Multi Clickboxes on Single Slide: Pause Movie, Play Audio

Hi,
I'm using Captivate 5. At the end of each module, I have a slide with several clickboxes on them. Ideally I want the audio to continue play (9 seconds) while users can click on each option multiple times (except for the one that jumps them to a different slide). In some cases, as below, I want a text box to appear, which I've set up using Advanced Actions.
Currently I have all the clickboxes with "Continue Playing This Project" de-selected. I also have "Pause project until the user clicks" de-selected for all of them.
All the clickboxes appear at the beginning of the slide and continue until the end.
There is a hidden clickbox that ideally should pause the project at the end of the slide until they click the Forward button. For that one, I have selected the option "Pause project until the user clicks" and have the pause time set up at the end of the audio.
Right now, if a user tries to listen to all of the audio, and clicks, the project continues to the next slide after the first click. If the user begins to click before the audio is complete, then the audio stops and the project pauses.
I have already tried the following:
If I select "Continue Playing This Project", the audio plays fine, but the project moves to the next slide after the first click.
If I try to stagger the clickboxes on the timeline and select "Pause project until the user clicks" for each clickbox, the project, and therefore audio, stops at the end time of each clickbox. The user then has to click the Play button.
If I stagger them on the timeline, and de-select "Pause until the user clicks", they are disabled too soon, and the user can't click on them multiple times.
Can I make this happen?

You won't be able to get this to work as you wish just by using the default Actions available in the dropdown lists. Except for the button which is supposed to advance the movie, you need all the other ones to continue in a paused state while the user clicks around.
To achieve this you'll need to create an Advanced Action for each of your buttons or clickboxes and select this action as what the button executes when clicked. In each advanced action, have the first statement do what you originally wanted, and then add a second statement that assigns the value of the system variable rdcmndGotoFrame with rdinfoCurrentFrame as shown below:
This should ensure that your movie remains paused on the same frame when the advanced action is executed.

Scoring multiple clickboxes on single slide

There may be an answer to this in the discussion threads, but I have been unable to find it.
I am building assessments consisting of a combination of quizzes and system simulations. For some simulation screens there are two methods for executing a task, i.e., double click an icon or access the file menu and select an item. I can achieve this functionality with no problem; however, if I assign a point value to both of the possible solutions, Captivate 4.0 sums both choices for the total score. Thus, successful completion of a simulation does not produce a 100% score. Can anyone suggest a workaround?

When I've had to do this I either reduce the passing grade to allow for the fact that people will choose one path or the other. I never set the required passing grade to be 100% anyway.
Another trick I've used is to set higher scoring elements on the slide where they would land AFTER taking either successful path. This way, no matter how they got there they get the same score.

Movies play audio-only with no picture

I've been having a weird bug with iTunes lately (I'm using iTunes 10.7 in Lion). Sometimes when I play a movie, I hear the audio but there is no picture, not even a black box. It's as if the movie is completey invisible. If I use the drop-down menu to try and watch in "full screen mode" the screen fills up with that gray fabric background that Apple has but still no picture on top of it. If I quit iTunes and then re-open it, then the movie suddenly plays fine. So it's not a serious problem but is very annoying.
I have two monitors on my computer - maybe that is somehow messing things up? Also, it doesn't happen all the time but it happens frequently. I can't seem to figure out any pattern or "trigger" that could be causing it to do this. All my iTunes content is stored on an external USB drive that is getting prettty full but I doubt that's the problem - although you never know so I thought I'd mention it.
Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

Try to disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash Player.

Cap5: Slide Pauses for audio

Hello,
I have a 25-second slide with 25 seconds of audio on it. On exit, the slide is to jump to the previous slide.
Also on this slide, I have several buttons, all of which last for 3 seconds. The idea is that the audio should play, the buttons disappear after 3 seconds, and at the end of the audio (and hence the slide), the project continues by going back to the previous slide.
But that's not what is happening. Instead, the whole slide pauses while the audio plays. So, although the full audio plays, the buttons do not disappear and the slide doesn't follow the assigned exit behavior. It just sits there when the audio is done. I have double-checked to make sure all the buttons disappear so nothing is causing the pause. Could the audio itself be causing the pause?
Just a bit more info. Here is a picture of my timeline. If I select "Preview this slide," it plays properly, but not if I preview the whole project. Advice is appreciated!

