MS Word Dictionary Issue

Hi guys
I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and since the upgrade my MS Word dictionary no longer recognizes any custom spellings I have added. Worst of all, I can't add custom spellings since the ADD function is grayed out. I have tried to change the dictionary within Word but it is set-up to the correct dictionary.
Is anyone able to help me out?

Here's a cut and paste from the Mactopia forums on this issue - note - open Word - select - preferences -spelling and grammar - look for "Custom Dictionary." In dialogue back - select "Custom Dictionary." Leave "language" option blank. This method resolved the issue for me.
Michael
We're tracking a new bug where the content of the custom dictionary seems to
be being converted to the wrong version of Unicode. This would potentially
produce the problem you are reporting.
To resolve it, create a new, blank custom dictionary, then edit the new one
and paste the entries from the old one into it. Make sure you do not assign
a "Language" to the new dictionary: it should be set to "No Language".
When you paste, make sure you use Edit>Paste Special>Unformatted Text to
ensure that you do not bring across any formatting that would cause Word to
express the dictionary in a different character set.
Delete or remove the old dictionary.
That should resolve the issue. If it does, please tell us.
Hope this helps

  • Swype word dictionary

On the presumption that Swype learns and stores new words into it's word dictionary, could anyone please tell me if they know of a simple way to reset the dictionary back to it's original state. It's getting annoying because it's suggesting gobbledygook words I've typed out in error and I'd like to get rid of them.
I've tried removing and reinstalling but it doesnt clear it.

To remove a word from the dictionary, highlight only the word that you want to delete, and then tap the Swype key.
Unfortunately, I don't know how to completely reset the Swype dictionary.

this is not a tiger issue i know..but getting help from microsoft is not worth the three hour wait
does anyone know how to add words to a your dictionary? When I try to do this (eg right click on spelling error), the option to 'add' is not available for some reason (it is on the pop-up menu but in feint text). what settings do i need to change??
    thanks

Go to Word Preferences and select the Spelling and Grammer tab. Under Custom Dictionaries, pick one, or if none exist, make one using the "Dictionaries" button. It allows you to save it anywhere, but I'd use your Microsoft User Data folder in your Documents folder. If it needs to be Shared, use the Shared folder. I think you'll have to Get Info on it to set the permissions so everyone can read and write the dictionary, though. It seems to create a file that is writeable only by the owner.
Oh, almost forgot, you have to restart Word before it will let you add to the dictionary.

  • Word dictionary in Nokia 6260

My friend gave me her phone, Nokia 6260. She tells me that is should have a dictionary in it, I dont mean for predictive text, I mean a look up english reference dictionary. I think I have accidently deleted it cos when i go to the menu item it says "dictionary word information missing install word database", she assures me it was working ok, so i think i have buggered it up
Can anyone advise me how to recover the data, I have tried to scan the memory card with recovery software but nothing is shown (final data), or what are my options, how can i restore the missing file or how do get a hold of it, i tried searching the net but nothing so far.

  • Create Adobe PDF from Word DOCX Issue

    Good Morning All,
We have stumbled across an apparently well-known issue, which annoyingly for all concerned does not seem to have a satisfying answer.  One rather long discussion is here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4237240.  There is at least one other which also alludes to the issue basically involving Office 2010 SP1 and having the Word user template location re-directed to a network drive.  None of the suggested things have worked, and we do not want to even try the user template location on a local drive, we want a fix for what is really a fairly standard scenario.
I think we have found something new to add to the mix, this is noted later in the post.  For completeness I have also included a condensed version of events/stuff we have tried, to help anybody who reads this and may have an answer.
    Our scenario is as follows:
We recently performed a Microsoft Office 2007 to Office 2010 SP1 upgrade.  A week or so in advance of this we upgraded all those folks that had Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 to X, (v10.0.0).
Within a couple of days of the Office upgrade we had reports of an issue whereby users could not convert Word documents to PDF.  Window title: Create Adobe PDF, message: Unable to open the document <path to file>.  Please check to see if you have permission for the above file.  (The user always does have rights to the location.)
All machines are 32bit Windows 7 and well capable of running this OS and these apps.
Machine patching is maintained by SCCM.
Deployment of Acrobat and Office was done by SCCM.
    The issue broken down:
Conversion of Word documents to PDF fails in these scenarios:
Windows Explorer – right click of single file and ‘Convert to PDF’.
Windows Explorer – right click of multiple files and batch conversion option.
Outlook – Convert to PDF and e-mail.  (Error message is different, apologies I have no note of this to hand.)
It should be noted that conversion of any other file format works, plus conversion of Word documents consistently works inside the Word interface using Adobe toolbar.
Not consistently a user based issue:
It usually * fails for our main test user on her PC.  Although sometimes a single file or batch file conversion will work.  However the option in Outlook never works.  (* Every so often the single file and batch conversion’s do work for the test user, there is no obvious reason as we have not applied any fixes that worked!)
Everything works fine for the test user on my PC and another PC in her department.
Not consistently a machine based issue.
The process always works for me on my machine, but fails most of the time when I use the test users PC.
The process always works for a test account cloned from the test user’s actual account.
Giving local admin rights to the test user did not help.
    Summary of things tried:
Various forum suggestions have not worked:
Deleting/renaming normal.dotm worked initially but the problem returned within a couple of days.
    Registering some Adobe DLL's: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddin.dll & C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\PDFMaker\Common\AdobePDFMakerX.dll.
The Word Add-in tool bar is enabled.
The users name and intials are present in Word options.
There are no rogue temp files in %temp% or C:\users\<user>\appdata\roaming\microsoft\word.
    Stuff we have tried independently:
Repair Office install then repair Adobe install.
    Patching Acrobat to 10.1.1 & 10.1.4.
Remove and re-install of Acrobat, including patch.
Remove and re-install of Acrobat Pro and Reader, (using the official Adobe labs removal tool), including patch.  (When products were removed Office was repaired.  Just Acrobat Pro X was installed after, no Reader.)
During this work I noticed two files in %temp% which get updated when file conversion is attempted: amt.log and swtag.log.  After Googling these files I found there may be some interesting stuff in amt.log when the process fails.  Unfortunately this has not been the case.  There is no obvious log entry difference between a successful conversion and a failure.
However at this time I started to notice files in %temp% in the following format: cv*.tmp.cvr.  Google revealed these to be Office crash dump files.  Unfortunately these files are always zero bytes long and literally contain nothing to analyse!
So after clearing out all these .cvr files I ran Task Manager, and had %temp% open in a folder.  I then tried the conversion process:
    Firstly it fails!
Secondly a zero byte .cvr file is created and usually disappears right away.
Thirdly winword.exe appears and disappears quickly in Task Manager.
You can repeat this to your heart’s content by hitting the retry button!
The only thing I can add about my PC is that I never had Acrobat until I tried installing it to re-create the issue.  So it may be that my PC having no legacy Adobe install issues, (I only had Reader previously), was less prone to whatever is the root of this issue?  The affected machines in the field have at least been upgraded from v9.
As you can tell we have found it very hard to pin the issue down.  The circumstances for a failure are not consistently repeatable.  I do think the key thing we have noticed though is the obvious crashing of winword.exe when this process fails.  As evidenced by the creation of the cv*.tmp.cvr files and watching the process appear and disappear in Task Manager.  Nothing I have read elsewhere notes this, and it seems to me that winword.exe does not like being called in this way.  This is surely very key to the issue?

I should also add that there are no error messages appearing on screen when we have a failure, and nothing is logged in any Windows event log.
I have done lots more searching since first reporting this.  Lots of people have this issue going back to last year at least with Office 2010 SP1 Acrobat X.  No answers or fixes out there apparently despite being promised to some people who have done a bug report.
This is really not good enough.  I have reported our scenario as a bug report earlier today.  Hopefully I will get a proper fix, then I will gladly pass it on.

  • Acrobat x Pro / Word 2010 issues

I have been using Acrobat 9 Pro for quite sometime.  I just downloaded Acrobat X Pro to try it out hoping I get better results with WORD 2010 than I did with 9.
    I am using Office 2010 32bit, Windows 7, and Acrobat X Pro.
My issues are that When I try to convert a Word 2010 report to PDF, some of the graphics and text end up missing.
I have found that the quality is better when you just go to SAVE AS > (select) PDF.
The Acrobat Ribbon button, the SAVE AS ADOBE PDF, and printing using Adobe options give less than acceptable quality.
Has anyone had the same issues and is there a resolution?  I am no reason to upgrade to "X" otherwise...

    Hi there,
Could you provide some more detail about your file(s)?  Are there any common elements between the files you've been converting to PDF via the PDFMaker Ribbon or the Adobe PDF printer that are disappearing?  Is the text that's disappearing all of a certain font?
I'd like to try to help if you could upload a sample file or provide some additional detail!
    Thanks,

  • InDesign CS6 Linked Word file issue

Hi, I have a number of 100+ page InDesign files which have a large (linked) Word file that threads though multiple text boxes throughout all of the document pages.
The files need to be shared amongst multiple computers within our studio. This setup was used with InDesign CS5.5 last year and worked fine, it was still working fine with CS5.5 this year but we needed to upgrade to CS6.
We have the trial version of CS6 installed throughout the studio now however we have been having big problems just opening the InDesign files up in CS6. They predominantly seemed to only open up 95% of the way and then hang (spinning wheel) and when (on occasion) we did get 1 open, it was clearly struggling and normally crashed. Can't get most open at all any more.
I have tried opening files on different computers (Mac & PC), tried changing format of linked Word file, the only thing that seemed to ever work was breaking the link to the Word file
(from within CS6) and then saving without Word file linked. This is not ideal for our workflow but even if we wanted to do this to all files, I am unable to even get in to some of them to unlink them now (as they are now all saved as CS6 files which won't open). Moving Word doc from location (so that InDesign can't pick it up) also doesn't work.
I have tried deleting InDesign preferences & all recovery files several times, still no joy. It may be related to being on the trial version (seeing as 5.5 still seems fine) but I am hesitant to upgrade everything if it is not going to work. Does anyone have any ideas??

Thanks Peter (and Bob), thought last solution was going to be a winner but still hangs at same point (on several files) unfortunately.
Strangely, an older version of one of the files (a CS6 one that is linked to the same Word file) just opened, which suggests to me that the issue may not actually be wholly to do with it linking to the Word file.
We just setup a brand new PC with just CS6 trial & Office on it, copied InDesign files to desktop, turned off the auto link boxes in preferences and still no luck. Getting close to giving up stage I think, just can't figure out the cause.

  • Microsoft Word 2008 issue

    Hey there,
I wanted to kill two stones with one bird in this thread :P
First off, whenever I open Word, I never see the standard toolbar immediately. I have to go to view, and it says it's enabled, but it's not there, and so I disable it and re-enable it and then it pops up. Can anyone tell me how I can get it to appear whenever I start Word? I started experiencing this issue after I didn't exit from the print preview of a document.
The next thing I want to ask: I write in many different languages, and many of these languages have special characters such as é and ö, which for convenience I would either want to have shortcuts for (é would be commande') or have autocorrect replace (such as oe being replaced by ö, in whatever word it would figure). I do not have much experience with autocorrect, but I know that in Windows I was able to use the shortcut thing. I can't figure it out in Leopard.
I'm sorry if this isn't the best forum to ask this question in, because I didn't see anything more fitting.
    Thanks,

I had to do a double-take on that one. I like it. No birds were harmed in the posting of your question.

There could be two possible causes and fixes. First, try deleting your Word preferences from ~/Library/Preferences. If that doesn't work, try creating a new user and seeing if the problem is fixed there. Copy preference files from the new user until it gets fixed.
Do you use spaces? Word is known to not work well with spaces. What I have done is set Word up to display in all spaces all the time. There are a few bugs when I have multiple documents open, but I can deal with it. Try turning spaces off and restarting Word. Maybe try putting Word in all spaces like I did.

That is because the Mac solved this issue so long ago that no one even mentions it anymore. Type option, then the accent key for each diacritic. Right accent is e. Left accent is `. Umlaut is u. Circumflex is i. For example:
    option e e = é
    option e a = á
    option ` e = è
    option ` u = ù
    option i o = ô
    and so on.
There used to be a really handy program called KeyCaps to show you all the combinations. It is still there, just really hard to find. Go to System Preferences -> International -> Input Menu. Check "Keyboard Viewer". "Show Input Menu in Menu bar" will automatically be checked and you will have a new menubar item. Go there and "show keyboard viewer". Press various control keys to see what you would get.

  • Issues with 'Rounding' function (Word 2007 issue? Works in Word 2003...)

My colleague (using Word 2003) and I (using Word 2007) are working on a change to a template where we include a formula that has the function called rounding.
She (2003) is able to preview the pdf but I (2007) am getting error message: : oracle.xdo.parser.v2.XPathException: Extension function error: Method not found 'round'
All other settings that we have appear to be the same (same config file, same java version, etc)
Does anyone know if there are some changes to Word 2007 that are causing this? And, any ideas on how to resolve?
    Thanks for the help!
    Background:
-The function is designed provide a total weight value: each individual weight value, multiply by a factor of .80, round up, and then added together to get a total amount.
-Because we also show the individual weight values on the output, (also multiplied by the factor of .80 and then rounded up), we need the factor and rounding to happen before the sum).
The entire set of functions for the total weight value is:
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'sum',0)?>
    <?for-each:LIST_G_CONTAINER_NAME1?><?for-each:G_CONTAINER_NAME1?>
    <?xdoxslt:set_variable($_XDOCTX,'sum', xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX,'sum')+ xdoxslt:round((GROSS_WT*0.8),2))?><?end for-each?><?end for-each?>
    <?format-number: xdoxslt:get_variable($_XDOCTX,'sum');'9G990D00'?>
    space
    <?WEIGHT_UOM_CODE?>
Error when attempting to preview the pdf after uploading an xml file:
: oracle.xdo.parser.v2.XPathException: Extension function error: Method not found 'round

    Hi,
I took my original file (didn't have the round functionality) and Word 2007 and did the following:
    1) Tested with xml to ensure that there are no other issues - was able to preview successfully
    2) Added the function you suggested: <?xdoxslt:round(1000.98978,2)?> and saved the change
    3) Tried to preview using the same xml and got the same error message about rounding
I can't test on 2003 because my colleague is not working right now (she is the one with that version installed). I will try on 2003 later today (but I am guessing it will work for her because the other rounding function works for her).
Thanks for any other ideas about this.

  • Datagrid column header word wrap issue

    Hi All,
I'm passing dynamic text to a datagrid column header. The word wrap is true but it's not working.
Any ideas how to fix this issue?
    DataGridColumn headerText="{myVar.text} Total" headerWordWrap="true"

    @Johnny,
Try to make use of the headerRenderer property and use <mx:Text /> control as a renderer so that your headerText gets wrapped..

  • Odd Word 2011 issue

I have an odd issue with Office 2011.  At the beginning of sessions, I can tell Word, other office programs, or adobe to share email as attachment, and they will correctly open Outlook and open a new mail with the current word document, powerpoint or whatever it is, attached.  At some point during a longer session on my MacBook Air, however, this ceases to work, and the application either hangs, or generates - after a fair bit of thinking - an error message that "Word was unable to mail your document." (or Powerpoint etc.)
I can imagine this is a memory issue or memory leak, but short of rebooting, have not found a solution. Closing and reopening outlook does not solve the problem.  Nor does closing other big memory use programs.  Outlook continues to function, so, for example, I can compose a mail and attach a saved document to it and send that ok.  But I cannot send from another application via outlook.  It's clear the other apps know that Outlook should be the mail handler, since Word, for example, shifts the focus to Outlook, but then the process goes no further.
As I say when I reboot, the system works properly.
    thanks for any advice.

  • Word Dictionary not working.

The dictionary in Word isn't working with the new Maverick system (10.9.4) on my new macbook air. Didn't have problems before with my old macbook, but really starting to dislike this new system and the new macbook air. I can't even find the plist in the preference folder to delete it, as has been recommended in other posts. That file doesn't exist on my computer. In addition, every time I open my entourage app, I get the following pop-up "Do you want the application “Microsoft Entourage.app” to accept incoming network connections?" I always click "allow" yet I get this every single time I open the app. I've taken the steps to eliminate it in the security folder, to no avail. Then the email program always takes me to a new message window, don't want that. Again no problems with old system. But biggest thing now is the dictionary, can someone please help? Thanks!

This would be better posted on the [MS Office for Mac forums|http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums>.

  • Word Conversion Issues - Imported via SQL

Im a relative newbie to this type of thing so hopefully can give the relevant information but please ask if further clarification is needed.
I am involved in a web-based sql system that holds word documents. When I click top open a document in the browser, it asks if I want to save or open the .doc and renames it to "showmailitem.doc". This seems correct but it then gave an mswrd632
error. Following MS advice I deleted an MS word 6 import key which took away the error but I still get prompted to convert the document, none of the options give me the final document though. All result in gibberish.
The files are .doc and using office 2007 on client machine.
I have tried replacing mswrd632 to no avail.

    Hi,
Which operation system do you use? Since you have followed the
KB to delete/replace the registry key "MSWord6.wpc" and it took away the error "Word Cannot Start the Converter MSWRD632.WPC". But you still get prompted to convert the document.
I recommend you try to convert the doc file to docx file to test (Right clicked on the .doc file, then selected "save as" and chose the option to save as .docx. Then office word could open the file). The methods help some communicator fix the issue.

  • Word space issue

On extracting text from PDF certain word spaces are getting closed up, like the space before by 'W'. Visually we can see the word space in the PDF and the source from which PDF is generated. This happens only for serif fonts like Times-Bold, and not with the sans serif fonts like Helvetica.

    Hi Pradeep,
I am wondering whether you could reproduce your issue manually. If it also occurs when you manually generate, it seems to be a product related issue. If it works correctly when you manually generate, but not correctly in your development, I recommend you
share more details about your program and it would be helpful if you could share us a simple demo to reproduce your issue.
If your issue is a product related issue, I would recommend go to the link below for help:
