Move CM Node to Database node from Application Tier

Hi,
I have setup like this...my set up is 2 node...one node is Database node and another is Application Node.
Now I want to move Concurrent Manager Node from Application Node to Database Node..
I Can do this using RAPIDCLONE.....
What My Doubt is to move the CM Node...
Do I have to copy APPL_TOP , COMMON_TOP and ORA_TOPs or only APPL_TOP to database node

If I have to apply any patch...Only we need to apply it on Primary node..once we apply it..it is automatically appearing the node 2....because it is shared file system....Only use is....For CM Running purposes..Database Node Resources(CPU and RAM) will be used......right.....
We no need to touch the Shared File System in the Database Node 2 in this scenario....right....
Please confirm it...

My requirement is to submit a concurrent after completion sending a mail to user with the attachment of the same concurrent output. I am using UTL_SMTP package for sending emails, Now problem is that when ever It tries to attach the file it reads it from Database tier, I want it to read it from Application tier.
Any thoughts?

I shared folder of concurrent output on Application Tier as "Concurrent_output".
I mapped this folder in Database tier as "H:\"
I made a new directory in Database as
Create or replace directory testdirectory as 'H:\';
Grant all on directory testdirectory to public;
exec testmail(123);
Error:
ORA-22288: file or LOB operation FILEOPEN failed
And I try to put a file in existing Drive i.e. (C:, D:), it works fine.If it works fine in C: or D: drives then why don't you use any of these two?

Checking database connectivitty from application server

Hello All,
I am installing Peoplesoft on Oracle Linux 6.3 but the database server is running on a different windows server. I have created the Peoplesoft database already using peoplesoft client tools(Data mover, config manager) installed on the same windows server. So now I want to verify the connectivity to the database running on windows server from app server installed on Linux.
In the peoplesoft installation guide, I didn't find the sufficient instructions to do so :
Before continuing, it is critical to verify connectivity to the database that the application server domain will use. To verify connectivity, connect to the database server from the >application server using the native SQL tool on the application server.
For Oracle use SQL*Plus.Which SQL tool is it talking about and where I can find it? I have already searched inside $TUX_HOME/bin directory but didn't find any.

Connection of oracle database in database server from application server

Hi,
I have two servers, one is application server and another one is database server…..
I want to connect oracle 10g database in database server to application server. In application server oracle 10g client is installed……In database server, I have set tnsnames.ora, Listener.ora …while checking in lsnrctl…the particular sid is running fine…
In application server, while I give as sqlplus
After giving username and password its showing error as
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
While surfing in net it shows check tnsnames.ora and listener.ora….. I have set the environmental variables here in application server…..
It’s connecting when I give

Sql>username/password @ hostname: 1521/sid_name
Is it possible to connect with the username and password
I have set the host names in /etc/hosts….
If we are giving the hostname, port number and Sid name this connects without using tnsnames.ora…..
While pinging between two servers the connectivity is there between two servers…..

Segmentation Fault when connecting to SQL*Plus from Applications tier

Hi Everyone -
I am currently in the process of upgrading a client from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1 (eventually 12.1.3) on a OEL x86-64 server. I have laid down the software stack and followed all of the requirements as per the Installation manuals and 761566.1. I also have an open SR right now on this issue - but I wanted to see if any of you have ever run into the issue that I am encountering.
When I try to run adadmin/adpatch - I get to the prompt of providing the system user password and the utility simply exits. No errors in adpatch.log or adadmin.log (both are 0 bytes in size).
When I try to connect using SQL*Plus from the applications tier using either:
sqlplus apps/****@SID
sqlplus system/****@SID
I get a Segmentation Fault error. There are also no errors in my alert log file on the database tier. I found this error while attempting to apply the upgrade merge patch.
Has anyone ever seen s Segmentation Fault error? I have search MOS, found a couple of potential solutions - but nothing has solved the issue so far.

No, my database tier is 11.2.0.3 (the database version displayed above was the client version running on the Application Tier.
Who is the owner of the application tier files? If it is applmgr user, please make sure you login as that user and source the application env file before running sqlplus -- Please issue "echo $ORACLE_HOME" and "which sqlplus" and post the output here.
My owner of the application tier is oracle. I have sourced the environment using $APPL_TOP/APPSR12Dev1_******.env

How to access the database tables from application

Hii all,
The information in webcenter content, such as meta data fields, users, security groups etc are stored in
database tables like- Revisions, SecurityGroups, Users, DocType etc..
Can we access this tables from an adf application or any webcenter application..
If yes, then what can be the approach for that..??
Another things, how can we create custom tables just like the predefined tables...??

Can we access this tables from an adf application or any webcenter application.Yes, you can - like to any other existing database. But I would strongly discourage you from any, but read-only access, or you can easily end up with inconsistent data.
If yes, then what can be the approach for that..??Just create a database connection and define in your model what tables you want to access.
Another things, how can we create custom tables just like the predefined tables...
Actually, WebCenter Content provides functionality of creation of custom tables (see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c04_metadata.htm#autoId2 ) and these are probably the only good candidates for read-write access. See further in the manual what use cases are supported. Of course, you could do this even externally, but rather than Data Definition Language, I'd use services (if there are some).

Tool to get database queries from application

I have to support an application which has oracle as a database but I dont have code for the application.So I want to know the queries run from the application whenever we work on that.So is there any view in oracle which we can use for the same?

If the application uses a single database session, you can also generate a SQLTrace file to analyse with tkprof by using either Oracle Enterprise Manager to turn on SQL Trace for the session, or use DBMS_MONITOR SESSION_TRACE_ENABLE(session_id, serial_num) - you then have to find the trace file on the datbaas eserver USER_DUMP_DEST and either read manually (the queries are easily visible) or use tkprof to analyze it Using Application Tracing Tools Among other things tkprof can tell you the top resource consuming SQL statements.

Not able to connect to oracle database 11g from application server10g

I have installed oracle database 11g. We are using forms and report services through application server 10g. I have add required entries in tnsnames.ora file. But I am not able to connect to database. I am getting following error:

Help needed in deleting nodes from RAC database

Our DB is 10g RAC database and the servers are Window 2003 server. Initially the database was configured to have 4 nodes. For some reason we stopped the instances in the first two nodes and the current database is running on node3 and node4. I queried the v$thread view and it shows 3 records. Thread 2 is closed and disabled. Thread 3 is open and public and thread 4 is open and private. Now we need to disconnect nodes 1 and 2 from RAC db and cluster ware (We use Oracle cluster ware) and plan to use those two servers for other purposes. Although I read through the Oracle doc regarding deleting node from RAC “11 Adding and Deleting Nodes and Instances on Windows-Based Systems” and wrote down the steps we need to take but I am still not comfortable in doing it since it is production env and we don’t have any dev env to practice those steps. So I would like to borrow your experiences and your lessons learned while you were doing those. Please share your thoughts and insights with us.

what's your full version? I can warn about specific issues in 10.1.0.3 and 10.2.0.1 - for example, in some cases (depending on how the listener was configured), it will be impossible to delete the listener for the deleted node. Known bug.
To avoid many many known bugs, you may want to upgrade to at least 10.2.0.2 before removing a node (from my experience, this is the first stable RAC version).
In any case, deleting a node is a rather delicate process. I really really recommend practicing. Take any pc/laptop, install VMWARE, define two virtual machines, install RAC and remove one node. It will take you an extra day or two, and could save your production.

Removing live nodes from cluster view.

Hi All,
          We are experiencing some JMS problems connected with a cluster node being
          hung for some time.
          The following took place just before the problem arises:
          1. First of all one of the nodes (the first) gets one thread
          (weblogic.jms.backend.BEPushRequestSender@76512c) stuck.
          2. After that it closes the TCP connection to another node and
          3. Removes another node from its cluster view.(that is alive)
          4. After that the second node removes the first from its cluster
          view.
          5. Seconds later they find each other again and add each other to the
          cluster view.
          6. After that, the JMS distributed members are connected to each other,
          7. Something strange happens, because either the first node starts
          missing many messages in its distributed topic member or the second
          node doesn't propagate messages from distributed topic to the first
          node.
          Is it possible to set up weblogic cluster in a way, it won't remove
          other members from cluster view by peer gone exception, only by
          heartbeat timeout? Is heartbeat retry time parameter is configurable?
          Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

You must run the update node list for each ORACLE_HOME on that machine. If this is RAC, the runInstaller will take care to update all nodes, so again, you run it once per ORACLE_HOME installed.
Shared Home is a single copy of the Oracle software, rather than each node holding their own copy of the software. There's a paper that talks about these two topics and gives some examples of full commands on OTN:

Repositories are essentially external to applications.
Applications are associated with repositories via repository configs. Repository configs allow applications to access repositories.
1. There is no special 'centralized repository'.
2. This can be done, but has caveats, especially around caching. If multiple applications have repo configs which refer to the same repository, there can be caching issues. For example, suppose apps A and B both have repo configs for accessing repo R. If you use app A to change some data in repo R, then try to read the change via app B, you can end up with cached data instead of the most recent data in repo R. This is something to be aware of with this type of configuration.
3. There is typically one WLP admin url per application. For example, if you have an application named 'FooApp', then the admin url can typically be found at 'http://localhost:7001/FooAppAdmin'. Application 'BarApp' may have an admin url at http://localhost:7001/BarAppAdmin.
You can use the weblogic server console at http://localhost:7001/console to see these -- click on Deployments, then click Monitoriing. In the Context Root column, you can see the various top-level context roots registered for this application.
4. Repositories are top-level possibly-shared entities, similar to databases.
Applications 'use' Repositories via Repository Configs.
Applications 'own' RepositoryConfigs, which allow them to 'use' a specific Repository.
It's possible to have multiple applications 'use' the same repository (each application would have to have its own RepoConfig referring to the same repository), but there can be caching issues with this configuration -- see (2).
Each application 'owns' its own set of repo configs, and therefore its own VCR namespace. The VCR namespace is compsed of the RepoConfigs that application 'owns'. For example, if an application has repository configs with names 'Repo1' and 'Repo2', then the VCR namespace includes /Repo1/... and /Repo2/...
Note that each RepoConfig entry has a name, which becomes its VCR namespace path. The path to a node in a repository begins with / followed by the name of the RepoConfig followed by /. Application A and application B may each be accessing Repo R, but via different names. For example, if A has the path to Repo R registered via name 'RepoR', then its VCR path to Repo R is /RepoR/... If B has the path to Repo R registered via the name 'R', then its VCR path to Repo R is /R/...

Removing nodes from cluster - question

Hi Guys,
I came across following while going thru oracle docs for removing a node from a cluster:
Step 2: Deleting Nodes from Oracle Real Application Clusters Databases
5.If you are using a non-shared Oracle home, from an existing node, run the following command where node_list is a comma-delimited list of nodes that remain in the cluster:
runInstaller -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=Oracle_home "CLUSTER_NODES={node_list}"
If you are using a shared Oracle home, from an existing node, run the following command where node_list is a comma-delimited list of nodes that remain in the cluster:
runInstaller -updateNodeList -noClusterEnabled ORACLE_HOME=Oracle_home
"CLUSTER_NODES={node_list}"
So here we are providing a list of existing(remaining) nodes to update oracle inventory.Now what if we have more then one oracle homes on each of these nodes - say ORACLE_HOME1,ORACLE_HOME2 etc. for multiple databases - Do we repeat this statement for all oracle homes or is their any other way around?
Also what does oracle mean by shared/non-shared oracle home?

You must run the update node list for each ORACLE_HOME on that machine. If this is RAC, the runInstaller will take care to update all nodes, so again, you run it once per ORACLE_HOME installed.
Shared Home is a single copy of the Oracle software, rather than each node holding their own copy of the software. There's a paper that talks about these two topics and gives some examples of full commands on OTN:

How to remove a node from nlb at runtime?

hello,
i need to temporally exclude a node from an nlb.
May happen that a server is up and working but the web application i'm balancing is out of sinch with the same application in the others nodes.
Eg. some static variables are not the same of the same static variables of other nodes, because of a timeout, a write error and so on but the server is still working.
in this case i need to stop the server from nlb because the information in the web application is not in sinch with other nodes.
I need to prevent users from being serverd from this out to date server, untill it will became updated, but i need to do this programmatically
how can i do it?