It's hard to tell from the screenshot, but it looks like your buttons are set to "pause after ___ seconds." You can tell because a line appears in the button on the timeline when this is the case. When the button will continue, there is no line.
Example:
It seems like the slide is waiting for some sort of action on the button in order to continue (or in your case, to "end" and therefore return to the slide you have set to "exit.")
It makes sense that it would work properly when you preview the slide because the buttons never pause during playback on the workspace. If you select "preview 5 slides" it will probably pause. So just make sure that "Pause after ____" is deselected and the buttons should continue.

How can I retain quality of mp3 with a single slide that lasts 30 mins?

hi. this may sound like a silly question but.. i am learning a language and have some language mp3 files. each 30 minutes long. i want to listen to them on my mobile phone.but the phone automatically shuts down the screen after so many seconds. so if i want to stop and start my language recording i have to look at the screen and then press once if it has not gone to sleep or twice if it has. i want to just press it in my pocket once for stop and then once again for start. the only way to do this is to convert my mp3 files to videos!!!! because then the screen does not sleep. i want to use a plain black slide as my picture. add the 30 minutes of sound and export as a VIDEO. i want to retain the (good) quality of the mp3. however this seems difficult. i end up with large files which are not so good on sound quality. i am not good at using iphoto. any suggestions or help would be most welcome. thank you. robert

The "movie" is made up in iPhoto with one image and the audio track and exported as MP4.
In your case you can export as File/Export/iPhone.

The latest .key I created is huge, .... Finder shows it as 5GB. Other .key of similar slide total are about 300-500MB. There is nothing different about this one. It is just .jpg files (photos) and text. No movies, no audio. Why so big??

iMac. 2.4GHz. Core 2 Duo. 2GB SDRAM. OS - 10.9.5.   Keynote - 6.2.2 v.1878.
I just completed a keynote slide show. The Finder indicates it is 5.25GB. It is 200 slides, no movies, no audio of any kind, no special transitions. It is just photos and some added text explanations. The individual photos are each 5-6MB, with about 190 photos total. I have other previous .key's about the size in terms of the number of photos and they are showing in the Finder as taking up 300-500MB. There is nothing different with this one particular presentation. I usually organize and store my photos using .key after a trip. Photos are downloaded into iPhoto (7.1.5) and then I build a keynote presentation by copying the photos as .jpg's out of iPhoto and into Keynote, with text as notes on or under each photo. Something changed with the latest keynote in terms of file size. But I can't determined why it required 5.25GB of disc space while other .key's of the approximate same size and content are only taking 10% of that amount. Anyone have an idea what is going on with keynote is this particular instance??? I know I could compress it, but I want to understand why the last time I used keynote the file size was so huge. Some additional information. In looking at the package contents info, under the DATA Folder there are several entries for each slide/photo in the .key presentation. There is a long list of contents that shows each image as:
    pasted-image-1234.png
and a second list right below that identifies each image again in the .key as:
    pasted-image-small-1234.png
Both of these lists show image files of 15-25MB for each photo, even though the original .jpg photo was 4-6MB. They list/show all of the images in the .key, but DO NOT show the added text. So it appears the package contents indicates two separate .png files for each photo in the .key, but the file size for each is 3-5 times greater than the original .jpg that was copy/pasted from iPhoto. And for some reason there are two copies of each.
There is also a list for the two following image/data files:
    pasted-image-small-small-1234.png
    st12-1234.png
Both of these lists show a file size of 100-200KB for each image, and again show all of the images in the.key.
Only the st-xx-xxxx.png list of images also show the added text.
Again it appears when I created the Keynote presentation by copy/paste images from iPhoto, Keynote stored multiple copies of each image as .png file several times larger than the original .jpg.   The completed Keynote slide show is so large is almost impossible to work with. The system is so slow that routine commands are not completed, e.g., trying to "save as" into a .pdf never finishes and I have to "force quit".
Still trying to determine why this occurred with the 6.2.2 version. Any chance I can delete all but the st-xx-xxxx image list and get back to a normal file size??

How do I keep movies playing as background through more than one slide?

I mainly use keynote for putting the words to songs up on the screen in church. I started using short motion backgrounds (regular video files), they look great but when I put them in the master, it restarts the movie for each new slide, so it starts and stops and looks real jumpy.
Is there any way to keep a movie looping through an entire slideshow and just get the text to change in front of it so that its real smooth?

