  • Streaming movie rented in iTunes to Apple TV2

    Hi
I have a home network set up, and from our iMac stream movies, music etc to Apple TV2. Wireless router is Airport Extreme, with a Time Capsule acting as an extender. All hardware is running the latest version of software.   Sharing of movies and music, photos from the mac's library is working flawlessly, but I cannot get movies rented from iTunes store to stream to the Apple TV. In iTunes on the mac Rentals is a seperate folder in the library to movies I have copied to the iTunes library.  I cannot see the rented movie in my shared library on ATV2 or a section for rentals.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Then you did not rent the movie on the AppleTV.

  • Watching movies rented in iTunes on Apple TV (Now)?

Is there a way to sync my rented movies to my Apple TV "today" to watch on my wide screen?

It seems that not just the old Apple TV owners, but even new purchases will have to wait. If you go to the Apple TV page in the online Apple Store, a little "Movie Rentals coming soon" appears on top. It seems like even if you buy a new one, you have to wait 'til this software update is released. That's pretty bizarre if it's true. In any case, I'm sitting here wondering how they missed the MacWorld deadline to get that update out. Oh well, I'll have to be patient. I'm glad that at least it's a free update and I'll make even more use of my Apple TV. The rentals will be great if the movie companies cooperate and get the titles up quickly. If they do, I'd much rather click "rent" than drive to a store and then have to return it too. On the other hand, if they wait 30 days after the release of a DVD like I read somewhere, I might rather drive down to the rental place. I think that the movie industry is the one who is blowing it for themselves and all of us because they are so ****-bent on the copy protection crap. The music industry finally realized that there's a different, more successful business model than locking down content out of angst-filled greed. Let's see how quick the movie industry learns. We can all get on with our lives and the market will flourish. They're hurting themselves but can't realize it. (sigh)

  • HT1657 Can a movie rented on Apple TV be viewed on my iPad?

Trying to find out if movies rented or bought on Apple TV are available to view on my iPad or iPod touch.  Surely there must be way...

Not if you download it directly on the Apple TV - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 :
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • I rented a movie using iTunes on my MacBook Pro, but it won't move to my first Generation Apple TV

I justed downloaded a Rented Movie from iTunes on my MacBook Pro. I did it through United Airlines e-miles to get credits. Now, when I try to move it from the  Rented Movies to the On "Apple TV" box on my Apple TV box, it stays in it for no longer than 35 seconds after I click on Apply and then moves back to the "Rented Movies" box. The only thing that appears in the Apple Symbol progress box is Syncing "Apple TV" is "Copying 2 of 2: IMG_0318" and them it moves back to the "Rented Movies Box. The same message appears if I click on Sync with it still in the "Rented Movies" box.
How can I overcome this problem? I have 29 days and 23 houors to solve this problem, but would like to do it for watching NLT Monday, 21 May 2012, evening!

Mr. Churchill - First, to answer your last questions:
Yes, the movie is fully downloaded, all 3.69 GBs.
No the Apple TV has 127.5 GBs of its 144.63 GBs free.
Second, I tried turning the Time Capsule WiFi rounter and Apple TV off (for at least two or three minutes, not the usual 10 seconds recommended) and I still could not move the movie.
Third, I severed the link and set it up again re-synced all 5,103 items back and still when I move the movies to the Apple TV box and Apply it, after 35 seconds it stops the sync and moves it back the the Rented Movies box.
Though I have set my Apple TV to sync with my MacBook Pro I cannot find a way to connect it to other than shared library, but not the "not shared library" (Is this what the Rented Movies are?). Is what Fletch is talking about int the "Rental Movies not showing up on Apple TV" discussion my problem and a solution?

there are three possibilities: you have not upgraded to version 2.0 or in Summary on the ATV device in iTunes, you should look whether you have it set up to only sync or otherwise disables movie syncing, or you have not paired your Mac to the ATV (on your tv, settings/computers/connect to itunes library - not shared library)
MacMini core duo, Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Or is it something else?

how can I get an itunes movie from macbook to apple tv via airplay?

You don't use Airplay.  You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

Rentals can only play on one device/computer at a time.  Have you tried to play on the computer and still have that window open?
Have you transferred the rental to iPod/iPhone or iPad to watch?

  • Can't find the "Video" move button on Apple TV to move Rentals from MacBook

Hi, I just bought an Apple TV. I had a couple of rented movies on my MacBook Pro and would like to watch the rentals on the Apple TV. I have already looked in support and it says it is possible to move the rentals to the Apple Tv by clicking on the device and click the move button. I have done this with my ipod before. When I click on the apple tv I get only "Summary" and "Photos" tabs. There is no "Video" tab as described on the Support website. Can anyone help me with this?
I have no problems watching or listening to my iTunes Library on Apple TV.
    Thanks
    Ramona

You have the tv set up to use your itunes library as a secondary library, change it to a primary library.

  • HT204291 All of a sudden, my Apple TV requires HDCP for playback. It is directly connected to my HDTV and I never had any problems so far. Apple TV  also refuses to play movies rented from iTunes. What's going on?

Why does Apple TV suddenly requite HDCP for playback?
No mirroring possible, it even refuses to play films rented from iTunes.
Apple TV linked directly to HDTV via hdmi cable?

    Hi Seraphiel07.
I have a very similar issue. Hardware involved:
Apple MacMini (Mid 2011) - OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple TV (3rd Generation). Home Sharing (access) enabled.
Apple MacBook Pro (15" Mid-2009). OSX 10.8.2. iTunes 10.7. Home Sharing enabled.
Apple iPad 2 (Wifi only). iOS 6
    Apple iPhone 4S. iOS 6
    All connected through:
Apple Time Capsule 8.0211n (4th Gen)
I have an iTunes library on the MacBook Pro, shared over "Home Sharing" and another (duplicate content, different library name) iTunes library on my MacMini, which is also accessed through the Apple TV.
All software is current (as of Sep 26th).
All movies are iTunes purchases. 80 in total.
All files are purchased (and home shared) under one account.
My last two iTunes purchases both HD movies on 09/17/2012 and 09/05/2012 refuse to appear on any device accessing either of the two Libraries over Home Sharing. It should be noted that every other movie (the other 78) all show up and play correctly. I therefore know it is not an issue with connectivity, otherwise I would see zero movies available.
    I have:
    1. Removed all content from each Library and re-added
    2. Upgraded the OS on the MacMini 10.8.2
    3. Tested viewing the two missing movies on other Apple devices and no luck.
    4. Turn home sharing on and off within iTunes and also on each device.
It would appear to me that the issue is with the files themselves, rather than the devices as different devices and different versions have been tested.
    All comments welcome.

  • Can i transfer my rented movie from computer to my apple tv

just wondering can i do that..... ty

Yeah, so it's still broken for me, and moreover, the problem has passed from being irksome to a shrieking waste of my time. Here's what I've done:
    0. Rented a movie directly from the Apple TV -- successfully
    Then:
    1. upgraded iTunes to 7.6.1
    2. nuked settings for iTunes (e.g. wiped slate, restarted, re-entered all info)
    3. nuked settings on Apple TV, re-entered all info
    4. re-established connection between iTunes 7.6.1 and Apple TV
    5. Re-tried moving the movie from iTunes to Apple TV
    6. FAIL! FAIL! FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!
I then emailed iTunes support, which was quite gracious in their reply: "We're sorry, but you have a technical problem, and here's a number for you to call. Be aware that calling Apple for tech support may cost you money."
It was at that point that I decided to give up, having little appetite for being blackmailed and insulted repeatedly. I've got a movie on my MacBook that I have little desire for watching on a 13.3" screen, and 27 days to hope for a miracle because there is zero to no instrumentation or other information I can use to debug this maddeningly stupid problem.
Please pass this information to the Apple TV developer team before deleting it (because this is an Apple forum, yanno, and this post certainly isn't singing any praises). I've got no energy to file a bug on Radar, and I'm out $2.99 and several hours of mindless troubleshooting. It's the "several hours" that's got me upset the most of all.
No thanks, Apple, you great big black void of nonresponse.

  • Rented a movie on my Macbook Pro, can't watch it on AppleTV

I used a gift certificate to rent a movie on my macbook pro.  I tried watching it on my 3rd generation AppleTV and can't.  Am I doing something wrong, or has Apple turned into the Man?  Please tell me the former, or I will lose all faith in humanity.

Did you let the rental fully download before trying to watch it.

  • My Apple TV all of a sudden refuses to show my movies from my MacBook and says it needs to set time network. What is that?

My Apple TV all of a sudden refuses to show the movies from my MacBook and says it needs to set time network. What is that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV should set it's time automatically from the network time server, if it isn't doing this try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, if this fails try resetting or restoring it.

  • I rented a movie from iTunes on my apple tv, can I watch this rental on another apple tv that's on the same network and under the same account?

I would like to rent a movie from iTunes on one of my apple tv's and would like to know if I can watch that movie rental on another apple tv on the same network. I used to rent movies on my Mac and was able to watch on different apple tv through home-sharing.

    Hey hskcheng,
Movies rented on an Apple TV can not be transferred to a different device. See this article for reference -

  • Movies rented on Apple TV, not synching back to iTunes?

I thought I understood that movies you rent from the Apple TV 2.0 would synch back to iTunes and be available to watch on the Macintosh or from there could be synched to a current iPod for viewing. (For 24 hours once the movie is started on any device, or for 30 days which ever comes first.)
I took the Apple provided update to Apple TV (40GB) so now I am on version 2.0. I took the iTunes update to 7.6. My Apple TV seems to sync just fine with my iTunes library, i.e. otherwise couldn't be happier with the product.
I launched iTunes on my Mac; my Apple TV appeared as a device and then went back to my TV and rented a movie directly from Apple TV interface and watched it immediately. That process went just as Apple described it should, i.e. very smooth. However, immediately after watching the movie, I checked iTunes for rented movies (devices: Apple TV, Movies tab, and didn't see it. In the Rented movie section of the screen it said, "There are no rented movies in your iTunes library that can be transferred to this Apple TV." This is correct, but I just thought somewhere I would see the movie I had rented from the Apple TV within my iTunes. I tried proactively hitting the synch button; nothing. Went to the Movies library; nothing.
Perhaps I misunderstood the process as described by Apple (Steve Jobs 2008 MacWorld keynote) and the process really doesn't work in the ATV to iTunes direction. But I'm hoping there is something simple I missed in my settings in either iTunes or Apple TV to enable this to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much! I was under the wrong impression about moving movies rented on the Apple TV back to the computer. The forum has come through for me three out of three times I have posted question. Thanks again!
*Can I play my rental on more than one device?*
If you download a rented movie on your computer, you can transfer it to your Apple TV, iPod, or iPhone. Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only be viewed on one device at a time. *If you rent the movie on your Apple TV, it is not transferable to any other device and you must watch it on your Apple TV.*
