Mplayer cache option greatly reduces performance

Hi. I needed a larger cache because I have some videos stored on another samba server and it's laggy.
I set options: cache=20000, cache-min=10 , and that helped to play those videos smoothly, but that caused all 1280x720 mp4 files stored on my local drive to lag and A/V desync with mplayer message:
**** Your system is too SLOW to play this!  ****
I tried cache values from 1000 to 80000, and they lag in any case. But without the option "cache" these videos play well.
Now I commented "cache" in config.
[default]
#cache=65536
#cache-min=10
ao=alsa
softvol=yes
subcp=enca:ru:cp1251
af=pan=2:1:0:0:1:1:0:0:1:0.5:0.5:1:1
ass=yes

you can use different config for your local usage.

  • Greatly reduced action performance in CS5

The bug issue text below wouldn't fit in the bug report form even though it's less than 2000 characters (another bug, perhaps?)
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement:  reduced performance in Action processing in CS5 compared to CS3
    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1. Create an image file, 8000 by 9880 pixels 16-bit RGB color.
    2. The background can be any image, though I was using a scan of a test target with colored patches for scanner calibration.
    3.  Create a layer "final target" on top of the background.  Set contents to transparent.
    4.  Create a selection 295 pixels on a side with rectangular marquee tool.  Position this selection in the upper left corner.
    5.  Save the selection to an alpha channel "Grid Box."
    6.  Run an action with the following steps.
    a.  Load the selection "Grid Box."
    b.  Select the layer "final target"
    c.  Expand the selection 2 pixels.
    d.  Fill the selection with the foreground color.
    e.  Set the foreground color to white.
    f.  Select the background layer.
    g.  Move the selection 295 pixels to the right.
    h.  Save the new selection as "Grid Box", replacing the channel.
    The use of this action:
Use the eyedropper tool to select a color from the center of the selected square, then use the magic wand tool to subtract from the selection using the color in the center of the square in contiguous mode with tolerance set to 8.  Then run the action, and repeat the above process in the next selected square.  In the scan I am preparing, there is a grid of colored squares surrounded by a large black border.  The final result needs the black border eliminated so that the colored squares completely butt up against each other spaced 295 pixels apart.
So by running the action, the color in the center of each box is copied to fill the rest of the square selected area that's black, leaving the center portion intact.   The copied colors go on the "final target" layer so the background layer is not disturbed.
If you need a copy of the action and/or the image file, contact me by email.
Results:  In CS5 the action is unusable due to the long run time.
Expected results:  In CS3 it works perfectly.

My theory initially was that you had given Photoshop just enough RAM to work efficiently with your CS3 setup, but perhaps because of differences in your Photoshop RAM setting or perhaps because Photoshop CS5 has more code in memory, it's starving for RAM under the same test, and goes to its scratch file for relief.
I created a test image and tried your action with a stopwatch.
Photoshop CS5 x64 on Windows 7 x64 (i.e., with plenty of RAM) takes 1.8 seconds to run through your action.
Photoshop CS5 32 bit consistently takes 6.8 seconds to go through the same steps.   Notably it stalls on the Expand and Select layer "Background" steps for a few seconds each, where it blazed right through them in the 64 bit version.
In my case I have given Photoshop CS5 2897 MB to work with (89%).  This number is larger on a 64 bit system than what you can set because Photoshop 32 bit can use up to a 3 GB address space.
I'll do tests next with earlier versions of Photoshop.
    -Noel

  • Greatly reduced reception

    Problem:
I'm experiencing greatly reduced reception/range with my PowerBook wireless connections. More than 15 feet away from my base station can cause dropped or intermittent connections or complete loss of signal. Any line of sight interference - a wall, a window, a chair, my leg - will cause signal problems.
    Notes:
*This computer, base station and Airport card used to have fantastic range and reception on this and all other wireless networks.
*I now have awful range on all wireless networks.
*All other computers have great reception on my network.
*The problem seemed to come on gradually, rather than all at once.
    I've tried:
*Checking/re-seating the Airport card and connections to the computer.
*Checking antenna connection to the card.
*Inspected antenna wire and checked continuity.
*Swapping in other Airport cards known to work well.
*Zapped PRAM over the course of the problem.
    None of the above helps.
Any ideas? What else in the computer affects reception besides the Airport card and the antenna?
This is a PowerBook G4 Titanium, running 10.4.10.
    Thank you

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like KisMAC, MacStumbler, iStumbler, or IPNetMonitorX to determine potential areas of interference...and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them.

  • Manage Cache option grayed out in online RPD

Ran into a problem today, trying to perform manual caching but cache option is grayed out when ascessing manage cache option, this is happening even though i have enabled the cache option in the NQSConfig file as follows
    ENABLE=YES
YET IT IS GRAYED OUT WHEN I DO FILE -OPEN-MANAGE-CACHE, HAVE ALSO TRIED BOUNCING THE BI SERVER BUT NO LUCK.
    ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.
    Thanks in advance
    LARRY

What version of OBIEE are you using? Assuming you are using 11g, providing a solution to enable cache in RPD.
    1) Go to enterprise Manager.
    2) Navigate to Business Intelligence > Core Application
    3) Click on capacity Management tab > Performance
    4) Lock and edit > Make sure cache enabled option is checked. ( This will add an entry to your NQSConfig file.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Award points if helpful.

  • Using In-Memory Database Cache option need help

    Hi,
    I need some help:
I am using Oracle 10g Server Release 2
For Clientele activilty I am using Oracle Client where the Application resides.
For Better performance I want to use the In-Memory Database Cache option Times-Ten Database.
Is it possible to do so where there is Oracle Database Server Relaease 2 and in the Client there is Times-Ten In-Memory Database Cache?
Any help will be needful for me

In-Memory Cache is a server-side cache. I can not see where there would be any value putting it on the client side though given the license cost per CPU core I am sure the entire Oracle sales force would gladly disagree with me.

  • Keep cache option

could anyone explain me if i use keep cache option for the static table, whether it'll have impact to the SGA memory?(I believe the table stored in cache buffer)

According to Oracle document "A good candidate for a segment to put into the KEEP pool is a segment that is smaller than 10% of the size of the DEFAULT buffer pool and has incurred at least 1% of the total I/Os in the system"
so if u load a large table to buffer cache, it will occupy many memory, which could be free for other process. In turn, insufficient buffer cache occurs, the database performance will be worsen.

  • Where did the Empty Cache option go?

I recently did a software update for Safari and the Empty Cache option under Safari in the tool bar is no longer there. I use this ALL the time, any idea where it is?
    Thanks!

Apparently it's been omitted from the latest Safari update however you can enable the Develop menu and clear the cache from there.
From your Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now from the menu bar again click Develop > Empty Caches

  • "In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition

    Hi,
In one of our applications, we are using TimesTen 5.1.24 and Oracle 9i
    databases (platform - Solaris 9i).
TimesTen holds application information which needs to be accessed quickly
and Oracle 9i is a master application database.
Now we are looking at an option of migrating from Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g
database. While exploring about Oracle 10g features, came to know about
"In-Memory Database Cache" option for Oracle Enterprise Edition. This made
me to think about using Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition with "In-Memory
Database Cache" option for our application.
Following are the advantages that I could visualize by adopting the
    above-mentioned approach:
    1. Data reconciliation between Oracle and TimesTen is not required (i.e.
data can be maintained only in Oracle tables and for caching "In-Memory
    Database Cache" can be used)
    2. Data maintenance is easy and gives one view access to data
I have following queries regarding the above-mentioned solution:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
In "Options and Packs" chapter in Oracle documentation
    (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/license.102/b14199/options.htm
#CIHJJBGA), I encountered the following statement:
"For the purposes of licensing Oracle In-Memory Database Cache, only the
processors on which the TimesTen In-Memory Database component of the
In-Memory Database Cache software is installed and/or running are counted
for the purpose of determining the number of licenses required."
We have servers with the following configuration. Is there a way to get the
count of processors on which the Cache software could be installed and/or
    running? Please assist.
Production box with 12 core 2 duo processors (24 cores)
Pre-production box with 8 core 2 duo processors (16 cores)
Development and test box with 2 single chip processors
Development and test box with 4 single chip processors
Development and test box with 6 single chip processors
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijay

    Hi Vijay,
    regarding your questions:
    1. What is the difference between "TimesTen In-Memory Database" and
"In-Memory Database Cache" in terms of features and licensing model?
==> Product has just been renamed and integrated better with the Oracle database - Times-Ten == In-Memory-Cache-Database
    2. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option integrated with Oracle 10g
installable or a separate installable (i.e. TimesTen installable with only
    cache feature)?
    ==> Seperate Installation
    3. Is "In-Memory Database Cache" option same as that of "TimesTen Cache
Connect to Oracle" option in TimesTen In-Memory Database?
    ==> Please have a look here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/timesten/quickstart/cc_qs_index.html
    This explains the differences.
    4. After integrating "In-Memory Database Cache" option with Oracle 10g, data
access will happen only through Oracle sqlplus or OCI calls. Am I right here
    in making this statement?
==> Please see above mentioned papers
    5. Is it possible to cache the result set of a join query in "In-Memory
    Database Cache"?
    ==> Again ... ;-)
    Kind regards

  • How to atomate caching options for all pages?

    Hi,
    Customer request:
Does there exist a means of automating caching option for all the pages of a page group or a portal?

Depends on the view technology you´re using for JSF.
If you're using JSP, use jsp:include.
If you're using Facelets, use ui:include.
Consult the documentation of the view technology used for details.

  • Clear Project Cache option .cpd

    Hi,
I'm using RH8. When my project was taking forever to open up, from past experience I knew it was due to a large .cpd file. Sure enough, it was up to 11 MB and after deleting it, the new .cpd file is only about 1 MB now. Opens much faster now. RoboHelp 8 has the option "Clear project cache (.cpd file) before opening any project". By default this is not checked off. If I check this off, will this put a halt to the issue of getting large .cpd files? Any reason not to check this off?
    Thanks!

When I use the Clear Project Cache option .cpd, I also get tons of broken links.
The only solution that I have found that works for me is:
    1. Make a backup of your project.
    2. Delete the CPD file and the XPJ file.
    3. Then, open RoboHelp and from RoboHelp, open the HHP file.
When you use this method, the conditional tags are usually gone from the Conditional Tag pod. All you have to do is add new conditional tags with the same name as the conditional tags that you had in the project.
You can open the last backup file and make a list of the conditional tags, then add them to your project.
    Good luck,
    Debbie

I want to reduce pdf size up to 5mb for mailing perpose, anybody have any option to reduce it since I have used optimizer & reduce file size option but its not helpful.

The optimizer can reduce space, but some things can't get smaller. Text for example. Play with the settings, examine the results of Audit Space Usage.
Or give up. Even 5 MB is too large for a bulk mailing, by far. Instead put it on your web site and mail a link - done!

  • Does vector reduces performance

    Hi,
it is said that vector is serializable and thread safe
    so it is slow
ny doubt is if we declare and use vector in a local method then it is not shared with others does still the fact that vector is serializable reduces performance
    is using arraylist better
i have seen code of many people using vectors
if vectors are not to be used we have to be careful
about vectors is using arraylist better than vector
for same functionality or which is better to use
if requirement is to store string array which can
extend to any number of items

    Hi,
Vectors are extremely slow, due to it being synchronized. An ArrayList is a lot faster than a Vector, but if possible, I'd look at just a plain old array. Arrays are extremely faster than both ArrayList or a Vector. The problem is that arrays don't automatically resize. So it really depends on your design. If you do end up going with a Vector, don't use an Enumeration of Iterator to iterate over the Vector. A lot of unnecessary objects are created, etc... Get the size of the vector at use a simple loop, which is more compact and quicker....

  • Where do I find the enable cache option in CS5?

Where do I find the enable cache option in CS5?

First, define the site.  Go to Site > Manage Sites.  Enter the Local site folder where you want to keep your files.
Under servers, add the  FTP log-in details for your remote site as provided to you by your web host.
Root directory is where your hosting provider told you to upload the publicly accessible files.  Commonly used root folders include public_html, www or htdocs but this varies by host.  If unsure, contact your hosting provider for details.
When you're done defining your site, hit TEST to verify connection and then SAVE your settings.
In the DW Files Panel (F8) click on Remote Server and hit the green Down Arrow to GET files from remote site to your local site folder.
