MS SQL SERVER-APPLET CONNECTION WITHOUT ODBC

ONE QUESTION ALL
Can it be achieved? I want to setup a database on a running sql server. On the same machine both and then i want to connect an applet with the database!! Please tell me if it can be done and any source code would be helpful!!!
e-mail:[email protected]
i will look again here but if you have anything send it here on this e-mail!!!
I need some answer please!

To connect to sql server directly from an applet is a waiste of time.
Do multiple clients use your applet?
yes:
You have to write server side script on the same server that the applet came from that
does the database work according to submitted values from the applet (applet uses url
urlconnection POST or GET).
If you want the applet to connect directly you have to sign the applet or set up a policy and
tell all the clients to install the needed jdbc classes.
no:
Write an application using swing.

Help,
setup a new sql server 2012 on a windows 2012r2 server to replace old sql server 2005 on an old windows server 2003 machine. When i test the ODBC connection locally on the server it works fine, however when i try to connect via windows 7 client machine
i get the following error:

I think it must be a permissions thing, I've turned off the firewall for now and still no difference, 've also made sure remote connection is enabled. I can connect to the other sql server in studio manager on the new machine however, i can't go do
the same in the old server, says:
cannot connect to hbfsqlpro1\hbfsqlpro1

the instance is def correct, as that is what i use to connect locally on the new machine and what it comes up on the studio manager on the new machine. STarting to pull my hair out somewhat, i'm sure it's something really simple!

Hello,
You are trying to connect to a named instance. Make sure the SQL Server Browser service is started on the SQL Server computer.
Make sure TCP/IP is enabled.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191294(v=sql.110).aspx
Try to disable Windows Firewall or security software on both, SQL Server instance and client computer.
Test basic connectivity too. Try to ping from the client computer to the SQL Server computer.
Hope this helps.

• CF8 & MSDE SQL Server DSN Connection Error SOLVED!!!

Getting the following error trying to add a CF DSN to SQL
Server?
Connection verification failed for data source:
datasource_name
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
Driver]Error establishing socket to host and port: localhost:1433.
Reason: Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException:
[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing socket to
host and port: localhost:1433. Reason: Connection refused: connect
There are several steps in order to make ColdFusion 8 and
MSDE SQL 2005 Server
1. TCP/IP is not enabled by default. When looking in SQL
Server Configuration Manager it appears TCP/IP is enabled by there
is a second place that it has to be enabled.
2. The TCP/IP port is dynamically assigned each time the
service is started, if they are no errors it the port number stays
the same but if there is an error the port number is dynamically
changed the next time the service starts.
3. You have to add your dsn login username and password to
the database in order to connect without using the sa username and
password.
Steps to get DSN setup correctly.
1. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
2. Expand the SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration Group
3. Click on Protocols for SQLEXPRESS
4. Right click TCP/IP in the right pane and select properties
5. On the protocol tab under enabled set to yes and apply.
6. Disable dynamic port assignments by following the
instruction below:
If enabled, the default instance of the Microsoft SQL Server
Database Engine listens on TCP port 1433. Named instances of the
SQL Server Database Engine and SQL Server Compact Edition are
configured for dynamic ports, which means they select an available
port when the SQL Server service is started. When connecting to a
named instance through a firewall, configure the Database Engine to
listen on a specific port, so that the appropriate port can be
opened in the firewall.
To assign a TCP/IP port number to the SQL Server Database
Engine
In SQL Server Configuration Manager, in the console pane,
expand SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration, expand Protocols for
<instance name>, and then double-click TCP/IP.
In the TCP/IP Properties dialog box, on the IP Addresses tab,
several IP addresses appear, in the format IP1, IP2, up to IPAll.
One of these are for the IP address of the loopback adapter,
127.0.0.1. Additional IP addresses appear for each IP Address on
the computer. Right-click each address, and then click Properties
to identify the IP address that you wish to configure.
If the TCP Dynamic Ports dialog box contains 0, indicating
the Database Engine is listening on dynamic ports, delete the 0.
In the IPn Properties area box, in the TCP Port box, type the
port number you wish this IP address to listen on, and then click
OK.
In the console pane, click SQL Server 2005 Services.
In the details pane, right-click SQL Server (<instance
name>) and then click restart, to stop and restart SQL
Server.
7. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express
8. Connect to your local copy of SQL Server
9. Expand the Security group
10. Right click login. Select new login.
12. Enter the dsn login name you want.
11. Choose SQL Server Authetication.
12. Enter the dsn password you want twice.
13. Disable user must change password at next login
14. Choose default database if you like.
15. Click User Mappings in left pane.
16. Click databases you want login to have access to.
17. Click ok.
You should now be able to add your CF DSN using localhost for
server and the port number you put in earlier. Default port number
is 1433.
You can view which port number SQL is listening to at this
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\SQLEXPRESS\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Tcp
tcpport
You can test connectivity to the sql server by typing telnet
localhost 1433 or the port number you selected at a command prompt.
You should get a blank screen not an error.
Hope this helps, I spent 3 hours figuring it out.
David

I'm running into the same error with CFMX 7 and SQL 2000. The
port is set correctly (1433) in SQL, but it just can't communicate
successfully. SQL reside on a seperate server. Any thoughts?

• How can I create a data connection without ODBC (directly with OLE DB)

If connecting to an OLE DB data source, which is not defined as ODBC, the well known error message appears in Acrobat, that the environment is not trusted. The Designer Help says, that the document must be certified in Acrobat to run OLE DB without ODBC. So I certified the document in Acrobat allowing dynamic content for it. But the error message always appears. So I have some questions to this:
How is the correct certification process in Acrobat to define a trusted environment for using OLE DB without ODBC?
Why generates using of ODBC an trusted environment? With using ODBC data sources can be changed external from Acrobat, so I must think, ODBC is absolutely insecure.
Why is OLE DB without ODBC insecure? Here I have a defined connection string, which cannot be changed at runtime (if the form developer this doesn't want).
And why is the first record displayed instead of the error message, if using OLE DB without ODBC, but navigation is impossible?
This seems all very mysterious to me.
Does anyone in the world has ever created an OLE DB data connection (without ODBC) with Designer and Acrobat, which runs in a trusted environment?
Thanks for your answers.
Michael

For the Projects, the trick will be the Asset files. If they will fit onto DVD DL discs, you're OK. If they are too large (DV-AVI is ~ 13GB per hour), then you'll need some type of backup, or spanning software, that will write files across multiple discs. A better choice, IMO, would be a 1 - 2 TB external, where you can use Project Manager, or just Windows Explorer and Copy, to do the entire Project folder with Assets. I'd recommend against a USB and go at least for FW-400. FW-800 would be better, but you'll need FW-800 connections on your computer. eSATA would be the best, but then you'll need eSATA connectors.
Good luck,
Hunt

• MS SQL Server 7 thru JDBC:ODBC bridge

Hi,
I am trying to access MS SQL server 7 thru JDBC ODBC bridge. I am finding my varchar data is being truncated to 255 characters. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Any body know of a good type 4 jdbc driver for SQL
Server 7. There is one for SQL server 2000
downloadable from micrsoft site, but does it work for
sql server 7 too ?Older betas of this driver suported SQL Server 7, but I believe the plan is to specifically remove that capability in its final release.
My biased opinion would be to try the driver from DataDirect. http://www.ddtek.com Its their driver (an older version) that Microsoft has licensed for MS SQl 2000.
Getting it from DataDirect has a couple obvious advantages:
1. Its a later, more stable, better performing version
2. It will continue to Support MS SQL 7
3. It's suported by 24/7 phone, email and web tech support.
4. And, early this week, you should be able to get the latest 3.0 release which promises to be even more robust, in addition to conforming to the new specs.
5. its not free, but then again- you get what you pay for...

• Server dropped connection without sending the initial SMTP greeting

Whenever anyone tries to send email to addresses from the domain 'cwbank.com' they receive the error emessage:
connect to smtp.ab.tac.net[216.123.224.167]: server dropped connection without sending the initial SMTP greeting
If I use other mail servers, the message goes through without a hitch.
Prior to this week we could send email to this domain.
Port 25 is open on the receiving server (216.123.224.167).
A few weeks ago, we were 'blacklisted' because another server on the same subnet was spamming. And a few ISPs (Godaddy, 1and1, etc.) blacklisted the whole subnet instead of the offending IP. We don't seem to be having any more problems with getting RBL rejections anymore. Typically those error messages were returned as '550 RBL rejection' errors. I'm wondering if this might be related.
Any other thoughts on the subject?

Well, the other thing that could be happening is that the mail servers at these 4 IPs might have their own hardwired IP block on some range of IPs that you are in. We know that is not being done at their firewall (you can connect and get the greeting), but might be done with, for example, a postfix config that prohibits connections from certain IP ranges.
There's another possibility, namely, that they are picky about DNS config. Your IP of 68.150.192.151 seems to have a good reverse DNS PTR record that matches the SMTP HELO greeting when I telnet to your server:
mail:~ admin$ telnet 68.150.192.151 25
Trying 68.150.192.151...

220 mail.boxclever.ca ESMTP Postfix
quit
221 Bye
Connection closed by foreign host.

Maybe they won't talk to any server whose name given in the Reverse DNS PTR record doesn't have an A Record that matches. You might want to check that.

• How do i connect to SQL server using the JDBC ODBC

I am attempting to connect to a database on a server over a network. It is running SQL Server 2005. Am i supposed to set the ODBC on my computer or on the server computer and this is the code i am using but i keep getting a class not found exception.
//Variables for the connection to the second Database static final String JDBC_DRIVER2 = "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc";; static final String DATABASE_URL2 = "jdbc:sqlserver:///*serverName*/;databaseName=Dashboard;" + "user=dashboard; password = **********"; private Connection connection2; public void Connection2() throws Exception{ Class.forName(JDBC_DRIVER2); connection2 = DriverManager.getConnection(DATABASE_URL2); System.out.println("Connected 2"); Statement statement2 = connection2.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE); }
I have the server's actual name in /*serverName*/ so i know that it is not the issue i left it out for business sensitivity.
I downloaded sqljdbc.jar and have placed it both in my eclipse driver folder and in the project folder itself.
Any help would be very grateful.
Thanks Nathan M.

ODBC has nothing to do with the driver in the code that you posted.
Class not found has nothing to do with the connection string.
And the exception stack trace, if you were printing it, would make that obvious because then you would note that
it isn't getting to that line.
Class not found exception means that either your class path is wrong, which is a basic part of java not jdbc,
or that you specified the class name wrong.
I downloaded sqljdbc.jar and have placed it both in my eclipse driver folder and in the project folder itself.Apparently that isn't sufficient because it still isn't in your class path.

• MARS connection to SQL Server in JAVA via ODBC

Hello.
I've got this problem.
I'm managing an application JAVA/JSP, based on a 3-tier architecture.
The connection to the database is performed via JDBC/ODBC, in order to work with different DRMS.
Everything is ok when connecting to Oracle or MySql via JDBC, but when we connect to SQL Server via ODBC we get this error: "ODBC SQL SERVER - Connection is busy with result for another stmt".
That's why the application executes more than one SQL statement, opening a ResultSet object, under the same connection.
This is the way the application is performing, and we can't change it.
I've read that on SQL Server 2005 is available a new connection parameter called MARS (Multiple Active Result Sets), that should resolve this problem.
But I was not able to find any way to invoke this type of connection in JAVA for an ODBC connection! (I've found only tips for .NET...).
Many thanks if somebody can suggest me how to resolve this problem.
It's urgent!

Use JDBC. Get a SQL server JDBC driver. Unfortunately I don't know of any free ones, but one I have used in the past is from http://www.jnetdirect.com/
Maybe you can search in the JDBC forum for the answer - Its a common enough question I know.

• SQL Server 2005 : connection refused

Hi,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise trial) on my PC,
then configured windows Admin Tools/ODBC DataSource.
I did not give a server name, so it picked up my computer name (OK-6400) as server name.
Created a DB called ZM there, a few tables, added some data, so it works fine through ODBC (with SqlDbx).
It never asked for port, so I assume it is 1433, am I wrong?
Now I need to connect to it through JDBC.
Tried several times through Eclipse (342) Database Development wizard.
1) With MSFT JDBC driver tried to use URL: jdbc:sqlserver://localhost:1433;databaseName=OK-6400/ZM
Tried with or without that server name:
"The TCP/IP connection to the host has failed. java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect"
2) With JTDS driver URL: jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://localhost:1433/ZM - same connection refused
or with jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://localhost:1433/ZM;instance=OK-6400 -
- "java.sql.SQLException: Unable to get information from SQL Server: localhost."
Am I doing something wrong ? Please help !
(Haven't used SQL Server before)
Using Win XP.
Thank you,

Hello,
I am having Visual Studio 2012 and SQL Developer 4.0 installed on my system with Windows 8 - 64bit
I want to shift a VS project with an SQL database connectivity to another new Laptop (above mentioned) ...
I have the project opened in VS without bieng connected to the database..
I have a backup file of the database (which needs to be restored to a new created database on SQL Developer)
The problem:
I am unable to create a server connection in SQL Developer which will allow me to create a new database followed by the recovery from backup file.
I am getting the following error message when I try to create a connection:
Status: Faliure - IO error: The network adapter could not establish a connection
Please help me in setting up a server connection and adding a new sql database

The error message seemed unfamiliar to me and since I had never heard of SQL Developer before, I went to Google. Google might be pulling my legs, but it appears that SQL Developer is related to Oracle. This forum is devoted to SQL Server, so you are in the

• Oracle 11.1.0.7 x64 to SQL Server 2008 connectivity

Hi There,
I'm trying to establish connectivity between oracle database running 11.1.0.7 64bit on windows 2008 server x64 to sql server 2008 database. Both databases (oracle and SQL) are on the same machine.
I know with the older oracle versions, we used to setup hs connection between the two databases, however, I've been reading note 466225.1 (How To : How to Setup DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit) on metalink and it states the following:
>
Please be aware:
- DG4ODBC is first ported to 64bit Windows platforms starting with 11.2. Using a 32bit DG4ODBC on a 64bit Windows operating system is NOT certified.

So, according to the above, I'm guessing that we won't be able to use dg4odbc to establish the connectivity between the two.. how about the old hsodbc setup under ORACLE_HOME\hs\admin ? would that work? or is there another way that w can do this?
I've been working on this and trying to get it going but not sure if I'm doing something wrong or it just doesn't work here..
On the server I did the following:
1. created the sqlserver DSN and tested the connection and it's all ok.
2. added the following to the tnsnames.ora
SQLCentralODBC =
(DESCRIPTION=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=188.87.135.90)(PORT=1522))
(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=SQLCentralODBC))
(HS=OK)
) 3. added the following to the listener.ora:
LISTENER_ELMSCENTRAL =
(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=188.87.135.90)(PORT=1522))
SID_LIST_LISTENER_SQLCENTRAL=
(SID_LIST=
(SID_DESC=
(SID_NAME=SQLCentralODBC)
(ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\product\11.1.0.7)
(PROGRAM=hsodbc)
)4. the listener started ok, and I validated the dsn connection and it's all ok:
C:\Users\oracle>tnsping SQLCentralODBC

Used parameter files:
C:\oracle\product\11.1.0.7\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION= (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=188.87.135.90)(PORT=1522)) (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=SQLCentralODBC)) (HS
=OK))
OK (10 msec)
C:\Users\oracle>5. created the db link:
SQL> create database link LM_SQLC connect to sqlc_user identified by xxx using 'SQLCentralODBC';
Database link created.6. Test the connection:
SQL> select * from event@LM_SQLC;
select * from event@LM_SQLC
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Unable to retrieve text of NETWORK/NCR message 65535
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from LM_SQLC
SQL>Any ideas/help will be really appreciated.
Thanks alot.

They say "Using a 32bit DG4ODBC on a 64bit Windows operating system is NOT certified." but we do it extensively and it works just fine. You need to install a 32-bit home and create a listener for the 32-bit gateway. Only downside (aside from maintaining 2 homes) is that if you need to file an SR, you must prove that you're able to reproduce the problem when the gateway is running on a 32-bit OS. We keep a little 32-bit server around for this purpose and point our gateways to that box to reproduce issues for SR's.
If you want to run "certified" all the time, you could leave the gateways running in Production on a 32-bit OS, but it runs considerably slower this way, and all because Oracle won't support your SR's. You have to decide if you really think you'll hit an issue that wouldn't reproduce on the true 32-bit OS and decide if it's worth the risk. We've made our decision...
Good luck!
