Msaccess_utilities.convert -- what's it for?
Hi all,
I'm using SQL Developer 1.2.1.3213 with extension "Oracle Migration Workbench - MS Access" version 10.2.0.32.13
When I convert a query that uses CLNG in Access, it seems to be half-translated in the Oracle SQL to a call to the msaccess_utilities.convert function : the syntax is changed but the CLNG function name is not updated.
This causes the CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW function to fail when running the script into my Oracle database (10g XE)
Three questions on this:
1) Is this intentional?
2) Is there a switch or something I'm missing to make it use the convert function?
3) Why is the function there in the first place - the SQL does nothing?
Access SQL:
SELECT DISTINCTROW [Order Details].[Order ID], Sum(CLng([Unit Price]*[Quantity]*(1-[Discount])*100)/100) AS Subtotal
FROM [Order Details]
GROUP BY [Order Details].[Order ID];
Migration workbench sql
SELECT DISTINCT Order_Details.Order_ID,
SUM(CLNG('NUMBER', Unit_Price * Quantity * (1 - Discount) * 100) / 100) Subtotal
FROM Order_Details
GROUP BY Order_Details.Order_ID
(You can see it's added 'NUMBER' for the destination data type (?) to the function call)
What I expected:
SELECT DISTINCT Order_Details.Order_ID,
SUM(msaccess_utilities.convert('NUMBER', Unit_Price * Quantity * (1 - Discount) * 100) / 100) Subtotal
FROM Order_Details
GROUP BY Order_Details.Order_ID
OR
SELECT DISTINCT Order_Details.Order_ID,
SUM( Unit_Price * Quantity * (1 - Discount) * 100) / 100 Subtotal
FROM Order_Details
GROUP BY Order_Details.Order_ID
Thanks
Greg H
Hi Greg,
Thanks for this feedback.
I have logged a bug against the issue you encounter.
6645891: ACCESS CLNG FUNCTION TRANSLATE INCORRECTLY
I hope to have this resolved for our next release.

Hello, what is the best way for me to convert RW2 raw format for use in Photoshop CC
Hello, what is the best way for me to convert RW2 raw format for use in Photoshop CC. I would appreciate any help with this.
Thanks for the quick help. I do have to leave for work. When I try to
download the images from the camera they seem to only be in jpeg (I don't
see any rw2 or raw files to download). If I select the jpeg file it seems
to only download a jpeg file. I do understand that I do have the option to
open the jpeg in RAW. In doing this, is all the extra information included
in the RAW file there or is it lost coming from the camera
Once again thank you for trying to make me understand how this works.
Have a great day.

What is the best way to back-up my Hi-8 video tapes and then load them onto my i-Mac so I can edit them on i-movie? A camera store will convert them to DVD for $32/120min. Will I lose a lot of quality that way?
Quality is not much of an issue with Hi8, the main issue is age of the tapes. The older the tapes, the more degraded the images are going to be. Regardless of how you transfer the video, the quality is going to be pretty much the same.
The "best" way depends on how valuable the images are to you and how many tapes you have. I did a similar project last winter with a collection of 14 Hi8 tapes that dated from 1994 to 2002. I bought a converter bridge (Canopus), maximum RAM for my Mac, and a huge hard drive. I also decided to get Final Cut Express because it had more ability to enhance the pictures after downloading them. I am very happy with the results, but it cost me nearly $1200 for the upgrades, equipment, and software.
The only other thing to consider is to be sure that if you go with an outside vendor (like the Camera Store) that the files they provide for you will be in a format that iMovie can recognize.
Good luck. -

Hi beno1969,
Test Screen Name is correct. With Acrobat Pro, you can Save As directly to Word format, and bypass the 100 MB file-size limit that ExportPDF imposes. For more information, see www.adobe.com/acrobat.html. You are welcome to try it out for 30 days to see if it meets your needs.

What database program will convert my Appleworks DB for use on Intel platform?
What database program will convert my Appleworks DB for use on Intel platform?
Yes, you just need the appleworks folder from applications.
However, whether or not this is strictly legal is another question entirely, I'm afraid, unless you are planning to remove appleworks from your computer. You could just buy her her own copy of Appleworks, too. -
After I purchased a PDF Converter, it isn't what I needed for my files. Can I get a refund or a credit on my account?
Apple considers all sales as final. Apple expects folks to do theoir homework before purchasing. You will receive a receipt in your email for the purchase 24 to 48 hours later and you can use the Report a problem link to initiate a conversation with iTunes Support about a refund. Apple sometimes gives a one-time refund. The question for you is do you want to use this one-time refund on this app or save it for a more costly app in the future?

ThanksHi Mazdauk, To convert ASF to AVI, I recommend you the iorgsoft video converter which I have been using. It claims to support ASF as input and AVI as output. Anyway, I haven't converted ASF to AVI, most of the time, I convert MTS to MP4. You can have a try first.

Converting Images to CMYK for Print Publication
When in my workflow should I be converting images to CMYK for print publication?
Currently, I shoot RAW photographs with my DSLR in Adobe RGB, import the images into Photoshop for manipulation and then convert the final, sized image to CMYK before placing it in my Indesign document. Before going to print, I convert my files to PDF using the [PDF/X-1a:2001] preset. I use a calibrated system with a profile set for my monitor.
Since many of my pictures have shades of green, I'm often disappointed with the conversion to CMYK because I lose saturation and brightness. Am I doing anything wrong? Is there a better way of preserving the quality of colour in my images when going to a commercial printer? To see in InDesign what color shifts will occur, use View=>Proof Colors.
I would also recommend View=>Overprint Preview.
Yes there are color shifts when converting RGB to CMYK, but those are due to the fact that the gamut of CMYK is significantly less than AdobeRGB or even sRGB. The same color shifts going to CMYK will occur whether you convert the image in Photoshop or in InDesign during PDF export or at the RIP.
Keeping the color in ICC color managed RGB has the advantage that last minute changes can be made as to what CMYK printing conditions are used, i.e. all CMYK is not the same. Furthermore, if you convert RGB to CMYK early in the workflow, you lose the ability to maintain the color gamut for display of the PDF as well as for printing to high fidelity color devices, i.e., offset or digital (especially inkjet) devices that have extra colorants such as light cyan, light magenta, orange, and/or green to dramatically expand the gamut. Once you lose the gamut in your imagery via conversion to CMYK, you can't go back.

I have hundreds of the same shape that needs to be converted into a symbol for easy editing. Is there a way to do this in Illustrator?
Background here may be relevant: The place I am working is currently using ai CS 3 & 5 and the files in question are converted Freehand files. I have never been a Freehand user, but apparently you were able to swap one shape for another in Freehand. The closest Illustrator equivalent that I am aware of is the symbols panel. I know how to swap one symbol for another, how to create a symbol from a piece of vector art and how to modify a symbol. What I am trying to do is convert several instances of the same object into several instances of the same symbol without having to replace hundreds of objects manually (ie. trying to get the right placement in a grid and everything).
Is there any efficient solution to the task I have in Illustrator CS 3 or CS 5?Try this.

Best method for converting 8 mm cassettes for long term storage
I have approximately one hundred 8 mm video cassette tapes that I would like to convert to another format for long term storage. I captured my first tape today from my camera Sony DCR VTR 520 which is a digital 8 mm camera. I was not planning to convert the files to DVDs at this time but just keep the avi file on the computer. The video was just over 2 hours long but the file ends up being 27 GB. I expecting it to be around 8 GB like a 2 hr DVD but I guess its not the same.
The 8 mm tape I converted was from an very old 8 mm camera which I no longer have (1990). The camera used to capture from is a VTR 520 which is actually a Sony digital 8 mm, which can play back standard 8 mm. I used CS3 on my old computer with standard project settings for DV NTSC 29.97 f/s. I currently use PE10 so I could use either program.
What do other people use to convert and store videos on??
If I want to keep them as avi files will I have to live with these large file sizes?
I did a search on the forum and found titles that talk about this subject from a couple of years ago but when I click on them they don't come up. How do you see these older threads?
Any help would be appreciated.JMJarige,
The only potential problems with this workflow are:
DVR units (I have a Panasonic, but this is pretty much across the board) seldom produce a 100% DVD-compliant disc, and as most add a rudimentary Menu & navigation system to the disc, produce a first VOB (where the Menus & navigation are located), that is tough, if not impossible to directly Import.
In the production to DVD, there is MPEG2 compression applied. If one edits that material, and then they output to any compressed CODEC, the quality loss is easily seen
When I convert from VHS for a client, I create a DVR DVD disc, for their archives (in case the tapes die), but then Capture to DV-AVI to be edited to a DVD-Video. The client gets two sets of discs - one that is produced by the DRV, and then one that is the finished edit of their tapes. For me, it's a two step process, but gives them a backup, plus a finished product.
Good luck,

regards,<b>Procedure</b>
When we activate the Smartform the system generates a Function Module. The function module name we can get from Smartfrom screen from menubar
Environment => Function Module_Name . In a report we can get this Function module name by calling a Function Module standard SSF_FUNCTION_MODULE_NAME. This function module at runtime calls the FM generated by smartform, which in turn is then used to pass data from the report to Smartform. In the report given below the FM generated is /1BCDWB/SF00000152 . In this FM we can see CONTROL_PARAMETERS in import tab. This is of type SSFCTRLOP. We need to set the GETOTF of this to be X. Setting this field will activate the OTF field in smartform.
In export tab of the FM generated by smartform we can see a parameter JOB_OUTPUT_INFO which is of type SSFCRESCL. The SSFCRESCL is a structure of having one of fields as OTFDATA. OTFDATA in turn is a table of type ITCOO. ITCOO has two fields TDPRINTCOM and TDPRINTPAR. TDPRINTCOM represents command line of OTF format data and TDPRINTPAR contains command parameters of OTF format data.
In every Smartform output in OTF format, TDPRINTCOM begins and ends with //. EP represents the end-of-page value for TDPRINTCOM field.
In addition we need to set few fields at the place where we call this FM(generated by smartform) in our program. While calling this FM we should set control_parameters, output_options, user_settings and job_putput_info fields as shown in program.
Once these settings are done we can call Function Module CONVERT_OTF to convert the OTF data of smartfrom output to PDF data format. Once these are done we can call method cl_gui_fronted_services=>file_save_dialog to specify the directory path where we want to save the output PDF file. After this we can call Function Module GUI_DOWNLOAD to download the PDF file on our local system.
<b>Here is a sample code of program to perform the function.</b>

Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes?
I'm new to this so forgive me for my ignorance...
I've been editing HD video footages shot in PANASONIC HVX200 P2, shot in 23.976fps... Now that I'm almost done, I've been talking to a lot of people (including COLORISTS that I spoke to). They are asking why I did not use APPLE PRORES 422.
QUESTION: Should I convert what I did from DVCPro HD codec to ProRes? If YES, what's the easiest way for me to do this without starting from scratch. Is there an easy step in FCP that I can do to recapture from my RAW P2 files? If there is a way, will my existing sequences work fine if I just recapture raw files?
WHAT I HAVE:
RAW P2: from Panasonic HVX
Editing: Final Cut Pro 7
A/V FCP preset settings: DVCPRO HD 1080pa24
BTW, everything is fine with what I have but a couple of people I spoke with said I'll have better quality using Apple ProRes. Doing some test stuff, I noticed DVCPRO HD captures in 1280x1080, AND if I capture from APPLE PRORES it's 1440x1080. Since I'm not an expert on this, I'm not sure if the difference would be beneficial to what I'm doing.
I'm working on an indie digital movie hopefully for digital projection.
Thanks for the help!First just a wee bit of advice .. you say in your post that you have FCP 7 - this is the FCPX forum you will always get faster maybe even better responses if you post in the Final Cut Studio forum which includes FCP 7. That said ..I will try to help ..
Your HVX200 captures onto the P2 card as DVCPRO HD (4:2:2) which is a compressed format not really intended to be an editing friendly codec .. (better than many others but still not ideal). When you ingest it into FCP 7 the Log and Transfer window has a wee preference tab in which you can set the codec .. I would use ProRes 422 or ProRes 422 (LT) if space is an issue. The incoming 'Transfer' is then decompressed and coded to ProRes 422 .. The main advantage is the ease of edit with no loss of quality.
