Msi gx 623 no turbo boost

hello everyone,
i have my msi gx 623 laptop for over the years now, at the begining for like 8 months everything was ok, with turbo off cpu speed was almost 2.0MHz with turbo on cpu speed always jumped to over 2,3MHz.
Now for last few months i've noticed that my turbo button doesn't boost cpu while playing games.
this one screen was taken with turbo off
and this one with turbo on
anyone have any idea what can be wrong? as you can see, all what turbo does is rises cpu temp nothing else.
im runing win 7 x64 and bios wasn't updated at all

As I said before, put W7-32bit on it, unless you have specific 64bit software you must run, as I do believe SCM doesn't function.
32bit software with hardware control won't work in 64bit windows!
Nor does any 32bit program benefit anything being run in 64bit Windows.
To say brief: Do not run 64bit Windows if you don't know why you run it.
i run 64bit because 32bit doesnt use all of my 4gb rams, well at least it didnt one year ago.
btw how can you explain why i had no problem with win 7 64bit and turbo boost 4-5 months ago?
here is some proof that scm doesnt have problem functioning on 64bit, the only thing that doesnt work is that cpu speed doesnt boost with turbo on

    I own a msi ge70 2oe ssd version.Turbo boost is not working.
Notebook is on high performance or balanced mode doesn't matter it only goes 2.4 ghz max.(Max gpu %100)I tested max cpu clock rate in Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool and cpu-z while playing battlefield 4.

The reason it probably goes to 3.x GHz right away and then drops rather quickly to 2.4 GHz is most likely due to heat. 97C is getting close to the Tmax for the processor, and it's probably throttling back the CPU in order to keep it from being hurt.
Most likely you need to open the notebook up and replace the heatsink compound on the CPU and GPU (89C is rather hot IMHO for the GPU).
Or you can contact MSI and do an RMA.

  • MSI GE70 2OE-012NL lost Turbo Boost after updating firmware? (or not)

    Read EDIT2
    Hi,
I just found out about the 2013-08-15 firmware update (version 1506) for my MSI GE70 2OE-012NL.
After flashing this, my cpu load doesn't go over 99% and max speed is around 2.38GHz. Before it had peaks to 3.40Ghz because of the Turbo Boost. (tested with Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool)
    Any insight on this?
EDIT: speed reduction is very noticable in applications like AutoCAD/REVIT/Cubase (rendering) and games (Battlefield 3 automatically threw me back to 'low' profile in graphic settings where it was 'high' before).
EDIT2: it's going up to 3.29Ghz again with a new test in Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool. Weird. Nevertheless I would like to know what the differences are.

  • MSI X58 PLATINUM, the latest bios and how to enable turbo boost

    1) Wich motherboard is ? MSI X58 PLATINUM or MSI X58 PLATINUM SLI ?
    2) What is the lastest version Bios and where can i get ?
    3) How to enable turbo boost in this motherboard ?
    4) Thanks so much guys.

My bad. The obvious lack of your self research got the better of me. I do not take helping, if I can, lightly. This is new technology, & a lot of expertise is in short supply. I downloaded the manual on this board & read the bios section, & in CMOS Setup, you should find an "Enable" setting for Turbo Boost. If you don't, please contact MSI Tech Staff @ http://ocss.msi.com.tw Also, (in your manual), is a reference under "Intel Turbo Boost Tech", which clearly states "for further information please refer to Intel's official website". By your original post, CPU-Z says it's an SLI? What did you buy? Does it say on the retail box? At MSI's website, the X58 Platinum (not the SLI), has version 1.0 bios offered in three global region zip files. M7522v1.0 Euro.zip, M7522v1.0 ASIA.zip, & E7522v1.0.zip. J.T.N. is correct, the SLI board takes something else. Are both boards bios's compatable? I have no idea. Recommend step one as to confirm with MSI what board you truly have & go from there.

  • MSI P67A-C45 - C-State, Turbo Boost, RAM and UEFI questions

I received my MSI P67A-C45 B3 a few days ago. After having installed the OS and the rest, I tried to enable C-State (no limit) and surprisingly it works (with the B2 it caused a freeze). After some time I noticed a sort of high pitched noise and I knew it was the C-State because I had read it here. So I just disabled it, later I'll tray to see if the other C-States (C3, C6, etc.) work without any noise. I'll also try different combinations of the phase mode, currently I'm using Intel SVID because it has a slightly lower idle voltage.
    1) First thing, why do I hear a noise only when C-State is enabled? I'm curious.
    2) I've also read that disabling the C-State affects how Turbo Boost works, is it true? If yes, what is the difference? Honestly I don't see any relation, one is a power saving feature and the other gives temporary extra performance when needed.
    3) About the B3, I noticed that my RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws 1333MHz) haven't the correct timings, they are one value higher (more loose, for example 10 instead of 9).
This didn't happen with the B2 and UEFI 1.8, all the timings were exactly those in the JEDEC #4 profile. I see that in version 1.9 and 1.A they've improved memory compatibility, perhaps it's related?
Anyway since it doesn't matter to me I just left them on auto.
    4) I'm not planning to update my UEFI (B3 came with v1.9) for a few months since it works fine (except that small RAM problem) and I don't overclock.
I noticed that the latest version is 1.A, so it's normal to use 1.A after 1.9? I've never seen it before.

This might shed some light on question #1. Reply #17; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=147219.0
    Thanks!
Does someone know anything about question #2?
    @krkrkr
I'm currently using APS mode with C-State enabled and the noise isn't there. The strange thing is that the Vcore is the same both with C-State enabled or disabled. Anyway I think I'll continue using APS mode with C-State enabled, thanks.
Now I have a problem, I'm trying to update the UEFI but it doesn't work. I downloaded UEFI v1.A for the B3, then I used method I of the MSI HQ Tool but during the UEFI update it blocks at "Preparing to take a new BIOS backup". It just stays like that all the time...
    How can I resolve?
Now I still have v1.9 and if I go in the CPU features I get "Error invalid input method" (or something similar, I can't remember properly). Before trying to update it didn't happen.

  • MSI GE70 2OE - turbo boost doesnt work ?

    Hey all,
im confused of intel turbo boost technology.
I think my notebook wont boost up and I dont know why. My bios is locked so I can not do any overclocking ...
I dont know why but i can not install intel extreme tuning (dont launch when istalled ...)
My power plan settings: maximum performance (100% CPU in detailed settings)
CPU still shows max 2,4 GHZ (in HWinfo) here's the screen:
Also, my question is: how to enable turbo boost when my bios is locked ?

    Thank you for answer.
Yes you're right but it isnt my case.
I have already solved it. Problem was here:
battery and power cable (both together) must be connected in notebook at same time !!
Otherwise turbo boost will be permanently off. So, not only battery or power cable affects this turbo effect,.. but both of this things must be plugged in notebook at same time ... :/ damn

  • MSI Z87 G45 and Intel 4670k Turbo Boost Option Missing?

    In my BIOS (V1.6):
I go into OC>CPU Features and Turbo Boost is not there, I have seen the bottom setting about using Intel's Turbo Boost, to UNDERCLOCK when needed, but I see no Feature to activate Turbo Boost or for some reason has this feature been taken out of V1.6?
Also note that I accidentally reset my XMP RAM profile and is now back to 2400MHz.

Not quite sure but this should be in just OC. Also you don't have to enable turbo boost but manually increase frequency using + and -, leaving all other settings at auto.
You will find there things like Frequency mode (not quite sure how it's worded) so you can either set it to be e.g. 3.4ghz all the time (idle too) or adaptive so when idling, it goes down to 1.5ghz (around..). Look carefully.

  • Z77a-gd65 intel i5 2500k intel turbo boost

    16 gb corsair vengeance ram
    120 SSD
Be quiet dark rock cooler pro
    Seagate HDD 2tb
    Tx 750 PSU
    MSI r7950 twin f
The problem is the Intel turbo boost is acting strange it is shooting up to 8. GHz which can't be possible.
The other thing is my 12 volt is saying it down to 11.889 ish never had any of these problems with the last motherboard which was a p67a-gd65 b3
And no overclock want to just use oc genie but worried with it saying 8. GHz

I can't remember what the + or - voltage variation is for +12V, but I don't think it is anything to be concerned about. Try a couple other utilities to check the CPU speed and temp/voltages. CPUID's CPU-Z and H/W Monitor are good ones.

  • Mobo not allowing Intel Turbo Boost

    Hey,
I build my own pc like 2 month ago and I'm experiencing problems with Turbo Boost. It was enabled when I got it and after a few days it was gone. The whole option wasn't there in the bios. Later i flashed the bios cause i messed something up and it was available again! So I enabled it again and now It isn't available anymore. Do any of you guys have an idea how to fix this?

    Nope it won't.
Leave voltages etc at Auto as CPU should handle this without modifications.
However if you're running stock cooler, run an Intel Burn Test once you change the clock to see if it doesn't go too high than it does with the stock speed.
I am running my non-k i5 4670 at 3.8ghz and I had to manually change the speed, as there was nothing like Intel Turbo Boost
On 3.5 ghz i reach max 90 degrees while stressing :/
So I don't think 3.9 is reachable on stock cooler right?

  • Hyper-V stopped turbo boost and cpu park on my intel 4702mq processor?

    Hi I just got my lenovo thinkpad e540(core i7 4702mq ,256 hyper-x ssd, nvidea geforce 2gb...)
I installed windows 8.1  and server 2012 r2 to separate personal and business use.
The cpu was running at many speeds to preserve battery life (between 0.7ghz and 3.2ghz on turbo boost). After installing the  hyper-v  role, the speed in task manager is stale at 2.19ghz and
all the cores are not being parked even when the system is idle, is this a bug or that's just how virtualization work??
    Thanks!!

Performance mode probably means having higher voltages or higher "optimized" settings to run the system. Fail safe mode already spelt out its intentions to keep the system from failing.
For details, you can contact MSI for more information.
As I stated in my first post, I carefully went through all of the BIOS settings and the only thing I could find different between 'default' and 'optimized' is the setting for 'Intel Turbo Boost'.
I will post a question on the BIOS board about any other differences, but until then my original question remains...
...does anyone know of any problems (and hopefully FIXES) with the P55-GD80 and Intel Turbo Boost?

  • Intel Turbo Boost Not Working

So I'm using an MSI CX41 with i5 3210m which, from 2.5 ghz, can turbo boost to around 3 ghz. I've been playing Dying Light recently and it's really laggy. I checked the monitor and it says that it's at 2.5 ghz but doesn't go higher than that. I figured this might be why my game is lagging. Any ideas?

What kind of game lag do you have? (low FPS? sudden FPS drop?)
    What's the FPS in game?
I think the problem should come from the hardware spec isn't enough for the Dying Light's minimum system requirement.
The CPU will only boosting when there is enough loading on single core.
You can try to lock the CPU to use only single core and see if the turbo boost is working.

  • H77MA-G43 Intel Turbo boost question.

    Hi,
so I've recently bought a MSI H77MA-G43 board to fit in my Intel i7 3770 (non K).
My question is that when I use some hw monitor to show which frequency my CPU is running, it is almost always running all 4 cores at 3.7Ghz. Even when I put load just on 1 core, all 4 cores rise up to 3.7Ghz. AFAIK if I run single threaded app it should turbo boost one core to 3.9Ghz right? Is it a problem or is this normal?
    Thank you

It depends on whether the CPU that you use, not all of them have Turbo Boost. Looking though the manual it does show setting for Turbo Boost. (enabled/disabled)
I use i5 4570 and it has support for sure.
    MSI B85I, Hardware Features(from hardwareversand.de):
Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP) support, Intel Rapid Start Technology, Intel Smart Connect Technology, MSI Military Class IV, Military Class Essentials, OC Genie 4, Intel Small Business Advantage 2.0 support, MSI Fast Boot, 4K resolution support
