MOVED: Problem setting up Raid 0 on the 790GX-G65 mb.

This topic has been moved to Windows 7.
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=130475.0

I have had many problems with this board (K9N Diamond 590) and the RAID.  First, I tried the setup, (which I have set up may board with RAID controllers) by trying XP Pro.  I could not get the RAID 0 to work.  Then I setup with XP_64, trying the RAID ) configuration and it installed the drives.  I even did a full format for drive integrity purposes.  The Windows installation file copy would fail on me every time between 2-4%.  I broke the RAID on XP_64 and installed on a single drive.  That went flawless.  I ran this for like 2 days and found out that there were no 64 bit drivers for my printer, sooooo I wen back to 32 bit XP to give the RAID a try again.  I got the latest nforce drivers directly from nvidia's site and went to install.  I read on another forum that you should plug the drives in to 0-master and 1-master (not 0-master and 0-slave) go figure... that actually worked.  Got XP 32 bit installed and running.  I was very happen, the the tumoil started to rear it's ugly head...  I try to copy big files to my hard drive and I get the beloved blue screen of death.  This happens every time I try to copy large files.  This only seems to occur when I am copying files to the HD.  I am using the wd3200ks drives is what brought my attention to this thread.  I am so frustrated with all the trouble this have given me I could scream!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • Problems setting up RAID on a Mac Pro 2.1 using all 4 drive bays

    Hi,
I'm trying to repurpose my Mac pro as a network storage device and have bought 4 x 3TB WD Red drives so I can use it as 6TB of storage that is mirrored. I'm running into several problems and could do with a bit of advice.
I have tried booting from the OSX Snow Leopard installer and running Disk Utility to setup the RAID 1 system, but every option I try ends up with an error message saying it failed because it was "Unable to find RAID"
If I actually go ahead and install the operating system it will allow me to use Disk Utility setup up the RAID systems on the drives, but only 3 of them as it won't allow me to use the boot disk.
Is it actually possible for me to create a setup where OSX is installed on a RAID system? Currently I'm trying to install OSX to an external drive so it will allow me to setup all 4 of the internal drives as a RAID system...and I was hoping once that is done I can install the operating system on an internal drive
I also tried partitioning one of the drives so that I could install OSX on that and use the rest of the storage for RAID, but the install kept failing.
Can anyone recommend any solutions for this? Currently it seems like my best option might be to permanently use a small external HD as the boot disk, leaving the 4 internal drives to function fully as a RAID system
I was hoping to set up 2 pairs of striped drives that are mirrored. I think this is RAID 10?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    A couple different ideas.
Install OS X somewhere else, then use CCC to clone to your array.
    Don't use 1+0 type array.
Invest in SoftRAID and set up a 3-drive mirror - you have to shutdown to swap drives, but you can do a better mirror and faster rebuild plus it uses all drives in a mirror for reads so performance is enhanced.
People had mixed results and support using a 4-drive mixed mirror+stripe setups.
Apple's "Pro RAID" card has had I think poor support, limited to 2.2TB but could do RAID5.
Put the system on PCIe SSD blade XP941, bootable in Mac Pro 1,1 and above running 10.5.x and above; and then have a good clone and restore, and put all the data on your array - and I would still go for a simpler mirror-only with http://www.softraid.com

  • Advice on RAID Sets, Volume Sets, and RAID Levels of the Volume Sets using an Areca Controller

I have read through a lot of information on disk usage, storage rules for an editing rig, users inquiries/member responses in this forum and I thank each and every one of you – especially Harm.
In building my new workstation, I purchased five (5) WD 1T, 7k, 64M SATAIII hard drives and an Areca RAID card, ARC-1880ix-16-4G, which I plan to use primarily as my media/data disk array.  The workstation will use a 128GB SATAIII SSD as the OS/program drive and I will transfer two (2) WD Raptor/10k SATA 70GB drives from my current system for pagefile/scratch/render use.  I tentatively plan on using a mobo SATAIII port for the SSD and mobo SATA ports with a software RAID (level 0) for the 10k Raptors.
In reading the Areca Instruction manual, I am now considering exactly how I should configure the 5 physical 1TB drives in terms of RAID Level(s), Volume Sets, and RAID Sets.  I must admit that I like the opportunity of allowing for a Dedicated Hot Spare as I am generally distrustful of the MTBF data that drive vendors tout and have the bad experience in the past of losing data from a mal-configured RAID array and a single drive hardware failure (admittedly, my fault!).
In line with the logic that one doesn’t want to perform disk reading while trying to write at the same time (or vice-versa), I am thinking the approach above should work OK in using the mobo disk interface and both software and external hardware RAID controllers without having to create separate RAID level configurations within a Volume Set or further dividing up the physical drives into separate RAID sets.  I know in forum messages that Harm noted that he had 17 drives and I could envision a benefit to having separate RAID sets in that situation, but I am not at that point yet.
To some degree I think it might be best to just create one RAID Level on one Volume Set on one RAID Set, but want to solicit thoughts from veteran controller users on their workflows/thoughts in these regards.
Anyone care to share thoughts/perspectives?  Thanks
    Bill

Thanks for the speedy feedback Harm - I appreciate it.
I was thinking RAID level 3 as well.
Of course, it's always something!   I purchased the Caviar Blacks by mistake - which are non-TLER.   I will work with EggHead to return the ones I purchased and replace them with RE4 versions  as I'm not thrilled about the possibility of the controller declaring the volume/disks degraded unnecessarily and although I have the DOS utility WDTLER where one is supposed to be able to enable/disable TLER on WD drives  - I suspect WD is way beyond that now anyway with current builds.
I agree with you about just testing the performance of the options for the raptors - on the mobo and then on the controller.  When I benchmark them I'll post the results in case others are curious.
    Thanks again....off to EggHead!

  • Does the 790GX-G65 Support the new UEFI / Click-Bios

Hey Everyone! Does anyone know if the MSI 790GX-G65 supports the new UEFI / Click BIOS? I presume that if it does, I could use the forum's bios flashing tool to update it

    Quote
Does anyone know if the MSI 790GX-G65 supports the new UEFI / Click BIOS?
    No.
The board uses old-style AMIBIOS8 coded BIOS releases.  There will be no UEFI (AMI Aptio coded) releases for this board.
Still, for BIOS Updates, >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<.

  • What's the 790GX-G65 like?

I'm thinking of maybe getting the MSI 790GX-G65... any interesting comments? any good or bad experiences? anything I should watch out for?
I'll probably run either a single Radeon or Geforce. Doubt I will go for Crossfire...
I have been an Nvidia and VIA fan but VIA seems to have disappeared and there are no AM3 Nvidia boards in my country either.
(There are also only three or so AM2+ Nvidia boards here that support SLi and aren't some ancient design based on nForce 430 and GF6100)
However the market is filled with AMD/ATi chipset boards of just about every kind..

I won't be using the onboard video so it doesn't matter how slow it is
If I really was going to crossfire I'd put two cards in anyway...

  • Problems setting up old iPhone for the kids

So here's the deal, Got a new iPhone 6 (with which I am very happy) and decided to set my old iPhone 4 up as basically a house mobile, You know the one you give to the kids if they are going somewhere and need to take a phone.
Problem 1, Because the iPhone 4 is running iOS 7 i can't download and install find my friends so I can keep track of the kids. I get the message that I need iOS 8 or better to install this app. Apple doesn't maintain a iOS 7 version?
Problem 2, I was setting up restrictions on the phone and under content I selected to "never allow" a particular social network website. After setting the restrictions I opened safari to test and found that I had no problem accessing the barred website. What the...?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Step 1 is to access TC via AirPort Utility. It sounds like you are stalled at this step. Turn off your AirPort wireless for now. Connect an ethernet cable from your Mac to TC. Any of the 3 LAN ports will do as you've already connect your modem to the one WAN port. Open AirPort Utility. If you still do not see TC, perform a hard reset (with a paperclip). Try AU again. If TC comes up, follow the setup procedure according to what kind of setup you want. If you want to connect wirelessly, setup accordingly. Once you're satisfied with your setup, restart TC. Hopefully the green light will go on. Turn on your AirPort wireless and disconnect your ethernet cable.
Good luck and welcome to Apple Discussions!

  • CR XI - Problem Setting Line Graph colors in the Chart Expert

    Post Author: desselle
    CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
    Hello,
I created a Crystal Report (CR) of an existing Trend Analysis report. I have created a VB6 application that calls the .RPT file I created for the report in CR.  The VB6 app sets the report recordset via code that corrsponds to the .TTX file, and the parameters .  The report contains a Line graph that plots five pieces of data.  The report & graph work good.  CR determines the color of each line on the graph.  However, I need to set the color for each line to correspond to the colors used on our existing reports.  The users are accustom to a certain color representing a certain set of data on the existing reports.   I have tried everything I can think of and from all documentation I can find, and nothing changes the line colors.   I have tried all of the following:
1.) From the Chart Expert, Option tab, I click the Format button next to Color and setup conditional color settings per each piece of data.   However, when I run the report these conditional color settings are not reflected on the CR graph.     I am using formula fields (based off database fields in the recordset) to produce the report.  However, I only see the database fields to use in the conditional color formatting screen and not the formula fields.    I thought this would possibly be the cause why the colors wonu2019t change on the CR, but I canu2019t find a way to make the formula fields show up in the list.
2.)Also, I tried right clicking the individual lines of the graph and change the selected item color, but this didnu2019t change the color either.  I do this in Design mode and Preview mode and neither one changes the color of the lines on the graph.
3.)I have also looked into the CR object model to see if I can change the line colors of the graph via code and it doesn't look like I am given this flexibility.
Do you know what I am doing wrong here?   I just want to be able to set the color of each line on the CR graph to the color I want instead of using the default colors.
    Thanks,Steve

    CA Forum: Charts and Graphs
    Hello,
I got the problem fixed w/ the line graph not making the data lines the same color on the report as on the frmPlot graph.   Compare the two screen shots below.   The problem was as follows:  When I created the graph (in the Chart Expert) the field u201CReadingDateu201D was not one of the Report Fields, and all the other fields were Report Fields (Reading, LowAlarm, UpperAlarm, LowerLimit, & UpperLimit). See the 3rd screen shot below.  ReadingDate does show up as a Report Field now but it wasnu2019t at first.   Originally, this field was only available in the Chart Expert as a recordset field.  When I changed this field to be a Report Field, the graph then allowed me to change the data series line colors.   This was not obvious at all.   From the beginning when I setup the graph and passed in the recordset from VB it graphed all of the data series fine.   The colors that the Chart Expert chose for each line just didnu2019t match what was on the frmPlot graph.   Anyway, it is working now.     I can at least say I learned (somethingu2019s to-do and somethingu2019s not to-do) a good bit about Crystal Reports in the process.
    Thanks

  • Problem setting up 2 interfaces against the same destination

    Hi,
I've been trying to to configure one SunFire v240 with two extra ethernet interfaces. I can configure it but all traffic (at least outgoing) still uses only one of the interfaces.
I can ping both interfaces from another machine. But if I unplug one cable both interfaces are unreachable.
I did the following to setup the interfaces:
    ifconfig bge1 unplumb

Is there any known problem with this setup?
    Best Regards,
    Christer

This is due to the routing tables, which in your case
specifies that all data that heads for the
192.168.10.0 network will be sent out through bge1.Correct.
If you want to use both interfaces when sending data,
you have to trunk them.IPMP is also supported.
It seems very strange that both interfaces gets
unreachable if you disconnect one cable. As you mentioned. The interface itself isn't really unreachable. But the reply to any traffic tries to use the other interface so it isn't useable.

  • Problems Trying To Set Up Raid 0 On SATA (Plat SLI)

I booted up for the first time and tried to install the drivers for RAID as I installed Windows. After installing the drivers, Windows wanted me to pick one of the drives, and I figured I should have set up the RAID using the RAID setup on the motherboard. I restarted to try and do this and it just tells me 'error loading operating system' every time. It will let me install Windows if I want to, but I want to set up my two drives in RAID 0 first - is this trouble 'cos Windows plonked some data on the drives?
Pressing F4 or Ctrl + S is supposed to invoke the RAID setup utility but it doesn't work (I don't get a screen like the manual says I should for five seconds either). Whilst installing Windows, F3 for 'exit' didn't work, whilst Esc for 'cancel' did...
I've tried the reset CMOS button which didn't do anything useful either.
Edit; just noticed 'T' and backspace doesn't work either. Could/must be a big fat keyboard issue.

Sorry was on vacation last week.  Here is what you want to check.  In your Bios, (I think under Integrated Peripherals, but not 100% on that) There is an option for enaling or disabling the Silicon Raid controller, I recommend disabling it, especially if you want to use SATA II.  There is also an nVidiaRAID Config section, make sure that it is enabled and that the correct items are enabled underneath it.  The ones I have are:
    RAID ENABLE                       Enabled
    IDE Primary Master RAID        Disabled
    IDE Primary Slave   RAID        Disabled
    IDE Secondary Master RAID    Disabled
    IDE Secondary Slave RAID      Disabled
    SATA1 RAID                         Enabled
    SATA2 RAID                         Enabled
    SATA3 RAID                         Enabled
    SATA4 RAID                         Enabled
Under the IDE Function setup make sure SATA1/SATA2 and SATA3/SATA4 are  ENABLED
    as mentioned before:
    Onboard SiI3132 RAID         Disabled
Onboard SiI3132 Mode        RAID   (I have this set to raid although with the controller disabled I doubt it makes a difference)
now after you get the Raid setup to launch and configure the array, go back into bios and make sure the boot sequence shows the raid array at the top of the list, if you only have the 2 drives it should already be there.
after all of that, go back and install windows using the f6 to load BOTH drivers from thre floppy marked Nvidia Raid Drivers

  • Any ideas on the best Config for RAID-0 on the Precision M6800 using SSD's (and the mSATA slot)

Hi,  I have an M6800 on order that has a single 500GB 7200RPM hard drive.  I am going to upgrade the storage the day it arrives (removing the 500GB drive and not utilizing it at all).  I plan on setting up an SSD RAID-0 array and want to take advantage of the mSATA slot if possible.
I thought of using the 2TB 2.5" Seagate/Samsung Momentus SpinPoint ST2000LM003 hard drive for storing unused vhd\vhdx files as well as video and photos,  then using an SSD RAID array for the OS, Applications, Data and any active vhd's.
Is it possible to set up RAID-0 using the mSATA SSD slot and the primary internal hard drive slot?  I want to use those 2 drive connectors so I can still use the 2TB 2.4" regular notebook hard drive without removing the Blu-Ray Writer?  I plan to write video to Blu-Ray discs that will be stored on the internal 2TB drive, so removing the optical drive is something I want to avoid.
As a general question, Is there any advantage to using RAID with SSD's, or would a single 1TB mSATA SSD in the mSATA slot be nearly as fast in real world use as a 2 disk SSD RAID?  Would I have a noticibly quicker boot time and application load time if using SSD RAID?  I know the speed test specs show large increase in performance, but will the computer really run a lot faster with 2 x 500GB SSD in RAID-0 as opposed to getting a single 1TB SSD card for the mSATA slot?
I was planning on getting the Samsung Evo 840 SSD 2.5" drive and the matching Evo 840 mSATA card.  There is a Samsung 850 series drive, but it is only available in 2.5" (mSATA is not available in the 850 as far as I can  tell).
Please suggest the best solution that is compatible with the M6800 or provide any information that might help.
    Thanks

