Movies short clips from iPhoto to iTunes

I have some short movie clips in my iPhoto from my digital camera, how do I move these into iTunes to put on my iPod?

Hi.
No. iTunes is match is for music  (and music videos purchased from iTunes Store) only. There is no equivalent for movies.

  • Want to move iphone device from iphoto to itunes

new laptop (macbook pro) and was worked w/ Genius bar person today to move everything from my old hard drive to my new one. didn't discover until tonight that he did something so that my iphone doesn't launch itunes, it launches iphoto -- so the device only shows up in iphoto not itunes. I need to get it back to itunes so that I can manage syncing, etc. How do it get it back to itunes? thanks.

It doesn't show up in iTunes when I open iTunes manually -- and it never shows up even after a while. I went to Applications/Image Capture and under "Connecting this iPhone opens..." iPhoto was selected in the pulldown. I didn't see an option for selecting no application, but when I clicked on "other" I could select iTunes. I did that, but nothing happened and there was no way to "save" that preference. When I plugged in my iPhone again, it still didn't show up in iTunes.

  • Can't move mpeg clip from Iphoto to imovie

Im a new MacBook Pro owner. I have done my first upload of pictures and video from my digital camera. Everything is visible and and video plays in Iphoto.
In imovie, I cannot get the video clips to transfer to imovie to add to my project to my dismay. The photos easily transferred but not the video clips. A sample clip is named mov04914.mpg. Could it be a file type issue?
I have followed the tutorials- when I click in Iphoto videos in the Even Library list: nothing is listed. I have even exported to the desktop and tried to import from there- it won't allow me to select it.
    HELP!!

I have followed the tutorials- when I click in Iphoto videos in the Even Library list: nothing is listed. I have even exported to the desktop and tried to import from there- it won't allow me to select it.
iMovie '08 only imports what it can edit. Other files are ignored. Muxed compression formats like MPEG-1 are not editable in iMovie. Convert them using a third-party, MPEG-based application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • I don't want to import video clips from iPhoto!

iMovie automatically imports video clips from iPhoto, and I don't need or want this to be done. I don't want to delete or move those clips from iPhoto, so is there a way to prevent the automatic transfer?

Go to your Hotmail account on the web (NOT in mail), make a new folder (or folders) for the mail you want to keep and move the messages into it.
Mail (and all other email clients) will download all messages in the inbox unless previously downloaded. That means downloaded with the client you are attaching now.
Until that is done do not setup the account in mail.

  • Transfer movie metadata from iphoto to itunes?

    Short version:
Does anyone know a good way to transfer the iPhoto metadata associated with a movie in the iPhoto Library to iTunes? IE: I want to import a movie stored in my iphoto library to itunes so I can watch it on my apple tv. But I want the description, title, and keywords that I associated with that movie when I organized it in iphoto to come over to the itunes entry for that movie as well. Any way to do that?
    Long version:
So I have a bunch of movies that are organized in the iphoto library. These are movies that come in from my point-and-shoot camera, my iphone 4, and my digital SLR. I want to watch these movies on my apple TV (2nd Generation).
I know that I can option+drag these movies into itunes, and that will make them viewable on the ATV2. However, when I drag them over to itunes, none of the metadata that I added to the movies in iPhoto transfers. I'm talking about the "description", title, keyword information that I can add/edit in iPhoto. Apparently iTunes just grabs the actual filename from the movie file, but otherwise doesn't take in any metadata, and definitely doesn't take the info from the iPhoto library.
That means I have to fill in this information twice: once to organize the movies in my iPhoto Library (where the actual movie files are stored), and once to organize the movies in my iTunes library (where the movies are viewed from when using Home Sharing on ATV2. I find myself copy-pasting the description from the iPhoto interface into the description field in iTunes for each movie file, one by one. Got to be a way to automate this.
I understand that the metadata is stored in an iPhoto database somehow, and not actually written to the movie files themselves, but you would think that iTunes would be able to access the iPhoto database somehow. . .

But the description and title that you enter for a movie in iPhoto are clearly stored in some sort of iPhoto-only database, even if that metadata is not actually inserted into the movie file itself (.mov, .avi, whatever). Why can't iTunes access that database?
I would love for iTunes to be able to access iPhoto's database so that when I drag a movie from iPhoto to iTunes, the description and "title" are still applied. Instead, when I drag it over, iTunes just uses the movies file name as the title (often just some meaningless letter/number combination), and doesn't have anything in the description field. So I have to take the extra step of copy-pasting the description and title over from iphoto to itunes. Annoying.

  • I want to import short clips from home movies. How do I do this?

I am wanting to import short clips from old family movies which are on DVD. What is the best program for this? I don't want to import the full DVD just several short clips and then be able to use these clips in imovie.

You'll want to look at DVDxDV Pro.  It can select very small segments on a DVD using the expandable timeline.  This allows you to find exactly the part of the DVD that you want. It also has an iDVD export preset.
This video shows you how to grab individual clips from the DVD.

  • How do I transfer movie clips from iPhoto to iPad?

How do I transfer movie clips from iphoto on my iMac, to my iPad?

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

how do I move Movie clips from iPhoto to I movie

I've found dragging & dropping onto desktop & then drag & drop into iMovie works okay

  • In making a "highlights" movie, using clips from different imported iMovie events, can I delete the larger iMovie event file from the Events browser and still work w the smaller clips in the Projects browser w/o having the larger files still loaded?

I have sucessfully imported 150 Sony digital 8mm movies (each one hour in length) into iMovie as 150 iMovie events. I have since successfully converted them from their original 13 Gb (.dv) file to an exported smaller 1.3 Gb (.4mv "large file") movie that I am happy with, using the iMovie projects browser. So now I have 150 " .4mv" movies on my internal HD as well as about half of my original raw data " .dv " movies on my internal hard drive.
Due to their large size (over 2 Tb), I do not have all the larger raw data (.dv) files on my 2Tb internal drive, just about half of them. What I want to do now is to create a new project in the Projects browser for each of my kids, and reload, starting with Tape #1, each of these larger files and do a highlights movie for each of my kids, wherein I pick out smaller clips from each 1 hour .dv iMovie event and paste them into the appropriate kid's Highlights project in the Projects browser.
Here's my question: If I load the first 5 large files back onto my internal HD, and paste in various shorter clips into each of my kids' Highlights project, and then if I delete those first 5 large files (they are backed up on 2 other 3Tb external HDs), can I keep doing this (reloading the next 5 large .dv files to work with), and ultimately take each of my kid's Highlights project and export as a .4mv movie EVEN THOUGH the earlier large .dv files are no longer on my internal HD, OR does my iMac need to have all these larger files loaded on my internal HD for me to eventually export each of my kid's Highlights project to a .4mv movie?
I have a 2011 era 27" iMac desktop w 2Tb HD internal and 250 Gb flash drive, and Lion OSX and iMovie 11.

Thanks. I tested it out and you were correct. I loaded 2 .dv movies from my external HD back onto my internal HD, and got them re-imported into iMovie, took a few short clips from each of the 2 iMovie events and pasted them into a new project in the Project Browser. Then I deleted these 2  "source clips" from my internal HD, closed iMovie and then re-opened it and found that iMovie would NOT export the smaller clips for a "highlights" .4mv movie without the "source clips" being available.
I read your link on Quicktime. It talks about mostly trimming, which is what I did with each iMovie event before I took each one as a project to export as a smaller .4mv file. But if I use Quicktime (do I need QT Pro or basic), what advantage is it to me to use QT over iMovie (I must admit I am a novice at iMovie and have never used QT or QT Pro as a tool)? Will it then convert any edits I make to a .m4v movie or do I need iMovie to do that?
Does QT allow trimming multiple segments out of a movie during one edit session, or can you only do 1 at a time? By that I mean that, for example, when I use Sonys Picture Motion Browser for my .mts movies, you can only set one Start and one End point for each edit/trim you do: it does not allow you to set multiple Start Stop points like iMovie allows in its Event or Project browser. You can only do one "trim" at a time, save it and then reopen to do another trim. not very useful.

  • How do I import video clips from iPhoto if it doesn't recognize the video clips in iMoive

I'm trying to make a movie using iMovie and I recorded some clips using a Sony Digital Camera and iMovie won't let me upload the video clips from iPhoto. I try to import them but when i try to click on the file, it won't let me. Like its not bold like other files (It will let me upload video that were taken with my iPhone) I have iMovie 09.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks!
    Ayca

Do you plan to put each video clip in iDVD to be playes separately?  If so then here's how:
1 - open iDVD and select your theme.
2 - click on the Media button at the bottom right and then on the Photo button at the top.
3 - in the search window type in ".mov" (or the extension of the video clips you plan to use).
4 - all of the video clips with the extension you entered will be displayed and you can drag them into the menu area at the left.
Another way would be to put all of the video clips in an Album and click on that album to view and drag the clips:
Remember, the order that they are added to the menu will be the order that the buttons will highlight when you scroll thru the buttons with a DVD player remote.
This will give you a menu with a separate button for each video clip (up to 12 in a menu with some themes).
If you want to play all of the clips one after another you could create a slideshow in iDVD with the "+" button at the bottom and drag the video clips into the slideshow as you would still photos.  Set the slide duration to anything but manual and don't apply any transition.
That will let you play all of the clips sequentially.

  • I cannot export a slideshow from Iphoto to iTunes

I am trying to export a slideshow from iphoto to itunes so that I can burn it to a dvd.  The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.

You are asking about a slideshow in iPhoto on your Mac, right? Then the iLife > iPhoto forum would have been the right one to ask your question. This forum is for iPhoto on IOS devices.
The automatically sent to itunes is checked but the export button is not highlighted.
The "Export" button will become active, when you select a size for your exported movie. Press one of the sizes , for example "Large", if you want to view the movie on your iPad or Apple TV.

  • How can I export trimmed video clips from iPhoto?

I have video clips from a kid's sporting event that I need to send to other parents on the team. I've got 73 clips that have been loaded from an SD card, and I've trimmed the length on about half of them.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to export them from iPhoto. When I select 'Original', I get the full-size files, but they're not trimmed. I can drag and drop the clips from iPhoto to a folder, and I do get files that are trimmed correctly, but they're very small (around 12K), so I'm guessing that they link to files on my own hard drive, and won't work if I send them to somebody else.
I am guessing that I could fix the problem manually by making a list of videos that I trimmed, opening each one of the 12K files files in QT Player, and saving that movie. This creates a full-size movie file which is the right file size for the trimmed portion. However, I'd like to be able to do all of this in a single batch operation. Is there a solution for this?

You can't. Trimming inside iPhoto stays inside iPhoto. (Does that have a familiar ring to it?)  All trimming must be done outside of iPhoto with Quicktime Player.  So export the clips to a folder on the Desktop and do the trimming there.

  • How to import selected clips from iPhotos?

When you open iMovie, it asks you to sync movies from your iPhotos. The problem is it takes every single clips from iPhotos and import them. Take too long and more difficult to work since there clips in there you don't want on the new project.
Is there a way to pick and choose which clip to import directly from iPhoto?
(Beside you have to copy the particular clip(s) to a folder and manually import it)

    Ah but it does work!
Yes, emptying the trash in iMovie 6 does remove a Media file if NO REMAINING CLIP relies on that file. So if you imported some clips and discarded them, their Media files would be discarded when you emptied the trash, reducing the size of the project. That's because No OTHER clip needed those files.
But if you had split each of the clips in half that you imported, then discarded the second half of each, no reduction in size would have occurred when you emptied the trash.
Unlike iMovie 4, iMovie 6 never removes just a PORTION of a Media file (the source file for a clip, stored in the Media folder inside the project). So if a Media file contains 30 minutes of video that you split at 1 minute, then discard the remaining 29 minute clip, the entire 30 minutes is retained by iMovie. The 30 minute Media file is never reduced in size. That's so iMovie's non-destructive editing feature can restore your one minute clip to its original length.
So the rule is that a Media file is discarded only when you discard the LAST clip using that file.
    Try it!

  • Adding clips from iPhoto?

How do I add video clips from iPhoto to iMovie, clips dont show in iMovie with message "no matching clips" even though the video clips work fine in iPhoto?

I ran into the same problem with importing from my digital camera a Quicktime movie. Here's the solution:
In summary, if you don't have a DV camcorder, you need to buy Quicktime Pro, convert your .mov file into DV and then edit in iMovie and then convert it back into .mov to display. Kind of odd, but it does work.
Just thought I'd let anyone else out there having the same problem know. The site where you can find the instructions to do so is here:
