Move code inside project to a parent folder

Hi,
I thought I would ask this question before attempting anything and breaking it.   When I added the project to TFS I should have put it under a parent folder,  so I could easily branch,  the way it is now I cannot branch or figure a way,  so
I need to move the project source code under a parent folder.
The way it is now,  directly under the project is all the source code folders,  .h and .cpp files etc.
The way I think it should be is  under the project folder is a parent folder projectVERSION then the source under that.  This means I can then branch at the projectVERSION folder and get a new one with a new version number.
Does this make sense?
not sure how to add a parent folder under the project,  then move all the source code into it and not have everything go pear shaped on me  ;)
NW

Hi NW,
Thanks for your post.
Yes, we usually create the Main folder, then add solution in this Main folder, then create branch from Main folder to generate the Dev and Release branch folders separately. For how to design the Branch structure in Project development, please refer to TFS
Branching Guide: http://tfsbranchingguideiii.codeplex.com/, there are several basic Branching structure type in the Guide.
In Source Control Explorer, right-click on your team project and select
New Folder to create the parent folder in your team project, then
Move your solution into this folder.

  • Applescript to move files in a folder to the parent folder.

    I've got tens of thousands of files in folders that I'd like to be automatically moved out of the folder thier in to the parent folder.
    For example:
    Summer Vacation/img/photo.jpg
    I need all of the files in the folder img to be moved out of img and into Summer Vacation.
    Monthy Report/final/report.ppt
    I need all of the files in the folder final to be moved out of final and into Monthly Report.
    So the specifics are many and varying. A script that would work without specific file and fodler names might work better.
    Any thought on this would be greatly appreciated.

    You can use launchd to run a script daily.
    The script would move files that are older than 7 days (based on the access time) from the Downloads Folder to the Desktop (edit as needed):
    #!/bin/bash
    seven_days_ago=$(date -v -168H +%s)
    for f in ~/Downloads/*
    do
              if [ -e "$f" ] ; then
                        if [ $(stat -f %Da "$f") -lt $seven_days_ago ]; then
                                  mv "$f" ~/Desktop
                        fi
              fi
    done
    Put this script in your favorite Folder (I use ~/Library/Scripts)
    Now to trigger the script daily, place this launchd plist in ~/Library/LaunchAgents/, and edit for the location of the script, and when you want it to run (I have it at 8:24pm daily).  Reboot (or log out and back in) for the launchd to take effect.

  • FCP 6.0.2 Projects don't inherit ACL or owner group from parent folder

    I am having difficulty sharing Final Cut projects between edit stations since upgrading to FCP 6.0.2 and Xsan 1.4.2.
    I have 5 Final Cut editors (PowerMac G5s) that store project files in a folder called "Projects" on an Xsan volume. The editors are all logged in to Open Directory accounts on an Xserve G5 running 10.4.11, which also has the Xsan volume mounted.
    I want all files created in the Projects folder by the editors to be writable by all other editors, I don't really care if I use POSIX permissions of ACLs to get the job done.
    All editors are members of the OD group "staff" which has full control (via an ACL) of the Projects folder and is the owner group of the Projects folder.
    From any of the computers, logged in in as one of the editors, I can create a text file in the projects file (echo "test" >> test.txt), and ls -le shows that "staff" is the owner-group of test.txt, and the staff/full control ACL is attached to the file.
    If I save a Final Cut project in the Projects folder, there is no ACL attached to the file, and the owner-group is "wheel."
    This worked as expected under FCP 6.0.1, Xsan 1.4.1, and OX X 10.4.11. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Chris

    I'm not sure if this is applicable on Xsan, but about a year or so ago I was having a similar problem on a server share. Turns out the problem was that I had R/W permission for the 'editing' group on the folder, as well as an ACL giving 'editing' Full Control access to the same folder. Did some research and found out there was a bug that if the same group is in the POSIX permissions as well as the ACL it caused problems much like what you are having. I would assume/hope that this has since been fixed in past OS X Server updates, but I don't know for sure. Give that a shot and see if the problem goes away. Just thought I'd throw out my two cents...

  • How can I exit a collection window and return to parent folder?

    I would "love" to have a place where I could ask the simple questions like this that come up and seem so simple to those who know, they don't mention the details I need like how to close a working collection window and move back to the parent folder of that collection.
    I've been stuck for two days (it happened before) in a window (library module) with a collection of 8 photos.  I cannot find any way to close that window or go back to the library collection of hundreds of photos from which it was chosen.  It's very frustrating to be stuck in this window, perhaps forever?
    How do I close these windows.  Isn't there a "back" button?
    I started in Photoshop 3, then 5, then 7, then stopped renewing due to difficulty learning PS until the Adobe CC became available with the many tutorials.  It was great learning how to make a collection, but the tutorials didn't mention how to get back to the main folder where the collection was chosen.  So again, I"m stuck at an even lower level of functioning than with photoshop alone.
    I had to copy a photo and open it separatly in Photoshop just to be able to work on it.  Yesterday I could "edit in Photoshop cc" with right click.  Today, it won't even do that.
    I suspect now two things are working to prevent me from working properly on my photos but have no clue how to fix this.

    In the library module, left-hand panel, there are different sections or tabs. Collections is one of those tabs near the bottom out that panel. If you scroll up in that panel you should see other sections, one of which is "Folders". If that isn't showing, then right-click on the Collections section heading and make sure there are checkmarks in the sections that you want to have displayed. To return to the folder you need to go to the folders section and find the folder in your list.
    Another way to return to a folder is to click in the area in this illustration:
    Doing so will present a list of folders that you have recently been inside of. You can click on one of those folders and return directly to it.

  • Movie clip inside a movie clip

    Hi everybody,
    I'm creating a slideshow with Flash, like the  ones done with Powerpoint. I would like to create a movie clip inside  another movie clip, that is, say I have a clip called button1, and when I  click it, frame number 2 in this clip is displayed, and then more  information appears. Inside this frame 2, there are other clips, for  example an X button to close and return to frame number 1 in the clip  button1, as the image shows:
    What I have done is convert the button1 text into a movie  clip, and assign an action to it:
    on (press){
        gotoAndStop(2);
    When frame 2 is displayed, I would like to  click to the X-button to get back to frame number1, so what I've done  is, again, convert it into a movie clip and assign the following action:
    on (press){
        _root.gotoAndStop(1);
    But this doesn't work. I've been trying as  well changing other things, but no way... At first I thought it had  something to do with the _root or _parent, but now it looks as when  using gotoAndStop in the "parent" button (button1), no actions work for  the "child" buttons.
    I've loaded the fla and the swf files here, just in case  someone would like to check.
    Thank you very much in advance for your help.  I've been checking other posts, but apparently I couldn't find the  appropriate info.

    "_root" is only used to reference the very first level of your flash file. Right now you are telling flash to go to the second frame in your root timeline but you want to go to the second frame in your button1 timeline.
    Change the code that is on the X-button to
    on(press){
         gotoAndStop(1);
    Remove the "_root" and it should work.
    If it still doesn't work, make sure the button has an instance name of "button1" and use this code.
    on(press){
         _root.button1.gotoAndStop(1);
    This is using "_root.button1" as the 'address' of your movieclip and it wont matter where the code is.

  • Is there a way to drag, copy, export parent folder shown in light room with multiple child folders to smug mug?

    I have a parent folder called FHS Dance Competition, that contains several folders (one per team).   I have this structure in my computer hard drive which I uploaded with one click to light room.    In the past I've had to manually create each folder, copy the name, drag in the photos, etc.  Very time consuming.    Is there a way to drag or copy, or export the parent folder shown in light room to the lower portion of the screen where the smug mug piece is?

