Movie Player Control

*Hi Community!*
I've downloaded the sample code of the +MPMoviePlayerController Class Reference+.

When you open the project there is a "My Overlay View" class which includes an button.
This button is shown during the movie plays.
I've disabled the "Standard Movie Player Menu" and want to handle the Video with the button.
_I want to add the following functions:_
-The Video should stop automatically after 10 Sec.
-It should go on with playing, when you press the button once.
-It should stop again after 15 Sec.
-It should go on with playing, when you press the button once.
Because I'm pretty inexperienced I can't create this functions on my own.
Can somebody help me please about this?

How to control the movie player in iPhone SDK 2.0?

Hello, everybody!
With the third beta version of iPhone SDK I finally played a movie with the example from the manual. But I need to seek in the movie and control the playing process. With the MPMoviePlayerController class this is impossible, because it has four properties (backgroundColor, contentURL, scalingMode, userCanShowTransportControls) and only three instance methods (initWithContentURL, play, stop). The notifications are two (MPMoviePlayerScalingModeDidChangeNotification, MPMoviePlayerPlaybackDidFinishNotification). How can I know what is the current position of the head and how can I change it? I can't find other classes, which can play a movie. Can somebody help me?

Quicktime Player controls -- able to move outside of window?

Hi, when playing quicktime movies in the regular sized window in which they pop up (not full screen, etc) is it possible to move the control display (for play, reverse, etc) outside of the window?

You can move it around but can't move it off the window.

Autohide Flash Player Controls

I've imported a Video file into Flash and added Player
Controls.
I've set the Autohide option to TRUE... so when the player
loads you can't see the Player Controls until Mouse Over.
This is all good... but they stay there and I don't want
that. I'd like for them to disappear again.
How do I set it so the Player Controls disappear
again?

Yeah I started to wonder if I could add a 2 px thick transparent "frame" around outside edge of the movie that - when moused over - would trigger the autohide. but I am not enough of a Flash/AS person to know how to do that.

No Quicktime player controls in web browser plugins

When using the Quicktime plugin under Firefox or Internet Explorer I do not get any player controls (play/pause, progress, volume etc). All that displays is a black bar where the control bar should be.
I am running the latest version of Quicktime player (downloaded it yesterday). I am using Firefox 3 RC2 and Internet Explorer 7.
Please advise how I can get the player controls to work, because as you can imagine, its pretty hard to play videos/sounds without them.

I have seen similar problems on latest QuickTime v7.5.5 on Vista SP1 64bit platform... when viewing Lynda.com training videos under IE v7 and Firefox v3.02/v3.03. Specifically, the controls are not visible and/or do not work properly (eg reset to start when click on mid-point of timeline) and other times the video blanks out in windowed of full-screen mode with no suspend or power issues... and I am forced to restart QuickTime for video to re-display. The video controls in windowed mode also sometimes do not work.
I found the solution was to change the ADVANCED settings of the QUICKTIME player...
Open Quicktime 7 player... but do not open any content.
Click on Edit tab and go to Preferences, then click on Quicktime Preference.
On window that opens, click on the Advanced tab
You will see a selection under VIDEO heading for Safe Mode (GDI only) or Direct X.... click on Safe mode (GDI only)
Then click on Apply, then OK.
Restart Quicktime and play a movie to test it.
For me, this resolved all my problems... even though had latest DirectX installed. I hope this helps in your case!

No Player Controls

Hi guys
I'm using Captivate 3 and when I publish, there are no player
control bar. its works fine in the preview.
Any ideas?

Are you publishing in .EXE format? If so, I've seen it where
you record something full screen and the .EXE doesn't show the
playback controls. If this is what is happening, it's likely
because the controls are out of the viewable screen area. One way
to confirm this is to click File > Save As... to produce a new
copy of your project, then click Project > Resize Project... and
shrink the copy by perhaps 40% (60% of original size) then publish
that and I'm guessing the controls are there.
I think you will find the bottom line answer here is that
your movie size needs to be smaller. Either that, or you need to
click Project > Skin... > Borders tab and DE-select the "Show
Borders" check box so as to push the playback controls up and
partially cover part of your movie.

How to publish a Captivate piece to Import as Animation with Media Player Controls

I want to record a demonstration of an application using
Captivate 3. Then, I want to publish this as a flash piece. (swf).
Then, I want to "import as animation" into a WBT template using
Captivate. The issue I am having is importing the flash piece to
include the media player controls so the user has control of only
that flash piece. Usually, we get two swf files one of the main
recording and another of the skin (media player). I know I am
missing something either in my publishing options or somewhere
else.
Can anyone help?

Welcome to our community, juando_m
You might try this. In the first project, click Project >
Skin... > Borders tab and DE-select the "Show Borders" check
box. This should coax the playback controls into the main part of
the movie so there is a single .SWF. You could then have the
playback controls present in the .SWF you insert into the second
Captivate.
Note that doing this will also cause the playback controls to
cover part of the movie.
I'm not sure how well the playback controls will work once
the project gets inside the second. So I wouldn't be too surprised
if they failed to work. But they might. So it's definitely worth
trying to see.

In my FLA file, I have a FLVPlayback component in my library.
When I export the video to an SWF it provides me with 2 SWF files:
the flash movie and the skin. With those 2 files, I also upload my
FLV file to my server.
On my media server, the video displays correctly (here's the
link to it:

However, when I try embedding the video onto a different
sight and server, just the video displays. I completely understand
that there's 2 different SWF's, but how do I import the video
correctly, so the video playback is displaying correctly when
embedded on other/external sites.
Is there a way to attach/import the SWF for the skin? I'm
just trying to embed video's like YouTube and I'm failing horribly!

