Moving objects and other shapes or groups of shapes in Illustrator to exact placement!

HI,
I am trying to move objects with the mouse to an exact place(grouped objects) within my document, how do i go about doing this?
I have snap to point turned off, but everytime i try to click and drag to either overlap and object onto another, so it sits in line and that way i can delete remaining shapes around this, it wont let me, i move it, and then it quickly moves like half a cen centimeter to the left???
I have zoomed in and tried doing it at this view but still the same.
It is very frustrating, does anyone know why this is happening, or could help us.
Also snap to point is not turned off and it's not the first time this has happened!

I jump of half a centimeter is vast.
What happens if you move an object with the arrow keys, just one hit?
It could be a matter of corrupt preferences.
You may try the following and see whether it helps:
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer;
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup;
4) Move the folder with Illy closed;
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options, especially the usual suspects in item 7.

ITunes Fix for Manually Moving Music and other Media

Intro
Any iTunes 7.x user who manages their own music library outside of the "iTunes Music" folder might be able to tell you that iTunes DOES NOT respond well after manually moving tracks from one place to another on their computer systems. In fact, any file you move becomes immediately unplayable in iTunes. And, if you're anything like I am, losing several years worth of song rating metadata and playlists is not a good incentive for change. However, one thing others might not be able to tell you is that there's an easy workaround for the problem and you get to keep your playlists, ratings and other info. Read on to learn about the workaround.
About the Workaround
The workaround is a simple hack I devised after recently transferring a good portion of my music library between hard disks and running into problems with iTunes. The fix steps provided below are intended to circumvent the problems with iTunes and give users the freedom to move songs and other media files on their computers while maintaining the integrity of both the ratings and the playlists. Meaning you won't need to manually update the song locations in iTunes one-at-a-time, which, at version 7.02 is the only way to accomplish this task using the program.
Please be aware that not all information is retained using this workaround. What will be lost are the following: the "Recently Added", "Recently Played" and "Top 25 Most Played" iTunes Smart Playlists; any media file play counts; last played information; and possibly some other data used only internally by iTunes.
So, if you're comfortable parting with some metadata while keeping your cherished song ratings and playlists intact during file relocation, read on to learn how to use the workaround.
Workaround Steps
The following instructions walk step-by-step through the process of this workaround.
Note: All backslashes used in file paths have been converted to forward slashes so that they will adhere with MySpace XSS security validation checks. These altered paths can still be copy/paste into Windows Vista's Explorer program once the Username is changed to the User Account where the iTunes files reside.
Preparing for the Move
Before you move your files, do the following:
1. Close iTunes.
2. Create a backup copy of the following files:
iTunes Library XML (iTunes Music Library.xml)
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl)
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Moving Your Files
This part should be self explanatory, but while you do it make sure to note the following two things:
1. The path where the files were previously stored (e.g. D:/Music).
2. The path where the files will end up (e.g. E:/Music).
Execute the Fix
After your files are moved, complete the following steps to implement the fix.
Note: Do not open iTunes during this process.
Hack the iTunes Library XML
Once the files are moved the Library XML file locations will be out of sync. Follow the steps below to update them so that they now reference the correct file locations.
1. Open the iTunes Library XML with a Text Editor with a Find/Replace function.
Note: Vista users can find the Library XML at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Tip: Do not try to do this with Dreamweaver if your Library XML is greater than 10MB.
2. Perform a Find/Replace using the following inputs:
Find: Path from Step 1 of Moving Your Files
Replace: Path from Step 2 of Moving Your Files
3. Confirm your results, and then save and close the Library XML.
Delete the iTunes Music Database
Hacking the iTunes Library isn't enough to fool iTunes. Like the Library XML, the Music Database also holds the file locations of all of the media stored within the program. And it's smart enough to wipe out the Library XML hack if iTunes is opened before completing this step.
Ensure you have backed up the iTunes Music Database (iTunes Library.itl) and delete the file.
Note: Vista users can find the Music Database at C:/Users/Username/Music/iTunes
Back in iTunes
Once the fix is in place you can now open iTunes again. You will notice that all of your playlists, music and other items have vanished. In order to recover them all (with the exception of the Smart Playlists mentioned in the About the Workaround section above) we'll need to import the hacked Library XML file back into iTunes.
1. Open iTunes and press CtrlShiftO or go to File > Import…
2. Navigate to and Open your modified Library XML (as pictured below).
3. iTunes will then begin importing the contents of the XML file (as pictured below).
Note: This process may take a while, depending on the size if your library.
Wrapping Up
Once the import process is complete iTunes will look almost exactly the way you left it, with the exception that some playlists have been duplicated and the number of songs may be a hair off. To fix this problem delete any duplicate playlists in the "Library" panel in iTunes. You can now test out the changes by selecting an item moved earlier and testing it out. All that's left from there is to let iTunes perform any automated analysis it needs to do and rock on.

