Moving a class into a package?
hi,
is there a way through which I can move an existing class inside a newly created package?
Best Regards,
Tarun
Hi Tarun,
Go to se80.
Give your classname by chosing the Class/Interface from the list box.
Then right click on the class->Other Functions->Change Package Assignment.
Then click on the pecil button to go to the cjhange mode. Give the name of the new package in place of the old.
Regards,
Ravi

Question regarding palcing cache related classes into a package
Hi all,
I have a question regarding placing classes into packages. Actually I am writing cache feature which caches the results which were evaluated previously. Since it is a cache, I don't want to expose it outside because it is only for internal purpose. I have 10 classes related to this cache feature. All of them are used by cache manager (the manager class which manages cache) only. So I thought it would make sense if I keep all the classes into a separate package.
But the problem I have is, since the cache related classes are not exposed outside so I can't make them public. If they are not public I can't access them in the other packages of my code. I can't either make it public or private. Can someone suggest a solution for my problem?haki2 wrote:

As far as I understand, the only class that other code needs to access is the cache manager. That one must be public. All other classes can be package-private (a.k.a default access). This way they can access each other and the cache manager can access them, but other code can't. -
Moving Bean-class to different package
Hi,
For deployment reasons i need the Bean-class in a different package, seperated from package where the Remote and Home are located. I'm not sure how to do this in VisualAge 3.5p2. Simply moving doesn't work.
Hope someone can help,
MaartenIt sounds a little bit strange. Do you want them in packages with different names, like you have bean-class in com.mycompany.project1.mybeanclasses and have the Remote and Home classes in com.mycompany.project2.myremotehomeclasses? It seems possible if you right-click the class you want to move and select 'move', you can move it to a new package. This will be able to separate them.
Just curious, I think VAJ is very powerful concerning deploying EJBs already so what kind situation makes you want to separate the bean-class and interfaces?

Problem puting class into a package
I have the following two *.java files:
Chess.java
package chessgame;
public abstract class Chess{
Rook.java
package chessgame;
class Rook{
Here's what I got from jdk:
G:\java\ChessGame>javac Chess.java
G:\java\ChessGame>javac Rook.java
Rook.java:3: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : class Chess
location: class chinesechess.Rook
public class Rook extends Chess{.......
What may be wrong? I do put the "package chessgame;" on the beginning of each *.java fiels.G:\java\ChessGame>javac Chess.java
G:\java\ChessGame>javac Rook.java
Rook.java:3: cannot resolve symbol
symbol : class Chess
location: class chinesechess.Rook
public class Rook extends Chess{.......
Actually, to do it right you should be compiling with
G:\java\>javac chessgame/Chess.java
and
G:\java\>javac chessgame/Rook.java
(or alternatively G:\java\chessgame>javac -d . *.java)
This is explained with more detail in the document [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/tooldocs/windows/classpath.html]Setting The Classpath.
Also, your package is called "chessgame" but the directory name seems to be "ChessGame", that might cause problems because java is case sensitive...
Your classpath should be fine if you haven't touched it, but if you are in doubt use "-classpath ." in the above commands. -
Moving Model Class to different package
Hi,
How can i move the model class to a different package in CE 7.1
Regards,
SenthilHi Senthil
I thinks this should be possible to realize on the file system level.
- Find the folder where your model as well as the model classes are located.
- Search for all files (.) that contain the model class name. Typically it'll find (*.wdmodel and *.wdmodellclass). Change manually the package name within/near the found lines.
But why do you need to change the model class package separately from the model package?

Importing a .class file into my package?
Hi. I'm making a java program but I need to use an external .class file to get variables and use methods from. Is it possible to "import" a class file into my package to be able to do so?
ThanksBasically, for our last project we created a class
that held the information about a year: how many days
were in a month, how many months were in a year, etc.
etc. For this project, we'll be having to use that
same class to make a GUI calendar. Our teacher
provided a class which he compiled for us to use in
our projects incase our previous class had some flaws
in it, which mine did. Unfortunately, it's in .class
format and I don't know how to use it in my package!That's going to be a problem then. I would assume that it is going to have an API like your old one did. Same name and same methods etc. So do you know what the name and method signatures of your class were supposed to be? -
How to organize j2me classes into packages?
Hello!
I'm using Wireless Toolkit 2.5.2 and I have got a question about it.
Does anybody know, how to organize j2me classes into packages?
As far as I know, all source files should be placed inside WTK_home_directory\apps\my_project\src folder.
Although it is possible to create arbitrary folder structure (for example, src\com\my_company\www\my_package) and successfully compile the project,
it's not possible to run it on the emulator or any target device. Trying to do it, I get ClassNotFound exception.
It's not surprisingly, because virtual machine on the device doesn't know, where to look for desired classes.
So the question is how to add new entries to the device classpath (of course, if it exists)?
And is it possible to configure it through application descriptor (jad) file somehow?
Any ideas, references, descriptions?
Thanks in advance,
A.Hello!
So, I have found the solution and this question is not actual any more.
The solution is quite simple - you have to properly configure application jad-file.
It can be done like this (in ktoolbar):
1. Open project settings from main menu (Project - Settings).
2. Then go to MIDlets tab.
3. There you have to change value in "*class*" column (for example, to smth like this - com.my_company.www.my_package.my_midlet_class_name).
4. Press Ok button.
Having done these steps, you will be able to have any package structure you need
(because after it AMS on the device will know where to look for your application class files).

How can I split a class into 2 files?
I converted a C++ program to Java recently and it works fine, but I ran into a problem.
One file is very large and I need to add more functionality. Unlike with C++ where you can just put new functions in another file, I don't see a way to do it in Java.
I made another file, and therefore another class, but the compiler complains that it can't call a static function from non-static context. (I did not declare it static so I guess it's assuming it) But I understand why. So I made the new class "extend" the old one so "this" would exist but that doesn't work -- Is it because the new class is a subclass of the original class?
There must be a way to do this. But I don't see what is likely obvious. HELP! And thanks.JavaIsBetterThanCPP wrote:
There must be a way to do this. But I don't see what is likely obvious. HELP! And thanks.Unfortunately Java has no concept of "partial classes" like C# has. Generally, however, a class that is large enough to split up into separate files is either one class that should be modularized further into separate classes, or it already is modularized and all that code is the result of many inner classes. What some people do is promote those inner classes to top-level members in their own file, and mark them as package-private. Using a package you can basically have two classes that know everything about each other and have full access to each other.
But personally, and until I see justification otherwise, semantics in Java being unbreakingly tied to a certain file structure and naming is the most bonehead and, frankly, non-Java thing about Java.
There's probably a pre-processor out there that will let you split a class into multiple files and will combine them into a single source file just-in-time to pass to the compiler. -
Importing Custom Classes into a JSP page
Hello,
I have created custom package com.srjgroup.report. It sits in C:\workspace\src\com\srjgroup\report directory. I have java files as well as compiled classes there. No jar files there.
did amend classpath to point to this directory.
In my JSP page I have the import statement as following
import="java.sql.*, java.util.*, java.text.SimpleDateFormat, com.srjgroup.report.*"It imports all the packages without any errors. However, when I try to use one of the classes in the package, I get error
org.apache.jasper.JasperException: Unable to compile class for JSP
An error occurred at line: 3 in the jsp file: /SQLServer.jsp
Generated servlet error:
SRJReports cannot be resolved to a type
SRJReports is one of the classes that I am trying to use in that package. When I comment out all references to the class, everything is fine.
So, to fix this I moved the entire package to
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib direcory, preserving the hierarhy. So, now my custom package is located here:
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib\com\srjgroup\report again there are no jar files, only java and classes here. Still, no go.
What am I doing wrong ?Put the class in
C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.5\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\classes\com\srjgroup\report
One more thing, there is no subdirectory in lib directory. You may look at the example within tomcat for reference. I start from there. -
Import CLASS with no package name in VAJ
IMport statement in VAJ for .class (no source and No package specified in the class) goes always to the "default package". Is there any way how to:
1. change package in existing class wihout source
2. do the "package naming" when the class is imported ?
3. refer this "default package" by import statement ?(it has no valid name , of course)
I have tried whatever, but ...? I know, this question was already here in forum at 2001, but, nobody responded ... tks //petrThere is no way of doing it to the class file. Class files cannot be compiled and therefore cannot be changed.
You could download a decompiler which gives decompiles the class into a .java file. Then edit that java file to move the class.

Import my own class into servlet problem
Hello, everyone.. I fail to import java classes that i create myself into the servlet. I wonder what is the problem. I would feel grateful if anyone can solve my problem. I noe that if it is in the package let say myclass , C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.29\webapps\lis\WEB-INF\classes\myclass. It will be
package myclass;
import myclass.*;
But, I put all my class file into below directory not in a package.
C:\jakarta-tomcat-4.1.29\webapps\lis\WEB-INF\classes
and i wish to include let say DBManager.class file into Login.class file which in in the same directory as above. What is the correct code i should put? Thanks for anyone who willing to help me out ~You don't need to import classes from the same package. They are automatically available in the same namespace. Just use them.
package myclasses;
import myclasses.*; // this line does nothing
import myctherclasses.*; // this line is necessary to use classes from another package.Having said that though, it is always preferable to put your classes in a package. Classes in the "unnamed" package are not guarunteed to be available anymore.
Particularly servlet classes which are not in a package aren't found by Tomcat.
In short: always put your classes into packages.
Cheers,
evnafets
