Movie Previews on Apple TV 2

I've just recently bought an Apple TV 2, but I'm having problems previewing movies. Sometimes I can, on most occasions I can't and I'll get an error message saying "An error occured loading this content, try again later ". I'll try again on the same movie after I've had the error message and the second time around it usually works, atlhough not always!!. Even if it does work first time around, I usually get the spinning cog for about 10 seconds before the preview loads. I've tried both resetting and restoring the Apple TV 2 but the problem still exists. My internet connection is absolutely fine and I can watch stuff on YouTube through Apple TV 2 with no issues whatsoever, I've tested my download speed and it's as it normally is, very fast. I'm running the latest software as well (4.3.3), so I was wondering if anyone else had experienced similar issues, and if so, any ideas how to resolve this problem??

They load extremely fast on my system, as do rentals.
Have you gone to speedtest.net? What is your speed?
Youtube content is highly compressed so it may not be the best thing to judge your connection on.
Try connecting via ethernet if you're on wifi to rule out interference.

Just look through the list of posts - you will see many people asking the same question. My father and i (different households) have the same issue. Apple techs want to blame it on interference or firewalls, BUT everything was working before the update so that is just a blow off answer. Apple needs to fix this.

Why does my itouch freeze when I try to watch a movie/preview from itunes? I tried to watch the preview. I don't want to purchase a movie if that is what is going to happen. The signal on the itouch has full strength. It works when I watch a music video that I have purchased from Itunes. I also have Belkin G-801.11 which is what is required according to the itouch instructions. I have only had the itouch three days and I returned one because of the same thing.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Movie previews S.....L.....O.....W to queue up

Is it normal to wait 5 to 10 minutes to load a 1 to 2 minute movie preview from the Apple TV channel when everything else (netflix, hbonow) steaming is nearly instantaneous?

You don't want (don't need) to convert to AVI to burn a DVD.
Open iDVD, drag in your .mov file, arrange things as you want and burn.
Then go to bed while iDVD does the work.

How can i watch a rented movie in my apple tv?

I rented a movie in iTunes and want to watch it in my apple TV. I try to "drag" the movie to the apple TV under Devices, and can't seem to do it. When I go to my shared movies in apple TV the rental is not there. Does anyone know what I need to do?

I assume you are using the Apple TV 1 (silver/grey).
The rental needs to be transferred to the Apple TV. It sounds as though you have paired a secondary (streaming only) library only and you need a primary library to transfer content.

Purchased movies from iTunes on iPad. Movies have transferred to iTunes on Mac BUT I'm unable to wee/watch movies on my Apple TV. I can see all the other movies I have purchased on iTunes on my AppleTV but NONE of the movies that I purchased on my iPad.

This one has me confused. I have all my devices set up for home sharing. I can stream music and movies from my iphone to my Apple TV. I can stream from my iMac to my Apple TV and from my iPad to my Apple TV.
However, the movies that I originally bought with iTunes on my iPad have transfered to my iTunes on my iMac BUT I can not access these movies through my Apple TV.
The movies I bought on iTunes on my iMac have a small half blue circle and the ones purchased on my iPad do not. Not sure what this means...
This has me really confused and I'm sure it might be nothing more than a simple setting somewhere but I would love to figure this out. It's almost like there is some digital right on these movies and it's not allwing me to access this from my other Apple devices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why can't I purchase movies from my Apple TV? When searching not all available movies even show up!

I've had my apple tv for a while now, but have never actually purchased anything from the itunes store directly from the device. A friend recommended "Sleepless in Seattle" to me, and since it's not in Netflix or On Demand, I decided to buy it from itunes.
In doing a search in the Movies section of my Apple TV and typing in "Sleepl", I got no results. Bummed, I went onto Amazon to see how much the DVD would cost. On a whim, I opened itunes on my computer and did a search for the movie. To my shock, it is available for purchase on itunes for $9.99!
Once I found this out, I went back to my Apple TV and searched again. The movie still didn't appear to exist. I noticed then that every movie on the apple tv only gave me the option of renting, not buying. I was going to purchase from my computer, but then thought better of it because I wasn't sure it would be made available for me to watch on the apple tv.
Is there something wrong with my system? Why can't I buy movies from the device? I can buy tv shows, so it just seems weird to me that this is limited to the movies!

That profile was written in 2007 and never updated. Unlike you, I don't live on this forum. I have one 5 year old Dell gathering dust, waiting for the trash that has some kids software on it my kids never use.
Currently I own a 27 inch iMac, and a 21 inch iMac used by my wife. I just sold my MacBook Air, which replaced my MacBook Pro of two years ago. I have an AppleTV v2, and unfortunately gave my AppleTV v1 to a friend before I realized they stripped out the movie purchase feature. We also own an iPad, two iPhones, and 4 iPods, two of which are used as digital music storage for our cars.
So yes, all of my factual posts concerning Apple's shocking decision to try to hide the fact they removed significant functionality from AppleTV when they revved it, are just driven by the fact that 4 years ago I used almost no apple products. Apparently I harbor a twisted desire to hurt the company that provides me almost all of my technology of choice today, despite being an early software developer for the Mac, helping start two Macinotosh software companies in the 1980s and 1990s, and working at Apple for 2 years in the early 90s.
The truth is, Apple's products weren't so good 15 years ago so I gradually switched to Windows for professional reasons. About 4 years go I bought an iPhone, and started to wake up to the fact that Apple had done a tremendous job moving the Mac platform to the intel architecture, and was very happy to replace my crappy dells with Apple products.
But that doesn't mean I wear blinders when their product teams and marketing department makes mistakes, or does something deceptive.

Apple TV sees my iTunes Library but movie purchased via Apple TV will not synch to computer. Anybody know how to help me with this?

Rentals on ATV cannot be transferred.
The 2nd and 3rd gen model do not have accessible storage. Some movie purchases are stored in iCloud (if you live in the US) where you can reload in iTunes on your computer)
If you own the 1st gen aluminum model then it should be set to sync

Ahh, thank you! What a pain in the neck. I figure I must have been signed into his account at some other point in time, maybe after... watching a movie..? [Though, that'd be the iTunes store, right? Not the App Store.] Anyway, some situation must've occured where I absentmindedly updated and iPhoto is now tied up with his account.
I'll go ahead and contact support to see if they can get me sorted. I suppose I can just ask him for his password, but.. oh, you know, it's a temporary solution and I guess I was just hoping to easily get iPhoto properly associated with myself again. Thank you!

How do I get movies purchased on Apple TV to download to my iTunes library?

Using iTunes 10.7 on my iMac where my main iTunes library is located. I have a couple of Apple TVs with the latest updates. When I purchase a movie on Apple TV, what is the easiest way to get it to download to my iMac? It seems that it is much easier to purchase movies on my iMac and then they show up in the library for that computer on my Apple TV - but you have to wait for the movie to complete the download before you can watch it - sometimes inconvenient.
So, following a purchase of a movie on my Apple TV what is the easiest way to download that purchased move to my iTunes library so I can also watch it on the computer or my iOS devices?
SOLVED: Looked at post labeled "Movie purchases in iCloud" and received my answer. Movie now downloading into my iTunes library.

Thanks - I understand this in principle - but still think it should be up to the user.
If my Apple TV glitches and I lose a bunch of tv shows, its not the end of the world.
If I have no room on my computer for a large powerpoint presentation for work because my hard drive is full of Simpson episodes, it is.
Not giving the user the option not to have gig upon gigs sent to his computer is very.... well, Gatesian.

Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?

I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.
Any help would be appreciated.

Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.*

How can i see "recently added movies" on my apple tv?

On my apple TV 1 st generation, i had the option to view the "recently added movies" on the apple TV menu. Now that i have the apple TV second generation, I DO NOT see this option but i can still see the option "genre, unwatched, by movie". Is there anyone who can help me out on this one? (By the way i had to move all my movies from one hard drive to another, maybe it's something to do with that?)

I think I see now you mention playlists. You can create a smart playlist in iTunes and access it from the Apple TV, this would appear in the nested section under playlists though rather than in the three viewing options at the top of the movie listings. Before you can view playlists you need to enable playlists in the settings.

You can't, unless you bought them from the iTunes Store on the Apple TV.
The Apple TV can receive content only, it does not sync content back, except items that you have purchased on the Apple TV.
