Multi database access in 1 component

Hi,
At the moment we're creating general components that look
like the examples in the CF MX Bible book.
In these components we've defined an application var that
contains the database name, so the component could be used by
multiple websites/application.cfc etc.
These components are also created in a general folder with
mappings redirecting to it.
We're working with some webservices options with the same
cfc, so we created a website with the home directory as our general
cfc folder.
This all looks fine and dandy, but let's say website A uses
database B and website C uses database D, all nicely defined in the
application.cfc of those websites.
And let's say that we've created a webservice from the
general cfc folder which checks addresses and returns the results,
if website A and C needs them.
The problem now is that the webservice website doesn't know
the application var that contains the database name for website A
or C.
I know that the address webservice is not really a good
example, since you usually just have 1 global address database for
it, but there are certain situations where website A needs to call
a webservice that checks a different database than website C.
I've been thinking of a solution, but I just want to know if
anyone has done this before or that they can share their idea about
this.

I'm against the idea of having the datasource as an argument.
Especially when working with webservices.
My own idea about it at the moment, is creating an
application.cfc in the webservices directory and creating the logic
which database it should select and set the application var with
it.
Altho your idea is workable, just a style preference I
guess.

  • Multi-Database Access

    I am attempting to access four databases with identical structure/tables containing information about data loading
    errors. I wrote a query providing a list of error ids with a count of each, which currently must be run in each database
    separately. A DBA suggested I write a PL/SQL anonymous block procedure with a FOR loop to combine the resultset
    from each database into an overall resultset, but it seems that connectivity would be an issue if I used conventional
    tools such as SQL*Plus or others which require connection to a database before execution of SQL or PL/SQL.
    Is there any sample code or templates which might provide clues on how to implement this requirement?

    Have you thought about creating database links in one of the databases to point to the appropriate table(s) in the other three?
    You could then use a UNION to get all the results into a single query.

    Hi Diarra,
    I checked my database and  the  4543 is not in the Student Edition. If you opened a schematic that was created in a higher version such as the Educaiton Edition and copied the part to your database, when you place this part you will get the access denied message. 
    Attached is a schematic with the part, you can open it and build you circuit around it.

    일반적인 MOAC Setup:
    1. HRMS에서 Security Profile을 정의:
    a. HRMS Management responsibility 선택
    b. HRMS Manager> Security> Profile로 이동
    c. Security Profile이 정의되어 있는지 확인 (OM responsibility 혹은 Site level로)
    d. 만일 아직 setup 되어져 있지 않다면 Operating Units를 입력
    e. 저장
    Note: 만일 위 d step과 같이 새로운 security profile을 생성하였다면 concurrent program 'Security List Maintenance'를 꼭 실행해야 한다.
    그렇지 않으면 multiple operating units가 OM forms의 LOV에 나타나지 않을 것이다.
    이 program은 multi-org access를 validating 하기 위해 사용하는 table에 data를 생성한다.
    Navigation: HRMS Management> HRMS Manager> Processes & Reports> Submit Process & Report> Security List Maintenance
    2. MO Profile Options setup:
    a. MO: Security Profile - 이 profile setting은 MOAC functionality를 활성화 한다.
    b. MO: Default Operating Unit - 이 Operating Unit는 OM forms과 report에서 default가 될 것이며, 이를 clear 하거나 변경하기 위해 LOV를 사용할 수 있다.
    Keep the MO profiles in sync:
    MO: Security Profile은 site와 responsibility level로 setting 할 수 있다.
    MO: Default Operating Unit은 site, responsibility, user level로 setting 할 수 있다.
    Application이 원하는대로 동작되지 않는것을 발견하면 이 profile options의 setting 값을 확인한다.
    3. OM setup:
    R12 upgrade 시 OM Profile에서 migrate 된 새로운 OM System Parameters를 확인:
    Order Management Super User> Setup> System Parameters> Values

    4. Form에서 hidden field 'Operatin Unit'를 활성화시키고 default folder로 저장:
    Sales Order and Order Organizer forms
    Quick Sales order and Organizer forms
    Sales Agreement forms
    Pricing and Availability form
    Other forms
    Note: Sales Order form에서 hidden field 'Operating Unit'를 'Show' 하기 전에 fotm안에 이 field를 위한 공간을 만들어 놓아야 한다.
    예를 들면 Customer Number field를 짧게 하거나 Operating Unit field로 이 field를 덮어씌울수 있다.

    Have you considered adding the exec apps.mo_global.set_policy_context call to your connection's start-up script?
    Tools -> Preferences -> Database -> Filename for connection startup scriptNot the most flexible approach, so I'm not sure if it is appropriate for your application, but just a thought. You might create distinct connection names with different start-up scripts for each org_id.

    Hi,
    One instance can have only one database.
    One database only can be mounted on one instance.
    However, many instances can access single database in case of Oracle Parellel Server
    configuration.
    Also, any number of databases can be created
    in the same oracle home, each uniquely identified with an instance name ORALCE_SID).

  • Regarding Provisioning a user to Database Access Tables

    Hi,
    I've just completed with the installation of OIM 9101 and upgradation of 9101 to 9102. I'm facing a bit wierd. When I try to create a GTC for the Database Access Tables, I'm not able to see Database Access Tables option, in the drop down list for the Transport Provider.
    I'm a bit confused if I've wrongly upgraded the system or if at all i've missed out some step. Though OIM seems to be ok and working fine.
    Any suggestions as to how to solve this ?

    Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
    This Error seems to occur because I was trying to attach certain pre-prop adapters within the default process form that is created while installing the connector. Roaming around the threads here, I came to know that this might be the problem as pre-props don't work fine when applied to the GTC's default form.
    To overcome this problem, I've thought of a solution wherein I should create a new Custom Process Form and then apply my pre-props. But for this approach, I'm stuck into the middle. How can I apply a new Custom Form to an existing Provisioning Process ? Is this fesiable ? If yes, where should the changes be made ?
    I tried changing the Table Name inside the GTC's provisioning process so that GTC can pick up the my new process form instead of its default process form, but that again gives an error saying :

    I'm still struggling with the same cube and this is my 3rd post and once i fix some thing the other breaks. Please forgive me. When i process my cube i'm getting the error:

    My question is when the error says column 5 (is it the column 5 in the DSV?) or is it the column 5 in the DIMENSION list?
    My next question is the DSV Query works perfectly fine , so why this error in cube? This is what i have in the query in DSV.

    I just counted the columns from the top:
    1) compliancejoin, 2) mowingsector, 3) caseclosedflag, 4) casehasvendorinfo, 5) mowingstatus, 6) assignedtovendor.
    I see now that your subject line talks about column 6, but you say column 5 in body of your original post.
    I don't know anything about cubes, but apparently there is some mapping problem when you run it from SSAS. (I assume it is SSAS, a part of the product I'm entirely ignorant of.) I figured that if you had got tripped by the zero-based numbering, you
    might be staring on the wrong column.

    I'm still struggling with the same cube and this is my 3rd post and once i fix some thing the other breaks. Please forgive me. When i process my cube i'm getting the error:
    Errors in the back-end database access module. OLE DB was unable to convert a value to the data type requested for column 5.
    My question is when the error says column 5 (is it the column 5 in the DSV?) or is it the column 5 in the DIMENSION list?
    My next question is the DSV Query works perfectly fine , so why this error in cube? This is what i have in the query in DSV.
    Please need help. In the below query both the column 5 (ArEASSIGNED TO VENDOR) in the CUBE and underlying table have the same data type and length VARCHAR(4000). Why is the process failing still?

    I just counted the columns from the top:

    I see now that your subject line talks about column 6, but you say column 5 in body of your original post.
    I don't know anything about cubes, but apparently there is some mapping problem when you run it from SSAS. (I assume it is SSAS, a part of the product I'm entirely ignorant of.) I figured that if you had got tripped by the zero-based numbering, you
    might be staring on the wrong column.

    Optimizing the load of the database
    Using table buffering
         Using buffered tables improves the performance considerably. Note that in some cases a statement can not be used with a buffered table, so when using these statements the buffer will be bypassed. These statements are:
    Select DISTINCT
    ORDER BY / GROUP BY / HAVING clause
    Any WHERE clause that contains a sub query or IS NULL expression
    JOIN s
    A SELECT... FOR UPDATE
         If you wan t to explicitly bypass the buffer, use the BYPASS BUFFER addition to the SELECT clause.
         Optimizing the load of the database
    2.  Use the ABAP SORT Clause Instead of ORDER BY
    The ORDER BY clause is executed on the database server while the ABAP SORT statement is executed on the application server. The database server will usually be the bottleneck, so sometimes it is better to move the sort from the database server to the application server.
    If you are not sorting by the primary key ( E.g. using the ORDER BY PRIMARY key statement) but are sorting by another key, it could be better to use the ABAP SORT statement to sort the data in an internal table. Note however that for very large result sets it might not be a feasible solution and you would want to let the database server sort it.
    Optimizing the load of the database
    3.   Avoid the SELECT DISTINCT Statement
    As with the ORDER BY clause it could be better to avoid using SELECT DISTINCT, if some of the fields are not part of an index. Instead use ABAP SORT + DELETE ADJACENT DUPLICATES on an internal table, to delete duplicate rows.

         Context advantages:  - no double fetch by DEMAND: 1. fetch, 2. get from buffer  - more performance (best SELECT-statement)  - better survey of code
    Use of PARALLEL CURSOR  increases the Performance to a great extent.
    INDEXES help to speed up selection from the database. The primary index is always created automatically in the SAP System. It consists of the primary key fields of the database table. If you cannot use the primary index to determine a selection result (for example, WHERE condition may not contain any primary index fields), you can create a secondary index.
    Optimal number of indexes for a table  You should not create more than five secondary indexes for any one table because:
    Whenever you change table fields that occur in the index, the index itself is also updated.
    The amount of data increases.
    The optimizer has too many chances to make mistakes by using the 'wrong' index.
             If you are using more than one index for a database table, ensure that they do not overlap.

    Given an object that is stored in a database, is it better to have the database access code in a constructor method, or a data access layer object? E.g. I have a Person class

    How do i filter on the report that is created by using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g?
    I have reprot A with link to report B, report B is created using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS. so it is just a table, but i need to filter out 2 columns.
    here is the query in REPORT B:
