Move to comment

Dear All,
Here the code:
SELECTION SCREEN COMMENT dis-01
If i write:
MOVE 'titi' TO dis-01 -> comment is filled
But:
tmp='dis-01'
MOVE 'titi' TO ???? -> how use tmp variable to have comment filled ?
Thanks a lot,
Rodolphe.

Hi,
Use like this
move 'titi' to tmp.
dis-01 = tmp.
selection-screen begin of line.
SELECTION-SCREEN COMMENT 5(10) dis-01.
selection-screen end of line.

• Creative Cloud Folder Sharing, movie playing, commenting

Hello,
Like almost everyone else who's had a go at Creative Cloud's file sharing, I am very disappointed. I currently use WireDrive for project sharing/approval, but it is very overpriced. The Cage system looks very attractive - it's a quarter of the price of WireDrive and allows all kinds of stuff that is not available on Creative Cloud. Having 100GB of Creative Cloud storage that is next-to-useless is frustrating.
The obvious shortcomings of Creative Cloud's setup are:
inability to share folders - this is just ridiculous, and Adobe have promised to fix this. "Soon". WHEN?!
cannot play QuickTime movies
cannot add comments at specific timecodes on movies
cannot add comments to specific parts of artwork (like Cage's excellent 'draw a box around something and add a comment' feature)
cannot "reply" to comments
cannot "mark comment as resolved"
cannot forward comments to peoples' email addresses (like the [email protected] feature in Google Drive)
no ability to add people to a 'project', and automoatically send notifications to them, like you can with WireDrive
I may be wrong on one or two of the above comments; CC's inability to share folders or play movies means I never use it.
Please Adobe, take a look at WireDrive.com and cageapp.com and see how the Creative Cloud file sharing should be done. As it is, your file sharing is really pointless. It could become a real reason for many, many people to give you their $50 / £47 per month. These other services (WireDrive, Cage, etc.) are very expensive for what you get - a bit of server space plus some fancy commenting. You could even take a load of Dropbox's business too.
I've noticed there is no obvious way to give Adobe feedback on Creative Cloud (at http://www.adobe.com/go/wish); maybe it's because it would be overwhelmingly negative.
I'd really love it if Adobe could reassure us that they are working on some/all of the above features, so we don't have to all go and spend extra money on other, unintegrated services like WireDrive and Cage. Anyone listening?
Thanks,
Paul

I wish the Adobeans in the Creative Cloud department would take a look at how wonderful the Adobe After Effects treat their customers, in terms of feedback, bugs, and feature requests. The After Effects crew are fantastic. The "Cloud" crew are....well......not.
It is just such a shame that After Effects is now part of this cloudy crap. Maybe if enough of us request that the After Effects people beat the crap out of the Cloud people, they'll probably go ahead and do it, just to keep us users happy.

• Comment replies lost in Acrobat X on Windows 7

Last month I upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat X. I'm trying to do a very typical task (replying to reviewer comments on a PDF that I created last week). I imported comments from multiple PDFs into a single file and started accepting/rejecting comments and inserting replies.
I just lost half a day's worth of work because Acrobat X isn't saving the PDF correctly. In some cases (but not all), I would type replies to comments, and the text I typed would not show up unless I clicked on the original review comment immediately after entering the reply. As I was finishing my replies to the review comments, Acrobat crashed. I had been saving frequently, and when I looked at the timestamp of the file, it was very recent, so I felt reassured that no more than a few minutes of work had been lost. However, when I re-opened the file, it told me that it had no comments! I was unable to find any "autosaved" file, even though Autosave is on in my preferences. The Revert option did not show up in the File menu.
I re-imported the review comments into the file, and when I did this, I discovered that some (but not all) of my replies were there (and none of my accept/reject statuses). However, the replies were no longer embedded in the comments; they appeared above them, which would be confusing to my reviewers.
I just tried rebooting and starting over with a fresh re-import of the comments, but when I saved the PDF, closed it, and re-opened it, it told me again that it had no comments!
I hope someone can help me resolve these problems. Between the lost work, the removal of the Organizer feature, the inability to move the comment pane to the bottom of the screen, and the way I now have to right-click every time I want to change a comment status, I am having a very negative experience with Acrobat X so far!
-Krista

Yes, on that first item, it looks like the replies show up better if I remember to go in an select Expand All before starting my reply work. I thought it was set to Expand All by default, but I guess not.
Thanks for the tip about the author name, although I'm still not crazy about using the context menu. It's too easy to accidentally select the wrong status. It was easier and quicker in Acrobat 9 where the status item was always visible. I'm not sure why they had to go messing with something that worked well.
I'm still having the major problem with saving the replies, however.
When I import comments into the PDF, enter replies, save, close the PDF, and reopen the PDF, the imported comments and my replies are gone.
In the Comment bar, I'm selecting Import Data File, selecting the PDF containing the review comments, and clicking Open. From what I read in the Help, that is the correct way to import comments. Is that right?
I'd rather not share my proprietary manual to a public forum. I'm not having any crashing problems today.
I can't get a screenshot of how my replies were showing up above the original comments, because my replies are no longer to be found anywhere. It looks like I have indeed lost that work I did yesterday. :-(

• Is movie metadata changes written to the file in iTunes 10.1?

Hello.
I'm putting together a bunch of home videos for my parents (made in iMovie) for Christmas and I'm using iTunes 10.1 to populate the metadata (genre, movie title, comments, etc.) — is this data written to the file or is it stored in an iTunes DB? My concern is, like how iTunes handles cover artwork, will all the metadata be lost when I give them these videos (since they'll be importing into their own iTunes library) or will the information I edit in iTunes move with the files? If this information is not written to the file (ie. it'll be lost when I give them the videos), can anyone suggest an iTunes add-on that will allow me to edit these files already imported into iTunes?
Also, I assume the cover art isn't written to the file, like with music files — is this true? For example, if I add a cover to these videos (which I'm making myself as JPGs), if I add the cover art in iTunes, will it be written to the file so it appears as cover art when I give the files to my parents and they import into iTunes?
Any info would be appreciated!!!
k.

Meta X works great for editing the metadata.

I'm putting together a bunch of home videos for my parents
How are you giving them these videos? As a regular, playable DVD (such as burned with iDVD)?
If so, tags are not needed as they are not written to the playable DVD.
However, it is good to add the metadata so you have the info in the file on your computer.

• Comments in cells not good in Numbers 3.0

I have spreadsheets. Obviously with figures in different cells. Prior to this upgrade, I have several cells that have comments entered into them. Specifically the cell would contain a total dollar figure. The comment would contain the invoices that made up the total. And I would leave the comment open with the window dragged to the edge of the sheet. Very conventient, as the Comment Window could be sized to diplay whatever was desired. And I could enlarge the box enough to see its entire contents.
Now all that remain visible is the Comment Indicator. Put the cursor over the indicator and the comment displays directly above the cell. No way to move the comment box and to keep it open. Also the size is small enough that it will only display 5 lines. No way to resize the box. In order to see the entire contents, the Comment Box must be scrolled so that anything entered on the top, scrolls out of site. The scoll bar disappears almost immediately. So to scroll, I have to click somewhere in the text of the Comment, and use the up and down arrows to scroll.
Very unfriendly modification to what used to work perfectly.
There are also left and right arrows in the comment box. Is it really necessary to have scroll arrows to jump to the next or prior cell with a comment?

Numbers is good. It there is a small learning curve to be expected. And I do not expect it to be the same as Excel, which I used extensively creating some very elaborate database spreadsheets for controlling a precious metals inventory.
If I wanted the exact Excel, then why not just use Excel. Once I gave Numbers a chance, it got better and proved itself useful. I was not ready to give up on Apple's venture into Excel's territory. I am so old that I remember using VisiCalc on the Apple II+. Wow, I am old.
But to see Apple totally ignore some functions is unacceptable. This comment box thing. Why in the world would they change is from before? Were people complaining because they could move the box? or were they complaining that they could resize the box? There are things they have seemingly changed just for the sake of changing. Not because there is an improvment.
And there are quite a few people whom ask about the 'select print area' function, familiar to Excel users. It is so simple to use, why not include a similar Numbers function like this? I know they cannot call it the same thing without some sort of reprecussions from M/S. But why do they plant there feet in the sand and refuse to bend. It is like the programers are litttle kids throwing a tantrum.

• Link comment to icons objects

Is it possible to to link comments to objects that it is referring to such as shown in the figure. This would allow the comment to be moved automatically when i drag the object itself. I find it cumbersome to have to move the comment and the object separtely when things need to be reorganized.

Yup. Right-click on the structure (for-loop, while-loop, whatever) and select Visible Items -> Label. Then enter your text in the label. You can also add a description and tip for it.

• How do I get comments to appear in margins?

I have a word doc with comments that I've opened in Pages. The comments are superimposed on the text, absurdly obscuring the text they are supposed to help edit! How do I get the comments to appear in the margins instead?

YOu are using PAges 5, but sisn't say. You can't move the comments. If you have Pages 09 use that application instead and you'll gett the comments in the margin. If you had it before you should still have Pages 09 in Applications/iWork 09 folder.

