Multi-object group

Question

Howdy folks
My apologies if this has been covered before, but I didn't turn up anything in a search.
I recently created a file with a "timeline" consisting of about 50 grouped objects - a bit horizontal line with various branch points and associated text boxes. Grouping them all together allowed me to employ the "magic move" transition to slide along the timeline from point to point for a nice visual effect.
Editing the file was a bit slow, but I didn't have any problems. Having saved the file, I'm now unable to open it. I get eventually get a generic "Keynote '09 is unable to open xxx" message after much grinding of the status bar. Quick Look takes a touch, but can open it up.
I've tried on both the computer I originally created the file on (a 2.26GHz C2D macbook pro with 2GB) and my home machine (a 2.4GHz C2D iMac with 3GB) under both my own and my wife's login profile with the same results.
My suspicion is that the large "grouped" object is to blame. I'd greatly appreciate any tips on a) getting the file to open again and b) making a more wieldy "multi-group."
