Multi-lined form field?

Hi there
I just have a small question that I have been struggling with for ages! How do I create form field in InDesign for acrobat to recognize as a ”comment” field, where you can write more than one line? I know I can draw a box in Acrobat, but I also know that there is a way to create the ”table” in InDesign for so that Acrobat will recognize it as a field.
Thanks

Hi Peter
Thank you for your quick reply. I know that I can’t create the fields in InDesign, but lets say I create a line, Acrobat will recognize it as a form field. That works very well. The problem is when I want a field where you can write more than one line. If you see in this video, the guy explains that you can create a two Row table to get Acrobat to recognize it! But I simply can’t get it to work. It’s quite annoying if I would have to draw all these boxes my self in Acrobat.
He talks about it around 3:46

  • Query values in Multi Select form field

    I have a table and one of the fields is a multiple select box. It is currently working fine
    What I now need to do is create a report based on the individual elements in that field: (This report will really just do a count of the events for ownership purposes)
    Example:
    Table simplified:
    Name     | Teams Involved
    One     | TeamA:TeamB:TeamC:TeamD
    Two | TeamC
    Three | TeamB:TeamD
    Four | TeamA:TeamD
    Five | TeamD
    Six | TeamA
    Seven | TeamA
    Eight | TeamB
    The Teams Involved are populated from a Multiple Select LOV so the Data will always remain constant in spelling etc...
    TeamA
    TeamB
    TeamC
    TeamD
    I am trying to create a report that will show me the number of times a team is selected in the Teams Involved column and the results would look like:
    TeamA 4
    TeamB 3
    TeamC 2
    TeamD 4
    I am not very good with PL/SQL but assuming I might need to do a foreach loop type using the values in the LOV and the LIKE %LOVVALUE% but just not really sure
    any assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    As Prabodh pointed out, I'm placing a colon at the beginning and end of the value list before doing the LIKE, so every value in the list is guaranteed to have a colon before and after it.
    Of course, this could be a performance issue if your dataset becomes large--you're not going to be able to use an index on this column--in which case you'll want to go to a more normalized solution (a table for your teams, a table for your projects [or whatever], and a reference table in the middle), but then you'll need to worry about parsing your multi-select values via a view with an instead of insert trigger. I do this on my blog for assigning tags to posts; it's not difficult, but APEX--for whatever reason--doesn't expose triggers on views as easily as on tables.

  • Hello All. I am working on a form, but I need to format the leading in a multi-line text-field.

    Hello All. I am working on a form, but I need to format the leading in a multi-line text-field. The options for the text-field only show a font size option, but no other styling options. Is there a way to format the leading? Thanks!

    Not within ID, and I'm not sure it can be done in Acrobat afterward either.

  • Duplicate form fields across multi-page forms

    Hello!
    I have some multi-page forms which include a few identically laid out pages; pages which take a long time to manually set up (nearly 100 fields per page, of varying sizes and positions)...
    I tried to duplicate the fields from one page to the others, which worked; but they are identical fields, meaning text input into one will likewise be seen in the other pages. I need the other pages to be unique, even though they look identical (field-wise they look identical, the background images for my form distinguish the actual contents of each field).
    Copy/Paste is the same as duplicate.
    I can just do that and then manually rename a few hundred fields; but at that point I am not much better off than manually placing the fields. Some, but not much.
    Is there any way to do this?

    I would look at using the template object within for this task.

  • How to make fields required in an updateble multi line form?

    How to make fields required in an updateble multi line form?

    You need to create a validation item that is triggered when the user clicks the submit button.
    Set the validation type to "Function Returning Error Text".
    Then add your validation into the "Validation Expression 1" field. Something like:
    BEGIN
    FOR I IN 1.. HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F02.COUNT LOOP
    IF HTMLDB_APPLICATION.G_F02(I) IS NULL THEN
    RETURN 'Please enter in a value for xxxxx on line ' || TO_CHAR(I,'0');
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    RETURN NULL;
    END;
    As long as the function returns a string, an error is generated - as there is no single field where this error can be displayed, it will need to be displayed "On Error Page".
    If the return value is NULL, then the fields are valid and the submit process can continue.

