Moving itunes account from one windows user account to another....

Hello! I really hope some one here can help!
I use one of two user accounts on my comp, my boyfriend is the "owner" and I have my own. For separate itunes accounts .... Something is messed up with my profile on this user account and an IT friend told me he thinks that I should just delete my whole profile from the OWNER one and start over, saving anything i need beforehand.
I was about to do that until I realised that my Itunes account would also be gone.
Is there any way that I can transfer my itunes account to another user account on my computer without losing everything and having to start over???
Pllllease & thank you!!!

Well, if all of the music is in My Music\iTunes, then just copy that folder.
If it isn't:
If it's in a shared location, such as the root of the drive, and both account are accessing it, then ignore the music, and transfer just the 'iTunes' folder within My Music.
If it's in an account specific location (like on your desktop), first consolidate it to your My Music, then transfer that folder.

  • Moving iTunes library from one Windows PC to another

How can I move my iTunes library from one Windows PC to another using iTunes 11.0.1.12?
I seem to lose my playlists and more oddly some track meta-data and settings - can anyone point me to a good guide as the search hasn't turned up anything that's worked for me?
    Thanks

Thank you so much for replying!  I'm not sure I quite understand, though.  The media folder is in (2TB) /iTunes/iTunes Music/Music currently, cloned from (1TB) /iTunes/iTunes Music/Music.  If I copied the /iTunes/ folder from 1TB to the 2TB, I'd be doing the exact same thing as when I cloned it, which I'm willing to do if I'm understanding you correctly.
Or are you asking me to copy all of the files (minus the /iTunes Music/ folder) in the (1TB) /iTunes/ folder and replace all of those files in the (2TB) /iTunes/ folder?

  • Moving iTunes library from one external hard drive to another, playlists

Here's my question. I keep my iTunes library on an external drive. My 250GB extrernal drive is full, so I'm moving my entire library to a new 500GB hard drive.
What do I have to do so my hundreds of playlists (most mixes with dozens of songs) still function once I've moved the music over?
Do I delete everything from my old drive, then use the 'add to library' function on the entire new drive? If I do that, will iTunes be able to find the tunes in each playlist?
    Thanks!

I DON'T MIND DRAGGING THINGS OVER; TH PROBLEM IS, WHEN I TRY TO PLAY PLAYLISTS AFTER MOVING STUFF TO THE NEW DRIVE, EVERY SONG WILL ASK "FILE NOT FOUND--WOULD YOU LIKE TO LOCATE IT?" WITH 50,000 mp3s, it will take forever to rebuild all my playlists. Is there a way to have iTunes search a new drive and recognize the songs as being the same as the ones on the old drive, so you don't have to do this manually?
Also, if I do use the 'consolidate library' approach-- what happens if I drag all my other music folders into my itunes folder manually on the old drive, then try consolidate--will it copy EVERYTHING over to the new drive, or only the stuff that was in the iTunes music folder on the old drive from the beginning (since everything else I used "add to library' but not 'copy to itunes music folder'.
iTunes should have some more built in utility options to allow it to find everything in the library when it moves to a new drive, even if one chooses to keep music in a different format than the 'itunes music folder' approach. .

  • Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?

    Using Windows 7, iphone 4.
I've read as many threads on these forums and as many kb's as I could find, but I sttill can't figure it out. I have 2 iPhones. Let's call them, "wife" and "hubby". I want to have two separate iTunes, one for each of the phones. Hubby is the Windoows User. I don't want to set up a different Windows User for wife.
Hubby was the original iPhone. When I plug it in, iTunes recognized it has Hubby's iPhone. Then I unplug Hubby and close iTunes. I plug in Wife but iTunes stll comes up with Hubby under Devices and syncs Hubby's iTunes to Wife's iphone.
I've tried using the shift key when I open iTunes to set up two separate .itl files to no avail.
Is there a way to have two different iTunes for two different iPhones on one Windows User account?
    Thanks!

What happens if you rename the iPhone "Wife" when it shows up as "Hubby", then choose a different set of apps/playlists to sync with? iTunes is supposed to be able to manage multiple devices, each with their own selection of content. Perhaps you "restored" "Wife" with a backup from "Hubby" when you first set things up which is now causing confusion.
To create a new library press and hold down the shift key as you click the icon to start iTunes and keep holding shift until asked to choose or create a library. You need to use the same technique to switch back.

  • Can i transfer itunes purchase from one of my accounts to another of my accounts?

can i transfer itunes purchases from one of my accounts to another of my accounts?

No, all iTunes purchases will remain tied to the account that downloaded them, they can't be transferred to a different account (nor can accounts be merged).

  • Moving iTunes library from one internal drive to another

tl;dr somewhat - cloned iTunes folder from one non-boot internal to another; changed Media Folder Location in Preferences, both boxes below checked; iTunes still plays music off old location.  Help!
First off, I have a Mac Pro in which I have a 1TB drive separate from the boot drive simply to house my iTunes media folder.  I have been running out of space on the drive, so I purchased a 2TB drive to move my iTunes media folder to.  I had been allowing my iTunes Library files to stay on my boot drive in their default location, but after reading more about how the library files + media folder work, I decided to copy all of the library files to the 1TB drive iTunes folder, to mirror the boot drive's.  I used Option + open iTunes and selected the copied library file and everything worked perfectly - I mention this in case this has created the problem I'm now having.
I used the Apple endorsed method of having iTunes do the copying/consolidating of files to the new location on the 2TB drive but it failed - and I know I followed the directions perfectly, I even tried it twice.  It copied over ~100k of my 134k songs, and the missing songs weren't just albums that had strange symbols (which I've had issue with before) - it would simply not copy some artists; or copy six of an artist's seven albums.  This was not going to be an option for me in terms of how to move my media.
I had wanted from the beginning to use Carbon Copy Cloner (which I use every day and trust) to simply clone the 1TB to the 2TB drive and then change the location in the iTunes preferences.  I unchecked 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized' and 'Copy files...', then changed the location and clicked OK.  I then went back in, checked those two boxes and iTunes started into "Updating iTunes Library", which lasted a few minutes.  However, even though the new location is set to the 2TB drive, when I play a song (to make sure it works) and then click to see info, it's still reading it off the 1TB drive.
So I remembered the whole Option + open iTunes thing, did that and selected the iTunes Library.itl file on the 2TB drive - nothing changed.  I read some more on various forums about it and thought that maybe I should Option + open iTunes and then select the iTunes folder itself - nothing changed.
So I'm stuck with the media in the right place on the 2TB drive but iTunes still trying to read it off the 1TB, even though the location in Preferences has been set to the 2TB.  I feel like I'm just missing something simple here. WHAT DO I DO?! I'm guessing it's not as simple as removing the 1TB, renaming the 2TB and letting iTunes look where the 1TB used to be.

  • I transferred my iTunes library from one external hard drive to another and added more music on the same day. How do I get rid of my duplicate files without going through them one by one which would take forever?

Please help. I have transferred my iTunes library from one external hard drive to another plus added additional music now I have duplicates of the same music in many albums. How do I delete the duplicates without going through them one by one which would take forever? I understand how to get the "show exact duplicate" feature up on iTunes but, because they were added to the library on the exact day I can't seperate them I'm that manner. So each duplicate is right next to eachother in the exact duplicate screen.

  • I am using Windows 8 with iTunes.  How do I manage iTunes with two different Windows User Accounts?

I have recently bought a laptop running Windows 8 and downloaded iTunes.  I subscribe to iTunes Match and have a large amount of purchased music and imported CDs, along with some films purchased from iTunes.
I have downloaded all of the music and the films to the laptop using iTunes Match when logged in under my User Account in Windows 8.  However, when we switch to my girlfriend's User Account, she can load up iTunes but all the music and films have the cloud symbol on them indicating that they need to be downloaded
Is is necessary to download everything to the computer twice (I can't really believe this is the answer) or are we missing something in terms of using iTunes with two different User Accounts?
    Thank you.

    Step 1
Create a new user account on your device. For Mac users, choose “System Preferences” from the Apple Menu and navigate to the “View” menu. Click on “Accounts” and select the “+” button to add a new user account to your machine. Edit the user information and grant any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
For Windows users, click on the Windows "Start" button, select “Control Panel” and choose “Add or Remove User Accounts.” A new window will open. Click “Create a New Account.” Name the account and set any relevant privileges by following the on-screen prompts.
    Step 2
Sign in to the new user account you created.
    Step 3
Open iTunes and click “Sign in.” Enter your Apple ID and password and log in.
    Step 4
Download purchases through the iTunes store. All files related to these purchases are stored under the separate user account, thus separating both iTunes accounts and their libraries on the same computer.
    Step 5
You can share music from both libraries by dragging your music library to a publicly accessible location on your computer. Click “Preferences” from the iTunes menu and deselect “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file.” Add the shared folder to your library from the “File” menu.
    Tip
Create more than one library from the same user account by deselecting “Copy files to iTunes Media Library when adding to library file” from the “Preferences” menu. Add the files you want to iTunes by dragging and dropping or by opening from the “File” menu and sync your device to that library. Quit iTunes after the sync and reopen iTunes while holding the "Shift" key in Windows or the "Option" key on a Mac.

  • Sharing one "Email account" between two Windows "user account" in a "Global Inbox"

Context: Two "windows user accounts" on a Windows XP PC, having the same email address. The "Local folder" is placed on a "All users" directory and acounts settings specify a POP server with a retention period of 30 days.
Problem: When User B ask for reception of messages, he received all messages already read by user B. (this probably due to separate popstate.dat).
On a previous PC two years ago, we do not had this dupplicate reading.
If you have a solution, could you also cover the Windows 7 case.
    Regards
    Dto75

I strongly suggest you get the whole profile in the same folder hierarchy before you even consider moving to windows 7.
    Windows XP has Program File
Windows 7 has Program Files and Program Files (X86) your executable goes in the x86 one.
    XP has applications data
    Windows 7 has appdata
In windows XP Thunderbird's profile is in application data in windows 7 it is in appdata/roaming
If you open explorer the old locations appear to be there, but they will not work to locate Thunderbird's disparate parts of it's profile
And so the list goes on. Hence none of the locations you know will probably exist under windows 7 so if parts of the profile are pointing to locations that have changed, only grief awaits you.

