Always the same old questions when things happend:
1) What is your motherboard model? Updated to the latest BIOS? X(  Try to give more system info next time...
2) What is your driver for GF4? Try latest version 30.30 from MSI... becarefully, you will have to download drivers saperately for XP and WindowsME...
3) If you are a OCing your MOB, try to turn OC off first... as they are the cost of problem most of the time.
4) OS version? Make sure you have the latest SP (Service Pack)
5) DirectX 8.1 installed?
Download~download~download~update~update~update!!
Cheers~~~!

I have installed a Geforce 4 ti4600 in my computer and have had nothing but headaches.  I have been benchmarking at 11,869 at 1024x768-32 no AA  on 3dmark 2001se.  The card began to work fine for a little while.
I am now experiencing poor image quality in Battlefield 1942 and unreal 2003.  I get blue speckles and horizontal segmentation of images (looks like a sloppy GL graphics.) I have adjusted both core and mem clock settings on the card to reduce possble strains on the card.  What are the blue specks?  Is it possible my card is shot?

  • MSI GF4 TI4600 8872

    I´ve buyed a MSI G4TI4600-VTD (MS-8872) as a bulk version by ebay.
But the card doesn´t look like the picture on your homepage.
It is red instead of green and has an other fan.
The seller told me that this card is a newer revision 2.0 of the MS-8872.
Is it right that a new revision exists with another color of the card or is he trieing to fool me?
    Thanks

What does it show up as in Device manager?
What does the fan look like? can you direct me to another model that has the same fan?
PS I am consulting our crystal ball on this one.
    Crystal ball says:
The bulk version (green, red or purple) is generally for SI (system integrator) or OEM
The picture shown on website is for retail version
What the user need to do is to take a look at the card if he can find the model number MS-8872
If yes, then the card is correct

  • Okay, here is a GF4 Ti4600 problem for you

My MSI Ti4600 problem has a problem blocking in games. It runs a little blocky in most games, but NFS Porsche is the worst.
I had a LeadTek GF3 w/64 meg RAM in there before that ran great. I really don't know why I wanted to change it... The same games ran great on my GF3, and continue to run great on the same GF3 in my P3 750 machine. Here are my machine specs:
    P4 2.0 GHtz
    768 meg pc800 ram
Western Digital 120 gig 7200 rpm w/8 meg cache
Western Digital 40 gig 7200 rpm
600 watt (yes, 600) power supply
    MSI GF4 Ti4600
    Intel D850EMV2 motherboard
    Aopen 12x DVD
    Samsung 40x12x40 cd-rw
    USB 2.0
    D-Link ethernet card
    Creative Labs Audigy Platinum EX
    Direct X 9
Windows XP home on the 120 gig drive and Red Hat Linux 8.0 on the 40 gig drive.
Also, the case, processor, chipset, hard drives and video card are all liquid cooled. The card is not overclocked and my video settings are set at 800x600. I had Direct X 8.1 in and it still did the same thing. My 3D Mark score is almost identical to the GF3 card at 11,700.
So what gives? Is this video card as cheap as I think it is?

    Okay, problem solved!
I went with the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro, which by the way, uses more power than the GeForce 4 Ti4600, and have not looked back since! Oh yeah, I am using the same power supply too

Be careful about what you call a POS. My guess is that there are less than a dozen power supply manufacturers, as listed on the net. I can assure you that in manufacturing, one company will make the same product and put different names on it for other companies, distributors etc.....
Now a question for deathstalker and wonkaboy:
After about two days of searching the net, magazines, manufacturer's sites and speaking with techs in large and small computer stores, why did I find absolutely no articles or comments about Geforce 4's and power problems?  If they need as much power as YOU say, and most power supplies sold in computers are around the 300 watt flavor( and not all antec), then why are there no articles or complaints about it? Why do the manufacturer's not put XXX watts combined required on the box, in the readme or in the manual? Because it is nowhere near an issue you are making of it.
Seriously, with thousands upon thousands of GeForce 4's sold, and nothing about power problems? Except here, of course.
By the way, I did find one site ( Best Buy I think) that listed some power requirements, they averaged at 300 watt power supply, if it was even listed. Most 300, some 250 and only one 350. All with no combined power recommendation.
If MSI has a need, it is heat sinks for the memory chips and a better gpu heat sink, but like your power supply idea, this is just an opinion.
I should've learned from the MSI mobo I had briefly. It had a nice little habit of supplying power to the KVM switch and optical mouse when it was shut down. I, however, got absolutely no help on the old website with this problem.
Now, after all that, I must thank the two of you for replying to this thread and trying to help me with this problem.
    Thank You!
That is something I am sure you don't hear often on the net, or even in this message board :(

When I just touch the video card a little with the power off (without removing at all), it gets back normal when I restart...
The pins on the monitor cable maybe bent.  Can you try another monitor.
Could be something loose somewhere on card maybe?  Bad solder somewhere etc.  When card warms up it can lose connection.
What are the Power Supplies.  Can be the root of alot of problems exp with Gf4 (make and wattage of PSU can be the difference of it working or not)
Bluesky.  I'm not familier with grounded AC plug.  Does this have three wires, or is it a separate wire???

  • BIG PROBLEM WITH A GF4 Ti4600 128MB 8872 AND WIN XP

Hi all i have a big problem, I have a GF4 Ti4600 128MB 8872 vid card and i have installed the drivers that came with it on the msi cd. I went to restart my computer after the install and found that windows would no longer boot up. Sometimes it would make it to the loading bar for windows and other times the monitor would just go blank after the bios check. Right now the only way i can get into windows is through safe mode. I also have another Visiontek Ti4600 but it has been giving me problems so i decided to try this out. Please help me!!!! ;(  ;(

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
    1. Motherboard: Don't know off hand
    2. IRQs: No conflics on them.
    3. Vid card is using IRQ 5
    4. Power Supply: Achieve ATX300W/P4A
Ok, since first post, I was on Windows XP with SP1. I noticed in the display settings, the AGP stuff was all on with AP2 checked. I could not uncheck any of them.
Out of frustation, I installed Window 2000 (no sp, or updates yet, just fresh install off the orig win2k CD) and reinstalled the latest MSI drivers and it seems to work now. The AGP setting however are all unchecked and you can not check any of them. What is going on here? Hmm.. I remember on one tab it says in PCI mode (this is under win2k). So, it would indicate at least on my config, that its something to do with the AGP setting maybe?? Like I said, under XP, they are set to on and the speed is 2, on win2k, they are all off.

  • MSi GF4 Ti4800 temp

    Hi there
Posted this in the MOBO forum, but got no reply, maybe because this is mainly a Graphics card question ! DOH !
Hope you guys can help !
As you can see in my sig, I have an MSI GF4 Ti4800 in a Neo875P PCB2 mobo. At the weekend I encountered a bit of a problem. After about 6 hours of use, with the CPU running at 100% most of the time (at 46 - 49 degrees) I started to get strange patterns scrolling vertically down the screen. I was unable to make out anything on the screen so I had to hit the reset button. When the machine had rebooted, I ran sppeedfan (v4.13) which reported the GF4 was reaching a temp of around 60 degrees ! When the temp got above 65 degrees I got the wierd patterns again.
This is the first time I've really had a long session since I installed this mobo. Everything else is quite cool - CPU (46-49 degs 100%), HD's (30-35 degs) and case (38 degs).
Is the fact that the North fan is right above the H/S on the GF card causing the card to over heat ? I've removed the fan that came with the card (I've have the card about 14 months or so) and replaced it with a Thermaltake cooper H/S and fan. This HAS made a difference, the temp has not risen above 60 degrees - but this is still really hot.
Is there anything else I can do ? Does the North bridge fan blow or suck ?
Is there much improvement (performace wise) to be had in upgrading to a FX5900 128mb card (MSI or Gainward Gold Sample) ? The MSI FX5900 XT-VTD128 has a fan at the back and front of the card, so I'm wondering if this will foul on the north bridge fan ? Anyone using one of these ?
    Thanks
    Fred

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X tech question

Hi everyone, I hope u can help me with this:
I'm planning on buying a MSI GF4 Ti4200 VTD8X (Video In) from the United States which uses the NTSC system for Video, however where I live we use the PAL system for Video. So my question is will I be able to use the Video In feature of the card ?( ?? Do these cards work using both video systems or are there different video versions of the card?
    Thanks in advance!

    bondock,
It is my understanding that they will work with both systems. They do not make them market specific.

  • Overclocking MSI GF4 ti4200td 4xagp

I was wondering if anyone knows what are reasonable overclocks for the msi gf4 ti4200 td 4x agp card. Today I adjusted the core to 300 and used the auto adjust feature for the memory and got it up to 567. Things are running stable but I was wondering if this is too high or if there are any limits I should not pass? Can it go higher? I only have the default heatsink and fan for the GPU and no heatsinks on the ram. Should I worry about temps?

If you aren't getting artifacts on your screen then I think it should be fine. Run a few more games and watch for colorful pixels. If you get them then clock down a bit.
Have Fun, don't blow your card
