Moving average issue

I found the moving average of material display on mm03 is wrong, I've found that the material ever changed the cost through mr21 on 10/2008, this is correct. But current period is incorrect 02/2009. And after 10.2008, there have two goods receipts, but the price is OK, the moving average should be no problem, but why the moving average is incorrect. Thanks!

And I found there have a "RE" type of document in MR51. the posting date is 31.12.2008. the amount exactly same as the total value in MM03. What's wrong. Thanks!

  • Moving Average price issue

    Hello Experts,
My client one Semi Finished material maintained Price Control as S (Standard) with 13.5 and accounting documents posted with 13.5 only with standard price no issues and working fine. Now the issue is MAP (Moving Average Price) updated for the same Semi Finished material with 4860, I don't know how this figure has arraived. when I check in material master records no one updated manually. Now my client's finance controller is asking how that figure (4860) arrived ?.
I have checked in MSEG table and it updated the same 4860 only but material document posted with standard price only. I couldn't figure out how system arrived this amount (4860) ?,
it would be great helpful if you can through some light on this issue.

    Dear Srinivasa,
    Kindly check follwing things
    1) Whether the material has got any goods receipt with higher value.
    2) Whether the Future price is maintained for the material  in Material master - Accounting view, with higher value and its validity
    3) Check the changes happened in past related to MAP, in Material master MM03-> Display changes.

  • Material Costing: Moving Average Price Issue

    Hi Experts,
I have a issue regarding the Moving Average Price of the Material computed by the system (indent sales process):
The Material was created with Purchased Price .74PO Price x 10 items = 7.4 Amt in LC Posted into the system (PGR).
But afterwards, they reversed the Material Document with the same Price .74PO Price x 10 items.
This had been done last 2009.
Come 2011, they created another indent sale -> PO ->PGR for this material, now the price is .12 PO Price x 10 items = 1.2 Amt in LC Posted. However, the moving average price was computed 0.77
How does the system comes up with this computation? Is there inconsistencies in the system?

Thanks @jurgen. I checked-double-checked in MR21, there are no change documents under the material.
in MR51, added one Issue Document:

  • Exponential Moving Average - EMA - in PowerPivot

    Hello All
We´re having a challenge trying to put the [20] (trading days) Exponential Moving Average (EMA) in our data model in PowerPivot.
Here is the EMA formula and sample spreadsheet:
    http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school:technical_indicators:moving_averages
Pasted the formula here for convenience:
SMA (simple moving average): [10] period sum / [10]
    Multiplier: 2 / ([Time period] + 1) )
    EMA: {Close - EMA(previous day)} x multiplier + EMA(previous day).
    Sample spreadsheet
    http://stockcharts.com/school/data/media/chart_school/technical_indicators_and_overlays/moving_averages/cs-movavg.xls
In our model the fact table have these columns:
Symbol Date Open High Low Close Volume
And in the Calendar table we´ve identified the trading days (Calendar[TradingDayNumber]) as 1 so we can count them back.
We want the EMA calculated field in a pivot table like this
Filter context: a date selected on Calendar[FullDate]
    Row context: FactTable[Symbol]
    Values: FactTable[Close]
        FactTable[EMA 20D] >> Missing
So far we got these calculated fields:
    Period
    =20
    Ema Multiplier
    =2 / ([Period] + 1)
    Average 20D CLOSE
    =IF([Sum of CLOSE]=BLANK(),BLANK(),(CALCULATE(AVERAGE(FactTable[CLOSE]),FILTER(ALL(Calendar),Calendar[TradingDayNumber]<=MAX(Calendar[TradingDayNumber]) && Calendar[TradingDayNumber]>MAX(Calendar[TradingDayNumber])-[Period]))))
But it looks like the EMA formula contains a self reference from previous values, and it also starts from a SMA (Average 20D CLOSE) value.
    How can we do it?
Thanks in advance. I highly appreciate your support.

  • Updation of Moving Average Price

    Dear Experts,
My MM period is open for 2 months (i.e for July and August Now) . One of our raw material is Limestone.
From July 1st there were several Receipts and Issues of limestone in SAP.
In August 9th our survey team found that in our stock we have 25000 TON limestone excess. (Due to Callibiration error)
i.e If the current stock in system was 10000  TON the real Physical stock in storage was 10000 + 25000 TON.
We have created a Free of Cost PO for 25000 TON to account the excess quantity of Limestone in Stock.
MIGO Goods Receipt for the Free of Cost PO was done on 31.07.2011.
Because of the extra 25000 TON Free of Cost Limestone Receipt the Moving Average Price of the Material got Updated. (But only from 09-August-2011 not from 31-July-2011)
I want system to calculate the new moving average price and update all the documents posted from 31-July-2011. MY MM period is not closed.
Is it possible to do so and how. Please Help.
    Thanks

    Hi
The physical inventory is carried out on the basis of stock management units.A stock management unit is a non-divisible part of a stock of materials for which a seperate book inventory exists.A stock management unit is uniquely defined by
    Material
    Plant,storage location
    Stock type
    Batch
    Special Stock
Each stock management unit of a material is counted seperately, and the inventory diffreneces are posted per stock management unit.
The physical inventory process comprises three phases
    1)Creation of physical inventory documents(MI01)
    2)Entry of Count(MI04)
    3)Posting the difference(MI07)
1)In the first phase ,you create the physical inventory documents.SAP systems provide several procedures for mass-generation of PI documents. After selecting the stocks to be counted and creating the PI documents, you print out the documents in order to start the counting process.A physical inventory document cotains data that include
    >The plant and storage location in which the count has to take place
    >The date on which the count has to take place
    >The materials to be counted
    >the stock types to be counted
    >The status of the item
    >The status of the PI document
When creating a PI document, you can specify a physical inventory nuber in the document header. This physical inventory number facilitates selection of the PI documents to be processed during entry of the count data, posting the diffrences, and in evaluations.
2)Entering the physical inventory count:For the physical inventory count, you must print out the PI document and forward it to persons responsible for the count. You can enter the stock figures in the system with and without reference to a PI document. When entering the physical inventory count, you can enter a percentage variance of the count quantity from the book inventory, above which the system issues a warning message.
3)You can post the inventory diffrences either via list of differences or via seperate transactions. When an inventory difference is posted, the system creates a material document and corrects the stock figures, and an accounting document recording the necessary accounting movements.
Hope this will be helpful for you.

  • Moving Average Price tolerances for intercompany transfers

We are looking to utilize the tolerance limit settings for GR's to prevent entry mistakes from affecting moving average prices severly.  I have sucessfully tested this process by triggering a warning/error message at the time of a goods receipt, but have been unable to trigger a warning/error for intercompany transfers.
Is this configuration in the OMC0 settings, in config, or somewhere else?
Thanks very much for any feedback.
    Matt

    HI Jurgen,
    Thanks for your reply.
    1. We have maintained the price control as V
    2. You have mentioned "However it is as well possible to enter an external value in the movement (if enabled in customizing). then the movement is valuated with this value and the MAP in material master is adjusted."
Where to checl in IMG for the above ?
    3. We did goods issue in the previous period 12/2011 but doing the GR in current period 01/2012. Do we need to maintain MAP for both the periods ?
If you can please tell us what is the standard process to carry out such activity ?

  • Moving Average Price for Non-Valuated Material

    Hello Experts
The question may seem to be quirky but need your advice for the below.
My client is buying non-valuated material against a cost center, they do not want to keep the stocks valuated. No value update only quantity update. The accounting documents are the following when the GR is done by receiving folks
Qty of material XYZ goods receipted = 10
Debit     Consumption GL   12345678       10 USD          Cost Center ABC123 (This is a warehouse cost center)
    Credit    GR/IR account                            10 USD
Qty of mateiral XYZ issued = 5
The goods are later on issued to Production cost center and the client was the below entries to be passed with MOVING AVERAGE PRICE.
Debit    Consumption GL 12345678           6 USD          Cost Center ABC456 (This is production Cost center)
Credit   Consumption GL 12345678           6 USD          Cost Center ABC123 (This is warehouse cost center)
I am aware that as this is a non valuated material the above entry is not possible. Maybe, I will use BAPI_ACC_DOCUMENT_POST for the generating the accounting document when the goods are issued from warehosue to production center.
My question is how can i get the moving average price.
    Regards
    Chokkalingam Pillai

you can have an accounting view for non-valuated materials, this helps for example with purchase requisitions as they could take the valuation price from the material master and the user does not need to enter a valuation manually.
But the material master moving average  price cannot be calculated and updated automatically, as it is not foreseen in any standard program to do this for cost center procurement, since SAP only calculates a MAP for valuated stocks.
Further it is not logical to issue non-valuated stock valuated (even with a different price) from cost center to cost center.
It looks like you want to  have a kind of internal billing for warehouse services, as you end up with a negative amount in the warehouse cost center which is then the profit.
Why don't you just  create a report to run at the end of the month, listing all goods issue movements with their cost centers and taking the price from last PO (or from material master if you decide to maintain it manually) and use this for a manual cost center posting in CO module

  • Moving average price becomes negative

    Dear all,
I have read several threads about this subject but my scenario is a little bit different than the ones described so far:
    1 - I had a GR of 12 Tons for 2000 u20AC for material A
2 - Product A had several production consumptions (movement 261) with the correct MAP
3 - My user has accidently posted the invoice for 2000 u20AC, but for a quantity of 12 Kg. This caused a change in the moving average price, causing the following consumptions (261) to be wrong. This posting was done in January (already closed) but only detected now, unfortunately.
4 - We have found the message when the user detected the mistake and tried to cancel the invoice.
As we have dozens of consumptions of this product and dozens of sales orders of the finished product (for which product A was a component), I was thinking of making a value change in MR21 for component A, so that the following consumptions would be correct. And correct the MAP of the finished products, so that the cost of sales is corrected from now on.
I would also forget about canceling the invoice.
Can you tell me if this is the correct approach recommended by SAP? Has any of you faced similar issues that has a better solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    JL

Option 1 : You have to cancel all the documents last come First to Nullify the effect.( Which I feel the best practice may be bit tedious). And do the postings as required.
Option 2 : Do Manipulate with Movement type 561, means just Put 1 kg or .1 kg with very high value to mitigate the MAV value.
Option 3 : You can go for MR21.

    Hi Experts,
    i having one problem,
    i having material of ' A '  1392.5 Kg having moving average price of 6.52 $ per kg (as of  02.03.2009 ),
i issued goods to order on 17.03.2009 with movement type 261 of 233.60 Kg for 646.74 $
here new moving average which systems shows for material 'A' is 2.77
please explain why system shows new moving aveage price as 2.77, also why is not considering old values to calculate MAP(stock already present )
Also please explain what could be the possible reason for this error.

  • Moving average price not calculated properly

    Hi,
For a consumable material moving average price(MAP) is getting calculated wrongly.
There are 2 goods receipts taken in Jan'08 and Feb'08 at a unit price of 1250 and 1450 INR.
Then there are around 10 Goods issues for a cost centre, Mvt type 201 taken for next few months.
The MAP value has been calculated properly after the Goods issues.
Again there was a goods recipt in Oct'08 for 1275 INR.
The goods issue done in Nov'08 has created a problem and it has calculated  wronlgy i.e. instead of Rs. 800, the system has calculated issue price as Rs.3500.
No value has been changed in MR21. No PO's has been created between these days.
    Can anyone help us...??
    Regards,
    Ramya

    Hi Ramya,
You have informed in your thread that "for a consumable material..", If a material is procured for direct consumption, the consumption accounts in Financial Accounting are posted when the goods receipt is entered . The total quantity and value of existing stocks of the material are not affected. There is no Goods Issue.
Now, if you procure the material for stock, then changes in Material Valuation due to goods receipts and invoice receipts are carried out automatically (ofcourse manually also) when the relevant transaction is posted.
The extent to which the stock value changes depends on the sequence in which the goods receipts and invoice receipts are posted. The SAP System allows for both possibilities:
    - When goods are received before the invoice, the stipulations in the purchase order are used as the basis for posting.
    - When the invoice is received before the goods, the details on the invoice are used as the basis for posting.
So, please look into the Invoices and the relevant GR/IR clearing account details. You may get a clue there.

    Narayana.

  • Moving average price as price control in material master: Erroneous entries

    Dear All,
Recently we did a price control change from standard price to moving average price for one of our clients and scenario testing was done. We came across the following issue at the IR point and this error occur  time to time ( not for all POs )Following steps were followed
    Scenario
    1. Create a PO for 1000 Kg of material A @ 1USD
2.GR the purchase order- at this point correct values are passed to stock account
3.consumed 250 Kg from the above material and from the same batch- correct values are passed to the accounts correctly
4.invoice verification is done for the above PO with a price variance of 100 USD. The error occur at this time ( some times )
    Correct entry:
    Dr GR/IR account 1000
Dr Stock account 75 (Price variance is charged proportionately charge to the balance stock)
Dr price variance 25 (Price variance is charged proportionately on the consumed stock)
    Cr Vendor 1100
But sometimes the value does not pass accurately for the same PO. Accounting entries are as follows.
( this is same scenario with new purchase order with different master records )
    Dr GR/IR account 1000
Dr Stock account 100 (Total price variance is charged to the stock account and its incorrect this should be only 75 as explain above )
    Cr Vendor 1100
This error occurs sometimes even though the vendor master record and purchase orders are sand same as the time of pass correct entries  . All these time GR based invoice verification tick has activated in PO as well as vendor master .
    Appreciate your advice.

Thank you for the information. But this is not the  system behavior , system proportionately add the price variance to the stock qty which is remaining in the stock also it proportionately charge the price variance to the price variance account which is consumed before the invoice verification. But time to time it passes the incorrect entries.
    eg , Create a PO for 100KG @ 1USD
           GR                     100KG
           Consumed           25
IR , here we IR at higher value than the PO price
         PO value is USD 100
        IR    value    USD 100 + 12 = 112
Correct IR entry : Vendor              CR    112
                                 GR/IR                 Dr    100
Stock                 DR      8 ( 75% of the stk is reaming in stk so relevant variance is USD 8 )
Price variance   DR      4  ( 25% of the consumed , so relevant variance is USD 4 )
And this is accurate with accounting principles and standards .
Actually system correctly calculate the above entries  . but some times it pass the incorrect entry , this is my issue.
In the  erroneous entry it does not segregate the price variance , If we consider the same scenario as above at the time of erroneous entry the system pass entries as below:
                                Vendor              CR    112
                                 GR/IR                 Dr    100
Stock                 DR     12 ( add 100% which is incorrect )
    This is incorrect .

  • Moving average price calculation logic of material with Price Control "S"

    Dear Gurus,
As you know that there is a Moving price and standard price icon in the material master.
I want to understand the calculation logic of the moving average price of the materials having price control "S"
How the system calculates the MAP for standard price materials? The receipt from the process order I suppose is valuated at the process order cost after settlement, but if the issue has hapened for the material does the system recalculate the issue price also?
Below is the sample process order receipt and issue scenario:
    Receipt from process order 161000000223
300 kg and GR at standard cost value is Rs 5892
    Issue to process order 162000000294
250 kg and GI at standard cost value is Rs 4910.
Thus the balance at period end is 50 kg and balance at standard cost value is Rs 982.
Here in process order 161000000223 the actual cost is 10 Rs. Then how will the system calculate the MAP?
    Thanking You,
    Amit Dhanurdhari

    Hi
    Try the following calculations,
One of them will work depending upon your version and support pack
Expected MAP calculation ( As with price control V)
    = ((Qty before transaction*MAP + Transaction Qty * transaction
    Price)) / quantity after transaction
New Method ( when price control is S)
= Old MAP + (Price Variance w.r.t Standard Price/Qty after transaction)

  • Moving average price in Semifinished material.

    Dear All,
Our client wants to go for moving average price in case of semifinished material, which is supposed to be normally standard price. The problem is the MAP is not getting updated after the GR against the production order. What settings I need to check in cusomization from PP point of view to solve this problem. Ideally the summation of cost of raw materials has to be the cost of semifinished material.
did the settlement and the MAP got updated. There are few questions I want to ask u are?
    1. What MAP should I keep when I create the material for the first time?
    2. What the base to calculate the target cost in production order? Currently the target cost is zero for that the varience is hugh which will be going to affect the MAP in a big manner after setllement? What should I do in that case?
Ur valuable inputs are awaited at the earliest. It's urgent.

Kindly go thoroug following it will solve your issue
Genrally SAP suggest Std price for semi & fin
but some company are useing MAP so i think the client want  MAP then also it will not create any problem but this is laways FICO decision
now MAP is not getting updated
while goods movement system update G/L AC automatically the price used for updating the GL is either std or MAP depending on which is maintain in material master
your MAP will get updated only after settlement of Production order If your production is make to order in that case costing is against Sales order & no issue of settlemnt of Production order so MAP will not be updated in MTO
which price you should maintan in material master & target cost & variance
initally u upload master data with price 1 After that u take costestimate run & realse the price that will be std price Now you can see the varinace along
after realsing the cost estimate you can chane MAP in mr21/22
You can maintain both the prices in material master but while GL AC updating system check the price control & then pick price
but it is advisable to have STD PRICE

  • PROBLEM WITH MOVING AVERAGE PRICE

    Hi,
Correct me if I’m wrong, but from what I know the moving average price should only change or be recalculated when purchases or goods_recipts are made, otherwise items should be consumed at a FIXED moving average price (cost).
I´ve noticed when looking into the Inventory Audit Report that the moving average price is changing in my installations and I see that SAP BO recalculates it every time an issue is made. This last thing only happens when the total amount of the transaction is rounded or left with 0 decimals and the other types such as prices, rates, quantities, percent, etc. are left with 2 or 3 decimals.
Because of my country settings, the total amount has to have 0 decimals (I live in Chile and we don’t have cents in our currency) and the moving average price of an Item should not change when an issue is made, can you help me with this?
Thanks and best regards to you all.
    Fernando

    Hi Nagesh,
Thank you for your quick response.
I understand what you say, but moving average price should not change when an issue is made and that´s what is bothering us.
The difference between what it shoud be and what SAP BO is calculating is our concern, ie: let´s say the number of transactions is 100, would that difference be negligible?
    Here is an example:
    Goods issue:
    SO 8     11     -10,49     166,67     -1.748     99,35     16.559
    SO 9     11     -10,49     166,673     -1.748     88,86     14.811
    SO 10     11     -10,49     166,678     -1.748     78,37     13.063
    SO 11     11     -10,48     166,684     -1.747     67,89     11.316
    SO 12     11     -10,56     166,681     -1.760     57,33     9.556
Note that coma (,) is decimal separation and period (.) is the mile separator.
Where the 3rd line is the quantity of the goods issue, the 4th is the moving average, and the 5th is the total quantity of the issue.
So you see 10,49 x 1748 = 1748,39977= 1748(SAP) and then SAP BO recalculates the AVG. Price.
The problem I was talking about was the difference of the stock AVG Price with one hundred transactions or so... now the difference seems negligible (166,7 - 166,681 = 0,011).
Can you see it changes?, is that a bug?
    Thank you
    Fernando

    2. Was the invoice posed in advance to the goods receipt? - No. In fact invoices are still to be posted. However, there is an advance payment to the vendor. Not sure if this has anything to do?
