Multi-Camera Music Video

Hi, Thanx in advance for your help.
We did a multi-camera shoot of a band.  We ran through the set twice with 4 cameras, thats a total of 8 tracks.  The 2nd run through for the stationary camera on the drummer can be dropped to reduce the count to 7.   Hopefully the timing on the first and second set will the same.  It should be close as these guys are tight.
I'm hoping some seasoned Premiere user can give me some pointers on how to best do a 7 camera Multi-Camera edit.
I was thinking I would do each 4 camera shoot as a multi-camera edit and then, assuming they synch, take the output from each set and do them as a two "camera" multi-camera edit.
Is there a better way?
Of course, if the don't synch...I try not to think about that.
Thanx,
Mel

Mel,
What version of Pr are you using. Not sure that Multi-camera was added until PrPro. I've got it in PrPro 2.0, and it may have been around from PrPro 1.0. I just do not know about earlier versions of Pr.
If you are using PrPro, then you'll want to post HERE, as this forum is for Premiere, the precursor of PrPro. You'll get a lot more traffic and help in the PrPro forum.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • How to add newly imported audio - as a new storyline/angle to existing multi cam Project??

I have a 6 camera multi cam Music Video Project I have been working on in depth for 5 days. The "band" has sent me a new & improved .wav file to replace the audio I have been working with on one "song". I have imported it into the event, cannot figure out how to add it as a new angle (that I will manually sync on the timeline) and then make it the active audio monitor angle. I see ways to "connect it" but not how to have it appear in the 6up display & on its own story/time line in the precision editor. This is like reinventing the wheel. I am losing mu mind. Please help?
    Thanks

Man oh man. I need to take a break & eat somthing, how embarassing. I swear I knew that but had an attack of hysterical blindness or... the disclose arrow>add new...  Thank You Tom for your quick & thouriough reply. Have a swell holiday.

  • Multi-Camera edits not applied

Hi and thanx in advance for your help.
Premiere Pro CS5. Windows 7 Pro 16 GB RAM lots of disk space.  Premiere It is patched with all patches except the latest Facebook synch patch.  This started a month ago.  It may be related to the number of Timelines in a project.  On my last project I started having this problem after about 10 Timelines were created in the project (a multi-song music video shoot).  In my current project (a 6 hour talking head seminar) I now have about 10 Timelines and it started doing it again so that may be a related issue.
I am doing a four camera shoot.  I create a base timeline with all four cameras for each speaker.  I then use that speaker's base timeline to create a multi-camera edit timeline that I edit with the Multi-Camera Monitor window editing function.  If I stop to make an immediate correction or to take a break, I restart by clicking the timeline window to make it the active window and opening the Multi-camera Monitor editing window and start editing.  I'll go 10 or 15 minutes and stop only to find none of the edits are applied,  The edits are exactly as they were before I started back up.  Once I get about 10 timelines or so I begin to see this behaviour. This behaviour is inconsistent and there is no way to know if the edits will be applied until I stop.
I could try breaking up the project but each individual speaker's timeline is pulled from the primary timeline that contains all the speakers.  (I copy the synched multi camera tracks and paste them into a new timeline for each speaker.)
Does ayone know what causes this?
    Or how to fix it?
    Again Thanx in advance,
    mel

I am trying to determine the new project preset for a multi-camera video shot as follows:  3 Canon camcorders,
Main shot is DV (tape) (720x480, 29fps) - ceremony and reception
    b-roll is DVD (mini-disk) (720x480, 29fps) - bride preparations
additional b-roll is AVCHD (1920x1080, 29fps) - groom preparations and misc all day ceremony and reception.
Film is from a wedding, DV contains main footage so I assume it will need to be the base.  I am planning to use the preset for DV-Widescreen.  Is there a better option?  I'm concerned about playback as the three appear to have different PAR.  I'm using Premiere Elements 10 on W8.
Ultimately this will be burned for two formats - one for a DVD that can be watched on a widescreen TV, second for a short clip trailer to go on vimeo.
(And no I won't be doing this again for a wedding that I shoot.)

Please review since I am not sure how you obtained Video 3 tall when you scaled Video 3 with Constrain Proportions in effect.
    Before
    After
It becomes a zoomed in effect to get rid of the black borders. But, there is no tall and thin involved anywhere.
And, after the Scale increase, you can always click on the screen and move the image around a bit
(without overdoing it to get black borders again).
    After and an adjust
Please let us know if you are OK with the information above.
    Thank you.

  • While multi-camera monitor is open video output looks strobed

While the multi-camera monitor is opne the video output to my DV deck looks strobed and soft.  Any ideas?  I have CS 6 with a Sony DV deck on a MacPro 5,1.  When I close the multicamera monitor the video on the output monitor becomes sharp again.  This is simply unnacceptable as I need to see the video in full rez while playing back.

The multicamera monitor has always had an "adaptive resolution" when it comes to playback, meaning the resolution would degrade if it needed to (based on your system's capabilities) in order to keep up real time playback, which is more critical for multicam editing than full res playback.

