Movies & Video, copy or move?

Hi
I have a lot of videos and some movies that I want to sync to my iPad and iPhone. When I move them to iTunes, can I delete the original files and still have them working on iTunes to save space?? Also, do i have to put to formats in iTunes of each file, one for iPad, and one for iPhone, or I put the same file and it automatically fits the iPad version on the iPhone?

Unfortunately, copying or moving a layer from one file to another is currently not supported in Ideas.
As for going about making a feature request, you've just done it. Our product management reads these forums to help prioritize work for future releases.

Specific videos copy to iPhone not working why?

There are a series of long YouTube videos that I would like to save, and later copy to my iPhone for permanent keeping.
I used TubeTV to download the videos, and set it to convert them to iPhone format. It did so, and I imported them into iTunes, where they play fine. I then dragged them into a "Video Copy To iPhone" playlist that contains several videos I want synced with my iPhone.
After syncing, those videos do not get transferred.
I wondered if there was something funny about the TubeTV destination format, so I used iTunes's menu option to "Convert for iPhone/iPod" then, after those conversions were done, dragged the new copies into that playlist, and synced. The videos STILL do not sync.
Other videos in that playlist do sync fine.
Any ideas?
(BTW, I moved the videos into the Air Sharing app, and they play fine in there, so it's not like they are incompatible with the iPhone.)

Sboq solved it -- I didn't know that only TV shows (not movies) can be synced via playlists.
Grrrrr...it's frustrating that there are so many hidden rules like this that aren't obvious. Theoretically, if I create a playlist called "Video Sync To iPhone" and tell it to always sync this playlist with my iPhone, what does it matter if it's a movie vs. a TV show...?
Anyway, thank you -- switching this YouTube video to a TV show (instead of a movie, the default) caused it to sync the way I wanted it to.

Video copied to DVD doesn't match project I can see

Okay,
Probably another basic question but I can't find an answer in the Adobe manual. I just discovered (after burning 8 copies of the same file) that the movie on the DVD doesn't match what I see in the Project screen. The dropdown of the Organize>Project looks like what I want to see except that it seems to have the original avi file that I subsequently edited as well as the edited file. The sceneline looks correct. The timeline looks correct. I have tried eliminating the "markers" but there weren't any to eliminate - the menu drop down only gave me the option to add markers. One hint is that the DVD is picking up a menu template that I was playing with but couldn't get to work and then deleted. I ended up using the very basic title screen with black video from the top line Title dropdown menu instead of the Template option in Edit. I can see the new title in scene and timelines. Again, per previous question just posted, I see nothing in the clip screen
(i.e. th boxes) under "organize". Also, the video clip on the DVD appears truncated by approx. half the play time.
At one point I could get only the old menu template clip to show up just below the montor screen but couldn't figure out how to delete.

Camcorder is a Sony Handcam D8 Digital Video, not minidvd. Tape was transferred using Adobe Premiere elements 9 with brand new firewire.
First screen capture below shows only one of two black screen titles upon opening program. Nothing in media boxes. Second Capture shows frame of video clip as a result of double clicking on the third sceneline box. Third screen capture shows what the DVD opens with when played after burning. I have tried to create this from scratch but can't get rid of the fancy menu screen in the third screen capture below. Replaying the movie using the sceneline or timeline prior to burning the DVD doesn't show the "fancy picture frame" with the "play movie" option shown in the dvd playing in the third capture below. Does this help? It seems to be something like an invisible preset that I can't get rid of.

Video copied from iphone 4 will not play

When I use the windows photo and video transfer to copy a video from my iphone 4 I get a 1mb file and an error saying the file cannot be played, no matter which media player I try to use.
I am unable to copy the file directly from the folder inside the phone. I simply get a 256kb file that does nothing.
I'm using Windows 7 pro 64 bit and an iPhone 4 with all the updates.
The videos I record play fine on the phone and I can email the video to myself and that plays fine on my computer however the quality is massively reduced using that method.
Any reason why the transfer doesn't work and why I can't simply copy right off the phone to my machine? I've rebooted both devices and it still does not work.

At least I'm not the only one with the issue. I was looking it up so see if others had the same problem and found a bunch of posts about it. I'm assuming it's not the phone then, it's the software. Should I bring it to the Apple Store? Replacing the phone seems stupid, because the phone isn't really the problem. It's the software! Maybe the iOS 5.0.2 will fix it??? I don't really want to wait though, it's a pain. If a lot of people have this issue it should get Apple's attention. They need to do something to fix it, ASAP!

Unable to see videos copied into sd card

Yesterday I had copied videos from my laptop to my Lumia 1320 sd card and was able to see it. However today I observed message that sd card may be having some problem,connect it to pc to fix the problem.
Later on when I tried to watch videos from sd card, I noticed that those videos were not there.
I dont know what went wrong & I lost my videos.
Can somebody help me to tesolve this issue?

Hi, saiprasad3776. What's the exact error message? Can you still view your files when you connect your SD card to your computer? You can also try to use another SD card onto your Lumia 1320 to further isolate the issue. Let us know the outcome.

Video copying problems

A few weeks ago I bought and episode of Scrubs from the iTunes store. It is the correct format for iPod, however, when I try to copy it to my 160G Classic, I get the "this video was not copied because it cannot be played on this iPod message". Apple's only support for this issue is that the video is not the correct format for iPod, and to go to the Advanced menu and choose "convert for iPod". That option is not there because I bought the video from iTunes and it is already the correct format. Does anyone have any idea why it won't copy? Thanks for any help.

Watching movie files on ipad just with the connection kit

Hello everybody. A simple question. Can I watch movies on the ipad 2 only with the connection of an usb stick? Or have I copy the file on the ipad 2 to watch the movie? Thanks

The kit is aimed at copying content from digital cameras, so it only copies into the Photos app, not into the Videos app. I've just tried it with a couple of videos via the CCK - an MP4 video copied into the Photos app and played there, an M4V originally downloaded from iTunes copied into Photos but won't play there (plays ok when synced from my computer into the Videos app).
The supported video formats on the iPad are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :

Unable to copy videos to iPhone

Background:
Computer OS: Windows 7
iTunes version: 12.0.1.26
iPhone: 5s
iPhone OS: 8.1
For years, I've enjoyed using my iPhone to play videos copied from my computer. My process has been as follows:
1) Copy videos from DVDs I own to my computer.
2) Convert with Handbrake using the iPhone & iPod Touch profile (the iPhone 4 results in unnecessarily large files).
3) Use iTunes to drag and drop the videos to my iPhone. I do not, nor do I with to use "syncing," since these are videos I watch once, then delete.
4) Edit the properties of the videos; change the type to "TV Program" so that all episodes are grouped into "folders" based on the name of the show.
5) Enjoy the show during my train commute, and delete.
This process has worked for me for years with no problem whatsoever. Then I upgraded from iOS7 to iOS8, which in turn forced me to upgrade my iTunes.
Now, when I drag the video files to my phone, the pointer icon says "Link" rather than copy. Through trial-and-error, I discovered that if I hold down the ALT button while dragging, it changes to "Copy" which sounds more promising. The videos appear to copy - but when I tried playing them, the video playback interface would display for an instant - and then I'd be back at the list of videos, with an odd "loading" icon on the right - the round icon one sees when downloading an app.
Does anyone know how I can go back to my routine process for copying videos to my iPhone? Any help would be most appreciated.

Just a bit more info... I tried using MediaMonkey to get around the whole iTunes problem. Using MediaMonkey, it appears that I can copy the videos - but I cannot categorize them. They're all "movies." And if I try recategorizing them in iTunes, all of the attribute fields are grayed out.
Also, when playing back these videos, the pause controls work - but the fast-forward and fast-rewind buttons are non-functional.
Meanwhile, videos that happened to be on the device when I performed the upgrade to iOS8 work flawlessly.

How do I batch convert 700 sequences to .mov and .mv4 files?

I have 700 separate sequences in FCP. Each one is 20-30 seconds long. I need to rename them and convert them to .mov files and then also .m4v files?
Is there an easy way to batch this or do I have to do them one by one by one by one..........

Try using the *Export Queue* (in FCP click Window > Export Queue).
1. Once the window is open, in the Browser window, highlight the sequences you wish to export.
2. Click and drag them into the *Export Queue* window. You should see a folder called +Batch 1+, with all your sequences.
3. Click on the +Batch 1+ folder and press the Settings... button at the bottom of the window.
4. Set your output destination.
5. To export full res, the format should be *QuickTime Movie*, and the settings should be *Item Settings*.
6. Include *Audio and Video*, or *Video Only*, depending on what you need.
7. Check the *Make Self-Contained* check box.
If your sequences are NTSC DV, to export .m4v you will want to use Compressor 2, so that you can fix the aspect ratio (NTSC is 720x480 while the iPod size is 640x480 or 320x240. This is the difference between square and rectangular pixels.).
1. In the *Compressor Preset* window, find the +iPod Video+ folder, and the +iPod Video+ preset inside the folder.
2. Click the preset and press the *Duplicate Selected Setting* button at the top of the window. A setting called +iPod Video-Copy+ should appear in your Custom folder.
3. Click on your new setting.
4. In the Inspector window, use the 6 buttons to change the settings to what you need.
5. Make sure in the Encoder section, that you choose your size (640 VGA or 320 QVGA) and pick the proper aspect ratio (4:3).
6. Save your settings.
7. Drag the full res files you exported from FCP into the Batch window. *Select All* (Command + A).
8. Right-click in the Setting column and choose your +iPod Video-Copy+. It will apply that setting to all your videos (it may take a while depending on how many you do at once.)
9. Save your batch.
10. Submit!
For renaming, you might try an Automator script. Search the forums or Google, if you need help with that!

You are prevented from Airplay mirroring certain things like DVD content as the material is usually protected so you get a checkerboard type display. I think there is a theoretical risk that the Airplay stream could be intercepted and the protected video copied, albeitin lower quality.
Apple may be being cautious or are required to do so with the DVD player app by movie studios/licensing authorities. It makes no sense to the average consumer who is just trying to send their purchased DVD to the TV via the computer and AppleTV.
Playback in something like VLC should work - not tried it myself but others have commented it doesn't have the restriction.

Copying videos back from Iphone 4 to laptop

I have few videos that were copied to Iphone through iTunes using my laptop. Now the laptop HDD is gone bad and i had replaced with a new one. I want those videos copied back to my laptop from IPhone. How do i do that.

I manually copy/pasted my pictures and videos from my iphone into my computer. No problem coping, however videos copied into my computer as icons with quicktime face on them. I can't tell which videos is what! How can I change the face of the icons from quicktime logo to initial pictures of the videos? I thought this may be hapenning because I don't have a MAC, but when I view my videos via iphone icon in the computer, face of the videos are all there and normal. So, I guess the issue is not the type of the computer.

OK, this seems the closest thread to what's going on here. I've got a late-2008 Macbook Pro, 10.5.8. Icons on the desktop and in finder windows are showing generic icons instead of the application-specific ones. Funny thing is, if I do a relaunch of the Finder (option-click/hold Finder icon in dock to bring up the menu), the specific icons will show up, but after a second or two will switch back to the generic ones. ??

Copying dvd disc of old video material

I have put some old kids video programmes onto a DVD from old video tape (pal-uk) (via a DVD/video recorder) but when i try and copy the DVD in Toast on my mac (from my installed phillips i think DVD burner installed) it does not recognize the disc.Has anyone got any ideas how I could get it to recognize the dvd disc (DVD+R) so I could do copys of it which would save me having to re-copy all the kids videoa onto another DVD. I realise that I may have to rip it first with mac the ripper-but as it wont recognize the disc can not even attempt to do that-and not sure if would need to as it is only a copy of a video ? I know you can get video copying hardware/software like Canopus-is this the only way i could put in old videos which i could then put onto DVD and copy susscessfully?

Sounds like you may have burned a session onto dvd without finalizing the media. I have a Daewoo DVD Recorder that can do this as well to DVD-RW media (Fuji/Pioneer Ver. 1.1) I'm not sure MTR would help in this situation (it may or may not). You could also try Handbrake and see if that works. Or you could approach it via a meida converter box like a canopus analog to digital converter box. Like this:

Can't play video when it's type "TV Show"

I've got some videos copied from TV show DVDs. They sync to the iPhone OK, but if I have them set as type "TV Show" in the Get Info tag, they don't show up in video. If I go in iTunes and change the type to "Movie" they suddenly appear and play fine. If I go to the search page on the phone I can find the TV shows I've uploaded, but when I select them the Video app quickly snaps back to the empty show list. Obviously I can sync just as a Movie, but this makes organizing the shows a lot more difficult (especially since the Movie view doesn't display the title wide enough for me to see the episode number).

Videos - How to save changes made via Adjustments?

The new video features: Great!
I tried CTRL+S to save changes (changed Exposure to totally black for testing) to my .MOV video file - however, the file is unchanced. I'm guessing the adjustments are still just sitting in my Lightroom catalogue.
Is the correct way to export the video and re-encode it then?
If export is the only way - shouldn't there be some "save" function? I never trust the Lightroom catalogue to always keep all changes, I always do some CTRL+A, CTRL+S to save the changes to the files, so they are hardwired - would I have to export the videos, copy them back to the original folder and delete the original videos?

You cannot save changes to the video files as you can do with photo files.
In this case, everything is saved in the catalog, and you will need to export to render the video.
However, it is generally admitted that the catalog is a safer place to record changes, compared to individual files, and it is also easier to backup.
