MS-SQL 7.0 Script Export to Oracle

Hey,
i have a Microsoft SQL 7.0 or SQL 2000 Script.
Is there is a way to export the script (about 400 Lines),
to Oracle 7.43 or Oracle 8i ?
Thanks Roland
Here is a short strip SQL 7.0:

Hi,
Oracle architecture is very different from MS-SQL. In MS-SQL there is a master database that holds meta data for each database set up on the server. Oracle has a different dictionary. If you know oracle well enough you can change the scripts to fit oracle.
In addition there are features in MS-SQL that are not compatible to Oracle such as bulkcopy/autoclose options, Identitiy is actually a sequence and all of the server's stored procedures (sp_%) will not work in oracle. You can create the tables with your script but not the procudures.
Good Luck.

  • Sql server 2005 dts export to Oracle 10

can the sql developer migration tool read a DTS export file or can it only connect to a running sql server db for the migration?
I have a need to dts out some tables from sql server, and put them in an update package to load them into Oracle at another site where I may not have a sql server db or a network connection back to my sql server db. Some of the text fields have embedded Carriage Returns and other control characters, so I can't do a ascii export. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi <Please Supply Name>,
Unfortunately SQL Developer Migration Workbench cannot read DTS files, but there are other solutions.
    Migrating the Database (DDL)
You can do this 2 ways depending on your preference or where you have SQL Developer installed.
1)SQL Developer on your SQL Server machine (Note you need access to an Oracle database, but not your target Oracle database): You could capture/convert and create the generation script using SQL Developer on the same machine as your SQL Server, and then just bring the generation script to your Oracle database to run.
    2) SQL Developer on your Oracle machine. You could perform an offline capture .This involves SQL Developer creating some scripts for you, you copy them to your SQL Server Machine to run. Te scripts dump the DDL of your SQL Server database out to files. These files can then be moved to your Oracle machine and "Captured" using SQL Developer. You then proceed to do the migration on your Oracle machine.
Heres a viewlet of someone migrating their SQL Server databases using the "Offline Capture" method
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/viewlets/oflauncher.html
    Migrating the Data
There is only 1 way to perform an "Offline Data Move"
SQL Developer can generate the scripts for you once you have migrated your database DDL. These scipts utilise SQL Servers BCP tool and Oracle SQL*Loader tool.
Heres a viewlet of someone moving their SQL Server data offline using this method
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/migration/workbench/viewlets/ofdm.html
    I hope this helps

    Steps followed -
    1. The oracle users APEX_LISTENER and APEX_REST_PUBLIC_USER did not exist, so I ran apex_rest_config.sql from the APEX 2.4.1 patchset whilst connected sys as sysdba and provided the same password as APEX_PUBLIC_USER for both users.
    2. I also ran
    grant insert, delete on APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups to APEX_LISTENER;
    alter session set current_schema = APEX_LISTENER;
    create or replace synonym wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups for APEX_040200.wwv_flow_rt$privilege_groups;

    Any help much appreciated

Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
    Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:
INFO: Error: ORA-02291: integrity constraint (APEX_040200.WWV_FLOW_RT$APPROVALS_SGID_FK) violated - parent key not found, occurred during execution of: [CALL, insert into wwv_flow_rt$approvals (user_name,status,client_id,security_group_id,created_by,created_on,updated_by,updated_on) values(/*in:user_id*/?,/*in:status*/?,/*in:client_id*/?,/*in:tenant_id*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?,upper(/*in:user_id*/?),/*in:created*/?), [tenant_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [client_id, in, class java.math.BigInteger], [user_id, in, class java.lang.String], [status, in, class oracle.dbtools.rt.oauth.ApprovalRequest$Status], [created, in, class java.sql.Timestamp]]with values: [adminlistener, APPROVED, 3858401374580004, -1, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785, adminlistener, 2014-06-23 12:19:18.785]
SQL Developer responded with an Authentication Failed titled dialog with the following displayed in the body of the dialog

NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - ProductionOS is AIX 5.3 for Oracle 10 and AIX 6.1 for Oracle 11.
We are currently in the process of migrating some applications from Oracle 10 to 11. Our admins have setup a new development system for us with an Oracle 11 instance. Regarding performance the new system behaves more or less the same than our old, e.g. when executing SQLs we notice hardly any performance differences and those we find are slightly in favour of the new system.
But now we discovered that the time it takes to establish a database connection via SQL*Plus is longer on the Oracle 11 system. Running the following code
    sqlplus -s user/pw@database <<END
    quit
ENDa thousand times takes ~60s under Oracle 10 but ~140s under Oracle 11. This may not seem much but we are running a test framework consisting of a bunch of shell scripts where several thousand connections are openend via SQL*Plus to execute some SQLs, so that even this small time difference results in rather huge difference in total runtime. The SQLs themself require roughly the same time in both databases, as already mentioned above they are in fact slightly faster in Oracle 11.
To analyze the time difference I ran a trace for the connect with the following parameters in sqlnet.ora
    TRACE_LEVEL_CLIENT=4
TRACE_UNIQUE_CLIENT=ONand found out that there is a time difference of about 70ms during the connect handshake:

    (1) [22-MAR-2013 13:33:40:618] nscon: got NSPTRS packetAny ideas what could be the reason for this time difference? Something in our network configuration or something else?

With local connections - I do not think a TCP packet send from an IP to the same IP, leaves the interface as an actual wire protocol/signal. If I'm correct, then running local connection tests will be mostly useless in checking the actual network infrastructure.
Tests 3 and 4 should be showing the same connection times as the same physical network infrastructure is used - only the direction is reversed in the tests.
I would assume that port settings on the switches and interface settings on the routers treat packets equally in both directions between 2 servers. But this could in part explain the problem if this is not the case. In a case of a router for example, the 1st test's ingress interface is the egress interface of the 2nd test (and vice versa). Configurations can differ substantially between interfaces on the same router. Likewise if there is a firewall - as different rule sets are applied in each test and these rule sets could differ.
So I would not be too quick to state that this is definitely not a network problem. But I agree that based on the small percentage difference (assuming comparable tests), it does not look like a network issue.
The next step is to determine what the delay is between the listener accepting the client connection, and the connection being serviced by a dedicated server process.
This will require listener tracing - tracing the time from when the listener accepted the connection (and parsed the TNS connection string), to handing off the connection to the dedicated server process.
As a comparison test, you can also test shared server connections. Dispatcher processes (of the db instance) register themselves with the listener. The shared server client hand off is thus done to an existing server process - no need for the Listener to make a kernel call to load and initialise an executable image.
Shared connections are typically faster than dedicated connections in this respect.
If there is a major time difference, then it means some kind of issue with the listener dealing with dedicated servers as oppose to dispatcher hand off's. As both connections would have had very similar network transit time - which means the connection time difference is related directly to dealing with a dedicated server connection request and hand off.
You can also substitute the oracle executable with a wrapper - and troubleshoot the actual dedicated server startup. I've only done this with Oracle XE 10.2 though and with local IPC connections. Unsure how robust this will be for testing purposes via TCP using 11g.

  • SQL Dev3.0 Prod: Export/Import connection wont accept network path

    Update....
SQL Developer 3.0 Production (win xp 32 bit, with JRE download):
Export/Import connection wont accept network path.
but you can map the network path to a drive and use that.
    Steps:-
    1. setup SQL Developer with at least one oracle database connection.
    2. On menu "View > Connections" (if you dont see connection tree window)
    3. right click "Connections", do Export to local drive as an *.xml file (eg c:\connections.xml)
    4. again right click "Connections"
    5. Click Export Connections
    6. Click Browse
    7. Enter network drive path for the *.xml file
    example:- path name as \\MyFriendsPC\path\connections.xml
Result:- SQL Developer wont accept UNC style path
    8. On windows folder open C:\
    9. Copy c:\connections.xml
    10. On windows folder goto \\MyFriendsPC\path\
    11. paste connections.xml at \\MyFriendsPC\path\
    12. On SQL Developer right click "Connections" on the connection tree box
    13. do "Import Connections"
    14. Click "Browse"
    15. Enter UNC path \\MyFriendsPC\path\connections.xml
Result:- SQL Developer wont accept UNC style path
PS: If you manually enter the UNC path in the box before the "browse" button it works. Or if you mapped to network folder as a drive it works.

So what exacly should I do?What exactly you should not do is mess around with the default cipher suite settings, unless you really know what you're doing, which isn't in evidence.

Thanks, but most of the people in the industry are still using the same, and it is working on their Machine
As far as I remember 9.2.0.2 was never released, one needed to install at least 9.2.0.4 (or .5). That´s why the official installation guides tell you to install the latest patches PLUS the latest interim patches for the database.
On top of that, Oracle 9.2 is out of extended support already, I would get a new installation CD set with Oracle 10g and use that for a new installation.
why it is not working on my machine?
Because those old database versions have many bugs that are fixed with patches - so why do you want to run such an old version if one KNOWS that it´s buggy and there are patches to fix those errors?
secondly from where i will get the latest patches, as told by you. pl do let me know any website from where i can down load them
    Check

  • Sql server stored procs migration to oracle

Can't I migrate only the stored procedures alone of sql server db to Oracle using sql developer? How to load the .ocp files with the stored procs I have?

    Hi,
I don't know how to manually update the generated captured files (bat, ocp) with other information or even if it is possible, as the bat files extract data from the SQL*Server data dictionary information to populate the files for the load. If the stored procedures have already been created in the SQL*Server database then they will added to the generated OCP information. If you want to manually change the files then you'll have to work it out for yourself, I'm afraid.
If they are not in the SQL*Server database and exist only as the create statements in text files then you have 2 options, as far as I can see -
    - either run the scripts to create the stored procedures in the database before running the migration
    - use the translation scratch editor and put the procedure create SQL into that to convert to Oracle format -
Tools > Migration >Translation Scratch Editor
You need to be aware that translation of stored procedures isn't always automatically 100% completed and manual intervention is sometimes needed, depending on the complexity of the procedure and how it is written.

    Mike

  • Schedule a SQL Integration Import Script

Hey Everyone! I need some help from the FDM community.
I am currently using FDM 11.1.2.1 and using the Hyperion Essbase adapter to load data to a Planning/Essbase application. I have successfully created a SQL integration import script that connects directly to Oracle EBS, and have manually tested the process up-to-check of the workflow. However, I would like to schedule this process on a nightly basis. I am aware of the batch processing task scheduler and have used it previously, but I am obviously not dumping flat files into the OpenBatch directory nor am I using the Custom General script usually associated with Batch Processing. So, is there a Custom General script that I can use to call on the import integration script so I can schedule such a process?
Please let me know, and thank you for your time!
    Sincerely,
    Craig

You can do this with the batch. You just create a blank text file with the proper naming convention for the POV you are going to kick off the integration script for and place it in Open batch. The batch will then execute the integration script for the POV when executed.

  • Running sql or perl script using DBMS_JOB

    Hi,
Is there a way to run a sql or perl script using DBMS_JOB procedures? I have a perl script which checks out the table usage and emails the report to specific users. I want to run this script in a job scheduler, where I am using dbms_job to add the job. Please help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    -Kristine

You cannot run sql or perl scrips using DBMS_JOBS. You can run only Oracle procedures, functions, packages with DBMS_JOBS. They have to be stored in the database. You will have to create a Pro*C program that is listening on the pipe and push data to that pipe by using dbms_pipe. Then you can execute anything you want.

  • Call a UNIX shell script from an oracle stored procedure

We need to call a UNIX shell script from an oracle stored procedure
i.e. the control should come back to the procedure once the script completes. Can any body help to achieve this ?

There are various ways in achieving this.
For Example, you can call a PRO*C-Library residing on the database server.
This requires a PL/SQL library to be generated and some changes to the Listener configuration.
It is also possible to implement a java procedure on the database being invoked by a PL/SQL wrapper class.
In this way (and if used right) there is also granularity regarding the filestructure permissions given and it may be called during a Forms or other PL/SQL session.
The article below explains a more generic approach how to invoke shell commands from within an Oracle Instance.
Be careful with this, because it really works ;)