  • Render slow after neat video nested multi cam sequence

Guys this is silly, usually i am rendering like lightning, but after a really dark shoot i needed neat video which has saved my life but after creating a multi cam sequence every time i go back to change something in the synced sequence the whole timeline in the cs6 edit goes back to all red line after i have already rendered, then it needs rendering all over again after the changes, but because of the neat video and effects its taking days? help steve

Ye Jim your right i have just been thinking to make sure i apply all effects when im ready, yikesss.

  • Multi-camera real-time editing skips the main video window ahead about a minute since update.

I'm working on a 2-camera edit, which I've done numerous multi-camera edits on this machine before with no problem, but now when I am playing back the footage with the multi-camera window and select the other camera, the footage in the main window (the one that shows the footage going on the timeline) jumps ahead about a minute.  It doesn't matter which camera is choosen, it causes either to jump ahead about a minute in that main window making it almost impossible to edit.
The footage doesn't jump ahead in the smaller, individual camera windows on the left, just the main window.  I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this problem just started occuring since the most recent update to Premiere Pro CC.  I installed that update last night and wasn't having this problem prior to that.
How can I remove the most recent update to test this theory?
    Specs:
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.0 (46)
    Win 7 64-bit

    Kendall,
Great video showing exactly what you're experiencing.  Thanks!  Wow, something definitely seems severely wrong when nothing has changed on your machine except the version of PPr.  Just a couple random thoughts (that probably won't make a difference):
    1. Are you using Multi-cam Clips (i.e. created the way most Adobe tutorials teach you to create them), or are you using a Nested Sequence with Multi-cam Enabled (i.e. the way most on this forum would recommend)?
    2. Does life get better when you exit Dropbox completely (or if you uninstall it)?
    3. Do you have other items, like Dropbox, running?  Close them all?
    4. Does the same thing happen with different kinds of footage formats?
    5. What version of Anti-virus?  Try turning it completely off?
Again, you've probably considered the last two, but if not, it's the first thing I might try.
For what it's worth, I'm running CC 7.1 on Windows 7 64-bit and I'm not experiencing this issue.  Not that it's ideal, but I performed the same test you show above while I was running Microsoft Outlook (a few emails open and 3 reminders), Chrome (about 15 instances with 2 or 3 tabs each).  Also, background programs running:  Microsoft OneNote (desktop version), Bluetooth and WiFi running, Spyder3 monitor calibration utility, CineForm Status viewer (a constantly running service of GoPro Studio) and Webroot Secure Anywhere.  Even under these quick and dirty testing conditions, multi-cam is working great for me in 7.1 (I use Nested Sequences; not Multicam-clips).  I had a real problem back in July/August that may have been brought about by using Multi-cam clips.  I switched to using Nested Sequences, instead, and I haven't had that type of issue since.
I hope there is something helpful for you in all of that.
    Best luck!

I can't sync the Not Afraid music video that I purchased this morning to my iPod Classic. It's frustrating because I have no issues syncing other videos and the rest of the album that this video came with synced just fine. Below is an image of what my screen looks like when I try to drag the video across to my iPod:
    Please help!

You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you sync with another one the iPod will be erased and its contents replaced with what is in the library of the second computer.
However, you can manage music among multiple computers. See:

  • How to change camera angles frequently (Like in music videos)

Hey I'm trying to make a music video of my own and I have 6 video clips of a shot of the band, guitarists, bass, singer, and drums and I want to know if there is any way you can like set a priority to what video is being shown so you dont have to chop up each clip and you can just keep them all whole but just set something so that one clip is the only clip being shown at that time and then switch every 3 seconds or so. Please help if there is any tool that does this.

Look up mulitcam editing in the PPro docs.
Basically: First, create a "source" sequence. Each video feed on it's own layer in the timeline. Sync them as required.
Next, create a new "multicam" sequence. Nest your source sequence into the multicam sequence by dragging the source sequence icon from the Project panel into the multicam timeline. Enable multicam editing on this sequence. Notice that this nested squence shows you exactly one video feed. This is normal, not to worry, all will be clear soon.
Now, open the multicam editing monitor. You'll see all of your different camera angles on the left hand side, and the "current" angle on the right hand side -- this corresponds to the camera angle on the left hand side with the highlight around it. Use your pointing device to select which angle is active. Start your video playing. As it plays, use your pointing device to pick which angle to show at any particular time by clicking on a camera angle on the left hand side of the multicam monitor. Be quick, this is real-time work. When you stop, you'll see the cuts made on your timeline. Each cut is identified by camera number, which corresponds to the video track number of your source sequence.
Finally, go back through your timeline to each cut, and use the rolling edit tool to move that cut back and forth to fine tune the location of each camera angle change. You can do this as often as you need to.
It sounds complicated, but in practice it's simple and quick.

  • Video glitch: Flashing during multi-cam playback

Mac OSX Yosemite 10.10.2.  Maxed out iMac 2013.
Latest Adobe PP Patch 2014.2 Release Build 8.2.0 (65)
I'm having an issue with my multicam.  When I perform a roll or slip edit, it causes the Program Monitor (which is in multi-cam mode) to flicker between either a black screen, or a previous edit.  It won't do playback either when this occurs.  Sometimes I can fix the issue by opening a non-multicam sequence, and then clicking back to the multicam sequence, but more often than not, I have to quit.  In a 30min multicam, this occurs however often I need to change my tool, which may be 10 times.
Anyone else had this?  Is is my GPU drivers on my Mac?  I have no idea how to update those drivers on mac, traditionally it's done for me via App Store and not often since drivers are not updated as often as Windows.  This was never a problem on Mavericks.  Anyone else?

    Hi Lawrence,
    Try this:
Please go to File > Project settings > General and change the Video Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine software only. Click Ok and select Delete Previews.
Let me know if this helps.
    Thanks,
    Rameez

  • Video Disappears in Multi camera edits CS5.5, source tracks visable

I have had this occur more than once, and I am not sure what is going on, or if it can be fixed.
I am editing a 3 camera multi sequence, MacBook Pro, i5 processor, 8 gigs of Ram.
I save frequently, as for some reason, Premiere crashes occasionally, always after a lengthy session of edits (unsaved of course!).
Yesterday, after a series of edits, it crashed. I had saved just before this, so I chose NOT to re-open the file using the "re-Open" button on the crash notifing screen, and instead opened the original project from the file menu.
When it opened, I noticed that camera 3 in the multicam edits was black: no video. BUT, I have audio from the time line. The video portion is simply black, and it is showing black in the multi-cam screen too.
Ah HA! I say to myself... The track is turned off in the "source" sequence, so I look to turn it back on, and it is not OFF. It is visable, and should be seen in the multicam section. I tried turning it off, then on again, and still no luck.
I don't want to have to start over, but I don't know what to do. This has happened before, but with smaller seqences, so I just re-editied the sequence.
Anyone know what is going on?
    Thanks!

Well, seems I am chasing my tail here... Not a problem with the tracks, but a problem in the sequence saving the wrong camera in the multi cam edit. When the system shut down, it must have changed the cuts funny, as the camera that was black, had no video in the track at the time of the cut. So it looks like the program saved the camera cuts incorrectly, and there wasn't an issue with the tracks not showing up. I just had to look more carefully.
Strange, but, that's technology for ya!

  • Using video filters on multi-cam clip

I was at an Apple Store on Saturday trying to get some instruction on using a video filter to brighten up some portions of a multi-cam timeline. We weren't able to do it. Does anyone know whether filters can or can't be used when using Multi-cam editing?

Do you have this checked on in preferences?
Depending on your format, the application will probably work much more efficiently with an I-frame codec, but it depends on the speed of your computer, drives, and the number of angles.

I bought an album that also came with music videos. All the songs downloaded properly, but none of the videos. Next to them it said Stopped-Error 3150, I tried to restart the downloads and now most just say Stopped, some say Stopped-Error 8003, which means Network issues, but after checking, I found there are no issues with my network. Help?

I am having this same problem with my brand new Mac Pro. It seems to be tied to the computer awaking from sleep (no I am not leaving the iPod connected while sleep... I am referring to waking the computer from sleep and then connecting iPod as opposed to restarting the computer and then connecting the iPod). In other words, if you are getting this error message, try ejecting the iPod, restart your computer, then connect the iPod and see if the error message goes away. For me it does, but I only get one shot at it, if I eject the iPod and then reconnect it, the error message returns. This happens on both iPods I have. I have rebooted (hold menu-select) and gone to disc mode (hold select-play) and the error message remains. The only way it goes away is to reboot the computer, then I get one shot at hooking up an iPod.
I NEVER had nor get this error message when I connect to the Windows PC that I started with. Perhaps the iPod does not like moving from PC to Mac?

  • Needs advice on Cam for Music-Video!

Is the Sony HDR-FX1 a good choice to shoot Music-Video's and is it also the same HDR-FX1e.
Secondly the reviews on these Cam says PAL, so would it make a big difference in comparison to NTSC, or can you change to NTSC while your in FCP.
And what is the big difference in Shooting in PAL or NTSC?
Or even to edit in PAL or NTSC other than one being American base format and the Other European?
And how good is the Mic on the Cam or is it better to get another Mic in doing live Recordings on locations?
And whats the best intergration with Logic-Pro 7 ?
    L.P. 7.1.
    L.P. 7.2.1
    L.P. 7.2.3.
Or is it better with Logic-Pro 8?
And does it runs flawless on Tiger 10.4.9, in short what is the best OSX, or should i update to Leo?
    Fr.BlayZay.

I read about Panasonic AG-DVX 100 Cam that shoot in 24f and before its print in FCP, the pull down takes it to 29f.
And the Sony i believe shoot near enough the same as the Panasonic.
So if that's the case would the conversion of FCP for the pull down come out alright, there is no point really in jumping to another Forum when the integration is with FCP!
Just need to get a cam that integrates well with FCP for a budget of under $4,000.00 and in the range of 29.97f,