  • How do I transfer my itunes library from different mac user accounts?

I was planning to make a new user account (not itunes) for myself on my mac since my other is completely screwed up, but if i do this i will lose my itunes account. How do i transfer my library from the old user account to the new one.

Using administrator status on the computer you should be able to move the whole iTunes folder from one account to the other.  Put it in the equivalent music folder.
You may need to adjust user permissions on the folder and everything in it so it belongs to the new user.  Read the part about changing permissions on the iTunes folder in: https://discussions.apple.com/message/11583914

  • Moving itunes content when creating new user account

Recently added two iphones to our rapidly growing apple family of devices.  Our imac was originally set up with just one main user account the whole family shared.  The problem I have is with sharing, syncing, merging with my iphone all family shared information.  For example, the contact list on the shared family mac is huge and includes many "x-mas card only people" that I will never need to call.  Same with shared calendar.  If make some quick notes or reminders on my calendar just for me, it replicates on to everyones device.  The guy at the apple store suggested I should have my own account.  I have done that and am now seeing the limitations OSX puts on different accounts as it seeks to protect each account.  An example here is trying to share and use our iphoto library.  My goal is to have itunes in my new , separate account that syncs to my own contact list (won't change back to the full family list every time I sync), has just the apps I want (not my daughters 300 apps that seem to keep re-appearing on my phone), still be able to sync to the family calendar but maybe have one of my own as well, have my own playlists from itunes 9I was able to find a way to access the big family music library in my account) and be able to build iphoto albums to sync.
I think problems stem from a lack of understanding the basics of what separate "accounts" really can and can't do as it relates to different applications and devices.
    Thanks for any help!

    Drag \Music\iTunes folder to \Users\Shared.
Log in to the new user account and copy \Users\Shared\iTunes to \Music\iTunes.

  • Combining libraries from multiple Windows User Accounts

I've had a look through several pages in this section of the forum but couldn't find a direct answer to my question...so here goes:
We have a small network of three Win XP PCs and a Buffalo NAS drive. The main house PC has three Windows user accounts: Mum, Dad & Son. Each user account has an iTunes account of its own, so three iTunes IDs and three iTunes libraries.
What we would now like to do is bring the three libraries together in to a central library that will live on the NAS drive.
The central library will be accessed by some Sonos streaming music players. I've set up MS SyncToy to copy new music files over from each of the source libraries, but I'm not sure about handling the album artwork.
Is there a better way of combining three libraries so that the albums and artwork stay together?
Any help on this would be appreciated :-)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Or is there another forum here or elsewhere on the web where I might get a response?

  • HT203167 Moved iTunes library from one computer to another using external hard drive.  Cannot play many files.  Says they are missing but locates them in an archive file but still won't play them.  Are the files themselves part of the .itl files?

Moved iTunes library from old computer (PC Windows 7) to new (PC Window 8) using external hard drive.  Library listing shows all music but can only play a fraction of it.  On the ones it cannot play it asks to locate, then refers to an archived version (an .itl file), and still cannot play them.  Do I just need to copy the archived .itl over, or is that not where the actual media are (do the actual media files even exist on the new computer?)?  Any advice or information on this would be helpful.

*Also...is there any way I can filter out all the tracks with the ! so I can delete the unplaying copies as they're taking up room in my iTunes? I know how to find duplicates, but then I have to go and delete each one individually...*
    *Thank you!*

  • Problem migrating account from one active directory domain to another. Using NetBIOS

    Hello,
I'm migrating a Lion machine from one domain to another. When I try to join it to abc.example.com it joines it to 123.example.com in the list of domains. 123.example.com is the NetBIOS name of abc.example.com. This configuration does not work.
What is even more strange, is if I go into the Open Directory Utility > Active Directory to set the create mobile account settings, once I apply the settings (or even if I don't apply the settings) when I get back to the list of domains, it show BOTH abc.example.com and 123.example.com as domains I am joined to. If I remove 123.example.com it removes abc.example.com.
I've only seen this problem one other time and this was with a snow leopard machine that was not bound to AD. I upgraded it to Lion and tried to bind it, and had the exact same thing occur.
I'm certain there is a "stuck" setting somewhere that is causing this. I have had successful snow leopard > lion upgrades work, and many lion machines joined to AD so this does work normally. Just not sure whats wrong or really where to look.
The OS is fully patched and updated to the current version.
    Any thoughts?

    Case 1:
Here you can written pre-update event handler which will check whether minor and major org code changed or not.
If changed then first starts de-provisioning and then start provisioning.
If not changed then do nothing.
This approach will not transfer accounts from one domain to another but it will create fresh accounts and remove accounts from old domain.
    Case2:
If you want to transfer accounts from one domain to another in that on pre-update you have to change OU of user on process which automatically move to another domain.
but not sure about exchange it is possible to move to another domain.
hopping that all domains under same forest otherwise same Connector Sever will not work.