    Hi Ential,
Thanks for the info, I thought my question would go unanswered forever.  I posted the question in January, and I have since set up the computer.  Below I will detail my research and the configurations of drives that I have used on my M6800 since the time I posted the question you answered.  Perhaps the results of my research and testing might help you.
I originally I bought the same exact model SSD's that Dell sells with the computer thru their website;    the LiteOn 512GB drives (mSata & SATA),  I configured them in RAID-0.  The LiteOn drives are sold under the brand name Plextor,  I found the proper model numbers by looking at the SSD drive firmware upgrade file from the Dell support website.
From what I understood,  my RAID-0 drive consisting of the 2 LiteOn drives had impressive performance using the AS SSD benchmark program,  I was getting performance scores over 1600 back in February.
I have since changed to the Samsung EVO 850 1TB drives and again created a RAID-0 drive,  one SATA drive and one mSata drive totaling 2TB.  This drive array is getting AS SSD performance scores over 1900.  I contacted Samsung to get some advice on the configuration of the drives and I got some interesting advice that seemed to help a lot:
Samsung told me to leave 200GB of the drives (100GB each) unallocated when I partitioned the drives,  this is generally referred to as "overprovisioning" (which you probably knew already).  I initially thought that overprovisioning could only be configured by the Samsung Magician software and a special process needed to take place to tell the firmware to utilize a specific amount of drive space for overprovisioninng.  The Samsung support agent told me that the Samsung SSD firmware (on both mSata and SSD) automatically uses any unallocated space as overprovisioned space (they are basically the same thing to the drive firmware) and it increases performance in a very  noticible way when you have sustained use of the drive and/or durinng the time in between the TRIM process (garbage collection).  The unallocated space is used by  the firmware to write data to while blocks of data are awaiting internal wiping initiated by the TRIM process.
Since I have 200GB of unallocated space,  I am able to have more sustained deletion and writing of data between TRIM/Garbage Collection runnninng than I would ever utilize without affecting the performance of the drive.  Basically most SSD drives have performance decrease throughout  the day until the TRIM process is completed by the drives firmware,  so Samsung instructed me to leave at least 10% of the drive space unallocated to limit that problem.  Smaller drives likely need a higher percentage of space unallocated as compared to larger drives since the daily amount of read/write operations is typically the same regardless of drive size.   The amount  of space left unallocated/overprovisioned is based upon the amount of read/write operations done on any given drive,  not based on the size of the drive itself.  If you run drive intensive applications, you would then want to overprovision more GB of drive space,  if you have light use of the drive then you can overprovision/unallocate less GB of drive space (all of the configuration info regarding overprovisioning and TRIM was given to me by a Samsung specialist over the telephone - I called their tech support phone number and got a storage specialist to talk to me).
I will look into the SATA version on the optical bay,  I never thought about that with this computer.  My prior computer was a Dell XPS 17 3D (L702X) notebook which had 2 internal 2.5" SATA,  in which I installed an optical bay drive.  On that specific computer the optical bay was technically an SATA 3,  but due to design constraints it couldnt run at that speed since there was voltage leakage across some pathways in the chipset when the optical bay has read-write throughput that is typical of a hard drive (as opposed to much less data transfer typically seen on an optical drive).  The M6800 can be factory configured with an optical bay hard drive, so I suspect it can support one properly.  The XPS 17 was not available with an optical bay drive as an OEM configuration from Dell,  so it couldnt be expected to properly support one.  The design issue with the voltage leak across the chipset pathways on the XPS 17 was known by Dell,  but due to the low bandwidth of an optical drive, the problem never occured with any of the factory OEM configurations.
It is possible that the optical bay  hard drive offered by Dell (the exact OEM Drive installed by Dell) could have an internal limitation to SATA 2 due to a similar design limitation.  It would not be surprising if an SATA channel designed for optical drives had SATA 2 speed since I suspect there is no SATA Optical drives that could use more than 3GB/s of data anyway.
I purchased 2 of the 2TB 2.5" hard drives that Dell uses for OEM configurations for this computer,  they are Samsung 5400 RPM drives.  I have one in a 2.5" internal bay and the other in the optical bay - I converted my Blu Ray Recorder/Writer drive to an external drive.  I will do some extended time speed tests on the optical bay drive to see if its performance matches the internal drive (which  is the same exact model drive - I have 2 of the same Seagate 2TB drives installed with the same firmware).
I use the pair of 2TB drives to store .vhd and .vhdx drives for test platforms for Hyper-V machines.  The virtualized servers with high hard drive utilization get moved to the SSD RAID-0 array,  the rest are stored on the 4TB rotational drives.
If you have any questions or comments for me,  please let me know.  I will see what info I can find on the optical bay SATA revision for this notebook,  I am very curious to find out if it is in fact SATA 2.  I will let you know what my test results are,  I will try to use the AS SSD benchmark program,  I believe it will work with rotational drives,  otherwise I will find another benchmark utility - do you have a recommendation on which to use?
Thanks again for your info and for pointing out the possible limitation of the optical bay..