QuickTime 10 player controls annoying, can they be changed?

The new player for QT10 has the player controls sitting on top of the actual video window, they do fade away and disappear once you hit play and move the mouse off the player, however, when the mouse is over the video window or the video is paused, the player control box sits permanently on the video. I can drag the player control box anywhere within the video box, but I can't get it out of the player. I would like it to live under the video image, below the player window. I can't find any options for changing this. This really is a HUGE annoyance for me. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

I use QT 7.6.3 Pro as the main Player/Editor and, after a bit of playing around, now have it set as the "default" non-iTunes movie file application under Snow Leopard.

Captivate 2 - Embedding Player Controls

Hi Everyone,
In Captivate 1 I could embed the player controls into the SWF
file. Now it appears that the controls are output to a seperate
skins.swf file. I need my video and controls embedded into a single
SWF file because my LMS system can only accept a single file. Can
anyone tell me how to embed the player controls in Captivate 2?

Hi Steve
I believe you would do this as follows.
1. Click Project > Skin...
2. In the Skin: drop down, scroll to the bottom of the list
and choose "BMP Playbars".
This should result in a single file that contains the former
version of controls. However, you will also find that Captivate 2
will still output two .SWF files along with the HTML file. If you
upload both the HTML file and the .SWF file to your LMS, you will
need to amend the HTML file so it correctly references only the
base .SWF file. It seems that Captivate 2 will seemingly always
point at the playback control file in the HTML file. The playback
control file then loads up the main .SWF file. Also note that the
HTML file will also contain a differing height statement for the
movie. Presumably this is to account for the added playback
control.

Eltima SWF Movie Player for Mac 2.0

Hope this is the correct area for this - I'm trying to locate an older version of the above flash player - every site I try that has the version 2.0 always downloads the version 3.0 - which does not play on OS 10.2.8 but only OS 10.3
The older version - Eltima SWF Movie Player for Mac 2.0 - will play on 10.2.8 - so Iam trying to source this copy of SWF/FLV
can anybody help???

I did find a substitute FLV player, for 10.2, at the URl below, but I was hoping the Eltima v2 might work even better than the J-VHS.
I'm sure someone will have a copy somewhere - there used to be mirror sites carrying all the old mac software that had lost popularity - but I can't locate it yet either.

Finding Flash Movie Player to associate SWF's

I'm not sure how it happened, but my computer will not
associate SWF's with the Flash Movie Player. There is not an option
to associate it to Flash within the simple "Open with" option, nor
can I find the Flash Movie file to associate to the SWF within
Control Panel/Tools Folder Options/File Types. (Yes, the
FlashPlayer is already installed on the computer.)
When flash webpags online is not a problem, it's trying to
view a swf that resides on the computer.
Any suggestions?

I'm fairly new with the video in flash mylself, but have done
a little. If you go to file>import video, all you do is follow
through the steps that it gives you. You'll have to decide whether
you want to embed your video or have it as a progressive download
as well as compression and quality. If your project is for the web
then embedding will make your file size bigger so probably not what
you want. After following through, flash imports the video and adds
flv player to your library, that's what you would put onto your
stage. The flv player is also customizable so you can get the look
you want. Should be stuff in the help file if you wanted to do more
with customizing. Depends on if you want buttons for the user to
use, or just have it auto play with no controls, your choice. Don't
forget a preloader if your movie is big. Hope this helps get you
started.

QT Movie Player vs. iTunes

My downloaded TV shows look fine when viewing in iTunes ... Howerver, when I try to play them in the Movie Player (which I like to do, because I like the controls better), they have white artifacts all over the movie once it is enlarged 2x or 3x (full screen).
Can anyone tell me what causes this, and if it can be fixed. I'm pretty sure this started to happen after upgrading to QT 7.x

the TV shows I have downloaded from iTunes Music Store ... and they used to work FINE in QT Movie Player before vers 7.
Uh, no, they couldn't. The videos from the iTunes Music Store are all in protected h.264 format which can't play in versions of QuickTime prior to QuickTime 7.
If you haven't updated to QuickTime 7.1, you might give that a try, since among the problems is addresses is some issues with playback of h.264 content. If that doesn't help, if you have any third-party codecs installed (DivX, 3ivx, etc.) you might try removing them and see if that makes a difference.

Player control for flash animation containing streamed FLVs

I need to learn how to build a player that will control my animation when it contains 3 or more streamed FLVs. I also need it to be functional during development of the animation so that I can provide partial animations to my sound guy to sync voices, music, and sfx. Are there any good tutorials out there? I can find FLV player controls, but I need to control a Flash movie that contains FLVs.

You don't say what your version of Windows you have. Assuming XP, go to Start | Run, type DXDIAG and click OK. Click the Sound tab and run the tests to eliminate a hardware problem first of all. If you don't hear anything, check your cables first of all. Also make sure "Mute" isn't checkmarked in your sound setup. You'll find that in Windows Control Panel.
Which browser do you use? If you have Firefox 4, sign up to the HTML5 trial @ http://www.youtube.com/html5
HTML5 is the latest video standard and doesn't require Flash player. Google is in the process of converting all its files to work with the new format. It may solve you problem. If you don't have Firefox 4, you can get it from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/fx/
IE8 doesn't support HTML5.
To clean out your temp files, go to Start | Run, type: CLEANMGR and click OK. Click OK again to start the utility. Tick all the boxes except "Compress old files" because the latter takes too long, and then click OK. You can run this utility any time you wish by the way.
The above steps will hopefully fix your problem. If not, post here again please.
