Moving from L2 network to L3.

Hi guys,
Recently i have start working to a small Service Provider and we are delivering ethernet leased lines to the end customer.
Our network is consisted of many ME 3600X and one 7609-S. The interconnections for all these are made by microwave point to point links (relay points) and for customer ethernet service we are using point to multipoint links (base stations) . In the attachement you can see the network topology.
The network is configured as a Layer 2 which meens that all point to point links are configured as Trunks with service intances.
There are no redundant links and Spanning Tree is not currently in use.
To add a customer we are creating a new vlan on ME 3600X and we are assigning that vlan to an access port, the vlan is added to whole path of ME switches and in the 7609-S we are creating service instance, vlan and interface vlan.
Sample Configuration
Ending ME 3600X
vlan 503
name TEST
interface giga0/5
description TEST
switchport access vlan 503
Middle  ME 3600X
vlan 503
name TEST
7609-S
bridge-domain 503
vlan 503
name TEST
interface giga 0/5
service instance 503 ethernet
encapsulation dot1q 503
rewrite ingress tag pop1 symmetric
brigde-domain 503 split-horizon
interface Vlan503
description TEST
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
We are in progress of buying a second Cisco 7609-S for redundancy and some ME 3600X for network expansion and probably there will be redundant point to point links. To make our netwotk more effiecient and scalable we would like to move on from L2 to L3.
One question is to setup SVIs on MEs and add them to the routing process or is more preferable to use pure L3 ports to point to point links?
Second question is regarding which protocol to use ISIS or OSPF?
In case of enabling a routing process is there any resone to use MC-LAG to 7609s ?
And last one. Is there something to watch out, so that customers don't exerience service interruption?
Thank you in advance.

You could have point-to-point L3 links between ME3600 and 7600 (with OSPF or ISIS).
And On ME3600 you could have this config :
vlan 503
name TEST
interface giga0/5
description TEST
switchport access vlan 503
interface Vlan503
description TEST
ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.252
no ip redirects
no ip unreachables
You can redistribute your customers subnet with redistrubute connected or with passive-interface on OSPF/ISIS.

  • HT1515 I have moved from windows to mac and had to reset my airport. I am trying it to join the existing wireless network. the process ends in an unexpected error. The ethernet connection seems to work OK

I have moved from windows to mac and had to reset my airport express. After the reset I enter the name of the existing network, name the base unit, enter its password twicw and select additional options as join the existing network. It comes back with a screen asking for the name of the base unit and password. Aftre which it starts cycling between "waiting for airport express", "connecting to 'network name'" and ends with an error message. When I try to set up using ethernet cable evrything works but I need wireless (it worked OK just hours ago). Any advice?
    Thank you

    Hello, vgafromva.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes a simple power cycle of the AirPort can resolve this issue.  However, here is an article I would recommend going through when experiencing issues connecting to Wi-Fi.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply back with the exact error message received.

  • New internet provider (moved from Comcast to Uverse) and I can't get my new network to stay put, and I can't get my Time Capsule to stop blinking yellow

I have moved from Comcast to Uverse, and can't get my TIme Capsule to stop blinking yellow.  I know it isn't updating.  Additionally, I can't get my computer to recognize the 'new' wireless network.  It keeps changing back to the 'old' network.

You have two separate issues here. although both were created with the recent changes on your network.
Find out why the Time Capsule is blinking amber as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click directly on the the Time Capsule icon
Click directly on the amber dot....and another window will open to explain more about the issue...along with suggested actions that you can take to remedy the issue.
If you want your Mac to connect first to the "new" network....
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock
    Open Network
Click on WiFi on the left
Click Advanced at the lower right
Make sure that the name of the network that you want the Mac to connect to first appears at the top of the connection order list. Drag the name to the top if it is not there now.
    Click OK
    Click Apply
Now your Mac will attemp to connect first to the network that you positioned at the top of the connection order list.

  • Weird: Backup file works fine from the network but not when moved into sandbox environment

We have a valid full backup of a database. We know it is valid, we have restored it twice from the network with no problems, but we do not have access to the network location from our sandbox environment.
The .bak file is sizable at about 9GB. The .bak file resides on our internal network, in a SAN drive. No problems there. When we copy the file from there into a sandbox environment to attempt the restore in the sandbox environment it gets corrupted. We've
tried three different times and all three different times it gets corrupted. First time we copied the file over to the sandbox the restore went up to 50% and failed. The second time we copied the file again and attempted the restore again it failed at 70%.
The third time it failed at 60%. The error message we get during the restore is "...Read on ... failed: 13(The data is invalid) Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Restore database is terminating abnormally."
Now some background here. To move the file our network team is doing this: they have this .vmdk file that they mount out in our production environment (which has access to the network location where the .bak file is), copy the file into the drive, then move
the .vmdk file into the sandbox environment(which does not have access to the network location), mount the drive in the sandbox environment, and then I have access to the .bak file from within the sandbox environment.
Something in the process of using the .vmdk file to move the .bak file from production into the sandbox is causing the file to get corrupted.
Any thoughts? Has anyone seen this before? Any idea? TIA,
    Raphael

  • Office files slow when opening from a Network Share

    Hi!
So, we have a client who moved from having regular Office installations to Office 365 for Mid Size business and reinstalled the Office that comes along with Office 365. Ever since we did
that, there is a delay in opening any office files from a network share. Opening up a Word or Excel document takes up a lot longer than it did before. We have another client with the exact same issue who have Office 2013, so I think its mostly something to
do with office 2013. This problem has been going on for a month, and I have tried everything I can. I have gone through most posts on technet and the internets. Tried disabling AV, Office File Validation, added the network share to trusted locations, removed
add-ins. Nothing works! All other files opens up quickly, pdf, jpg. We can open larger jpg or pdf files faster than smaller office documents. This is a significant problem with our clients as they work in recruitment and open up resumes all day from the network
share and it takes forever to open.
Any advice or help is appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Shaneez

  • Moving from SBS 2003 to Hyper V 2012 R2 VM's

    Hi Folks,
Apologies if I have posted on the wrong Forum
I will keep this brief .
My customer currently has an old SBS 2003 standard physical server. They utilize the integrated Exchange 2003 system. It now needs to be changed/upgraded due to lack of hard disk space and incompatibility between Outlook 2013 and exchange 2003 amonst other
    thing.
SBS is no longer available but as the company has grown substantially in the last few years SBS would have been unsuitable anyway. The company has about 80 user accounts across 60 Computer systems.
I have decided after much research to replace the old SBS2003 system with one new Physical server running Windows 2012R2 Hyper V as the Host O/S.. I have also setup 2 Gen 1 VM's running Server 2012 standard, (NOT 2012 R2). I have then promoted one of the
VM's to be a domain controller simply by adding Active Directory Domain services role. The othe VM will be used as an exchange 2010 server .. I have the Exchange 2010 SP3 installation lying in wait on the second VM but I havent installed yet as it requires
    access to domain accounts.
The new Server has about 1 terabyte of Hard drive space and 32 gig Ram. The DC has been allocated 8 gig of Ram and 500 gig of Hard drive space. The exchange 2010 VM has been allocated 12 gig Ram with 150 gig Hard drive space.
What I need now is a guide on how to get this new server installed on my existing network and removing the existing SBS2003 box.
I know i have to attach the new domain Controller VM to the existing domain and allow active directory account information etc to replicate onto the new DC VM. Apparently this can take a few days. I am unsure however at which point I connect the exchange
server to the old sbs2003 box in order to move the mailboxes.. actually I am not even sure if I ever connect the new exchange VM to the old sbs 2003 box. Would it be better to get the DC replaced first. i.e attach the DC to the existing domain.. let the active
directory info to replicate.. transfer the roles, demote the sbs2003 box?? I am concerned that the old mailboxes on the sbs2003 box will then be irretrievable..
Perhaps someone can clarify the steps in sequence that I need to follow to end up with my DC VM and Exchange 2010 VM with migrated mailboxes installed as replacement for the current sbs 2003 box.
Some other notes:  Although i have used 2012 R2 for the hyper V host I have decided that 2012 made better sense for the VM operating systems due to the better compatibility with exchange 2010 in one VM and simply because of online advice on the DC VM.
    Thanks in advance

This doesn't really have anything to do with Virtual Server 2005 (this forum, or even Hyper-V).
This is migration from SBS to a regular domain.  Look at the SBS forums, or Exchange and AD forums for advice moving from SBS to regular Exchange and 2012 AD.

  • Best practice for moving from a G5 to a new Mac with SL

I am receiving my new iMac today (27") and am very excited
However I want to move over using the best practices to assure that I remain excited and not frustrated
My initial thoughts are to boot it up and doe the initial set up - to move my iPhoto library over and to use migration assistance to move the rest of my data files
Then to install all of the extra software that I can find the packages for from the original installation disks
And then finally to use migration assistant again to move over any software that I can not find original disks for (I've moved from Mac to Mac to Mac over and over and some of the software goes back to OS 9 (and won't run anymore I guess)
    Is this a good way
    OR
will I mess up doing it this way
    OR
am I spending far too much time worrying about moving old problems over and would be better off to just turn MA loose and let it do its thing form the beginning?
BTW - mail crashes a lot on my existing system - pretty much everything else seems ok - except iPhoto is slow - hoping that the new Intel dual core will help that
    LN

Migration Assistant is not a general file moving tool. MA will migrate your Applications and Home folders transferring only your third-party applications. MA will transfer any application support folders required by your applications, your preferences, and network setup. You do not have a choice of what will be migrated other than the above. MA cannot determine whether anything transferred is compatible with Snow Leopard. I recommend you look at the following:
A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries. Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs. The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode. It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data. This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:

    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

    Revised 1/6/2009
In general you are better off reinstalling any third-party software that is PPC-only. Otherwise update your software so it's compatible with Snow Leopard.
Do not transfer any OS 9 software because it's unsupported. You can transfer documents you want to keep.
Buy an external hard drive to use for backup.

  • Trying to move itunes from a network server but not succeeding. Help!

my work laptop is part of an exchange server network thing. I have to move my personal data from this network and so have experienced a few problems. Firstly when i moved the itunes files to my desktop away from the synched files in 'my documents' and 'my music' it deleted my whole library. I still had the files but everytime i tell itunes to add folders of music from their new location it still insists on putting the files back into 'my music' as well and thus back onto the server. I've changed the file location in the advanced settings to its new location on the desktop but its still doing the same thing. Can anyone help please?

    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Copy the entire iTunes folder including music to the another location/external drive.
    3 Restart iTunes holding (Shift-Windows, Option-Mac).
4 Select Choose library. Select the library in the folder you just moved.
5 Move the old iTunes folder to the trash but do not empty it.
6 Restart iTunes normally and verify the songs work. If they do, empty the trash.

  • Moved from Australia to Singapore with a new phone account iphone4

    Hi all.
I've just moved from Australia to Singapore. I have my new micro sim from Starhub
But when I put it into the phone I get a " no service" message. Oddly though when
I take the micro sim out of my wife's iPhone her company provided for her here and put it inline
it finds the network straight away. From this im assuming it's not an issue like the
Phone being locked ( which it shouldn't be) but I'm puzzled as to what my next
Step should be. I read somewhere that a local version of iTunes will update the setting in my phone.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Yes, the cracked screen voids the warranty. Had you exchanged it when you first experienced the problems and before the screen cracked, then it would be covered under warranty and replaced for free.

  • Moving from Gmail to MobileMe/.Mac, in relation to an iTunes Store Account

I'm moving from Gmail to MobileMe since I got my iPhone, and as with every email change, a whole mess of online accounts follow. The process is simple enough for third parties like social networks, but Apple wants my life to super convenient and easy, and in the process made it even more confusing. My MobileMe account apparently already has an attached iTunes Store/Apple account, so I can't change my old account to log in with the @me instead of my @gmail. While I could simply stop using the Gmail, I receive iTunes allowances which would need to be re-set up and would lose store credit. What would be best is to simply merge the two accounts. Is this in any way possible?

    HI,
can you still update your UAE purchased apps after this change?
    Thx

  • Moving from Novell Zenworks to Windows Server 2008 domain

I am trying to find ways to automate the process of moving between a Novell Zenworks environment to a server 2008 domain. The first problem to my understanding is changing the names of the machines to legal values in our Windows XP Pro Clients. They are currently mostly named, cata_rm#_computer# (where # is a defined value set manually). To my understanding underscore _ is an invalid character for joining a domain so we want to have an automated script that can easily be deployed over the network to basically replace all "_"with "-". Is this necessary or can this issue be handled easier ****her down the road on moving to a windows domain?
We would then like to be able to deliver a payload via zenworks that will cause all of Novell and Zenworks to be removed from the computer and once that is complete add the computer to the new windows domain. Ideally the payload could be easily run from a network share or flash drive as well. Unattended installers may be available for this software suite but we would want to combine the uninstall process with adding the domain so we can move from our poor zenworks domain to a windows domain without ever touching most of our machines.
This is not my project but I am interested in learning how this process could be completed as painlessly as possible hopefully learning something along the way. Anything from links to guides on where to get started looking to more developed solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

None the less the beginning of my problem, removing Novell is a Novell issue. Thankfully I have figured out most of the removal of novell and zenworks already, now just working on fixing the client names and joining the windows AD domain.

  • Moving from CSS to ACE

I'm trying to find documentation on moving from a CSS to the ACE but have not been able to find much on the ACE in general (no books at all). Does anyone have any info on this? We are currently using the CSS for multiple Web and Server farms, and are looking to add SSL in the mix. Trying to decide if we should just offload the SSL to the ACE for now (eventually migrating completely to the ACE) or if we should convert everything over at the same time.
Any links or book suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi,
Here is the official link to ACE documentaton (but you probably have already found this...):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6906/tsd_products_support_model_home.html
I don't believe that there is a book, as this is relatively new product. Also don't hope too much to find migration guide :)
You may use some design guides for CSM module and try to apply a part of it to ACE (Topology will be simmilar for ACE and CSM, but with ACE you additionaly have possibility of virtualization/contexts).
But, pay attention, becouse ACE and CSM have completely different config command syntax and configuration philosophy!
I did not quite understand your dilemma regarding migration?
Personally, I have not yet had a chance to implement SSL offload on ACE, but it sounds logical to move the server farm that will use SSL offload behind ACE, and do SSL termination and load-balancing for that server farm on ACE. Then, gradually you can move other servers behind ACE...
You will have to decide based on conditions and requirements in your network, and after reading thousands of pages of documentation... ;)
    Good luck!
    Best regards,
    Jasmina

  • Can't preview files from a network drive to a local CF9 server.

    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    CF9 Local Dev version
    CF Builder 2.
Project files are in a network drive N:\project
I have RDS set up and everything seems to work ok, view DSN, files, etc on my local server.
In the URL prefix section I even created a map:
    Local Path: N:\project,
    URL prefix: http://localhost:8500/project/
There is no FTP set up on the CF9 server.
The problem is that when I try to preview a file that I am working on from N:\project, it doesn't show on my local server. The previewing part works if I manually move the file to CF9. But it is the automatic uploading (or moving) of the file to the local CF9  that doesn't seem to work.
BTW, I have a similar set up in DreamWeaver, where I am editing the same project (or site in this case) off of  N:\project, uploading to the same local CF9 server through RDS, and it works fine.
I know that if in CF Builder you move the project to under the web root it will work but that would not work for us, since we need to keep the project source files on a network drive for sharing/backup purposes.
Has anyone been able to successfully preview source files from a network drive on a local CF9 server?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi again,
After doing some more googling I realize that for files to be previewed the MUST be under wwwroot. This wasn't too clear in the CF documentation.
    So my new question is:
Is there are way, once I save a file to automatically copy it from one location(N:\project) to another (c:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/project)?
I think there is a way to do it with Ant or some sort of Eclipse feature, but I am not too familiar with either. Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,

  • Moved from DC to NC now smtp authentication with Cox won't work on roadrunn

I just moved from DC to NC. I have a cox.net email I prefer to use. Cox allows smtp authentication over other ISPs. I had RCN in DC and it worked perfectly. But now, with Time Warner (RoadRunner), it doesn't work. (Incoming still works fine, this is just about outgoing/smtp.) The smtp authentication is set up EXACTLY as it was in DC, but the connection just times out. Oddly, it works fine when I am connected directly to the cable modem. BUT, it does not work when I am connected to my wireless network using an airport extreme. I have deleted the smtp server a hundred times. I have selected SSL and unselected SSL a hundred times. I have tried no authentication. I have tried removing the "cox.net" after my name in the outgoing mail settings. I have reset the airport extreme to factory settings and set the network up again. NOTHING is working. Why would this work directly connected to the modem but not through the EXACT SAME WIRELESS NETWORK and settings I had with RCN??? Any tips/help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and all of my other non-RoadRunner smtp authentication accounts work fine. And my me.com email works fine.

Thanks again, Bob! Here is the error I'm getting for all three usual ports (25, 465 & 587):
    CONNECTED Apr 07 08:26:51.776 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:smtp.west.cox.net -- port:465 -- socket:0x116c00450 -- thread:0x116f54800
    READ Apr 07 08:26:52.090 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNegotiatedSSL] -- host:smtp.west.cox.net -- port:465 -- socket:0x116c00450 -- thread:0x116f54800
    554 fed1rmimpo03.cox.net bizsmtp connection refused from 71.77.138.209
It looks to my untrained eye that the cox servers are refusing me. Is that correct? So I should call cox, right? And how do I find the IP address that I'm being refused under?
Sorry to be so ignorant, but your help is greatly appreciated!

  • I have just moved from using Windows all my life to Mac OS Lion. My accounting software "Tally" does not run on it. Please help !

I have just moved from using Windows all my life to buying a Mac Book Pro running on OS Lion. But my accounting softwares Tally 7.2 and Tally 9 do not run on it.
I just learnt that the software platform of Tally Accounting softwares are specific to Windows only.
I need to run the accounting software, Mail and several spread sheets and documents at the same time.
Is there some way I can do this on the Mac Lion OS?
    Help solicited !

Yes, you can share files across a network as long as the network server is setup so your Mac can connect to it. See Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and file servers on a network, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect your Mac directly to a Windows computer, Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to a Mac from a Windows computer, and Mac OS X 10.7 Help: Connect to shared computers and servers using a network address.