  • Problems setting up a Domain - javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException

I am having problems setting up a Domain. The following steps summarize
    what I have done.
    1. Created FooDomain in d:/bea/wlserver6.0/config and created
appropriate config.xml, startup scripts, security, etc... (FooDomain
    boots ok)
    2. Moved console.war to bea/wlserver6.0/config/FooDomain/applications
    3. Connected to FooDomain via console (works ok).
    4. Defined machine FooMachine (happens to be localhost)
    5. Defined new server FooServer (in addition to default myserver) and
    assigned it to FooMachine.
    6. Created a new directory d:/managedServers/FooServer (note - outside
    installation directory)
    7. Created directories d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs &
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications
    8. Copied sample startManagedServer.cmd from mydomain to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer & modified appropriately.
    9. Ran startManagedServer.cmd (Note: I was able to connect to the
    Administration Server ok)
The problems are as follows. (From the console - pointing to the
    Administration Server for the FooDomain)
    1. I am unable to configure a DefaultWebApp_FooServer to be located at
d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications. I get the following exeption:
    javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException:
    FooDomain:Name=DefaultWebApp_FooServer,Type=WebAppComponent.
    2. I get a similar error when trying to set FooServer log locations to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs
Any ideas as to why? This then begs the question, what if FooServer was
on a different physical server altogether. How would I define the
location of the DefaultWebApp and logs.
    Thanks

If you want your application work, think my way. At least, all my teammates have used this method to build their development environment. If you are more interested to debug for Weblogic, contact your support representative. The tools from Administration console look very nice, but not function as you want (e.g., the tool to convert version 5.1 application to version 6, even monitor tools). Administration console is very nice to be used to configue the parameters for a domain, but not so trustful and not for application setup in my own experience and that is why I suggest you use mydomain and DefaultWebApp_MyServer as templates. By the way, I did modify config.xml manually to change the default web application entry, etc, to what I want.
    Jay Zammit <[email protected]> wrote:
I did not modify config.xml manually. In fact, I am able to boot both the Administration Server & Managed Server. The problem happens when using the Administration console to assign my logs and Default Applications directory to the d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs, and d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications/DefaultWebApp_FooServer directories. Try it yourself. Go to the Configurer WebApp option and type in a fully qualified directory such as d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications/DefaultWebApp_FooServer
and see if it works on your system.

One suggestion. Use the default domain mydomain as a template. Just make a copy of "mydomain" in folder config and rename the copy to whatever you like. Use some help tools to search all files (non-binary files) in new domain for key word "mydomain" and replace these words with your new domain name. To build an application, just rename the DefaultWebApp_MyServer to what you like and search "DefaultWebApp_MyServer" in all files (non-binary files) in your new domain and replace these words with yournew application name. Note you need to modify the scripts accordingly. Then you can run "startWeblogic" in your new domain directory to start your new domain. Other parameters should be configured by Administration console. If you manually modify configuration files, you could expect some bad news without reason.

I am having problems setting up a Domain. The following steps summarize
    what I have done.
    1. Created FooDomain in d:/bea/wlserver6.0/config and created
appropriate config.xml, startup scripts, security, etc... (FooDomain
    boots ok)
    2. Moved console.war to bea/wlserver6.0/config/FooDomain/applications
    3. Connected to FooDomain via console (works ok).
    4. Defined machine FooMachine (happens to be localhost)
    5. Defined new server FooServer (in addition to default myserver) and
    assigned it to FooMachine.
    6. Created a new directory d:/managedServers/FooServer (note - outside
    installation directory)
    7. Created directories d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs &
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications
    8. Copied sample startManagedServer.cmd from mydomain to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer & modified appropriately.
    9. Ran startManagedServer.cmd (Note: I was able to connect to the
    Administration Server ok)
The problems are as follows. (From the console - pointing to the
    Administration Server for the FooDomain)
    1. I am unable to configure a DefaultWebApp_FooServer to be located at
d:/managedServers/FooServer/applications. I get the following exeption:
    javax.management.InstanceNotFoundException:
    FooDomain:Name=DefaultWebApp_FooServer,Type=WebAppComponent.
    2. I get a similar error when trying to set FooServer log locations to
    d:/managedServers/FooServer/logs
Any ideas as to why? This then begs the question, what if FooServer was
on a different physical server altogether. How would I define the
location of the DefaultWebApp and logs.
    Thanks