I appreciate your detailed workaround post. My question is this: I use iTunes to keep everything organized (though I'm well aware of the shortcomings...) and can use the simple solution that Chris from CA posted, but I don't have room to consolidate everything. My read on consolidating is that you copy from wherever you have your music located (and right now my music is outside of the MyMusic/iTunes folder, as that backs up to my work server) and so you have to have enough room for all of your music to be copied (and then you delete it from its prior location). That's how Apple describes it in, e.g., http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301748. I ain't go that kind of room. Is there any way to make the move to a completely different PC by following the simple option? From the posting I just linked it sounds like you MUST consolidate whether you use you iPod to move things or use an external drive.
Of course, I can use your workaround, but I thought I'd ask first. Many thanks.

How to organize Data Objects and other Objects in SWCV

Hi,
I am looking for Best Practices on how to organize data objects in SWCV as well as other objects such as a Distribution Rules.
We are planning to develop three occasionally connected applications with NW Mobile 7.1 this year and maybe additional one the following year. We will create multiple Standard Data Objects (e.g. Plant, Company Code, Reservations, ...) which are shared in the first set of transactions and in the future transactions.
I have heard before to separate out Standard Data Objects from Distribution Models and have two different SWCV.
Should I have a) one SWCV for all current and future Standard Data Objects and one for the distribution rtules or b) should I separate out common data objects into one SWCV, and all transaction-specific data object each into separate SWCV?
Just wondering if there are any best practices available for this so that I won't run into problems in the future when we want to add more transactions/data objects?
Any advise is appreciated.

How i should proceed..I cannot see the uses option while creating new SWCV2 ( Only option i see is 'backward compatibility checkbox : uses NW04/NW04s MI Application')

SWCV2 was created and inherited SWCV1 in uses tab of SWCV2.

if the export to XML file is successful, the file will not be deleted if you are creating it from Metadata Exchange.
The file gets deleted in case you are using the create universe option and by default the file is created in %LINK_DIR%\log\MetadataExchange, you will also see ME_errorlog.txt and ME_outputlog.txt if there are any errors, do you see and erros in these files if you are creating the Universe directly from DS Designer ?
to use Metadata Exchange do the following
Open Data Services Desginer
Click on tools Menu -> Metadata Exchange
In the Metadata Exchange window
Select Export Data Services metadata to a file
Select DI CWM as metadata format
enter location for xml file (C:\temp)
Select the datastore you want to create Universe for
Click OK
Check for file named repo_export.xml in the C:\temp folder or the folder that you specified
Open Universe Builder and Select
Data Integrator bridge
and use the xml file as input to create universe

Use primtives when you just need raw values with no behavior. If you need an integer number, you'll generally use int, sometimes long, rarely short.
Use objects when you need the concepts they model--String when you want a string of text, Date when you want to represent a date, whatever class you create (Person, Student, Car, Whatever) when you need to use or manipulate the concepts they model.
Use the object wrappers for the primitives--Integer, Double, etc.--when you want to represent the number but you're using it in a context where objects are required--e.g. when adding them to a collection.

I am searching for Shapes, Shapes that I can use in my graphiing tool. My Program has Nodes connected to each other with simple lines.
Currently I use circles, ovals, eclipses, and general Shapes from the java.awt.geom. package. I am searching for more shapes that can really help my presentation.
does someone know where to find an Arrow Shape class that I can use in my drawing?

Moving Tablespaces and other data-Objects to another HD

Hi,
XE is running on Win XP Pro SP2 here. It installs the datafiles on C:\ too. That's no proper solution because system loss could cause data loss in a bad crash.
Otherwise in managed enviroments often the sytemdrive will be autmatically cleaned for new desktop solutions.
Is there some experience about moving the tablespaces /moving the datafiles to another HD/Partition?
Doing this on 10g with EMGC is an easy job.
But how does this work on XE?

You can not move tablespaces. They are logical units that do not have a location. The required space allocation for a tabelespace is through one or more datafiles.
There is no problem moving data files to another drive. Effectively you
1) shutdown the database
2) copy the data file to the new location
3) Update (not edit) the control files to point to the new data file.
Step 3 is done by bringing up the database into 'control files are available and read into memory, but data files are not available' (the 'Mount' state) and issuing the ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE ... command.

Edit Objectives and other columns using PHAP_ADMIN : SAP Appraisals

Here is a common scenario that we are having problems setting up. We are on SAP 4.7 - ext 1.1. We have annual MBO ratings where the employee's objectives are rated by the manager. The employees create their objectives in the system using T.code PHAP_CATALOG. We have created OSA templates where in the Objectives can be only changed by appraiser and manager can only display. This is configured in the template using column access. (For example in planning stage the column access for objective setting is set to: Column Owner - Appraisee, Planning Owner- Change, Planning Others - Display.)
However, we would like the HR Administrator to be able to edit the objectives in planning status and subsequently other columns in the appraisal document. However in transaction PHAP_ADMIN the objectives are grayed out and the HR administrator cannot change the objectives of employs are edit anything in the document. This is probably because the column access is set to display for others. The role given is an exact copy of standard SAP delivered role for appraisal administrator. We have included P_Origin authorization object also.
I understand PHAP_ADMIN should over rule and enable changes by the administrator.
How do we manage this requirement?

This is the outcome of my research on this issue. Granting full access to administrator users is not the default behavior in PHAP_ADMIN for 620. It was introduced to 640 and unfortunately cannot be down ported.
However, We could give full access to the administrator using BAdI 'HRHAP00_COL_ACCESS' and this had the same effect. The necessary coding for method 'GET_COLUMN_ACCESS' looked like this:
| * If the transaction is PHAP_ADMIN allow full access
| IF sy-tcode CP 'PHAP_ADMIN*'.
| column_owner = 'X'.
| availability = 'X'.
| ENDIF.
I would like to give due credit to Alexander Esslinger from SAP, who helped us solve this problem.

Barces and other shapes

Where are the Brace shapes in pages? in Word they are easy to find but I am unable to insert a brace to a pages document (I had to copy it from a word document :@)
Or am I expected to draw it myself with the pen tool???

From left to right the fonts are: SimSun, Mona Lisa Solid ITC and Helvetica Neue UltraLight all sized to 175. You can quickly preview many different fonts in the Character Palette to see which one is closest to the one you want (look under punctuation). Then place it in a floating text box with wrap turned off and you can place anywhere in the document.
Seems easier then trying to "reinvent the wheel" with a drawing.

Moving object and selection on integer pixel only?

I am working on Flash CS5 , and I would like to "lock" any moves or selection on the pixel grid.
For example if I am moving with my mouse a square placed at x:10 and y:56 I want to have someting like x:456 and y:78 and NOT x:456,4 and y:78,8
Same thing for the selection, it select sometimes half of a pixel or a quarter, and it is very anoying... I am loosing a lot of time to check every element each time I placing, moving or selecting or creating to be sure it is an integer number.
Is there a posibility to do that?

in fact I just understand, if you have an element placed at x=10.47 px if you check the snapping on pixel it will keep the 0,47px shift...
so I have to give it and integer number and then it will snap on the grid

How do you lighten a moving object?

I have video of a person who keeps moving out of his spotlighting. Is there any way to "mask" a moving object and they brighten only that whilst leaving the background in tact?

Yes. It won't be easy though. You could duplicate the clip then use a multi-point garbage mask but you'll have to keyframe frame-by-frame.
Alternatively, you could try applying the 3 Way Color Corrector filter and using the Limit Effect feature IF the subject's coloring is distinct enough from the background.

Business Object and Netweaver, Event Insight

Can anyone tell me if Business Objects requires Netweaver Application Server? Also, Event Insight, includes Sybase CEP, Business Object and other components. Is that all on one server that is a Netweaver Application Servier? Or is it some combination of Netweaver and non-netweaver on a partitioned server or some other set-up.
Event Insight, I think is shown as 1 server.

you will find the code in the attachment (saved for LV2013). There is a longer delay inside the loop, remove it for efficiency.
Roughly measuring the time to read an image, the processing takes ~8 ms on my computer (~500x200 image resolution). That is ~125 samples/images per second. Is this not fast enough for you? Considering better image resolution, the time is of course increased.
My specifications:
Core i7 3632QM
6 Gb RAM
Win 7 x64 (Labview x86 though).

Moving text and objects

I have learned much from reading these discussions. This is my first post and I have had no previous experience with layouts or layers in any other application.
One of my students created this text box. How does she increase the borders around the text in the frame so the text does not bump up against the border? I am not sure how she created it. (Sorry, I thought I could put a picture of the text box in here but it won't import).
How do you make a text box increase horizontally without increasing it vertically?
I have had trouble moving objects after they were placed in the background but have learned how to do this from reading these discussions. (Drag from outside the layout to the object.) Thanks. However, I still have trouble doing this for text boxes made over a shape. Sometimes (and I don't know why) a small insertion image appears. It looks like a paragraph insert sign - has a small wavy line on top with two straight perpendicular lines attached to it going down. What are these? When this is an issue I still can't move text that is placed over an object.
Selecting text to move seems to be different than selecting objects to move.

this I don't understand. If the text would be the content of the shape, you should set every option of the wrap inspector by activating "Object causes wrap" and the tab inspector should be useable, too. If the textbox and the shape behind it would be grouped (you can check this in the menu "Arrange" at the bottom) than you couldn't be able to set the border color or anything else then the size. But maybe I am sitting on my brain.
Of course there are eight handles! Who has mentioned there should be nine? Oh, errr..., my fault
Have a look at the metrics inspector. There is a checkbox titled "Constrain proportions". Uncheck it and you can resize the object like you want.
The best to get a reason of this "thingamajiggys" (how do you speak such a word without enough beer?) is to make a screenshot with layout guides and invisibles shown. Can you send me one or a few screenshots (of the first issue, too) to my e-mail address? You will find it by clicking on my user name in the left column of one of my posts. Or perhaps someone other has an idea.
