Mplayer and live-media

Just a suggestion for mplayer in testing. Make it depend on live-media and compile with --enable-live --with-livelibdir=/usr/lib/live-media/
Although I still can't watch the MacWorld Expo stream from here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf05/ :cry:

Live directory's in /usr/lib/live/liveMedia in my box, wich has live 2006.01.05-1 & mplayer-cvs compiled with live support.
Modified PKGBUILD :
--enable-live --with-livelibdir=/usr/lib/live
Still I cannot play that stream neither

My MacBook cannot resolve the alias when attempting to connect to LAN wired devices (WD Live Media Centre), and says operation can't be comp-leted because the original item can't be found.???

I have 2 WD Live Media Centre devices hard-wired on my LAN. My MacBook can find these devices on the network, but when it tries to access the USB drive which is attached to the media centres, a message says the Mac it "resolving the alias to USB drive", but then says operation can't be completed because the roiginal item (USB Drive) can't be found. My PC, which is also hard-wired on the network, has no problem accessing these USB drives. Is there some adjustment I need to make?

Well, try this (I was able to fix my with these steps):
Go Utilities > Disk Utility
Select your Startup Disk, e.g. Macintosh HD
Then, under the First Aid Tab, click Verify Disk Permissions.
If there are errors, then click repair Disk Permissions.
After it is done, restart the computer and see if your problem is resolved.

Capture and transmit live media

I am doing a project that capture live media from a capture device and transmit it to a client. Currently I can capture and transmit, but the problem is when I start transmit, the local player stops playing. If I clone datasource and use the cloned datasource for transmitting, the local player does not stop after it starts transmitting, but the remote site can't receive any stream. In short, my problem is I can't make the local and remote sites play captured media simultaniously. I tried JM Studio and it works, but I can't understand how they implement it. It seems that they didn't use cloned datasource. Anyone who have this kind of experience please help me. Thanks a lot.

If you want to display video while transmiting it you can use the MonitorControl. Consult the jmf guide and solutions or this same forum.
But MonitorControl can be a complex solution, specially if you want to monitor video+audio.
You can also use clones. You need undestand that the clones depend of its original datasource, so this origin have to be connected to the clone works. Consult google or this same forum to more info.

Live-media-2006.10.12a-1

live-media is "A set of C++ libraries for multimedia streaming" especially usefull with RTSP Servers.
As I was going to compile mplayer with stream support on Arch 64, I noticed that live-media in /extra is outdated : 2006.03.03 when 2006.10.12a is available.
New version supports stuff like H264VideoRTPSink for transmitting H.264/RTP streams, updated H364VideoRTPSink, MPEG2TransportStreamFromESSource.
Here a proposal for an updated PKGBUILD:

It compiled & installed fine, namcap says nothing. dunno why mplayer complains about "missing" 'liveMedia.hh' & other '.hh' libs as they _are_ in /usr/lib/live-media/ !

This live-media allows to listen rtp/rtsp stream with vlc or mplayer. Question is how to create such a stream with arch box? Like now I use mpd and icecast to do http streaming, which can be only listened from one source at the time due to different delays.
I would like to have synchronized audio from 3 boxes running mplayers in my house. Mplayer is required as xbox uses mplayer. I cannot find a player and streamer combination that could do rtp/rtsp stream.
I could not get this to work http://www.live555.com/mediaServer
Apple darwin streaming server looks a bit difficult to build ( http://www.streamingmedia.com/tutorials … ial_id=143 ).
Flumotion did not seem to have rtp support included yet or does gstreamers rtp support work?

[solved]X11: MGA driver issues: video playback (mplayer) and 3D

I am new to Arch, but I am not new to Linux. I installed Arch yesterday, before I was experimenting with it in VirtualBox and -to test the compatibility with my real hardware- I also tried the "Archie" live CD.
But there was one thing that the combination of VirtualBox and Archie could not test: the X Window System itself, because in Archie there was an older and VESA-only version and you could not upgrade it and VirtualBox was, well, virtual.
I have a Matrox card G550, so I installed the xf86-video-mga package. At first it did not work at all (blank screen), but when I switched the console from framebuffer to "normal" text mode it started working, but...
1) the 3D performance (glxgears) is about half of the FPS I got on my previous Linux system
2) when I tried to play video with mplayer, xine or vlc, there was blue screen instead of the picture. - I can send you a screenshot, but it's just a blue box where the picture should be
I discovered, that this bluescreen thing is "solved" with some arcane xorg.conf option I discovered with "man mga" - in fact, I tried each of the options in hope for this to fix:

but this thing slows the 3D performance even more, so the OpenGL version of Doom is not playable any more :(
Also the mplayer itself behaves differently than on my old Linux: When I resize the window or go fullscreen, on the old system it resized or fullscreened the entire picture and now just the window is bigger and the picture remains the same. I solved this with -vo sdl, but it seems the picture has poorer quality in this case
at all, I think something is missing in the xorg configuration, because the mplayer and 3D behavior suggest so.

the solution was to downgrade the x server and matrox drivers
(I found the old packages at http://mir2.archlinuxfr.org/archlinux/c … i686.old/)

Firefox and gecko media player crashing

Hi, first post in the forum, hoping someone might know what is happening here.
Whenever I try to play a video in firefox using gecko media player, firefox crashes.
The output in xterm is:

Ya, I might just switch to mplayer plugin. That worked ok for me in my last distro (ubuntu). Gecko seems fairly good though, it's a pity. Google doesn't give much help either.

[SOLVED]mplayer and urxvt problems after update

Couple of days back, I updated xorg-server, like most of the people around here, so I asume that issues I`m going to describe, could be related to xorg-server being recently updated.
First issue is related to mplayer not playing movies in fullscreen format, despite being told to do so. The image size of a video is about 20% of screen resolution size, while the rest of the screen is just black.

I tried switching between many different video out drivers, the only one that plays video normaly is x11, but the image size is very small.
I`m using vesa driver and my video card is

I found a partial solution to mplayer problem in this tread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=60054 where patroclo7 stated, that from this update on, X is using autodetection and doesn`t need xorg.conf anymore.
Anyways I followed the advice deleted my xorg.conf and rebooted arch without xorg.conf. Everything works, even the video in mplayer is running at normal size, however the default screen resolution is a bit to high.
I would like to set it to 1024x768 (monitor, philips 107E5) but don`t have a clue how to change screen resolution without xorg.conf being present. I`m using openbox as a standalone wm.
I still have a backup of my working xorg.conf file, so I can switch between xorg.conf and the other config.
Just for the record, video files are displayed properly using vlc as media player on both described configurations.
To sum everything up, how to set screen resolution at 1024x 768 without xorg.conf being present or how to fix mplayer displaying movies in a very small screen/box, despite running in fullscreen mode (using xorg.conf).
My second problem is regarding urxvt and its borderless. If I set it to true urxvt hangs on start everytime. The terminal is displayed in top left corner of the screen but it`s frozen and can`t be used, while being set to false works like a charm.

The solution for mplayer using xorg.conf file as follows:
To get fullscreen video working just add
zoom = yes
to /.mplayer/config
In case if you are using gui for mplayer and get the following error trying to play a video file
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device
Open /.mplayer/gui.conf and change vo_driver from "xv" to "x11".

Live media encoder not recognizing my camera

I am working on a MacBook Pro with a Sony PMW-EX3 HD camera connected through iLink with a Firewire 800. My iMovie recognizes the camera, so I know it is not the computer. However, in Live Media Encoder 3,1, I am not allowed to choose my Sony camera for input. It is like Live Media Encoder does not recognize the camera.
Any ideas?

Is the camera on or in the mode to output to firewire when you have it connected to FMLE? I also have experienced devices not showing up when connected when the device is not on or sending out a picture. They also don't show up usually when you connect it or turn it on when FMLE is already running (which can be fixed by closing it and restarting the program).

Are you talking about Adobe media Live encoder and "Adobe media Server"...Just can publish from "Adobe media Live encoder" and publish to "Adobe media server"..

Here is our problem:
Playback of flv using Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Media Interactive Server jerky.
Playback ok if using Flash Player 10.0 with Flash Media Interactive Server.
1. Record live using Flash Media Interactive Server
2. Attempt to play back resulting flv using Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Media Interactive Server.
Video plays ok for a few seconds and then plays faster than as recorded -- very jerky.
Audio plays at normal rate.
OS: Windows 7 64bit (two different machines. All updates installed.)
Web browser: FireFox 3.6.10 and IE8 8.0.7600.16385
Flash version: 10.1.85.3
Tried with hardware acceleration on and off.
Note: Also had another person report the same thing on a Mac.
We had been using Flex 3, so we tried building with Flash Builder 4 – had the same problem.
This is a show stopper for us.
Tried using Wowza and everything worked.
We’re dropping FMIS and switching to Wowza.
If someone can suggest something else to try, we would appreciate it.

So if I understand correctly, your findings are:
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Flash Media Interactive Server = Jerky Video
Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Flash Media Interactive Server = Smooth Video
Flash Player 10.1.85.3 + Wowza = Smooth Video
And what about Flash Player 10.0.x.x + Wowza?
Also, if you could check the network traffic to confirm if it's Flash Player causing the issue or it is receiving it like that from FMIS.

Capture Card for Flash Live Media Encoder

I need help finding the best capture card for the flash live media encoder. Any suggestions?

The problem you have is that your game and FMLE are competing for CPU time. Running FMLE is very CPU-intensive because of the work of encoding video. When FMLE consumes all your CPU there is nothing left to run the game. Instead of cropping I would suggest that you change your monitor resolution to 1280x720 (this is still HD, just not 1080 "full HD"). Increasing the screen size then cropping it back down is just another task you are throwing at the CPU that it can't cope with.

Is the Flash Live Media Encoder 3.2 compatible with MAC Yosemite?

I am trying to download the Flash Live Media Encoder 3.2. I can download the file but when I try to open it, I get an error message that says "Image not recognized."
Is this media encoder compatible with Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)? If not, are there any work arounds?

Backing up and restoring media files

Can anyone help me with the issue of seemingly not being able to backup my entire iphone (including photos, apps and music) and then restoring it all to a new iphone 4s?
I was contacted recently by my network provider to let me know I was elligible for an upgrade, which I accepted. They then sent me my new phone a day later, and I encountered the issue of what to do with everything on my 'now old' phone.
I spoke to my provider, and they advised me that to keep everything on my phone, all I would need to do would be to back-up my phone in itunes on my laptop, plug my new phone in and 'restore from back-up' - I made it perfectly clear that I had no media in my itunes, as I had been through a few different laptops since the time I originally bought my phone nearly two years ago. They made it perfectly clear that that wouldn't be an issue, and all media from my old phone would be backed-up to my computer, then restored to my new phone.
I have done exactly what I was advised to do, and alas, only my e-mails, contacts, messages and call log have been transferred to my new phone. Any help?
