Moving Column Formats across Instances

Hi,
We have applied some column formats (Say number with 3 decimal places) to few colums using the "Save-as system wide default for <Column_name>" option. Our reports are grouped under one shared folder(SF1). Another team is developing reports for another subject area which are stored in separate shared folder(SF2). When we asked our Admin to move our catalog from Dev instance to Test instance, he moved it using web catalog manager. Only the SF1 folder was moved. With that it looks like all the formatting which was applied as system wide default has not been migrated. May be it is stored at a catalog level. What should I ask my Admin to migrate so that these system wide defaults are also get migrated. Also, we dont want to move anything from SF2 folder.
Thanks,
Vivek.

Hi Vivek,
Have him merge/copy the /system/metadata folder from the catalog.

  • Help require to migrate Report Manager(FSG)Excel Templates across Instances

In R12.1.3, we are creating new custom MS Excel templates for Standard FSG Reports.
We understand to create these templates with Report Manager using “Financial Report Template Editor”, edit them, download and upload back.
These templates created in Test Instance needs to be moved to multiple instances.
How can we migrate these custom Excel templates from one instance to another? , as when we select Oracle-->Upload from Excel template, it expects to upload back to the same instance where from it was downloaded originally, but our requirement is to migrate these templates across instances rather than to recreate it on each instance
Please suggest how to migrate these Excel templates from one instance to another.

  • Apply Number Format across Rows

Hi Experts - I need to apply the number format across rows. As a dimension I have a Bex Structure.
Negetive number should be in red and there is also a % rows , which should have 2 decimal places.
I need help how to fromat numbers across the rows while we have Bex structure in place.
    Structure      BUD     PF1     Total
    Amount--->     1000     -500.00     500.00
    % Amount-->5.00%     -15.00%     -10.00%
    Thanks
    R

    rohan1103,
Right click the column and apply conditional fromatting. Your negative numbers should follow a code like this.
    Negative; [Red](In square braces)(#,##0.00).
This will display any negative number in Red color.

  • Export in column format

    Dear Gurus,
What if i check the option export in column format while export the database?
    Thanks,
    Sekhar

    Hi,
    Adding to the John comments,
If you export the database in the column format the size of the export file will be much more than the data in the cubes.
I had an experience where I used to export the data in column format which results in a file which was
twice the size of the file without the column format.
If you have a lot of data in essbase cubes, I advice you to export data in non columnar format in order to save the disk space.

  • Spacing at the end of each column in 3 column format

I am copying text with footnotes from a word file into Pages. When the text is pasted into the three column format some of the columns are really short. They don't even make it half way to the start of the foot notes on the bottom of the page. How can I make the columns extend to the start of the foot notes on all of the pages? Please Help. Thank you.

No luck there- I had actually already tried that. The only thing that has worked so far, after many attempts, is to erase the footnotes and reinsert them. (So I'm guessing all the issues stem from pasting over from Word.) If there's an easier way, I'd love to find it since this is a rather long paper with lots of footnotes. (And I can't just leave the document in Word...based on my formatting tries and research, it's not even really capable of doing the footnotes the way I'd like them to be.)

  • PDF export for  columns formatted as HTML

    Hello,
I've created a report having some columns formatted as HTML .
in the PDF file exported from BI Answers dashboard, HTML tags are shown instead of formatted value.
(for example : "div style="width:100%;background-color:#FF3300">89.12%</div" instead of 89.92%)
Any ideas how to fix this ?
    BI version : 10.1.3.3.3
    Thank you.

    Hi dragosv,
I've also encountered similar problems to that. The OBIEE process does not first evaluate the code before it exports to other tools like PDF and Excel.
    Here are two options:
    1) Submit an SR to Oracle and have them declare it a bug
    2) Print to HTML first, then print the HTML to PDF. It adds a step but at least you can download your document the way you want.
    Best regards,

  • Newspaper style report (multiple column sets across the page)

    Hello,
I have an Answers report that displays the "top 20" and has only 2 narrow columns (name and total). So in the dashboard it looks like a long vertical strip:
    aaa 999
    aaa 999
    aaa 999
    aaa 999
It would look much nicer if it was a "newspaper style", where you have more than one column set across the page:
    aaa 999 | aaa 999
    aaa 999 | aaa 999
    aaa 999 | aaa 999
Is this possible to be done using OBI EE? I searched for a "newspaper style" checkbox in the report properties (hoping that it would be that easy) but no luck... I couldnt find any posts in this forum either, maybe I am using the wrong terminology.
    Thanks
    Luis

    Hi Luis,
yes, this is possible by using a pivot table. assuming you want 10 records per column, you need to do the following:
    1) add a column to your report with this formula:
    RCOUNT(Column) - 10 * FLOOR((RCOUNT(Column) - 1) / 10)
    2) add another column to your report with this formula:
    FLOOR((RCOUNT(Column) -1) / 10)
    3) go to pivot table
    4) add column 1) to Rows Section
    5) add column 2) to columns section
    6) add the other columns in measures box
    7) add aggregation rule to "FIRST" for all columns in measures box
    8) put measure label box in rows section under the box of column 2)

  • How do I maintain column formatting when converting from PDF to Excel?

How do I maintain column formatting when converting from PDF to Excel? All info is no longer on the lines or in the columns they started out being in? Any help would be appreciated.

    Sara,
Perhaps I am expecting too much from Adobe ExportPDF. The reason I subscribed to this service, for which I pay a yearly fee, was that I need a way to  convert scanned and digital documents to Word &/or Excel. I read the link you included but to be candid the more I tried to understand what was written the more confused I got. The process should not be this difficult. Currently I am using a NEAT scanner to create PDF documents of whatever I scan. After I changed the OCR setting on Adobe ExportPDF the output was much better but not to the point it was usable as it was. Information that appears to be lines and columns are sometimes not recognizing two columns and just putting them together in one. Obviously not usable. The other thing it does is bunch numbers that appear in a column that are just a bunch of numbers that I have no way of fixing.
Please let me speak to someone who can help me. Right now I not getting anything of value in my paid subscription.

  • Report Writer Row and Column Format

    Hi
Was wondering if there is a possible solution to this :-
Understand that column format is controlled by format groups. This means that all figures in the same column will take the same format (such as scaling and decimal place).
    Scenario is ->
Colunn #1 -> column set as displaying no decimal point
    Rev                  120
    OP                      5
OP margin %     4.2 -> how to set this to 1 decimal point. Any formula syntax that I can use?
    Regards.

    Hi Vinay,
Based on my research, freezing row and column headers are different in table and matrix.
In a table, if we want to freeze column header, we should make the changes in the first Static row group in Row Groups pane with Advanced Mode as you said. If we want to freeze row header, the table should have a group ahead, then we can enable “Repeat header
rows on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Row Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box.
In a matrix, if we want to freeze column header, we can enable “Repeat header columns on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Column Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box. If we want to freeze row header, we can enable “Repeat
header rows on each page” and “Keep header visible while scrolling” options in Row Headers in Tablix Properties dialog box.
    Hope this helps.

  • DataExport in Column Format

    Hi All
i am exporting BSO cube in column format . how can i change the column . for eg in sample basic when we do export in column format we get header as
"Sales" "COGS" "Marketing" "Payroll" "Misc" "Opening Inventory" "Additions" "Ending Inventory"
i want to changes these header to other dimension . can i do that ?
    thanks

This is a theory, I haven't seen it in writing in any official docs: Essbase seems to pick the smallest dim that is either time or measures for the data column headers. Again, a theory, and like any theory, could be full of holes.
Ultimately what I think you should strive for is to have the most dense dim in the columns.
As far as massaging the resulting file into a format you need for another system, you have your choice of a variety of ways, string mangling scripts, ETL tools, etc. Whatever is easier for you based on your skills is probably ok.

  • (BSO) export for lev0 member in column format

    Hi there,
Today I have made a (BSO) export for lev0 member in column format.(Choosed this options with the export routine)
What maked me wonder was that not only lev0 member are in the export file but also lev1 member.
Can someone explain why this happened.
    I'm on 9.2.1 on win32.
    Regards
    Andre

    Hi Glenn,
    Thank you for your response,
As you can see from the ess_lev0_exp_1.JPG outlined in the screen shot
that this >lev0-member has 18 children. So impl shared should not matter.
As as you can see from the ess_lev0_exp_2.JPG also these members are included in the export.
However, the dim "Konten" (Account) is set to dense.
The export options you can see in ess_lev0_exp_options.JPG.
I find that strange anyhow. Hmm...

  • EAS data export in column format question

I am trying to export data in column format and import back to replace 0 with #Missing. I want to see if it will reduce any blocks. When I export I am getting data header members from a different dimension other that Period. It is getting tricky to map these many data rows in rule file as oppose to 12 from Period.
What determines this behavior. I know I have tried in the past (different app) and Period came through as data header record.
    Any help is appreciated.

You can't directly control which dimension is selected (at least, not without changing your cube) in a native export.
However, for what you are doing, you do not need a load rule - you could just find-and-replace in the file.
You can also try converting zero to #Missing with a calc script (see Re: BSO Level 0 Block Analysis Advice) although it's going to be slow and you'd need to defrag with a dense restructure afterward.

  • Column format export for chosen members only (Essbase 7.1.6)

    Hi,
I need to pull column-format looking level 0 export from Essbase cube, that:
    * must only contain single month for single year, other months in export file are to be either #Mi (pre) or non-present (post);
    * must only be for chosen account branches (so account->month->year carving);
Main database must stay untouched by this, so if clearing/restructure is needed it must be done on a copy.
The quest is to find a simple way to set this up to run without any human interaction. My idea is to:
    1) copy of current database structure without data (batch: shutdown both db's, clear copy, copy essbase files, start dbs),
    2) populate it with newest level 0 export (esscmd script),
    3) carve out needed data using calcscripts+variables set up for this occasion (esscmd scripts on top of calc scripts),
    4) export in column format (esscmd script).
Point one is kind of problematic since I need to copy essbase structure related files (otl and friends). Carving with CLEARBLOCK script takes about 2-3h per run (clearing unwanted months and years, needs to be split into three account sets later on).
Is there an easier way to do this kind of carving? Column format compliance is a must here, so ,,column format alike'' report script might not be the way to go. Anybody?
    Cheers,
    S.
Edited by: uEssbaser on 2009-01-28 02:53

Jason, so far I haven't got the chance to write any usable report scripts and trying to modify one of examples given in man brought me to 10GB of tmp files blowing off servers C: drive. What I need is data at zero level for (chosen accounts -> single chosen frequency -> single chosen time member -> single chosen year member -> all other dimensions). Export must be identical to level 0 column extraction from database in which everything else beyond listed dataset was cleared (so full time dim header, but for 100 in Feb and 200 in Mar you'll get #Mi 100 while extracting Feb, and #Mi #Mi 200 when doing Mar extraction). Any ideas?
Glenn, I'm still trying to get Jexport function to run over my chosen data, but I'm unsure about essbase column format compliance when extracting single month (header + added #Mi's?). Will retry and get back on this.
Doug, yeah I could do that, but Outline modifications are done mainly by other people and quite often too, so this may be a single point of failure in the future.
Anyway I'm half way to fully-automated process of getting outline structure (with OU OE) along with full column format level 0. I think I'm just going to parse this outside Essbase, as part of repacking and uploading to a remote site process. I need this to be ,,fire and forget'' process, so anything coupled too much with essbase (variables, UDAs, minor setting changes in structure) may become a hard to trace breaking point later.
Still -- any help and suggestions appreciated.
    Cheers,
    S.