• IP Comment solution (How To Document) - not showing comments in column

Hi there,
I've just implemented the solution drescribed in the How To Paper "How To... Build a Fast and Flexible Comment Solution for BEx Web Applications" and so far, it works quite well, except of one crucial thing: the comments are NOT shown in the defined comment_column of the query.
If I jump to the RRI-target or double-click the column cell, the BSP application is shown with the correct comment, but it is not shown directly in the web.
Does anyone of you know, what could be wrong or where to start analysing?
Thanks a lot

Dear Gerd
I have followed this discussion due to the fact that we use com.sap.ip.bi.rig for our comment solution.
Our comments are currently not saved in SAP BW (backend) in a table (DSO), they are stored in SAP BW Portal KM.
We are facing huge performance problems with this solutions, therefore we think about to re-desgin our comment solution. We plan to move our comments into a table of SAP BW backend.
We read the latest version 2.3 of this How To paper.
We still have a few question, also regarding the discussion of this blog.
I would like to start:
1.) the comments are NOT shown in the defined comment-column of the query. If I jump to the RRI-target or double-click the column cell, the BSP application is shown with the correct comment, but it is not shown directly in the web
This issue seems to be solved with version 2.1 of the How To... Build a Fast and Flexible Comment
Are there no complaints with the current version 2.3 regarding this problem?
2.) length of comments. Can we use more than 60 characters for a comment with this solution?
3.) Are there still any problems with alphanumeric characteristics (costcenters, orders, etc.)
4.) FM CORRECT_COMPOUND_CHARS: There was a compliant that you might have problems with compounded characteristics. Example: costcenter (char 5): 1001, cost center area: 99. BEx query result: 91001. Is this problem still current?
5.) Our requirement is to fill up comments on hierarchy nodes. In former times this was not possible in the ABAP stack, therefore we used the SAP BW portal to store our comments (note 1050190). Is this requirement of comment creation on hierarchy nodes in SAP BW backend with How To paper version 2.3 now possible?
6.) As we are already using modul com.sap.ip.bi.rig can we run our current solution (Portal) in parallel to our intended solution in BW backend by using two analysis items? This means: We need our old comments of the "portal" version, additionally we need to enter new comments with the "new" solution.
7.) We expect a performance increase with the solution to store comments in the ABAP stack, as the comments are closer to the characteristics and key figures. Can you confirm this evaluation?
It would be fantastic to get a few answers on my questions.
Kind Regards
Thomas

• Can I change where the comments go in Pages?

The comments that I can add by clicking the yellow sticky note looking button are great, but sort of annoying. I want to put them on the right rather than the left since there's more space when I expand the page. Is there anyway to do this?

You can't move the comment area. You can widen comment area if you move the cursor to where there arrow in the image points.

• Using comments in Pages

When I use the comments in Pages, the comments are posted in an order different than I want them. How can I move the comments? It won't allow me to click & drag.

When I add comments the will be in the order of the word or paragraphs they refer to. The comments have a thin line showing which word they are connected to.
I haven't been able to move any comment. I find it natural if the comments doesn't line up if they have more lines than the the word pr paragraph they refer to.

• Captions/comments ON photo - not in "info" windo

Can't find the "how-to" in iPhoto Help or the tutorial. I would like to place captions at center bottom of photo. Or, better yet, as thought balloons above our "goofy" expressions. How do I move the comments onto the photo rather than left in the "info" windo? Thanx, ~Newbie~

Another very good application is Photoshop Elements. If you think you might get into a lot of advanced editing then I suggest PSE as the application to get. I has about 80% of Photoshop's capabilities at 1/7 the price. It even comes bundled with most Canon scanners if your in the market for a scanner.

• HTML comment replication

We recently upgraded from RH5 to RH7 and I am running RH
version 7.00.145 on my machine.
After upgrading, we found there were problems with em dashes
and en dashes, in that they displayed as &emdash; or
&endash in our output. We corrected this with a search and
replace, replacing the erroneous code with RH's code (eg <symbol
name="Em Dash"><robohelp>—</robohelp>).
After this, however, we noticed that RH7 sometimes copied
HTML comments from within the header and inserted them along with
the code for the em dashes or en dashes. This produces the
appearance of an extra space in the output.
The only way we have found of fixing this is to move HTML
comments from the header to the bottom of the page, then manually
delete the extra comments around the en or em dash.
This problem does not happen with every page that has en
dashes or em dashes and there are no obvious differences between
pages that are affected and those that are not.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems? I would
appreciate any advice on why this problem is occurring and any tips
on how we can stop this.
Thanks in advance, Tricia

You need to install all the patches. There were many serious
bugs fixed in 7.01 and 7.02. There is also a 7.03 out now, which
wouldn't hurt to install either. I believe you'll need to install
all three patches in order. You can find information about the
patches and bugs on
Peter Grainge's site.
I don't think the projects you've opened with 7.00 will be
fixed automatically by these patches, but any new projects, or ones
you haven't yet upgraded won't show these issue. For the effected
projects, if you haven't done anything apart from upgrade them, you
could restart with backup copies, but that might not be a
possibility if you've made a lot of changes.
I'm sure Rick, Peter et al. will jump in with additional
info, but you can at least have a look at what Peter has already
put together.

• Sharepoint Blog Post & Comments Export

I have a blog with some posts and each post having some comments. I am moving the post & Comment list from the site to a subsite using Content & Structure.
The Post & Comment lists are moved successfully but in the subsite it shows 0 comments for all the posts. In other words the comment list has been moved but it has lost its link to the Post list.
Can you please suggest how to rectify this

Got the Solution...
When You move the Comment list to the Subsite, the Title Post Column becomes Null, this is the column which actually conencts both the post & the comment list.
Solution : Open the comment list in Edit Datasheet view Change the Post Title Column for all the comments. It will be a drop down populated based on the Post title Just Select and Save the sheet and now check the Bog all the comments will be linked to the
post.

• Migrating Comments and Replies

Solving this problem is critical to the workflow...
I manage design review for a large CA state agency. We have been using the Acrobat shared reviews for about a year and a half with great enthusiasm.
The workflow requires the migration of comments and replies from one design submittal to a subsequent set of revised documents (drawings and specifications, typically). Documents are converted to PDF (not plotted as an image).
It is very important that comment and response authors' names stay with the comments and responses (instead of "publishing on behalf of..."). To achieve this, my admin staff will typically follow these steps:
1. Send out the revised documents for shared review.
2. Migrate the comments and replies from the previous review to the revised documents.
3. Systematically change identity to each reviewer / replier: change identity, close/reopen Acrobat, reopen the shared review document, publish for that person only (leave unpublished comments unpublished), change identity to the next review participant, close/reopen Acrobat, etc. until all migrated comments and replies are published to the shared review folder.
This works fine but it is a bit convoluted and time consuming. Replies stay with the comment.
Now the problem:
Not often, but occasionally, a migrated comment and response will find itself on the wrong page or drawing (as the design progresses, pages and drawing sheets are added to the set). It does surprise me that most migrated comments land in the right place. Only the person who wrote the comment can move the comment (the change identity trick facilitates this). As long as the comment is being moved to the correct loaction on the same page, the reply moves along with it. If a comment/reply needs to be moved to a different page, the comment and reply become separated (the comment moves but the reply stays behind). Obviously, one cannot be both the comment author and comment responder at the same time if these are different people.
This blows the whole workflow out of the water, when comments/replies must be moved across pages. It is impossible to move a response back into the comment (text can be copied/pasted but then the current date is adopted. Plus this is extremely time consuming.
Once again, it is very important for the original author and responder names to remain with the sticky note (instead of "on behalf of").
If anyone knows of a trick to move a comment and response to another page, please pass it along. Migrating comments from an archived copy BEFORE sending the revised documents out for shared review results in all comments being published "on behalf of".
I have suggested to Adobe that the review administrator be allowed to manipulate/move/ even delete all reviewers' comments without having to change identity. This suggestion was made well before v9 was released. Perhaps it will be a critical enhancement of v10.
Any suggestions or ideas for a workaround in the meantime would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry Bogovich

If it works in a new user account, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

• Ratings and Comments vs Ratings and Comments?

A little background, we are currently on CQ 5.4 but are working on migrating to AEM 5.6. In 5.4 we overlaid the OOTB Comments/Ratings components so now when we upgrade we have a few issues that we need to work out. While looking at the code differences between OOTB 5.4 and OOTB 5.6 you can see that everything related to Ratings and Comments in 5.6 is deprecated.
Ok. We'll deal with the upgraded version then... problem is the Adobe documentation still actively promotes the old (now deprecated) ratings and comments components:
http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/5-6/administering/social_communities/comments_and_ratings.ht ml
As well as what appears to be the new ones:
http://dev.day.com/docs/en/cq/5-6/developing/DevelopingWithSocialCommunities/SocialCommuni tiesElements/UsingRatings.html
Even the Geometrixx code in 5.6 uses a mixed bag of old and new depending on which part of the Geometrixx code you are looking at. The sidekick in 5.6 has the old "Collaboration" group as well as the "Social Collaboration" group with a Ratings and Comments component under each group.
Clearly we don't want to continue using code that is deprecated if we can help it but there are features in the old Ratings component that don't seem to be available in the new Ratings component. Namely the ability to rate a page as an anonymous user. The ability to "allow comments" is not clearly defined either. I can see it working in the Geometrixx example on the second link above but I can't figure out how to configure it from the dialog or documentation.
Additionally it looks like all the comments and ratings are going to be stored in a different place in the repository. Is there any migration tool to move existing comments to the new structure?
Any help is appreciated,
Dave

As a follow-up to one of my own questions, I see now that geometrixx-outdoors has a custom "reviews" component that allows ratings to collect comments. I'll investigate this further.
