Using video filters on multi-cam clip

I was at an Apple Store on Saturday trying to get some instruction on using a video filter to brighten up some portions of a multi-cam timeline. We weren't able to do it. Does anyone know whether filters can or can't be used when using Multi-cam editing?

Do you have this checked on in preferences?
Depending on your format, the application will probably work much more efficiently with an I-frame codec, but it depends on the speed of your computer, drives, and the number of angles.

  • Multi-cam clip display in event viewer

I have been creating multi-cam clips for several projects.  I am noticing with some multi-cam clips, it is defaulting to an audio track as the monitoring angle.  When I double click on the clip and it appears in the timeline, I am able to change the monitoring angle to a video clip.  However, it never updates in the event browser.  Frequently before I edit, I will pore through clips and tag them.  How do you update monitoring angle so it is also displayed in the event browser?
As you can see from this screen grab, the monitoring angle is set on a video clip but when I watch the clip in the event browser, there is no video

I figured it out.  You can change what clip is showing the event browser by going under display and opening the angle viewer.  You can then pick which track to display.

  • Collapse multi-camera clips?

    Hello forum,
I've said before that I think FCPX multi-cam function is superior to anything else I've used (FCP7 and Premiere) - however, there is a feature of the old FCP7 that I REALLY miss, especially when finishing a show (after the multi-cam edit is done) - when doing sound mixing, titles/thirds, and color grading - "COLLAPSE MULTI-CAM CLIPS." This function disabled multi-cam editing, collapsing the multi-cam clip into a normal segment. When editing a multi-cam clip, the machine is pulling all of the angles in simultaneously during playback, and since I often edit on USB3 externals this is spotty when using 2 angles, and a train wreck of dropped frames when using 3 or more. I am happy to do the multi-cam edit using proxy media, but it would be great to be able to go back to original media, collapse the multi-cam clip, and be able to play-back in real-time without all the gglittching!
Does anyone out there have an obvious tip or solution to this issue?
    Thanks!

  • Multi-cam clips and favourites

Have I understood this correctly?  If I have a long clip that I want to break down into 'sub-clips' I can only do so by selecting part of the clip as a favourite. If I now want to make a part of those long clips into a multi-cam clip, one would assume that one would 'favourite' each of the clips and then multi-cam them. However when I do that, the multicam process ignores the 'favourite' attribute and synchronizes the entire clip. This can take a long time. As soon as its done one then has to discard 90% of the labouriously created multi-cam clip. Or is there another way of doing this?

That is not my experience. If you select "Show only Favorites" in the Event Browser, you will see only the parts marked as favorite.
Now select the ones you want and create a new multicam clip. It should just use the favorite, not the whole clip.
Actually, when I did that I used a particular keyword instead of marking as favorite, but I expect it should work as well. If not, then you can do as I did, and mark the portions of the clips you want with an appropriate keyword.

  • When importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed.

when importing files into fcpx from go pro hero2, some are importing as .mov and some as .mp4. when making a multi cam clip it will only add one type, if you try and add the other it says camera clip cannot be processed. need to figure out why it randomly imports differently, or how to add different file tyoes to multi cam.

here is one that is imported and stays .mp4. the specs are same as original file before import.
here is one that has changed somehow during import. specs on original file are same as above, but once it is imported it changes to this in event folder, and others randomly keep the above specs.

  • Color adjustment on Multi-cam clip in 10.1 not working and crash the app

In version prior to 10.1, I can do color adjustment on multi-cam clip and I can see the color change right away.
However, when I do the same action in 10.1, the change doesn't reflect immediately on the viewer. I need to move like a frame to have the effect shown. Sometimes, FCPX shows an error when I do that action and force me to quit the application.
    Anyone having similar issue?
    Any solution?

  • Using Audio Sync for Multi-Cam Edits Premiere Pro CC

Hello everyone - I wanted to share some issues I've come across while using Audio to sync multiple camera angles....
For my music video shoot I have two cameras and an external recorder where I capture the audio and then edit in GarageBand or Adobe Audition. The problem I've discovered is that when I sync the clips using audio it will degrade the quality of my finalized audio clip.
Basically, something is happening to the audio clip quality once Premiere completed the synchronization process. I've rendered the video, exported the video etc... But there is still audio quality degradation.
I've compared this with Final Cut Pro X and the Audio in FCP X remains unchanged and is not altered in any way.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Update: I just happened happened to have a pair of ath m50s lying around.... put them on and I can see that in the multi cam sequence, I can hear only out of the left ear... once I drag and drop something to my timeline the audio's good again...
    Sorry for this question... operator???
I shoot tech videos on YouTube and I edit my own videos, so I guess I am the operator & observer here...
    Am shooting a tutorial...
Cam 1 - My Camcorder that shoots the phone
Cam 2 - Actually a screen recorder that records the steps on screen & audio from webcam
Audio - Blue Spark Digital recording to audacity
Now if I merge Cam 1 & Audio or Cam 2 & Audio alls fine... I can check the audio meters and everythings the same as before
But if I create a multicamera sequence then the audio output is about 20% lower (and no Premiere's not using the audio source from Cam1 or 2 here since they are too low and am 100% sure its not either of those)
I guess am messing up something but am unable to identify what..
    Syncronize Point - Audio
    Track Channel - 1
    Sequence Preset - Automatic
Audio Sequence Settings - Camera 1
Audio Channels Preset - Automatic (or Mono since my Blue Spark records in mono)
    Camera Names - Enumerate Cameras
Any Idea where am messing up?

  • Video Disappears in Multi camera edits CS5.5, source tracks visable

I have had this occur more than once, and I am not sure what is going on, or if it can be fixed.
I am editing a 3 camera multi sequence, MacBook Pro, i5 processor, 8 gigs of Ram.
I save frequently, as for some reason, Premiere crashes occasionally, always after a lengthy session of edits (unsaved of course!).
Yesterday, after a series of edits, it crashed. I had saved just before this, so I chose NOT to re-open the file using the "re-Open" button on the crash notifing screen, and instead opened the original project from the file menu.
When it opened, I noticed that camera 3 in the multicam edits was black: no video. BUT, I have audio from the time line. The video portion is simply black, and it is showing black in the multi-cam screen too.
Ah HA! I say to myself... The track is turned off in the "source" sequence, so I look to turn it back on, and it is not OFF. It is visable, and should be seen in the multicam section. I tried turning it off, then on again, and still no luck.
I don't want to have to start over, but I don't know what to do. This has happened before, but with smaller seqences, so I just re-editied the sequence.
Anyone know what is going on?
    Thanks!

Well, seems I am chasing my tail here... Not a problem with the tracks, but a problem in the sequence saving the wrong camera in the multi cam edit. When the system shut down, it must have changed the cuts funny, as the camera that was black, had no video in the track at the time of the cut. So it looks like the program saved the camera cuts incorrectly, and there wasn't an issue with the tracks not showing up. I just had to look more carefully.
Strange, but, that's technology for ya!

  • I can't get sync'd multi cam Clip.

I'm shooting with 2 cameras, both with audio.  I highlight the clips, right -click and select new multicam clip and use audio waveform to sync.  Instead of getting 1 synced multicam clip with both (camer) angles (clips) showing in the viewer, I get a multiclam clip with the 2 (camera) clips (angles) in sequence: one after the other,  Ive also tried syncing with markers as the starting point, but the same thing happens.
The workaround is to make  synchronized clip, open it in the timeline, and carfully hack out one camera to reveal the other. Ouch.
    Anybody?

I am having a similar issue. My system and FCP are latest updates.
I have a set of clips shot with one tripod camera for the full length, and what looks like one or two other "roving" cameras getting closeups and other angles, but start and top points (not runnign the entire interview). Effectively these are B roll with matching audio.
If I run Sync Clips, it makes a huge mess piling them all one atop another. The audio souds like a party, not a conversation with two people.
When I make a Multicam clip, FCP does a "pretty good job" but some short clips are WAY out of sync...
Then it becomes a puzzle to find where they go.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for monitoring the video of the track on which I have just clicked the clip it's on? the one Multiclip when I am done?
Also, ••• How do I close the Timeline back down to

  • No waveforms when using Multi-camera clips!

    I'm editing with multicam clips.
The audio is from separate WAV files, with 3 tracks.
When I cut some of the multiclip into a timeline, it does NOT display any waveforms.
I could've sworn last time I did this, it DID show waveforms.
Even when I display the waveform for the multiclip in the Source monitor, it shows NOTHING, even though audio does play.
I tried deleting all the waveform peak files / caches, then Pr rebuilt them, but still shows nothing.
    Anyone have a solution??
The ONLY place the waveforms DO show is when viewing the actual Multicam source sequence in the timeline.
    (Pr 7.2.1 on Mac 10.9.1)

    I figured it out ...
You MUST set the panning of the tracks in the Multiclip sequence to Left/Right alternating (these are mono tracks), and set the stereo outputs (or "Direct Output Assignment") for all tracks ... e.g.,
    Track 1 > Left 100 > 1+2
    Track 2 > Right 100 > 1+2
    Track 3 > Left 100 > 3+4
    etc..
If you try to set the tracks as if they were truly Mono/Centered, then your destination sequence does not show waveforms correctly.
A bug, if you ask me...

  • Using Smart Filters to keep Camera Raw and filter plug-ins access

I am wondering if what I am trying to do is reasonable and possible.
I know I have seen some workarounds where you can open a RAW file directly in Camera RAW,copy a background, make it a smartfilter, and do your editing and then I guess you can go back and still access your Camera RAW settings which definitely has value.  This kind of is outside my normal workflow as I normally start with Lightroom and that won't work I don't think from Lightroom (unless perhaps if I send it to PS "without LR adjustments?".  Now of course you always have access to the original file and starting settings in lightroom, but once you layer PS edits and layers on top of that, you really can't go back.  I'd be willing to start from within Photoshop if somehow this would work.
And, I regularly use smartfilters when I use my NIK filters in PS.
What I ran into today was a situation where it would have been VERY nice to be able to go back to my camera RAW starting develop settings before I went down a long path of Colorefex and Silverefec filters.  Well, at the end, I determined my RAW sharpening was too strong at the beginning of my workflow.  So I was able to get back to my filter settings of course, but I could not get back to Camera Raw to adjust that.
So, is there a way to somehow keep your Adobe Camera RAW settings available to access, however while still being able to layer NIK filters also in a smart filter situation?  Is this a multiple smartfilter soluton?
    Thanks for any input,
    BJBBJB1

    Jeff,
Thanks, I do have the same version of ACR in LR3 and CS5.x.
I am willing to deal with the larger file sizes.  So the question is, how do I do it from either within PS or from Lightroom?
Do I need 2 layers, one for the ACR smartfilter and one for my NIK filters.  Can I do it with one?

  • Multi-Cam Clip Skipping, Dropping Frames

When I use this function, the video starts skipping although the audio remains constant. I only have 4 clips and an audio file imported, how can I get around this? I've tired doing research and I've heard it might help to convert the files from Pro Res to something else (if that's the case then how do I do this?)... Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It's usually caused by not having a fast enough computer or hard drive.
I assume you are using a separate drive for your media?
Try converting your video to ProRes PROXY as it will ease the burden onyour Mac.

  • My multi-cam clip went missing...

I just had to re-import all of my media to an event for a music video I'm editing, but one of the main clips I was using was a multicam clip... I've searched for it all over my computer, but it's no where to be found. So, where does Final Cut Pro X save multicam clips to?

Is the drive that this data was on connected ?
Try clicking on a clip and try to 'relink' and have a look where it expects the clip to be, and make sure the data is indeed in that place.
By the way, I completely unerstand the various woes and frustration you're having... I have other , different issues !

  • Applying Video Filters to Slow Motion Clips

Now I have done this before many times. Why is it when I apply a video filter to a clip( that is 50% speed already in my sequence) I can not see the video filter when I open up the effects tool to adjust the effect? For example when I put a glow effect on the clip and I adjust the brightness and I do not see anything happening it is as if the effect is not there. I know there is a simple solution to this

    Sure Tom,
I edited shots in my sequence, it is a montage of slow motion shots each around 1sec. long at 50% speed. I want to letterbox the shots and treat each with a filter. Strobe them or glow effect, etc. I am opening the effects window and dragging the filter icon onto the clip on my sequence. Then I double click the clip on my time line and open it in the viewer to adjust the filter. When I do this I can not see the filter effect. It's as if there is not an effect on the clip. Is it because I am trying to put a filter on a clip that is at 50% speed? Do I have to put it on the clip before I change the speed?

  • Multi-camera real-time editing skips the main video window ahead about a minute since update.

I'm working on a 2-camera edit, which I've done numerous multi-camera edits on this machine before with no problem, but now when I am playing back the footage with the multi-camera window and select the other camera, the footage in the main window (the one that shows the footage going on the timeline) jumps ahead about a minute.  It doesn't matter which camera is choosen, it causes either to jump ahead about a minute in that main window making it almost impossible to edit.
The footage doesn't jump ahead in the smaller, individual camera windows on the left, just the main window.  I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this problem just started occuring since the most recent update to Premiere Pro CC.  I installed that update last night and wasn't having this problem prior to that.
How can I remove the most recent update to test this theory?
    Specs:
    Premiere Pro CC 7.2.0 (46)
    Win 7 64-bit
    2x NVidia GTX 560 Ti
    16GB RAM
    120GB SSD (OS)
    2TB RAID 0 (Storage)

    Kendall,
Great video showing exactly what you're experiencing.  Thanks!  Wow, something definitely seems severely wrong when nothing has changed on your machine except the version of PPr.  Just a couple random thoughts (that probably won't make a difference):
    1. Are you using Multi-cam Clips (i.e. created the way most Adobe tutorials teach you to create them), or are you using a Nested Sequence with Multi-cam Enabled (i.e. the way most on this forum would recommend)?
    2. Does life get better when you exit Dropbox completely (or if you uninstall it)?
    3. Do you have other items, like Dropbox, running?  Close them all?
    4. Does the same thing happen with different kinds of footage formats?
    5. What version of Anti-virus?  Try turning it completely off?
Again, you've probably considered the last two, but if not, it's the first thing I might try.
For what it's worth, I'm running CC 7.1 on Windows 7 64-bit and I'm not experiencing this issue.  Not that it's ideal, but I performed the same test you show above while I was running Microsoft Outlook (a few emails open and 3 reminders), Chrome (about 15 instances with 2 or 3 tabs each).  Also, background programs running:  Microsoft OneNote (desktop version), Bluetooth and WiFi running, Spyder3 monitor calibration utility, CineForm Status viewer (a constantly running service of GoPro Studio) and Webroot Secure Anywhere.  Even under these quick and dirty testing conditions, multi-cam is working great for me in 7.1 (I use Nested Sequences; not Multicam-clips).  I had a real problem back in July/August that may have been brought about by using Multi-cam clips.  I switched to using Nested Sequences, instead, and I haven't had that type of issue since.
I hope there is something helpful for you in all of that.
    Best luck!
