Mtrr: type mismatch for d8000000 / Grub  boot command line

Hi,
Dmesg is showing:
mtrr: type mismatch for d8000000,2000000 old: uncachable new: write-combining
(DL380 G5 - generic KVM/LCD Monitor)
I googled for the problem found
Disable MTRR for vesafb. iirc, there's a boot command line option to do it.video=vesafb:nomtrr
Does anyone know this problem, how to fix it, how to put this into Grub to avoid the error on next boot?
Best regards

Is that for the video card you are using? In that case you can just edit "/etc/grub.conf" and add that clause to the line beginning with "kernel" and reboot.

    I never had this with any of the previous kernels.
    Thanks in advance for any help!
    Edit:  Okay, I've gone ahead and opened a bug report on this because I haven't changed anything on the system other than upgrading to the new kernel.

    Update in case anyone else is experiencing this...
    I've still been getting these errors on all the updated stock kernels ever since 2.6.12 was released.  It appears to be a kernel bug, and hopefully will be patched soon.
    In the interim, the only two ways I've found to stop these errors are to add video=vesafb:nomtrr to the kernel line in my menu.lst file, or add video=vesafb:mtrr:2 to the same line.

    Hi SQLDBA321,
    The SSDT-BI is automatically installed under xxx:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\. Now matter in GUI or command line, we can't change the path. Because SSDT is a feature of SQL Server, not a feature of Visual Studio. It just use the Visual
    Studio Shell. So SSDT will only be installed with SQL Server.

  • HT4103 Password for sudo on the command line itself

    Is it possible to provide password for sudo on the command line itself? Something like:
         sudo -pw mypassword ...
    I know it isn't safe but I need it!

    Using a PC to promote OAF customizations from test to production is a way to prevent password from exposing to the public. Using C wrapper to call system() still exposes the passord.

  • Tiger Server: Default MySQL works for phpMyAdmin but not command line ? ? ?

    Greetings all,
    I followed the excellent instructions at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=132783&tstart=0
    on upgrading PHP to version 5 and getting (the preinstalled) MySQL setup with phpMyAdmin
    I can connect through the phpMyAdmin, create new dbs, etc. Problem is that now I CAN'T connect from the command line. (I originally set my new root password from the command line and that's the last time I could connect from there!
    Now I get the dreaded ERROR 2002 when I attempt:
    /usr/bin/mysql -h localhost -u root -p
    If I use the IP address or hostname instead of "localhost" (after -h) I get a ERROR 2003. Dropping the -h and hostname from the line above still gets me a ERROR 2002.
    My phpMyAdmin config is a connect type "TCP" not socket, which might be one reason it works and the command line doesn't, but I still don't know where I've gone wrong.
    My /var/mysql/* is all owned by mysql and group www.
    I'm finding lots of people asking about the ERROR 2002, but not finding any solutions (particularly for Tiger Server). I'd prefer to use the preinstalled MySQL to installing a new installation (the thread referenced above says upgrading or removing the MySQL installation is too hard to do) and there has GOT to be a reasonable explanation for why it works with phpMyAdmin, but not the command line.
    Thanks in advance for any replies!

  • Testing for more than one command line argument

    Ok im writing a client to access a given server. What i want to happen is to say that if you enter one argument at the command line do this code- if you enter more than one do something else. I cant seem think of how to do this though-ive tried testing if args > 0 but it wont let me do that . Here is the code so far:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    class Whereis2
       public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
          int c;
          //whois.geektools.com
          Socket s = new Socket("dante.net.dcs.hull.ac.uk",43);
          InputStream in = s.getInputStream();
          OutputStream out = s.getOutputStream();
            String str = args[0] + "\r\n" ;
             // convert string to bytes, unicode to ASCII
             byte buf[] = str.getBytes();
             // send data to server
             out.write(buf) ;
          while ((c = in.read()) != -1)
         System.out.print ((char) c);
          s.close();
    } Basically i want the code written above to happen is you put in one argument-ie Whereis2 Paul for example. But if i put in Whereis2 Paul "In a meeting" I want it to update the server. Can anyone help me to do this?
    Thanks a lot

    And by the way:
    "Where is Paul" (notice the quotation marks) is a single argument with spaces in it.
    Where is Paul (no quotation marks) is three arguments, no spaces.
    PS. Why are you throwing Exception?

  • Tool for Creating Tracks per command line available?

    Hi all,
    for my master thesis I need to make up a development concept with the JDI.
    What I'm wondering is, is there any ability (maybe hidden option ) to create tracks per command line interface and connect them per command line?
    Another question which came to mind, I would like to control the DTR via the DTR command line tool, is there any option to do this, just without installing the Developer Studio IDE, as I only want to remote control the DTR via command line and don't need developer equipment on the server?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Matthias,
    tracks are stored in the Java database by CMS in its own format and when a buildspace is created on CBS that information is also stored in the Java databse in CBS' own format. Accessing the database directly is not a good idea as you would need additional information that is neither officially published nor supported and that may change.
    Regarding DTR client & IDE: Well, DTR doesn't know about tracks at all, it just stores the sources for track content. The "track" knowledge is part of CMS.
    The command line tool is only distributed with the IDE, but if you just copy the required libraries to the server (you had to edit the batchfile anyway, didn't you?) you do not need the full IDE installation.

    Hi All
    I am writing code for server java proxies .I am trying to get the input parameters ,my code is as follows:

    I am getting typemismatch for this piece of code:JavaproxyINDT_Type obj=new JavaproxyINDT_Type();
    Can anybody help?

    I think the Typemismatch is in the line with "return"
    The method declaration is "void", so you cannot use return here.
    You should modify the interface to "synchronous"

  • How to configure group policy for emet via a command line

    I have been tasked with installing emet on 50 servers that I only have access to with our patching server (so I can't remote in and open the gpedit gui). I can get it to install, but now the problem that I'm facing is I need to enable 6 of the group policies
    for emet. Is there a way to do this while installing it? or a way to do it after the install?

    cmd line you need to deal with is in the C:\Program Files (x86)\EMET 4.1 folder
    specifically emet_conf --refresh would tell the systems to pull in the settings from a GPO they have already applied.
    In a non - SCCM environment I would probably recommend using group policy preferences and create a task scheduler item on your servers that runs emet_conf --import
    \\fileserver\settingsfile.xml on some sort of automated basis. Then you can just configure a client like you need and run the emet_conf --export
    \\fileserver\settingsfile.xml whenever you need to change a mitigation etc and the clients will pick up on the change on their next run of the task scheduler item.
    In general installing on servers isn't a great idea and is not the intended use case for emet however if you are DoD/Gov then DISA has mandated it so won't argue there.  There's also the people that still have Internet access from servers so then it
    would make sense in that environment as well.

  • Command line to change file type association?

    I'm trying to find the correct way to change the association for .PDF files by command line, to add to a deployment script.  The client mahcines have Reader X and Acrobat 7.  I'm trying to get it so by default, all users on a machine will use Acrobat 7 to open PDF files.  I have had no luck editing the registry key under Explorer/Shell, or using the commands FTYPE and ASSOC.  Is there another way to get this done?

    Hi Brian,
    You're looking for a hack because not only are 7 and 8 not supported, they are doubly not supported in conjunction with Reader 10.0. If you had 9.x and later products, you could specify which app was the default PDF handler. There could be a way to do what you want, but you're out in the wilderness on this one.

  • Documenting command line arguments

    I'm very new to javadoc, and I'm trying to put together a set of guidelines for our developers to follow. One thing I came accross was command line arguments. If a main function is expecting command line arguments, how would this be documented, should @param be used? I didn't see anything about this in the guidelines sun has posted. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    This is my own personal opinion, so don't treat it as a "fact", but I don't think Javadoc is best suited for specifying command line arguments. You could do the following:
    *  Description of main() here...
    * @param args First parameter = xxx, Second parameter = yyy;
    public static void main(String[] args)
    }In this way you can specify all command-line parameters that are required in order to make the appliction run.
    BUT...
    Javadoc is meant more to be a programmatic guide to how to allow Java classes to interoperate. Java classes (mostly) will not care at all what the command-line parameters to the main invocation are. That is information that is only really needed to be known by the application executor at runtime.
    Therefore, for all my apps, I do the following to comment what types of parameters should be passed to the invocation of the application:
    * My App comments...
    * @param args Run application without any parameters to see list of all necessary command-line parameters.
    public static void main(String[] args)
       if (args.length < 1)
          System.out.println("This application allows the following parameters:");
          System.out.println("   Param#1 = xxx, <description>");
          System.out.println("   Param#2 = yyy, <description>");
          System.exit(0);
    }In this way, you do not clutter up the Javadoc APIs (used for classwise interaction) with command-line parameters, but the command-line parameters are still specified by "documentation" (running the application without any parameters).
    If parameters are optional, instead of mandatory, you could do something similar...
    * Documentation...
    * @param args Run -h as first flag for list of all optional parameters.
    public static void main(String[] args)
       if ((args.length > 0) && (args[0].equals("-h"))
          // Print out all possible parameters.
    }Anyway, this system has held me in good stead for the last couple of years.