    Ron,
    I too need to make "Real Copies" of images and hate doing anything directly from the OS because of the chance that my LR catalog gets out of Sync with the actual images on the computer.  So I make the copies inside LR with an export routine and then move the copies inside of LR with the normal drag and drop.  Once the export preset is created it can be executed from the Library Grid by right-clicking on the image (or selected images) to make the copies.  My settings are as follows in case you are interested:

  • How do I delete a folder without moving focus to parent folder?

    I posted this question in the Apple support forum and have concluded it is specific to Adobe Bridge.
    Is it possible to delete a folder and keep the focus in place instead of moving the focus to the parent folder?
    I sort my photos according to year then date as follows:
    2010
    2011
    2012
         01022012
         01032012
         01152012
         01252012
         02102012
         12202012
         12242012
         12302012
    2013
    The list of subfolders inside each year can be quite long. In order to manage my files/folder, I need to delete SUBFOLDERS (not just files) from the list. The problem is that when a subfolder is deleted, the focus moves to the parent folder, the year, instead of keeping its position and rolling the list of subfolders up.
    Any recommendations will be appreciated. I am hoping there is a short cut key that I can use to avoid the problem

    I see what you mean but is seems as designed to always focus on the parent folder when deleting a subfolder while Finder has the option to just point to a folder and with right mouse click menu choose trash without the OS focussing on the selected folder.
    Would be a nice Feature Request I would think.
    Meanwhile you might try your luck in the Bridge Scripting Forum, the folks around there have found the most impossible solutions so maybe they know a solution for you?

    I haven't watched that video, but if you move photos in your operating system ... Lightroom does NOT automatically find these photos. Finding photos that have been moved is NOT a feature of Lightroom. So, there is no fix for this.
    You would have to tell Lightroom where the photos are now located, as explained in the link from 99jon
    If you must move photos, move them inside of Lightroom, not in your operating system, or better yet — don't move them, and use Lightroom tools such as keywords and other metadata to achieve organization.

  • How do I move Final Cut Projects from internal to external?

    When moving a Project from my internal drive to an external I find that in User > Movies > Final Cut Projects the files still exist despite being moved in Final Cut Pro X.
    Again, all I'm looking to do is move ALL files from my internal SSD to an external RAID volume. Any ideas on how I can successfully do this?
    I've read the FCPX User Manual and the forum questions, but none address why project and event files unsuccessfully transfer. : (
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Graham

    Hello Tom,
    I moved the Project Files by command dragging inside of final cut pro X to the RAID volume.
    That didn't move any of the project files however, so I then manually moved them into the RAID volume and then relinked them.
    Now I'm left with this 65GB render files folder, which I assume loads the project data faster than if i did not have the render files. That's great but I'd like to be able to move them to the RAID volume without (needlessly) regenerating the files... what do you think?

  • How to move video inside LR 4?

    Hi
    Could anyone please explain to  me how to move a video, from one folder to another inside LR 4?
    I've moved pictures from one folder to another inside LR 4 several times before, I just marked the pics I wanted to move, and draged them to the desired folder, but I can't do it with these videos........
    The arrow in the left side , in folders, pointing to the folder I wish to move, is greyed out, as if something is wrong, can't figure out why.....
    If I right click on the selected videos, there's no "move" option.......
    kindly

    Hi Victoria
    Thx for your reply :-)
    Actually I'm not able to drag and drop any of my video files anymore....must be something "newbie" stuff :/
    I've attached a screenshot, and the videos I want to move, are inside the ¨DIGITAL....¨ folder,  but as said, I'm not able to move them anywhere...... Could it be that I've ¨locked¨something when messing around in LR 4??
    The Greyed out arrow is normal, as I see it now...
    what could I possible be doing wrong here?

  • How do I create a new parent folder in my LR3.6 catalog?

    I am trying to follow the LR Queen's advice for simplifying my existing catalog, in order to move it to a new computer and to then upgrade to LR4. When I right  click on a top folder, and click "Add parent folder", I do not get a new visible parent folder, and my existing folder disappears from view. Help!

    The <Add parent Folder> feature is not for creating parent folders but for making parent folders visible, in case they are not visible.
    To crate a parent folder just create a new folder by clicking on the + sign in the header of the Folders Panel, just at the right edge of the black bar with the word "Folders".
    Then drag-and-drop the other folder(s) on top of this newly created folder.

    Telling the Finder to get the entire contents of a folder will also get the contents of subfolders (unless they are aliases).
    Note that the attached folder and the items that were added are passed to the adding folder items to handler in the this_folder and these_items parameters.

  • Automator and applescript to copy new files in a folder with same name as parent folder

    I have an iMac with a pictures folder (Finder folder) containing several subfolders with pictures. As per now, all these subfolders are imported into an iPhoto library (and the structure of the Finder pictures folder is thus maintained: The iPhoto events are named the same as the Finder subfolder). I.e. I have not created any albums in iPhoto.
    I have also set up a workflow, where new iPhone photos are automatically being synced to specified Finder folders within the iMac pictures folder. So what I want to do is to make a workflow to import potential new photos from week to week into the existing iPhoto structure. I know iPhoto has this Autoimport folder, so this one is unpacked and "mapped". So, this is what I´m hoping to do:
    Automator (iCal - want to do this on a weekly basis):
    - Get specified Finder items -- set to target folder = iMac pictures folder
    - Get folder content (with subfolders)
    - Filter Finder items
         - Items from the last 7 days (which then would be any new files created last week)
    - Applescript/shell script loop(?)
         - Get folder name for each file´s (from previous step) parent folder
         - Create new folder with same name as the file´s parent folder (if not already existing) under the iPhoto Autoimport folder
         - Copy the given file into the folder from above
    - Run iPhoto application (Automator task), which then should just auto import the new photos according to the Finder folder structure
    Whith the workflow above, I aim to maintain the existing iPhoto structure, and just import new photos into the existing structure. Creating folder names under the Autoimport, similar as the existing Finder folder names / iPhoto events should make it possible to have the new files imported under the existing event, right?

    Anyone?
    I have now switched to Aperture (from iPhoto) due to Aperture´s capability to handle Finder folder structure, and due to the possibility of having the pictures within Aperture as referenced files to the pictures within the Finder folders (i.e. possibility to delete pictures from both library and Finder folder at the same time).
    So I have a superior Finder folder called "Album". Within "Album" I have several subfolders (sub albums) containing pictures. The "Album" folder with subfolders are imported into Aperture as "Projects and albums", and the pictures are uploaded within the Aperture structure as referenced files. So for now the Aperture structure is more or less a direct mirror of the Finder folder structure, whereas "Album" is the project.
    And this is my current workflow in Automator, but I´m searching help with my Applescript:
    - Get specified Finder items (target folder = the superior Finder folder "Album")
    - Get Folder content
    - Filter Finder items (to look for potential new files to import into Aperture)
         - Kind is not folder
         - Date created last X days
    The output files from this task enters an Applescript
    on run {input, parameters}
           repeat with f in input (**Loop**)
                   tell application "Finder"
                          set fileName to name of (f)
                          set parentFolder to name of container of (f)
                          tell application "Aperture"
                                 tell library 1
                                        tell project "Album"
                                               if (exists album parentFolder) then
                                                 ** I then would like to check if fileName already exist within the existing album**
                                                 ** If not existing, I would like to import file f into the existing album as a referenced file**
                                               else if not (exists album parentFolder) then
                                                       make new album with properties {name:parentFolder}
                                                ** I then would like to import file f into the new album as a referenced file**
                                               end if
                                        end tell
                                 end tell
                          end tell
                   end tell
           end repeat
    end run

    Running Mac OS X Version 10.7.2  Lion on a MacBook Pro
    Processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Any ideas?

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks.
    My HD is a "normal" HD, so I guess it's HFS+. (According to Disk Utility it is Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    The NAS is WD MyBook Live Duo. I just plugged into my Time Machine.
    I am relocating using Aperture "relocate originals for project" under the File tab.
    Ahh, thanks for the answer to question 1.
    Yes, I am trying to relocate them, but tried different things to find the problem.
    And the problem seems to be that when an image gets an extra attribute (when it's downloaded from the internet, when it is comes from a mail message) then Aperture seems not to be able to move the file.
    I.e. Aperture presumeably asks the Finder or kernel to perform this task, and this then fails because of the extra attirbutes that were set.
    I now found a way of manually removing the extra attributes, but that is a pain.
    Think of this normal workflow:
    - someone sends me an email containing images
    - I move the images to my Desktop
    - I then import the images into Aperture
    - I then decide to relocate my images for that project to my NAS
    Then is when this problem occurs.
    So I just tried to relocate to another place on my HD.
    That works fine.
    I looked again at the error message.
    And it says "could not set attributes com.apple.metadata:kMDItemDownloadedDate on destination file descriptor" .
    So, yes, it seems like it has to do with the NAS not supporting setting the extra attributes.
    And as long as there are no extra attributes on an image, there is no problem.
    (Not completely true, but I have another thread about that)
    Thanks Frank, I have to digest this a bit.

  • Cannot move or copy Projects or Events to external drive

    Short version: I have a project that I have been working on for a few months. Now that it's burned off to DVD, I want to store the whole thing on an External (Seagate) drive, in case I want to come back to it later. (For now, it's just sucking up space on the internal drive).
    I have done this before, even a few months ago with another project, but now the commands don't seem to work:
    Internal hard drive has the Project Files.
    Referenced Event files (some stills, other video clips, etc.) are on the Internal drive, and some on the External (Seagate) drive.
    I tried to "Copy to..." the Event folder to an external drive's Library, but I get a quick "Rendering..." and then nothing.
    I tried to "Move to..." the Event folder to an external drive's, but I get a quick "Rendering..." and then nothing.
    I tried to drag-Move one of the Project folders from the internal Library to the external drive, and it looked like it was moving, but after a while, I did NOT see the Project either in the Internal Library OR in the External drive Library!!! I had actually LOST the Project! (I was able to restore the project from a Time Machine backup from a few days ago... but at least one of the Media Clips is now missing!).
    I have heard that you cannot (or should not) have more than one Final Cut Pro Library on a single drive, so I also used a 500GB external LaCie USB powered drive to recover the "old" version of the main Library from Time Machine... then copied the restored backup Event into the main Library. THIS WORKED! But I cannot then copy anything OUT from my Main Library!!
    I am running a 2014 MacBook Pro, 16GB RAM, 1TB internal drive.
    OS 10.9.3
    FCP 10.1.1
    External drive is a 1TB Seagate USB 3.0 connection
    I have fixed Permissions, Checked the Drive(s) even rebuilt the Volume (using TechTool Pro 7.0.4), but nothing seems to be "wrong." I just can't get the Events adn Projects to Copy or Move!
    Thanks for your help!
    Eli

    I did this to transfer my mess of media management on my old Mac Pro to my new Mac Pro.
    I highly recommend that you not use the Move command, but only use the Copy command. I accidentally used the Move command and then it was sitting there with the "Render" thing that you mentioned and I thought it was not doing anything, so I cancelled and that didn't do anything, so I forced quit. BIG MISTAKE.
    When I fired FCP X back up, my huge feature film project had a couple hundred missing clips, because it was in the process of moving them to the other drive and the links were all hosed.
    I had to go through and reconnect it all, which took about a day.
    What I did was I drag and dropped the project files into the event that held the media for that project. I then used the Copy to command. This worked even though it sometimes looked like it wasn't doing anything. It would take a very long time. Walk away from the system. You will see the 100% notification in FCP X when it's done. It will just have a spinning wheel there for several minutes when you first start the command.
    It took me a couple days to get everything over, but it worked. Now, my new Mac Pro has clean media management with a Library for each project on an external drive and everything is self contained in that library and none of the media is linked, it's all contained in the library. I think this is the best method for handling media in FCP X just in case you need to move it again or back it up (just drag and drop the library).
    Just my opinion. Good luck.