  • 790GX-G65 (...yet another one) LAN problem

    Greetings to all!
    System specs:
    Mobo: 790GX-GD65
    CPU: Phenom II 550 x2
    RAM: Kingston 2x2GB 1333 DDR3 (value ram)
    PSU: Seasonic S12 430W
OS: Win XP Pro SP3 and Kubuntu 9.04
From the very first day that I bought this system (2 months ago) I encountered problems with my LAN port. The mobo had BIOS version 1.1 which I upgraded to 1.3.
The LAN port is connected to a router Zyxell 660H-61. The IP is assigned by DHCP.
So let me describe the problem. When I am connected to the internet and browse, sometimes it suddenly disconnects and connects immediately in a sec. The "local area connection status" icon pops two messages saying "network disconnected" and "local area connection is now connected".
Sometimes it never reconnects. When I try the "repair" it stucks at the point when it tries to get the IP.
The LAN port seems to be dead. Restarting the PC does nothing to fix it. Restarting and entering Kubuntu 9.04 shows also the LAN port dead.
THE ONLY WAY to fix this problem is to turn the PC off, turn the button of the PSU off for some secs, then turn the PSU button on, turn the PC on and voila! LAN port is alive again!
I have encountered this problem for over 20 times and this was the only way to make it work.
I would like to know if there is a fix for this problem. Are MSI engineers aware of this problem? Will I have to RMA my mainboard? It seems to me that this is NOT a driver problem but a hardware one.

Thanks for your effort and help guys but...
    @stu
The cable is properly "clicked" into the LAN port and I have double and triple-checked it.
    @DeHillBilly
    1. I don't quite understand the question. What do you mean "trying it without the router"?
    2. I have the latest drivers but I don't think it is a matter of drivers since the same thing happens at Kubuntu 9.04 too. (see my first post)
    3. I have tried a different cable but results where the same.
    @connlaoi
SKU? You mean the model? It is a Seasonic S12-430. I really don't think that a quality PSU like that is not able to manage the load of my 790GX-G65 plus a Phenom II 550, a couple of low voltage (1,5V) DDR3s and an HDD Western Digital 640GB. (I don't have a graphics card!)
    All these working at idle...
After all the PSU can give 384 Watts at 12V lines (14+15 Amperes) which would be enough to "feed" that rig plus a medium to high end card working at full throttle.
Let's just don't exaggerate when it comes to power supplies actually needed by most users.
One more hint which I don't know if it might be useful: When I first bought the 790GX-G65 and the PH II, I installed my old nvidia 7600GT. I connected my monitor to the 7600GT but I had NO signal. The card, seemed to be dead, but was NOT, no matter what I tried. One day I had ,for some reason I don't remmeber, to unplug the power cables from the wall (my PC was turned off of course in case anyone wonders  :D).
When I turned it on, like a miracle, my gfx card was recognized, alive and working.
So the same "trick" that I do to revive my LAN port whenever it ""decides" to die, did work for the seemingly dead gfx card.
The "trick" actually is some sort of reseting the board as it totally cuts the electrical power from it. Would that mean that there is something faulty at the BIOS? Something faulty at the Realtek chip responsible for my ethernet connection?
    I am confused...
EDIT: It seems that another person has almost the exact same problem with me! https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=129403.0 (Network problems with MSI 790FX-GD70)

Hello i'm facing  problem  i downloaded itunes version 11 32bit for windows 7 and after i installing the set up when i opened the iTunes a massages  occur saying i tunes could not connect to iTunes store an unknown error occurred (-3212) even  though my internet is on

    Try this...
Triple click anywhere in the line below to select it and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
    cmd /k netsh winsock reset
Press the WinLogoKey+R to open the run dialog, then Ctrl+V to paste, then press enter/return.
You should get something similar to this:
Reboot the computer and the problem should be resolved.
If it doesn't work then perhaps a full tear down and rebuild of iTunes will fix things. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for details.
