is there a way around the single parent limitation, and can anyone please explain to me why is this so critical to have only one parent please...

Yes, Solaris supports multithreading of a process via a couple of thread interfaces. I would suggest taking a look at http://docs.sun.com and look for the "Multithreaded Programming Guide" related to the version of Solaris that you are interested in. The guide completely explains the API's and has sample code.

Changing parent when not in multi-parent mode

We are currently working with ALLOW_MULTI_PARENT_WORKSPACES =NO. However, we have children that were created under the wrong parent.
1. Is there a way to move or copy the children to the correct parent without having to re-create them manually? Or are my only 2 options manual or multi-parent?
2. If I change the workspace to multi-parent, would the fact that the original parent was not created using the ADDASPARENTWORKSPACE stop me from using REMOVEASPARENTWORKSPACE after adding the proper parent to the workspace?
3. Is it possible to copy a child workspace to another parent?

Hi,
Workspaces cannot be copied or removed after they have been created. You can add another workspace using multi-parent but the original changes made to the table would remain within the workspace and would also prevent you from removing the original workspace as a parent.
These types of changes typically need to be done manually.

Need hierarchical chart that support multi-parent multi-child for each node

I'm looking for a charting solution to display the parent-child relationships between jobs in our job schedule. A given job may have 0 or more parent jobs and may have 0 or more child jobs. Similar to org chart but allowing child node(s) to link to more than 1 parent node. Any ideas...?

Correct; our job scheduler is InControl and I can pull the schedule data from there into our database for reporting. Ultimately my goal is to get the data from InControl into our database for reporting/visualization, and build an Apex application that will allow us to make changes to the schedule (add/remove/modify jobs and their dependencies) and then generate a report to serve as the job documentation for our team and for the schedulers to make the corresponding changes in InControl, and so the data center operators have up-to-date information for overnight support in the event of job failures. It's just that visualization piece that seems elusive, the rest is just writing queries designing the app, writing the report, etc.

it is possible, but a pain in the neck. the multiple children are no problem, that's part of the tree classes.
however, if a node has to have more than 1 parent you need to create a clone of that node and then you can add it to another parent. to keep the children you need to do a 'deep clone', ie clone the children as well.
the problems start, if you want to allow editing of nodes, eg add/remove children. then you need to make sure you propagate the changes to all clones (this applies [possibly] to explode/collapse and selection as well).

ADF 11g hiearchyViewer widget: can rendering of the graph be customized

The hiearchyViewer widget supports rendering a graph of one parent to many children nodes. I have a need to display a directed graph where many parent nodes is linked to a common child node . Is it possible to extend the hiearchyViewer widget to override the graph rendering algorithm? If the answer is yes, how may I able to do it, or is there sample code I can review? If the answer is no, how can I create an ADF widget that uses the same flash library the hierarchyViewer ADF widget is using to render its graph. Thank you.

The HV can't show multi-parents to a children relationship.
We are working on a new component that should be able to do that - hopefully it will make it into the 12 release.

Remove multi table property defined in Parent descriptor

I tried to remove a multi table property(which is defined in a parent descriptor) in a child, but it does not get removed.

Hi,
xml-combine is applicable when combining two or more xml definition files.
When you say it worked for you for a table of type auxiliary, the properties are in same xml or in different xml files?
In your case, you are actually trying to override a property from parent item descriptor in a child item descriptor.
I would suggest to have the testProperty removed from the parent item descriptor and let the children item descriptors define the testProperty.

Popup parenting issues in multi window

Hello folks,
I have a multi-window AIR application - there is one base
application window, but we currently hide that and use mx:Window
for all of our application windows. The application allows you to
open new windows to enable easy drag and drop between different
areas of content in the app. We use the addPopup method to display
a custom editor control when working a specific content item. That
means that you could have multiple windows open and each one
displaying it's own popup to edit an item that the user if viewing
in the window. 60% or so of the time, the popups work fine and
parent to the proper window, but the other 40% of the time, the
popup will parent to a different window. (I can post a link to a
screencast demonstrating the behavior).
The custom editor class has the following method, this is
called to bring up the editor window. We cache these editors,
following the advice for memory management by Sean Christmann and
others.

