bool m_cursorChanged;
    HCURSOR m_defaultCursor;
    HCURSOR m_crossCursor;
    Go to the source file for your dialog class and add this to the end of the
    OnInitDialog method:
    m_graph.TrackMode = CNiGraph::TrackAllEvents;
    m_graph.Cursors.Add();
    m_cursorChanged = false;
    m_defaultCursor = ::LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW);
    m_crossCursor = ::LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_CROSS);
    Add this to your CursorMouseMove event hander:
    if (!m_cursorChanged)
    :etCursor(m_crossCursor);
    m_cursorChanged = false;
    Add this to your PlotAreaMouseMove event handler:
    if (m_cursorChanged)
    :etCursor(m_defaultCursor);
    m_cursorChanged = true;
    Run the application. You should see that the mouse cursor changes to a cross when you mouse over the cursor.
    Hope this helps.

  • Change mouse cursor to pointer

    Hello!
    I have an Image control that I use to perform an action on
    click.
    How can I make the mouse cursor change to pointer on
    mouseOver and back to default on mouseOut, please?
    Thank you!

    Assuming you're talking about the hand-pointer cursor, you
    need to set three properties (useHandCursor, mouseChildren and
    buttonMode), as the attached example shows.
    If you want to use a cursor besides the default pointer,
    hand-pointer or busy cursor, then you need to dig further into
    using the CursorManager. It's a little bit of extra work but it's
    not too bad;
    null
    see
    the LiveDocs entry on setting and removing cursors
    Hope that answers your question.

  • Xorg: blank screen, mouse cursor only - ATI Radeon HD3450

    Last friday, my old Nvidia card died (overheated, I think). I got a replacement today: an ATI HD3450 card by Asus (R600 series). This is an old PC with an AGP slot, so my options were unfortunately limited. I was looking for a Nvidia replacement originally, to avoid having to reconfigure stuff, but that turned out to be too hard. So I got an ATI card instead. I regret this decision now... it works fine in console mode, but I can't get it to work in X.
    I've tried radeon and radeonhd drivers. I'm reluctant to try catalyst, seeing as they do not support the current kernel version (2.6.32) and I don't want to downgrade.
    radeonhd (xf86-video-radeonhd) is just a disaster. When I try to start X, all I see is a screen which is mostly black, except for a garbled band of about 1/4th the screen height, mostly white with some random colours thrown in.
    radeon (xf86-video-ati) doesn't work either. When X starts, all I see is the mouse cursor. And nothing else. Just a black screen with a mouse cursor. The funny thing is, it's all there, I just can't see it. When I tried "startxfce4", the cursor would change shapes when it was over window edges or text boxes. But they were invisible. Too bad.
    When I run "startx" as root, I see a couple of twm windows (the default configuration, I normally don't use X as root), and I can interact with them, but it's as if the screen isn't refreshed properly. When I move a window, it isn't redrawn, but it was definitely moved, because when I enter text in it, the text appears at the new position. The 'vesa' driver works, but I can't use that for obvious reasons.
    I have read the wiki article about ATI drivers and tried some of the things mentioned there (no xorg.conf, simple xorg.conf with some combinations of the sections mentioned, ...). I'm pretty sure the problem isn't KMS-related, because it's disabled by default with the 2.6.32 kernel.
    What pisses me off the most is that I get no error messages whatsoever, so I haven't a clue what could be the problem. I'm working on getting some Xorg.0.log output in this thread ASAP.
    Anybody have any idea what could cause this? I would really like to get this working soon. It would kinda suck if it turns out I've replaced an unusable graphics card with another unusable graphics card.
    If the radeonhd problem is easier to solve, then solutions for that are welcome as well. I just need a working driver that can handle compiz, and doesn't require me to downgrade my kernel.
    EDIT: Xorg.0.log contents, enjoy!

    Another update: the card seems to work just fine under windows, so it is definitely a configuration or driver issue.

    "Enabling KMS will make Xorg fall back to software rasterizing, at the cost of 3D performance. " <- is this still true at the moment? In that case, enabling KMS really isn't the solution I'm looking for. Back to square one
    This is not true.  Software rasterization indicates that KMS was not set up correctly.  You will get 3D acceleration with KMS correctly configured.
    Thanks for taking the time to reply
    I'll give enabling KMS a try. What thread is it that you're talking about? Also should I follow the "early start" or "late start" instructions?
    EDIT: I'm guessing you mean this one? http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=613720
    That thread is the one I meant.
    Your xf86-video-ati doesn't have support for KMS - you have to rebuild it against libdrm_radeon. This also means that you have to rebuild mesa against same new libdrm because mesa doesn't have KMS support without libdrm_radeon either.
    Is this information applicable to my situation? No instructions on how to do this are provided, so I have no idea how to try it, or if it's worth trying at all.
    Yes, this is a problem.  You have to modify a PKGBUILD or two and build/install the packages in the correct order.  I detail the right way to do everything below.
    I used the following packages:
    * kernel26-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25304 (you must configure with CONFIG_DRM_RADEON=m. CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS=y enables KMS by default.  you should be presented with a configuration menu when the package builds.  type '/' to search.)
    * kernel26-firmware-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=25782
    * radeon_ucode: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33016
    * libdrm-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=10254 (you must edit the PKGBUILD to enable radeon support, see below)
    * glproto-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18964
    * dri2proto-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19051
    * libgl-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19044 (this is out of date and requires a patch.  see my comment on the AUR page)
    * mesa-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=8266 (you can reuse src/mesa from libgl-git, it clones the same repository)
    * xf86-video-ati-git: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15374 (you can reuse src/mesa from libgl-git)
    libdrm-git PKGBUILD:
    sh autogen.sh --prefix=/usr \
    --enable-nouveau-experimental-api \
    --enable-udev || return 1
    # --enable-radeon-experimental-api
    libdrm-git PKGBUILD modified:
    sh autogen.sh --prefix=/usr \
    --enable-radeon-experimental-api \
    --enable-udev || return 1
    Install those packages in that order and add yourself to the video group.  Make sure that your grub configuration has an option to select the new kernel.  Also make sure all of your PKGBUILDs from AUR are up to date.  A week or two ago they were all wrong (as a noted above, one of them is still wrong and requires a patch).
    I hope that helps.  Eventually Arch will support KMS for radeon by default, but the driver and the kernel need to go through another release or two.

  • [Gnome] Cursor changes when it overrides qt applications

    I use gnome desktop on Archlinux x86_64.
    I noticed that sometimes when I pass my mouse over qt applications (like skype, smplayer, qtiplot,...) the cursor changes and it becomes the gnome default cursor. When I move my cursor over the desktop it returns what I have chosen.
    I tried changing to other cursors but the result doesn't change.

    maybe edit:
    /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
    have it read:
    [Icon Theme]
    Inherits=ATER-yellow
    Same to local icons as well:
    ~/.icons/defaults/index.theme
    I think what is happening is that the system reverts to default and doesn't know what the default is... if you specify maybe it will work.

  • Mouse cursor problem (dock magnification, highlight issue)

    My logitech wired USB mouse has an issue with my iMac.  It worked for a couple weeks.  After then, whenever it is plugged in, it does not magnify the dock, nor highlight things correctly (cursor does not turn into hand over links, does not open nor highligh menus unless clicked, etc).
    After searching, this problem has dated back years and across OS X versions, usually having to do with a wireless or wired Logitech mouse (which mine is).  The first thing people suggest is restarting/killing dock, re-install OS, repair permissions, among other things.  This rarely fixes the issue.  The solution that seems to fix it for most people is to simply unplug the mouse and plug it back in.  Most people state this fixes it until it happens again a week later and either they do the unplug-plug again or just give up and switch to another mouse.
    I have tried re-plugging it back in but it doesn't solve the issue.  Other mice work just fine which I've have gone to, but I really want to use that mouse (plus, I hate giving up!)
    Can anyone help me?  I'd appreciate it!  Thank you!
    EDIT: Here are some more clues to the puzzle:
    - The mouse works fine on multiple other computers
    - Other people have described this problem as the iMac no longer knows where the mouse cursor is until a mouse-click is pressed.  That is why it doesn't open menus, magnify the dock, change into a hand when hovering over a link, etc.  To open and select a menu at the top of the screen, for example, the left mouse button must be clicked and held, then let go of when you want to choose something.

    zmbmartin wrote:I have a problem with webkit based browser and was wondering if someone else had the same problem and/or had some ideas on how to fix it. In webkit browsers my mouse/cursor does not respond to state changes. So when I hover over a link the mouse/cursor does not change to a hand or when I hover over a text box it doesn't change to the text cursor. It is really annoying. If I do click on a link after I click the cursor turns into a hand and then stays that way no matter what I hover over.
    Just a remark:
    I'm also facing a similar problem running chromium on 32-bit arch with KDE. When I move the mouse cursor over the edges/corners of the browser the mouse cursor changes state (so a s to show arrows used for changing windows size) but uses the default X11 theme instead of my KDE mouse cursor theme....
    Also I'm using gtk-kde4 for gtk apps in KDE.

  • 27 Cinema Display flickers on cursor change

    Hello,
    I've recently purchased a 27" Cinema Display and hooked it up to my mid 2010 13" MBP. Everything works fine except for one really annoying thing: The Cinema Display flickers when the mouse cursor changes. I've done a thorough search through the community threads and haven't found anybody who's experiencing the same problem. Could anyone please tell me if they've run into this issue, and if so if there's any way of fixing it.
    Thanks!

    Might be related to the thread below.
    To give you a quick summary, try either of the following:
    - use your macbook's charger rather than the cinema display magsafe connector
    - increase the brightness to 7 bars or more
    - simply unplug the magsafe used by the cinema display
