Moving PSE 10 organizer to PSE 11 organizer

I have been using PSE since PSE 7-I purchased 7, 10, and 11.  I am seriously looking for a better organizer solution.
My two catalogs worked fantastically well in the PSE 10 organizer - one click and just what I was looking for popped up.  Not now!  I am SOOOO done!
I repaired and optimized in PSE 10 - multiple times and still both catalogs (one with photos and one with digital scrapbooking supplies) refuse to convert properly.  The photo catalog did not convert many of my pictures and many are no longer tagged, along with missing tags.  The scrapbook catalog converted the Alaphabet folder and that's it and again, missing tags.
Searching the boards has been useless!
Any sane help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
There's no such bug. I mean navigation between files is the most operation one would do, how can that be buggy
You can double click an image to view it in Single Image View and use keyboard arrow keys to navigate left/right/up/down. Also double clicking an image which is fully zoomed out takes you back to previous zoom-in state where all thumbnails were visible.
You may also  try other views to arrange you media in grid - Thumbnails, Import Batch, Date View, Folder Location. These are available in 'Display' dropdown present on the top right corner of the application.
Thanks

If the app is designed correctly, the no, you won't. However, you'd have to ask the people who wrote the software, Adobe.

  • Moving PSE Files to Mac

I have used Photoshop Elements for Windows for several years to organize my photos.  I am now planning to purchase an Apple Mac PC with Photoshop Elements for Mac.  Can I migrate all my PSE files from the Windows version to the Mac version without losing any information?  I appreciate any feedback on this.

You have to enable Samba sharing if you want Windows to see your Mac.
    1. Click the Apple (top left of screen) then System Preferences.
    2. Click on Sharing
    3. Check File Sharing in the left-hand column
    4. Click Options... (lower right)
    5. Check Share Files and Folders using SMB
    6. Check the User Account you want to Share. Enter password.
    7. Click Done.
    8. Click Show all (at the top of the Sharing windows)
    9. Click Network
    10. Select Airport or Ethernet in the left-hand column (whichever you're using to access the network/internet)
    11. Note the listed IP address (it'll be a number like 192.68.22.22).
    12. Open Finder
    13. Note the name of your Home folder in the left-hand column (usually your name)
    14. With those two pieces of information, go to your PC.
    15. Open a My Computer window.
    16. In the address bar type \\yourIP_addressyour_Home_foldername
    17. Hit enter, it will ask you for your Username and password. Give your shortname for the username (the name of your Home folder) and your Mac Admin password. Hit enter.
Your home folder will mount in the window, you'll see the folders right there. On your PC, drag and drop any of your files/folders onto your Desktop on the Mac. When everything's copied over, shut down your PC and never use it again and put everything on your desktop on your Mac wherever you want it.

  • Moving PSE 8 to a new PC

I have to tranfer all my pictures, already catalogued on PSE8 to a new PC.
I will use a external HD.
The instructions by Bab O I have found in the forum still apply?
    Thank you for help

"First, information on the Elements Catalog location
If you have used the default PSE 3 Catalog name and location, you most probably will find it as
Filename of My Catalog.psa in folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalogs
Warning: This folder structure has a Windows Hidden Folder, so you must enable Viewing and Searching of Windows Hidden Folders in order to find your Catalog.
Well, the "fairly close" could be a bit of a nuisance if you use the CDs to copy to the new PC.
Elements stores the full Windows path name for the photo location - drive letter and entire folder tree including the User name if within the My Documents.
If your hard driver letter and the Windows Userid will be the same on the new system, then I would use an External Disk Drive (or a network connected drive) to copy the photo file tree structure(s) from the old PC to the new PC.
Then also copy the Catalog (location described above) and the folder contents under the "Catalog Folders" folder that will be near the location of the My Catalog.psa catalog file.
----- if you do want to use the CDs to copy the folder tree structures, then it sounds like most photo locations will be ok (if drive letter and Windows userid are the same) but some photos will need to be Reconnected (so the catalog knows their current location). Reconnecting large numbers of photo files in PSE 3 has been problematic for some people (but not all).
----- if your hard drive letter or Windows userid (if photos are in My Documents) will be different, then you can use an Elements Backup on the old PC and Elements Restore on the new PC. Then the catalog will have the correct location for the photo files. But sometimes the top level folder structure does not exactly duplicate what you had on the old PC; yet the significant lower levels should be OK.
In any case the Elements catalog database can be modified with Access (even by someone else on another PC) to change folder paths for the photo locations.

Incidentally, PSE 8 doesn't use access, but a version of SQLite instead.
I agree with that recommendation and will even say that it is better to ignore my older writeup that you located by searching because many considerations have changed between PSE 3 (for which mine was written) and the PSE 8 that you are currently using.
One of the considerations that people currently moving to a new PC may have is that their Windows operating system may be different on the new PC than it was on the old PC.  At the time PSE 3 was the most recent version, Windows XP was used by almost everyone.  Therefore my writeup did not address operating system differences.

  • Moving PSE 4 Catalog to Lightroom

I presently use Photoshop Elements 4.0.  Due to the bugs in PSE 8, I am thinking of buying
Lightroom and moving all my photos, tags, descriptions, etc. to Lightroom.
Am I going to encounter problems moving all my PSE 4 photos and catalog data to Lightroom, without losing data?
    Bob

Well, I guess I stick with PSE and its bugs.  I have lots of notes
on all my photos, so I would not want to lose them in the migration to LR.

  • Moving folder in Organizer corrupts contents

I just got Photoshop Elements for my wife, and she spent quite a bit of time renaming & tagging hundreds of our photos.
We just discovered that several folders of the images she'd been working on were corrupted... none of the jpegs were able to be opened in any software package I tried.
Luckily, all these files are on a zfs fileshare on my storage server, and I had a somewhat recent snapshot we were able to clone & use to restore the bad files.
And then it happened again, while I was watching her work -- she got done re-tagging a bunch of pictures in a subfolder, then in the Elements organizer application moved the subfolder into another one for "To Be Printed" -- and poof, all corrupt again.
Like I said above, the files are on a mapped network drive, shared from an OpenSolaris box via CIFS to my wifes laptop running Vista. It wasn't an issue of the file extension... the actual JPEG headers were corrupt. I haven't gone into the file with a hex editor to find out [but if it would help Adobe fix it I can repeat the process & send them some of the bad files for analysis].  And I'm very certain it wasn't a bad disk... zfs is one of the safest most uncorruptible filesystems available, and the data is stored on the equivalent of a RAID configuration. But even it can't fix data if the data it's told to write has logical errors introduced at a higher layer.
More than likely it's a peculiar (just speculating here) combination of the way Adobe Elements moves folders and the way Vista maps CIFS drives. I'm still Googling/Binging the problem, but haven't turned up anything yet. If I wasn't able to reliably reproduce it, I'd just call it a random quirk and have forgotten about it by now... but this is a bit odd. And it may impact the way I manage storage, as now I'll have look at how I persist my snapshots due to the uncertainty of when the corruption would be introduced.
Has anyone run into this before? Any thoughts/solutions? I have to say I'm very disappointed -- I had done quite the marketing job to sell her on using this software versus manually working on everything... only to find out we run the risk of losing irreplaceable photos every time she works in it.

    Hi,
If your catalog is corrupted you can repair it through File>Catalog , select the corrupted catalog and choose Repair. Hope that will help to great extent.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Also in order to avoid running into the risk of losing your work permanently you can choose to maintain an online account on www.Photoshop.com and use the back-up Sync feature of Elements Organizer to maintain a backup of your files, albums and tags to be able to recover them from you online account if you were to lose these permanently from your Desktop. You can sign in to the account from the Organizer and enable Backup/Sync through Edit>Preferences>Backup Sync Preferences.
    Thanks.

  • Moving PSE 7 From XP to Win 7

I have PSE 7 installed on Win XP. I have a new computer and want to install it under Win 7. I will "deactivate" the PSE install under XP and will re-install PSE 7 on the new computer under Win 7.
Two questions: 1) Will PSE 7 install and run okay under Win 7? Do I need "Compatibility Mode"?, 2) Do I just need to back up my current catalog (on the XP computer) and restore it to the PSE 7 running on the Win 7 computer?
Thanks for any and all help!

The generic issue of transferring files from Windows XP to Windows 7 is facilitated by use of the Belkin transfer cable:
    http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=506029
Be sure that files are not hidden.
The cable comes with software on a disk for installation on the XP machine, the software is already installed on the 7 machine. The connection is USB to USB.
Make preparation for transfer of contacts in your e-mail client, and also the Favorites.
"My Documents" files end up in Documents library, My Pictures in Pictures library, etc.
The PE catalog should transfer - see link to John Ellis provided in a prior post.

yes, the behaviour is corret. The old one can not see the new data but the new one the old. It's like a personal file where the new manager has access to and the old only knows what was entered up to the end of his responsibility.

  • PSE8 Organizer does not display added .jpg's

I cannot find a way to get PSE8 Orgamizer to display newly added files.  I have clicked on every "Show All" I can find.  The only way I can see the new files is to build a new catalog.
This is on a new PC with Win7.
    Please help!

    Hi GaryKuep,
What you have written here sounds like what I do in PSE9 and it worked fine...until today. The catalog I've been working with had a mere 5,000 files in it. I was adding files and moving things around between drives and suddenly the catalog had about 65,000 files in it- 60,000 of which were hidden. I could not find the hidden files anywhere and I certainly did not add 60,000. Then I noticed some of my other, smaller catalogs were acting strange. I would be working with the 5,000 file catalog and the program would suddenly switch over to one of the smaller catalogs. I ended up purging the PSE Organizer preference folder, deleting ALL the catalogs, restarting my computer, and making all new catalogs. The problem seems to have cleared up once I was able to finally delete the 5,000 file catalog...I think. Deleting the 5,000 file catalog was not easy. The programwould not let me just delete it in the normal way through the catalog manager, until I restarted my computer. I'm not sure just what cleaned things up but everything seems to be working ok now.
I suspect something I'm doing confuses the program. When I moved folders between drives I think the program got lost, (I was moving PSE things to larger drives when I realized just how big these PSE catalogs and related file folders, etc were becoming.)
If this all sounds confused, well, that's were I am with it as well...confused.

  • Organizer

Ihave just installed Photo Shop Elements 11. I am new this program. I loaded all my photps from i-photo into PSE 11. Now I have dozens of un-named files and albums.
Can I delete them? If so, how do I do that and if I do, will they staty in photp-shop?
Whats the difference between an album and a file?

Okay, just hopping in and moving everything to organizer was a little precipitate. Just delete all the duplicate photos that PSE made (import from iphoto is the only time PSE makes copies; normally it's a just a database of your existing images, but it can't get into the iphoto library and you don't want it to) and I'd suggest exporting a few photos from iphoto, putting them where you want to keep them and experimenting to be sure you prefer organizer to iphoto before going whole hog on this.
There are tutorials on using organizer under the Help menu.
A file is a single document, like a photo. An album is a collection of photos, just like it is in iphoto.
You can use organizer if you decide you prefer it, or you can go on using iphoto and set PSE as your external editor for that, or export the photos as new files, edit them and reimport the edited files as new photos.

  • Multiple problems with PSE10 Organizer

I have Photoshop Elements 10 that I am using with Windows XP with Service Pack 3, a Pentium 4 CPU with 3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 48.6 GB of free disk space. I have had multiple problems with Organizer since I started using it.
When I first got PSE10, I imported 8 years of my photos into one catalog in Organizer. I'm not sure how many images were included in this catalog but from what I've read, there's no limit to the number of images that can be placed in a catalog.
Question: Is there any limit to the number of images that can be put into one catalog?
    Catalog A
Problem 1) People recognition didn't work. When I tried to find people for tagging, the feature didn't work. After researching the problem online, I found that others who had the same problem solved it by rebuilding the catalog a few hundred images at a time. I deleted the original catalog with all of my images and created a new catalog with just 800 images from this year. Then, people recognition worked, and I was able to tag people. The only other feature that I have used in Catalog A is that I have edited a few images to improve exposure. I have not rated images, stacked them, renamed them or created albums. With this catalog, the Organizer and the Editor still work together so when I select a photo in Organizer to fix, the Editor opens up with the photo for editing like it is supposed to do.
    Catalog B
I created another catalog that had about 900 different images from a European tour. I deleted some of those images so there are now 760 images in this catalog. At first, all the Organizer features seemed to work fine in this catalog. I was able to pull photos from Organizer to fix in the Editor. I rated all the images, stacked and renamed some photos and created several albums under an album category.
Problem 2) A couple of days ago, the Organizer and the Editor stopped working together. Now, when I select a photo in Organizer and click on Fix, Edit, the Editor window comes up but the photo does not appear in Editor. The only way I can get an image into Editor is to pull it directly into Editor. Then, when I want to save it as a Version Set I have to choose File> Organize Open File in order to save the image as a version set.
Question: How do I get the Organizer & Editor to work together again?
Problem 3) The Exif data has disappeared on quite a few of the images in Catalog B even though the Complete radio button is highlighted under the Properties panel. Some of those images were never edited or re-saved.
Question: How do I get the Exif data back into Properties.
Problem 4) Yellow question marks continue to appear on the top left of some images even though these images have not been moved. The Organizer searches for the "missing file" and finds it quickly but why is it "missing"? I have gone through the albums in this catalog, completed the missing file searches on all the images so that no yellow question marks appear and when I go back to the catalog the next time I find the yellow question marks are there again!
Question: Why does Organizer think the files are missing? Why isn't the file location remaining the same?
Problem 5) When I re-opened Catalog A with the general 2012 images, I got a message that my watched folder had new photos to import. When I clicked on ok, the next window brought up 3 photos that were already in Catalog B of my European tour that were taken in September. Somehow, the Date Created and the Dated modified had been changed from 9/12 to 11/12 so the Organizer thought they were new images when they were not.
Questions: Shouldn't the Date Created remain constant?  The Date Created does not seem to represent the date the picture was taken, so what does that date represent? How can I keep the date created from being changed?
    Both Catalogs
All of the images in both catalogs show creation dates that are later than the date modified, (example: date created of 6/12 and a date modified of 3/12).
Question: How is it possible that the date created is later than the date modified?

    Hey Paysonite,
A lot of questions hmm!!! Let me try to answer few of them.
Question: Is there any limit to the number of images that can be put into one catalog?
Ans: No, you can import as many images in catalog you want. Just to add, as the size of catalog grows, Organizer's perfromance will be affected.
Question: Why does Organizer think the files are missing? Why isn't the file location remaining the same?
Ans: As you mentioned in your comments, you have deleted some files (i assume from explorer). But these deleted files are still present in Organizer. Since the deletion happened outside the organizer, so Organizer is unaware of the deletion. So when organizer tries to read the files (which were deleted), Organizer is unable to find then and thus thinks that files are missing.
Questions: Shouldn't the Date Created remain constant?  The Date Created does not seem to represent the date the picture was taken, so what does that date represent? How can I keep the date created from being changed?
Ans: Date created represents the date on which the files was created on your files system (or into OS). It is not date when the images was shot (actual shot date is Date time Original in Organizer).
Question: How is it possible that the date created is later than the date modified?
Ans: A simple way to do it is-Suppose you have an image which was brought/copied on July (i am explaining this with the help of month only. Assume date to be 1st and year to 2012). Now change the system date to August. Edit this image in Editor (without creating a version set for easy illustration). Now date created is July and date modified is Aug.
Copy this fine on flash drive/pen drive. Delete the original file from windows. Change the system date to Sept. Now copy the file in windows and see its properties. It has Date created as Sept and date modified as Aug, which answers you question.
I am unable to fully understand your remaining questions. Please elaborate.
Also please let me know if you need more info with above answers.

  • Adjust Palette Height in Organizer V4.0

b Does anyone know why their are no handlers on my properties box? I am not able to resize it like it says to do in item "C" below. I am unable to drag this box up or down and it is barely visible in my organizer. In the Elements help program it says to do this:
b To work with palettes in the Organizer
In the Organizer, the Organize Bin appears on the right side of the work area. This bin stores multiple palettes in a single drawer that you can open to access the palettes, or close to expand the photo window.
The Tags and Collections palettes are locked in place and cannot be moved.
    The Organize Bin
i A. Click to show or hide Palette Bin or drag left or right to adjust palette width B. Collapse or expand palette C. Drag up or down to adjust palette height D. Show or hide Organize Bin E. Close palette

b Ok, here is how you fix the problem of the missing gray "Resize Handle " bar attached to the properties dialog box in the organizer.
i remember to always backup your catalog before deleting program files.
b Close all running Photoshop programs before proceeding!
b Open the explorer (Windows) program and expand the c:/Documents and Settings folder to find the following folder: Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/4.0/Organizer.
i Now inside the Organizer folder are two .dat files. First delete the status.dat file and then minimize the explorer program.
i Next open Elements and see if the resize handler is visible (note that the properties checkbox under "Window" on the main toolbar should be checked.
i If it is visible then close explorer. Elements will rewrite the status.dat file. If it is not, close Elements and go back to explorer and delete the customer.dat file.
Now you can close Explorer an reopen Elements and the resize handle should be there.

  • PSE 9 Organizer Slide show can't find the slide show project files after moving from XP to Windows 7

A bad computer virus forced us to move all our files and programs from XP to Windows 7.  The PSE Editor seems to be working properly, but the Organizer Slide Show can't find the project files.  The structure of each of the 15 slide shows (blank slides) is there and any text I had added, but the pictures and music are missing.  Our computer Tech is not too familiar with PSE and may not have the files in the right spot.  Evidently XP and Windows 7 are organized a little differently and use different names.  He still has all the PSE files from our old hard drive in a folder and probably just needs to know where to put them.

+Windows Vista has different file locations than Windows XP+
This is the problem - the iTunes ITL file from XP is using XP paths, which don't exist in Vista. Here are some directions that have worked for others:
    - Copy your entire iTunes folder --- not just the iTunes Music folder but basically everything under "My Documents" - to external storage
    - Copy those files to your "Music" folder on your Vista system. The end result should be that you have "Documents\Music\iTunes" on Vista, where you had "My Documents\My Music\iTunes" on XP
    - Put a fresh install of iTunes on the Vista system.
    - When you run iTunes for the first time, hold down the Shift key. If it asks you to select a library file, pick the one you just transferred over.
    - The end result should be your library, including all ratings, play counts and play lists, sitting on the new system.