The _finishShowOnView method makes sure the instance of the

Popup describe is case-sensitiveI haven't had a case sensitivity problem with the pop-up describe - where it works, it works if the name in the code is in either upper or lower case (I am assuming the actual object name is uppercase). However, it still doesn't work properly for objects owned by another user - it only finds something owner by another user if the current user has a private synonym with the same name. Even then describing the synonym name pops up the table details and describing the table with owner prefix pops up the synonym details.
Ctrl+up-arrow or Ctrl+down-arrow to replace the editor contents from the history is great, but there is no ability to change the shortcut in the accelerators preferenceI agree with the frustration of not being able to change the Ctrl+Up/Down short cuts, but we will have to wait until they can improve it.
The SQL Worksheet window frequently loses it's syntax coloring ...I haven't had problems with that
There is no preference setting to control the starting point in the file system for File/Open or File/Save As...The File Open does remember the last four (?) directories that you have opened files from as short cuts, but being able to force it to open a specific directory by default would be good. The preference that Raghu mentioned is the directory where it looks for scripts when running them, rather than opening a file.

Multi level parent child relationship and datacontrol

I have an existing application with multi-level parent child tables. For example three of the tables in the applications are related as Table 1 ( parent of Table 2) ---> Table 2 ( parent of Table 3 ) --> Table 3. When i create ADF Business components using these tables i see only the nesting between the parent and its immediate child tables. How can i create a nested data control for Table 3 to Table 2 to Table 1?. We have a usecase where we need to access data from the child table to parent to parent in the reverse order. Currently there is no direct relationship defined between Table 1 and Table 3.
Any thoughts?

Handling cascading LOV (having Multi-Select parent LOV)

I am using cascading LOV.
P1_PARENT - Parent LOV (which is multi-select)
P1_CHILD - Child LOV
since Parent LOV is multi-select, so it will have the following vallues... P1_PARENT = AA:BB:CC
and the where clause in the cascading LOV should be like
       where col1 in (:P1_PARENT)
   - So how to convert item value for P1_PARENT from AA:BB:CC to 'AA','BB','CC'
- Is there is any other way to handle cascading LOV (for Multi-Select parent LOV).

Multi-Org Parent-Child LOV

Issue Description:
in Action BC (Table: S_EVT_ACT) we are trying to implement the following organization based parent child picklists/LOVs for Status->Status Reason
[Status] - Activity Status field (col: EVT_STAT_CD)
*Picklist: LOV Type = 'EVENT_STATUS', picklist BC: 'List Of Values Dynamic (REL)'
[LN Status Reason] - customised field/column (Col: X_STATUS_REASON)
*Picklist: LOV Type = 'LN_MISSED_ACTIVITY_REASON', picklist BC: 'PickList Hierarchical'
*Pick Map: [LN Status Reason] = [Value], [Status] = [Parent] (Constraint = Y)
in the Admin-Data LOVs:
Type = EVENT_STATUS, Display Value/LIC = "Not Achieved", Organization = "Org 1"

On UI, create new record in Account - Activities, selecting Status = "Not Achieved".
Now when i try to select the Status Reason value, the drop down does not give me any value.
If I set the Organization to blank on "Reason 1", then the "Reason 1" value shows up in the Status Reason drop down under Account - Activities.
In SQL of the log file, for the Status Reason drop down, it always hard code a T1.BU_ID is null in the WHERE clause, this would explain why its blank in the dropdown
Also as a test, If i remove all the pick map constraints for the [LN Status Reason] field (ie the only record in the pick map is [LN Status Reason] = [Value]), then the drop down works correctly (ie displaying both the values with Organization = "Org 1"), and in the SQL of the log file, instead of BU_ID is null, it has BU_ID = ? with variable binding.
Is there a reason why it would hard code the BU_ID is null in the WHERE clause in the SQL, and how to overcome this to achieve my requirement.
Just a further update due to character limit of the original description,
The "Owner Organization Specifier" property on the table S_EVT_ACT is blank (not sure if its related to anything though)
The user i'm using belongs to "Org 1" for both the employee's Organization and its Position's Organization