  • Permanently save line spacing in a multi-line text field

    Me: Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro, Windows Vista
    (I think the people who will be using the form have Reader 7 on Windows)
    I work in a doctors' clinic, and we use phone message sheets to document conversations between the patients/us/nurses/doctors, and I scanned the form and made it into a fillable PDF for our secretaries to fill out more quickly. The "message" area has pre-printed lines on it, and the multi-line text field I placed there needs to match up to the lines. I used the Rich Text Formatting options to set it to "Exactly 24 Points," but I can't get it to KEEP the formatting permanently. The only way I could get it to save the formatting in that field was to put a space in it and then save it, and then give that to the 2 phone secretaries. It works perfectly the first time, but instead of just closing/re-opening the file to start a new message, one of the secretaries highlights everything in the "message" field and deletes it... which deletes the line spacing formatting. I've told her
    b numerous
    times to leave that starting space in the field, but she "forgets" so all of her messages look messed up. So is there a way to force that line spacing
    b PERMANENTLY
    ???? Here's a shrunken screenshot of the field -- I wish I could just erase the lines altogether so the spacing wouldn't matter, but the secretaries type/print the message out, then the nurses/docs write on the page with pen so the lines have to stay. http://img187.imageshack.us/my.php?image=notepreviewph8.jpg
    Thanks!

    You can set the font size of the text. Then play with the underlines in the original document to match the needs of the font that is used. Print to a new PDF and then use replace pages to put the new page into the form without changing the form fields. I was able to do this with a word processing document by adding underlining in the document with 12 pt and setting the font to 12 pt in the text field. You can play with the font, the border of the field, and the underlining in the original document to get the desired result. Is this optimal, probably not. However it does the job.

  • How do you create a form that has user permissions per form field for different user?

    I need to create a form that is used by multi people but each user needs to fill out different fields within the form. I need the first user to make selections from a list and save it to send to another (the selection fields then need to be locked). Then the other user checks one of the selections made by the first user and saves the document to send back to the first user. Not sure if this is possible. I would like the first form field selections not to even show as a highlighted field to the other user (like just be more like a text field). I want the document to be able to be used more than once. The list selections will change and need to be sent to the other user at least once a month or more. Has anyone done this?

    There's no built-in way to do that, but it's probably doable using a custom-made script to hide and/or lock the fields.

  • Getting text to wrap in a form field

    You need to enable the "Multi-line" option for the text field and make the field large enough to display the maximum expected entered text.

  • Printing all text in a multi-line text field??  Can it be done?

    I was wondering if there is a way to print out a multi-line field and have all text entered print as well.  Currently, anytime someone enters more information in a multi-line text field on our form than is set to show without scrolling, when a PDF is created for printing from the results page, only the text that fits within the specified size prints.  You can scroll within the PDF and read it all, but I can't seem to figure out how to get all of the text to show and have that field resize accordingly on the printed copy.
    Is there a way?  Thanks.

    Is there an easy way to determine the character count that is visible in a given multi-line text field when designing the form, so if I want to allow 500 characters, the text box I create is large enough for 500 characters?  Obviously I can just do a trial and error process using a cut and paste of 500 characters and testing it, but is there an easier way?

  • How do I create a Form Field Template?

    Does this not exist in the new version of Document Cloud? I would like to be able to add form field layers for signing an Invoice where the account information is going to be different each time I use the form - so the standard template will not work.
    Thanks!

    First of all, it's still possible to add library documents for pro agreement. This discussion centers on creating and use  re-usable form layers.
    So instead of having a document plus fields, this feature let;s you create a template of just the fields, which can be stamped on uploaded document.
    The help article from earlier, only discusses the second part  on how to stamp these layers on an agreement.
    It doesn't explain how to create field layers. Creating form layers is done by going to the dashboard>add Template to library.
    In an account that support it, it's here you get the option to create a reusable form layer.
    now as far as I'm aware this field layer feature only ever has  been a feature in multi user accounts. (So old echosign team accounts and higher) In the Document cloud that would be Document Cloud Enterprise premium.
    I even checked with an old pro account which hasn't been updated to the Document Cloud, and that doesn't this feature either.
    if you did indeed used to have reusable form layers as an option, were you using an Echosign pro, or a different type of account?
    However I'll check with our Product management to see if perhaps this feature can be made part of the Pro account.