It depends on how many slides you have, but one way to do it is to use builds to show and hide text boxes on a single slide. If you have the movie on the slide it will start to play when you first show that slide. If you build in the text box for the first song, then build it out with the next click, then build in the text box for the next song and build it out etc until you have done all your songs the movie will continue to play without skips.
With lots of text boxes sitting on top of each other you'll find it hard to do any editing so you'll need to have everything right before you start!

You can do this in two ways:
1. Drop your movie into the slideshow area either before or after your slideshow photos. When you click on Play All, your movie and slideshow will play as a single movie.

2.You could also put the movie and photos into an iMovie and then it would play as a single movie. You could put a chapter marker to denote the beginning of the slideshow so that the viewer would be able to choose 'Scene Selection' to choose the slideshow. If you want, you could change that text to read 'Play Slideshow'

My solution has been to create movies with my audio (.mov from final cut x) and insert into the presentation. They play in the presentation but I cannot get a smooth transition. The presntation must go to black and I have to double click for every "slide" that is done this way. I am on the verge of going back to powerpoint as my presentation platform. Seems there is little or no flixibility in keynote.

Photos Look blurry in the canvas when movie plays....CLEAR when I pause???

I am using BMP scanned picture files here, so first off I wanted to know if this is at all contributing to the problem?
I don't understand why the photo is blurrier when the movie plays, then gets clearer and more defined when i stop or pause the movie in the time line in the canvas????
Do i need a filter applied or is there something else i don't know about?

This problem used to dog me also when I first started on FCP.....but the moves on photos really do look crisp and smooth....
One way to check the quality of the phots (without an external monitor) is to export a portion of you sequence that has a photo in it as a quicktime movie. Then open and play that quicktime in the quicktime viewer.....you'll be able to see the quality and smoothness of the final product....
(Basically, when you see the quality of the photo in your fcp sequence (as it's paused), that's the quality you'll see once you export it and burn it to a dvd...)

I would like to create play/pause movie controls that for different flv files.
I do not want to use skins but have the controls as part of the movie/video.

When I export to QT movie, the video on a slide doesn't play and no playbac

I have a .mov file as content on one of my slides. when i play the file within keynote it works beautifully. the video plays as directed (either on click or automatically, depending how i set it up), and when the mouse hovers over the movie you get playback controls. When i export the presentation to QT, it no longer works. HELP!! i need to send thsi file out and now it looks like i'll have to spend all night recreating it in with a different application!
I have checked the box for embedding teh movie files. not sure what else to do.
Any suggestions??

ok -- i think i get it now:
it can't be set to Hyperlinks only (as that disabled the automatic playing of hte video, and it didn't recognize the 'click to play' option either).
and there's no controls for playback at all.
looks like if i want to give it the look of a still image that will play on click, i actually need one page with only the image and a link to 'play video' which actually takes you to a different page with the video that automatically begins to play (at least i'll try that next.)

Making movies play automatically on a slide in Keynote

I have a presentation that has still photographs on some slides and movies on some. I set the vids to start automatically but they only play a few seconds and then the next slide appears.

RTMP video repeating (playing twice) while Captivate Slide paused. Anyone else seen this ?

I have a project that is published as SCORM 1.2 with a bunch of RTMP videos served from CloudFront. I tend to set the Slide duration to 5 secs and the Buffer value to 3Secs and choose Auto-Play, Auto-Rewind Display for Rest of Slde, and select "Pause slide till end of video". These settings typically have worked fine but recently some of the videos are repeating (playing twice) while Captivate Slide paused. I've tried all sorts of combinations but it seems intermittent. I thought of not pausing the Slide and setting the slide duration to the video duration plus a little extra but am a little worried that if there is buffering that the Captivate presentation will go ahead before the video finishes. Could anyone shed any light ?

yes, they are SWF 8 files, and i see them separately after i
publish from captivate...is there a way to force them to embed (if
thats better)? it seems like it kind of randomly decides which it
wants to do.

Pause Movie and Play song file, sound is scratchy and hear movie sound

When I play a movie then pause and go to a music file the sound is very scratchy and I can hear stuff from the movie playing. Once it was a sound that just kept repeating, the other time i could the voices but they were in super slow motion. Any help would be appreciated in understanding this issue.

That is what is happening, I hope that they resolve this issue as it seems to be something I do quite often as everyone wants to see the video playback then on my drive home I kick off an audiobook for the drive.
