MS ACCESS 2010 VBA Excel Close

I am using Window 7 SP1, and MS Office 2010. I am running queries in Access 2010, and writing the results in a report to Excel 2010, and noted that the instance of Excel does not terminate from the process listing. To make sure that it is not my code, I
have stripped it down basics.
1. The following code opens and terminates Excel as expected:
  Public Sub Test()
Dim strRptDirPath As String: strRptDirPath = "C:\Projects\WeeklyAlarms\Report\"
    Dim xlApp As Object,
'   Dim xlWkBk As Object
'   Dim xlWkSht As Object
Dim strRptTl As String: strRptTl = "Report Template.xls"
Dim strRptSht As String: strRptSht = "Rpt"
    Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
         xlApp.Visible = False
'    Set xlWkBk = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(strRptDir & strRptTl)
'    Set xlWkSht = xlWkBk.Worksheets(strRptSht)
'        xlWkSht.Cells(1, 1).Value = "TEST 1"
'        xlWkSht.Cells(2, 2).Value = "TEST 2"
'        xlWkSht.Cells(3, 3).Value = "TEST 3"
'        xlWkBk.SaveAs (strRptDirPath & "TESTING.xls")
'        xlWkBk.Close True
        xlApp.Quit
'    Set xlWkSht = Nothing
'    Set xlWkBk = Nothing
    Set xlApp = Nothing
End Sub
2. However, if i reference the workbook, the Excel process instance does not terminate. Searches through talk topics make references to the process terminating after a timeout 'ping' a period after Access closes - this is not the case here.
Public Sub Test()
Dim strRptDirPath As String: strRptDirPath = "C:\Projects\WeeklyAlarms\Report\"
    Dim xlApp As Object,
   Dim xlWkBk As Object
'   Dim xlWkSht As Object
Dim strRptTl As String: strRptTl = "Report Template.xls"
Dim strRptSht As String: strRptSht = "Rpt"
    Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
         xlApp.Visible = False
    Set xlWkBk = xlApp.Workbooks.Open(strRptDir & strRptTl)
'    Set xlWkSht = xlWkBk.Worksheets(strRptSht)
'        xlWkSht.Cells(1, 1).Value = "TEST 1"
'        xlWkSht.Cells(2, 2).Value = "TEST 2"
'        xlWkSht.Cells(3, 3).Value = "TEST 3"
        xlWkBk.SaveAs (strRptDirPath & "TESTING.xls")
        xlWkBk.Close True
        xlApp.Quit
'   Set xlWkSht = Nothing
    Set xlWkBk = Nothing
    Set xlApp = Nothing
End Sub
I have un-checked Microsoft Excel 14.0 Object library reference. I don't think i have made any global reference calls. I cant see what I am doing incorrectly.

Hi totally,
I made a simple test with your two methods, and I could not reproduce your issue. Both of the methods have open the excel process and terminated after the methods. I am wondering when you checked the excel process. Before you test the method, if the excel
process has been started up, then your method would open another excel process and would terminate the excel process which was started up by the method. The original excel process would not be terminated.
I think you could terminate all of the excel process before testing your methods, and when debugging the methods, open the task manager to check whether the excel process would be created and terminated.

Edward

  • Access 2010 VBA - multiple overlayed graphics

I'd like to create a stacked bar chart from one table and then overlay two line charts from different tables over top of the bar -- essentially showing three variables in different ways. Is there a way to overlay graphic types in Access 2010?
If not, then can it be done with Access controlling Excel?
    ajw

If you create a resulting query, which has all three variables in it, why not. The process is the same as in Excel. Create the stacked bar chart for all the tree variables, then go to chart Design view, choose consequently the second and the third series
and change chart type to line.
Of course, if you want more flexibility, beauty and other whistles, you can use Excel Automation to do this within Excel from Access.

  • Access 2010: Using VBA to xport table to Excel, then modify the excel workbook externally?

I've got some tables in Access which I export to Excel using VBA. Once exported, I'd like to add some pivot tables, special formatting and formulas into the workbook.  Any idea how to do this?  Here are some specific tasks after the export:
    1. Insert a pivot table into a 2nd sheet.  The pivot table will have a filter field.
    2. Format the column widths in that pivot table and add some conditional cell colors
Anybody know how to code this?   I assume I'll need to export from access then open the excel file and use excel object model from within access?
    ajw

You can certainly import Access tables into Excel:

    http://www.erlandsendata.no/english/index.php?d=envbadacimportdao

    See this too.
    http://www.accessmvp.com/KDSnell/EXCEL_Export.htm#WriteRstFile
    http://www.accessmvp.com/KDSnell/EXCEL_Export.htm#ExpCopyFromRst
That's just several similar, but slightly different, ways to do the same thing.  Once your data is in Excel, turn on the Macro Recorder and run through the steps you need to do, to get the Pivot Table the way you want it, then turn off the Macro Recorder
    and view the code.
You will almost certainly need to make some modifications to the recorded code, because everything will be fixed (hard-coded).  Post back with additional questions, or start a new thread, to see how to make the next part(s) work.  Just get comfortable
with the first part(s) for now.
Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

  • SQL Query string in VBA Access 2010

    Hi everyone,
I am writing sql queries in VBA Access 2010.
Now, i am very new to VBA programming, so i don't know how i have to write te string for the query.
I mean, are the " a,d _& sings in the good place?
The query sits behind a button on the form and when i use the form and click on the button i get the following error
This is the code i wrote:
    Option Compare Database
    Option Explicit
    Private Sub Knop9_Click()
    Dim bedrijf As String
    Dim startdatum As Date
    Dim einddatum As Date
    Dim aantal_uren_jaarlijks As Double
    Dim gevolgde_uren As Double
    Dim resterende_uren As Double
    Dim naam As String
'Voeg de waarden die ingevuld werden in het form in de variabelen
    Tekst1.SetFocus
    bedrijf = Tekst1.Text
    Tekst3.SetFocus
    startdatum = Tekst3.Text
    Tekst5.SetFocus
    einddatum = Tekst5.Text
    Tekst7.SetFocus
    gevolgde_uren = Tekst7.Text
    Tekst11.SetFocus
    naam = Tekst11.Text
    CurrentDb.Execute "UPDATE Lan_landmeter " _

    & "WHERE Id_landmeter =" & naam & ""
    CurrentDb.Close
    End Sub
Did i wrote the query string right?
    Thx

In Access create a View showing the information you want, then in design mode click View, SQL to see teh SQL you need. now make sure the SQL you build in VBA is exactly the same. so in the Immediate window type a ? then copy paste your code then press Enter
    to see the result, EG:
    ?"UPDATE Lan_landmeter " _
            & "SET OpleidingsBedrijf =" & bedrijf & " ,Opleiding_startdatum =#" & startdatum & "#,Opleiding_einddatum =#" & einddatum & "#,Aantal_opleidingsuren_vast=20,Aantal_gevolgde_uren
    =" & gevolgde_uren & ",Aantal_resterende_uren=0" _
            & "WHERE  Id_landmeter =" & naam & ""

  • Unable to read data in Excel 2010/2013 from encrypted Access 2010/2013 database

A customer has an Access database (.accdb), which was encrypted/given a database password in Access 2013. It should be possible to read that data from Excel 2010/2013, but when clicking on Data-->From Access
and the correct path is put in and the correct database password has been entered, Excel just keeps prompting for the database password. This happens with both Excel 2010 and 2013.
The database password supplied is correct as evidenced by opening the database in Access 2013 using the same database password.
A colleague in a separate company has found that a separate .accdb file he has recently encrypted also has the same problem as above, yet a .accdb file encrypted ages ago
    is readable from Excel.
How do I get Excel 2010/2013 to read the data from the encrypted .accdb file, please?

Since Access 2010 the encryption algorithm has changed:
    Source
Follow the next steps to apply an encryption method that will allow you to (programmatically) connect to the database:
    1. Decrypt the database
    2. Change the encryption method:
        - In Access Options select 'Client Settings'
        - Scroll down to section 'Advanced'
        - 'Encryption Method': select option 'Use legacy encryption (..'
        - Click 'OK'
    3. Encrypt the database
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I Modify .MDB VBA From Access 2010?

    Hello:
Currently, I am using Access 2010 and 2013.  One of my clients is still using an mdb file created by Access 2003.  They don't want me to upgrade to .accdb, but want me to modify the VBA code.
Prior to today, I had a version of Access 2003, but that is no longer available to me.  Can I successfully make VBA changes to an Access 2003 .mdb file from Access 2010 with the same reliability I could expect if making them from native Access 2003...
and still leave the file as an .mdb?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus, Logicwurks, LLC
    http://www.logicwurks.com

In general: yes. The only gotcha is that your version of Access may update the references to non-standard code libraries. The client will then have to remove those references and set the appropriate ones for their system.

  • ODBC from Access 2010 - where have my exported tables gone?

    Story so far:
Environment Windows 8.1 Office 2013 both 64 bit
Got an Access 2010 DB which is too big (1.8GB), so I want to do an SQL Express back end and an Access front end.
I install SQL 2012 Express on my local system CCW8.
I create a DB in SQL Management Studio (called OUS). In Access 2013 I create an ODBC datasource (it does not ask for 32 or 64 bit) called CCW8\OUS
I can export tables to this daatsource
I delete the local tables in Access.
I attach the dbo.TABLENAME SQL tables
    My data is visible.
But I need to find these tables in SQL Management Studio to do the database diagrams. I can't find them
My OUS database exists but has no tables.
After a reboot, the datasource is no longer visible in ODBC datasouces (32 or 64 bit) but the Access DB can still "see" some data
Can someone point me to a reference?
Also should I stop using Access as a front end - it's easy for users coming from Excel and Office VBA?
    CarolChi

    Hello,
It seems that Access data export to ODBC data source is failed.
Did you try to export Access data into SQL Server database with another methods? For example, using SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access or SQL Server Import and Export Wizard from SQL Server Management Studio?
In order to use Access as front end for a SQL Server database, you can build a OBDC connection to your SQL Server database and create linked table in Access.

  • Add-in for Access 2010/2013 with Visual Studio 2012 (2013 Preview)

    Hello!
Am i right: Microsoft wants to kill Access in favor of Azure/SQL stuff?
I was unable to find any Projects in Visual Studio 2012/2013 to create an Addon for Access 2010 or 2013 (only Word, Excel, Outlook).
    There is even no Microsoft.Office.Tools.Access.ApplicationFactory
to install add-in to Access App.
    Any solutions for VS 2012?
Or i should use outdated Shared Add-in with VS 2010?
    Thank you!

    Sorry Donald M from Microsoft,
You need to rethink that response.  IDTExtensibility2 is an outdated Office 2003 technology.
Everything EXCEPT the ThisAddIn.designer.cs reference to ApplicationFactory _factory compiles when you switch references in another Office application's VSTO project template to msaccess and dao libraries.  Even the Access icon shows up in Visual
Studio 2013.  The only reason a Ribbon.xml project will not load into Access is that Microsoft hasn't provided the Microsoft.Office.Tools.Access DLL for it.  If you leave the Factory reference pointing to global::Microsoft.Office.Tools.Factory,
the add-in compiles but will not load.
MICROSOFT: Please provide us the missing Factories for MSAccess and OneNote.

  • How steps for convert an old adp file to accdb in Access 2010/2013

I have a client with an old adp file they are running in Access 2010.  Some of their users have moved to Access 2013 and the adp format is no longer supported in that version of access.  I have tried searching the web, but I have not found a definitive
set of instructions on how to migrate the content of this adp file to the newer accdb format.  I have created a new .accdb went to External data, Import, Access and pulled over all the objects found in that ui.  It pulled in tables as well, but it
was my understanding with the adp format all of the tables were in sql server, not access.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to help me figure out how to migrate this content and get rid of the adp file as I am admittedly not very knowledgeable of this adp file format as well!

Thanks for the help Stefan.  I was actually able to do this pretty easily by doing a couple of things:
Created a blank new Access DB (MyAccessDB_new_format.accdb)
Opened it and went to the External Data menu, then imported all the objects from the old Access file (MyAccessDB.adp)
Went to View code to see the VBA code and then added the reference to the ADODB library for the code.
Created a new ODBC connection on the PC to the local SQL Server database (called MySQLServerAppDB).
Deleted all the local tables that got imported in the Access db.
Went to the External Data menu, then added all the db objects as linked tables (All the tables now in the access db with the globe icon next to them) and renamed them in Access from default naming schema of "dbo_TableName" to just "TableName".
Tested it and was getting some weird dbo message, so looked at the VBA code and all the queries had schema qualification (i.e.:  select * from dbo.table1), so I did a find replace and got rid of "dbo." (found
10 occurrences) and changed any form or report references in their property sheets with dbo in the name and removed "dbo."
Tested it again and then got some weird unique table error message.  I just commented this line out and it works fine in my app.
    Hope that helps someone!

  • How to deploy a Desktop Access 2010 app via Azure and RemoteApp?

I currently sell an Access 2010 app that uses the 2010 Access Runtime for deployment on desktop PCs. I very much would like to make it available over the internet on PC/Mac/iPad using the Azure RemoteApp, if possible. The Access app has a number of supporting
files- it’s not just an Access accdb or accde file. For it to work correctly all the supporting files need to be in folders related to the main accde/accdb fie. Those files are a few other accde files, csv, pdf, and some folders.
Each of my clients (a company) may have 1-15 simultaneous users. On the Desktop Access version, I have a Front End accde installed on each workstation and a single Back End accdb data file installed on a shared drive. Each FE workstation is linked to the
single BE data file. I would need to replicate this somehow on an Azure VM (like perhaps have a designated folder for the BE data file that each user account’s FE is linked to?).
I created an Azure VM (server 2012 R2) and installed the Access Desktop App on it. I can access that full VM with RDP (and see the whole desktop, not just my Access app). What I’m trying to figure out is a way to do this with RemoteApp- can RemoteApp use
my Access 2010 app as an available ‘app’ or does the user need to see the whole VM desktop?
As well, in my Azure portal the ‘RemoteApp’ option is grayed out ‘pending approval’ so I can’t test it.
Any help figuring this out would be great. Thanks-

    N8827N
I ended up a great solution for this. I'm using 3 Windows Server 2012 R2 VMs to run it as a RemoteApp program. It's set up sort of like this:
    VM 1: RD Broker
VM 2: Active Directory (where Users/Groups are created)
VM 3: AppServer (where the Access app is actually located and run on- the VM2/Active Directory 'talks' to the AppServer to create/validate users but all the action happens on VM3).
RemoteApp requires Windows Server 2012 so I don't think it'll work with Server 2008. The great thing about RemoteApp is it opens the Access 2010 Front End in a unique window, all on its own. The user doesn't need to see the Desktop of the server- they just
    see the Access Navigation Form(s).
In brief, on the VM3/AppServer I have a  unique folder for the backend Access data file and a User Account (created in the VM2 Active Directory) for each user with the frontend Access file in C/Users/Username/AppData.
RemoteApp- when the user logs in via the RemoteApp app- points to that specific user profile's frontend Access db in that location and opens it in its own window on their host computer. And since each FE is linked to a common BE data file everyone uses the
same data, just like in a regular LAN Server FE/BE setup.
It required some changes in the Access app to deal with it- uploading images and files, emailing straight from the app, etc but it was worth it. I also had to pay a development company to set up the 2012 R2 Servers, as I didn't know the details of how to
do that myself. But I'm managing the setup, ongoing, and it's not so hard to do.
So now my customers can run the Access app on a PC, Mac, or iPad pretty much anywhere. Excellent way to extend an Access application..

  • Can't save changes to forms in access 2010 db format 2007

Access 2010 - file format Access 2007 cannot save design changes
On a previously designed form which works, I went back to change a check box from enabled "Yes" to "No" - I am then prompted to save changes and I click "Yes" but the form will not save or close. To close the form I must select "No" to the changes and they
are lost.  If I return to form view the changes are also lost when I close.
I have exclusive access to the DB and per some other suggestions I have checked the box to open in exclusive and uncheck the box  "Track name AutoCorrrect Info". I have also used compact and repair, which is also done on a regular basis.
I have found that it is beginning to occur on other forms as well for no apparent reason.
    History:
This was originally an Access 97 database that had been upgrade, all forms, reports, etc., had been imported into a new Access 2007 database. It has been running fine for the past month and we have been making design changes with no issues up to this point.
The database is running on MS Server 2008r2 Terminal Services

    Hi Iasun:
I have exactly the same problem that you had and have not been able to solve it. As you say, forms can be modified but no be saved; you can´t either change it´s name or delete it. Many forms in a large application  that I developed have
the same problem and it seems that with time more forms are becoming "damaged"
What I have done is to open the "damaged" form in design view and copied all controls to a new Form, leaving the old form unused. This is not a real solution but it´s the only way that I have found to change the original form.
Your comment is more than a year old, have you already found a good solution?
My application was originally developed in Access2007 and still running under it so it is not a problem related to 2010.

  • Mapping Access 2010 Query Expressions In Crystal Reports

    Hello,
I am new to Crystal Reports.
When I change the datasource of a Crystal report to an Access 2010 query that has an expression in it, it is not able to map that calculated field. The expression in question is a simple iif statement that yields a yes or no, given the condition that's met. It works fine in Access and is very basic.
But I can't get it to map in Crystal - so I tested it by changing the expression in Access to defect:"x" - even simpler. It still shows up in Crystal as unmapped when I point to the query and hit the Crystal update button.
Can Crystal map expressions in an Access 2010 query, or does it just handle straight table fields that occur in a table or query?
    Regards,
    Dan

    Hello Dan,
When pointing your report from one data source, to another one, the reason it does not initially map the field, it is because they are seen as defined with different data type. One is defined with 255 characters, and the other one is seen as a Memo. In the "Map Fields" window, uncheck  the option "Match type", and you will then be able to map your expression field manually.
Note that the MS Access provider, send the information to Crystal Reports regarding the data type, and the fact it is different, it is because the provider used send different information to Crystal Reports, and if a field is defined with more than 255 characters, it will be seen as a memo field.
There is nothing that can be done in Crystal Reports to change the data type as it is provided by the database provider.
By design, it does not list a memo field as a database field you can group by, because large string generally contains a description, comments, ... and this type of information is generally always different, so there is no reason to group by those field with that data type.
Having said that, it is possible to group by a formula that contains the memo field to give the flexibility to bring back a portion of the characters that the memo field contains. To do so:
    1. Create a formula that uses the memo field like:
         {Database.MemoField}
    2. Save and close the formula.
    3. Under the menu "Insert", select "Group"
    4. In the "Insert Group" window, select the formula created in the previous
    steps to group by.
This information is available in the SAP Knowledge Base Article:
1214731 - Unable to group on a memo field in Crystal Reports
I hope the above information answered your questions.

  • Accessing Control in Excel Worksheet

My company has a Winforms App written in VB.Net that populates textboxes in a Excel 2010 Worksheet. This application has been working flawlessly since the days of Office 2003. Last week, several updates for Office and Excel were pushed out by Microsoft and
my user community installed them. Since then, when our Winforms App attempts to populate the textboxes, the following kind of error occurs:
"Public member 'txtVENDOR_NOTE' on type 'Worksheet' not found."
I have verified that the text boxes exist in the worksheets and I have recreated the worksheets in Excel 2010, but the problems continues to persist. I have uninstalled all the Excel updates as well as several of the Office updates, but the issue still continues.
Has anyone else experienced this issue recently and, if so, how did you resolve it? Since this issue began after the last batch of Office and Excel updates were pushed out by Microsoft, which we installed on December 12th, does anyone know what update might
    have caused the above problem?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Dear All,
The following updates blocked our Winforms VB.Net App from accessing controls in Excel:
Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010
    KB2553154
    KB2553284
    KB2687423
    KB2850016
Uninstalling these updates resolved our problems and allowed us to continue with our business and interactions with our customers and vendors.
The purpose of these security updates follows:
"A security vulnerability exists in Microsoft office 2012 64-Bit Edition that could allow arbitrary code to run when a maliciously modified file is opened. This update resolves that vulnerability."
These updates need to be installed with caution.
    Regards!

  • How to display query results in windows side by side in Access 2010

In Access 2010 - when I open a query the result is desplayed in a tab.
When I open a new query - a new tab is created - now in front of the other tab.
I would like to see both queries at the same time.
    How is that done?

    Select File > Options.
Click 'Current Database' in the navigation pane on the left.
Under 'Document window options', select 'Overlapping Windows'.
Click OK, then close and reopen the database.