  • Form fields disappearing when combining PDFs

    I'm having a curious issue where form fields that display properly in a one-page PDF document are disappearing when the document is combined into a larger, multi-page PDF document.  The individual page (created in Acrobat Pro 8) has 12 rows of checkboxes that show up when the document is opened in Acrobat Pro 8, Pro X, or even Preview.  However, after being combined into a 150-page PDF (with Acrobat Pro X), the top three rows of checkboxes have disappeared (and this occurs across all of the programs I just listed).  I've tried re-doing the offending page in both Acrobat 8 and X, and replacing it within the multi-page document (again, trying both Acrobat 8 and X) and once it's combined into the larger PDF, those top three rows of checkboxes always disappear.  I'm at a loss.
    Any suggestions for troubleshooting this?
    - Mac OS 10.6.7
    - iMac 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo / 3GB RAM
    - Acrobat Pro X (or 8)

    I'm combining them by using the "Combine Files Into a PDF" feature in Acrobat.  I've done this countless times before with no issues -- this is the first time I've seen this happen.

  • FormsCentral: Easily duplicate form fields

    Hi guys!
    I'm creating a form within FormsCentral that asks our members how many people are in their household. From there, I need fields like name, email, address, phone number, etc. to popup. If they answer, 4 household members, then I need those questions to popup 4 times. Any clue how to do this easily without me having to duplicate each form field individually? Thanks in advance! - Esmith07

    Hi esmith07,
    The functionality you're looking for isn't exactly there in FormsCentral. You can, however, work around it manually. How I would do it:
    1. When they fill out the information about Person #1, have an additional yes/no question asking them if they have another household member to include.
    2. If they click Yes, have new fields appear for Person #2 (using show hide logic: you will create those new fields in advance, but keep them hidden unless they click yes). Also include another Yes/No question asking if they have another member of the household to include.
    3. If they click Yes, repeat as needed.
    As the form designer, you have to anticipate your maximum number of responses per household. If you want to cap it at some number, say - six, for example, then after they have filled in the info for six people, and you ask them if they have any more, you could ask them to fill out the form again with the remaining name(s), or you could throw up a multi-line text box and ask them to include the same info, and then you could parse it out after they have submitted the form.
    It's a bit tedious to set up the first time, but it works.
    I hope that helps,
    Brian

  • Multi line custom field badly saved to database

    Hello community,
    we're fighting currently against a strange issue.
    All projects has some multi line custom fields to fill every week for project status.
    During this exercise, some of the comments seems not well saved to database.
    While coming back to the PDP, we are seeing a strange behavior :
    Starting from that, I tried to look in the database and the saved html format is badly formatted, you can see a </div> in the middle and a missing one at the end of the sentence:
    <div>Révision et approbation de l&#39;ODS de Facilité.</div> <div>&#160;</div></div> <div>Compléter&#160;le questionnaire à soumettre aux experts.</div>
    <div>&#160;</div> <div>Présentation et choix des experts.
    As of now, we did not find any reason why this is happening.
    While opening back the PDP in edition and saving back ,the problem is solved.
    This is annoying because we are treating the html code as xml for reporting as seen here (http://aboutmsproject.com/converting-rtf-to-text-in-sql-revisited/
    ) and this is crashing because of badly formatted html code
    any advices?
    regards
    Jérome

    Hi Jerome,
    I've seen this issue occur when text is pasted into the field from other applications, like Outlook and Word. I've not yet been able to determine how to get it to stop. The error then causes the invalid XML issue you are seeing. A former co-worker had successfully
    integrated the use of jQuery into PDPs. I'm wondering if they have a HTML clean function.
    Thanks for finding my post useful!

  • Multi Page form

    Hi,
    used the Insert Record From Wizard from Developper toolbox and it's working like a charm! However, my form is too long and I was wondering how I could make that form a multi page form.
    Is it possible to split that form in 3 parts, and by clicking to the NEXT PAGE button, have the form validation showed for the 1st part before going to the second part?
    Sorry for my english, I speak french,
    with thanks,
    Roseline Paquin
    Montreal

    I'm also trying to figure this out for a 5 page form (it's an application form). The only difference is that the client wants to wait until the end to capture the information to the database to avoid incomplete entries.
    I found some code (on a forum somewhere) that worked OK for the first 4 pages - it's in PHP. I then use ADDT for the final database entry to create the record. When you click to go to the next page (put the next page in as the form action) PHP writes all the previous page's data as a hidden input fields. Each field is named the same as the MySQL database columns.
    // lists previous form values as hidden input tags
    foreach($_POST as $key=>$value) {
    if ($key!="submit") {
    $value=htmlentities(stripslashes(strip_tags($value)));
    echo "\t
    \n";
    So I just include this little snippet just below the form tag on each page that I want to pass the form data to.