How To hide a column on a Matrix using a parameter that is set-up as a multi-select

Hi,
I have a multi-select parameter (has 4 choices ie. A,B,C,D). In the matrix the parent Column group is a date and the child group is based on the Multi-select parameter field. When all choices are selected the report returns a column per
date and then within that date column 4 sub columns as expected.....This all works.
Challenge ... I added another column (Col5). For Col5 I only want it to show if value B has been selected from the multi choice
Another way of saying it.... How do I get a column to appear (Visibility) if a specific Value has been select in a multi-choice parameter

BOM: Finding Children Nodes For a Given Parent Node

Hi,
I am trying to find the longest path for a particular BOM material. I am using the FM CS_BOM_EXPL_MAT_V2 to explode the BOM to get the materials (including children nodes etc.). I think, in this scenario, a recursive function would be the best way to go. The problem is to find the children nodes for a node in a particular level. Looking at the structure STPOX and the fields STUFE (Level), WGEXX (path) , TTIDX (index) and VWGEX (path, multi-level), I cannot find a logical way to link the children nodes to a parent node although visually I can see how things are connected when the FM returns the STB table..
For example: TBL_STB returns from FM:

Visually, we can tell that Level 2 has one item 2, level 3 has 2 items, 3(a) and 3(b), Level 4 has 4 items where 4c and 4d are connected to 3a and 4e and 4f are connected to 3b.
Going through STPOX structure itself, how can we find out that 4c and 4d belongs to assembly 3a but 4e and 4f belong to 3b?? If someone can explain the uses of the differnet indicators in STPOX (or other) where I can find out the children from the parent, it would be greatly helpful to write the recursive function..

Figured it out myself

Multi-row sub query returns ORA-00904 :invalid identifier error

I am creating a report from two tables that I am not joining. I want a single line for every row in table1 that meets a date range. Table2 can contain none or many rows for each recored in table1. I want to get up to two fields from table2.
I was using a case statement to check if there was data and then an in-line query or subquery. Once again, the idea is to have a single line on the report for each table1 record.
I get this error with the code below. It seems the nested multi-row subquery can not see the a.cr_mas_cr_no identifier.
ORA-00904: "a"."cr_mas_cr_no": invalid identifier

Thanks for the reply I will try your suggestion.
I will try and explain why I think two subqueries (an in-line query with a subquery?) are required. I will use the creation of the column RTP #1 as the example as the RTP #2 column is only different in the rownum selected.
Looking only at the lines that fail, here is my analysis. (If I rem out the two case lines the query runs, I just don't get two columns of data I need.) I will only examine the first case as the second is changed to extract the second approval via the rownum = 2 criteria. The first statement checks there is at least one RTP approval stored for the request and then gets the user who approved the request if the test is true.

I moved the parenthesis to the correct location. There can be multiple approvals for a given parent record. Some parent records need one, some need two approvals. If I replace

with
(select appr_user from approvals where appr_cr_no =a.cr_mas_cr_no and appr_type = 'RTP' and rownum = 1)
The correct result is returned because it returns exactly one row as rownum=1 limits the query. When rownum = 2 then the query returns null as the rownum never gets to two as the rownum column is built via the set created by the second subquery.
The subquery builds a set of approvals for a specific "cr_no" and appr_type of "RTP". the outer query then looks at the rownum of the second query

So here is what I think is happening;
1. Main query From and Where are processed. This should provide the "set" for the query
2.The from subqueries for RTP #1 and RTP #2 should be able to access the a.cr_mas_cr_no field and build a set from the approvals table.
3.The RTP #1/2 subquery (inline maybe a better description?) would then get the correct row from the from subquery.
The error "invalid identifier" refers to the a.cr_mas_cr_no field. I assume it means it can not resolve the table alias inside the subquery.
So maybe your grouping would help, I will try.
