Multibyte character error in SqlLoader when utf8 file with chars like €Ää

hello,
posting from Germany, special charactes like german umlaute and euro sign in UTF8 Textfile, SqlLoader rejecting row with Multibyte character error
Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
Database Characterset: WE8MSWIN1252
OS: SLES 11 x86_64

Select shows correct result, no character is wrong or missing!!!!
put this in a UTF8 file without delimiter and enclosure like
10987654321098765432109876543210987654321
the SqlLoader controlfile:
LOAD DATA characterset UTF8
TRUNCATE
INTO TABLE utf8file_to_we8mswin1252
ID CHAR(1)
, TEXT CHAR(40)
on a linux client machine, NOT the Oracle-Server
export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
sqlldr user/pwd@connectstring CONTROL=TEST01.ctl DATA=TEST01.dat LOG=TEST01.log
Record 6: Rejected - Error on table UTF8FILE_TO_WE8MSWIN1252, column TEXT.
Multibyte character error.
Record 7: Rejected - Error on table UTF8FILE_TO_WE8MSWIN1252, column TEXT.
Multibyte character error.
Select shows missing characters in row 4 and 5, SqlLoader loads only the first 20 characters (maybe at random)
and as shown above, row 6 and 7 never loaded
Problem:
can't load UTF8 Flatfiles with SqlLoader when german umlaute and special characters like euro symbol included.
Any hint or help would be appreciated
Regards
Michael

## put this in a UTF8 file without delimiter and enclosure like
The basic question is how you put the characters into the file. Most probably, you produced a WE8MSWIN1252 file and not an UTF8 file. To confirm, a look at the binary codes in the file would be necessary. Use a hex-mode-capable editor. If the file is WE8MSWIN1252, and not UTF8, then the SQL*Loader control file should be:
LOAD DATA characterset WE8MSWIN1252
TRUNCATE
INTO TABLE utf8file_to_we8mswin1252
ID CHAR(1)
, TEXT CHAR(40)

  • SQL Loader Multibyte character error

    Hello,
    Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
    Database Characterset: WE8MSWIN1252
To load an utf8 File (UTF-8 Unicode text) i use option characterset UTF8 in controlfile.
All went fine until in textfile the column is filled up with 40 chars and
    german umlaute included (ÜÖÄüöä...)
    Loader stops (errors=0) and gives:
Record 146466: Rejected - Error on table 'TableName', column 'ColumnName'.
    Multibyte character error
    * use CHAR(40) and POSITION(start-end) for field description - no help
    * modify column, from VC2(40 char) to VC2(50 char) - no help
    * without characterset UTF8 option i got wrong characters for german umlaute - no help
    * manual insert the data from this row with NO problems !
    any hint or workaround?
    Regards
    Michael

    Hi Werner,
    on my linux desktop:
    $ file test.dat
test.dat: UTF-8 Unicode text, with very long lines
my colleague is working on a windows system.
On both systems exact the same error from SQL Loader.
Btw, try with different number of special characters (german umlaute and euro) and there is no chance to load without the error
when to many (?) special characters or data is long as column length and special characters included.

    Hi,
startet SQL Loader Multibyte character error
    {thread:id=2340726}
some mod locked the thread, why?
    the solution for others:
add LENGTH SEMANTICS CHARACTER to the controlfile
LOAD DATA characterset UTF8 LENGTH SEMANTICS CHARACTER
    TRUNCATE
    INTO TABLE utf8file_to_we8mswin1252
      ID    CHAR(1)

  • SQLLDR - Multibyte character error

    Hi,
I am loading a file which have unusual characters e.g.KAROSSERIE-CENTER-OBERROá,
My sqllder control file needs to be position based e.g as per below, but the character is at the end of the field. looks like the character is taking up two spaces and the position cannot handle it, i need to keep is as postional, anyway around this.

    Hi Werner,
    on my linux desktop:
    $ file test.dat
test.dat: UTF-8 Unicode text, with very long lines
my colleague is working on a windows system.
On both systems exact the same error from SQL Loader.
Btw, try with different number of special characters (german umlaute and euro) and there is no chance to load without the error
when to many (?) special characters or data is long as column length and special characters included.

First, technical questions need to be addressed to an appropriate technical forum. The Products | Database | Globalization and NLS forum would probably be appropriate for this sort of question.
Second, are you seeing a particular Oracle error (ORA-xxxxx)? Are you using a front end? If so, which front end?

  • Photoshop CS6 (Mac) crashes when opening files with type or using the type tool

    Hi,
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing when using the type tool or when opening files with type on it. I've quit suitcase, disabled the suitcase plug-in, reset the preferences in Photoshop there's no crash report coming up either the application just dies! I am currently trying a system restore from time machine to see if that works!. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks

  • Dreamweaver very slow when opening files with external links

Is there any way to fix Dreamweaver CS5 (Windows 7, 64bit) when opening files with external references?
For example, I have a very simple CSS file, and toward the top the file has a line that says:
    @import url("https://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Ubuntu:500,700");
This causes the file to take around 20 seconds to open in DW. If I comment out the line or remove it, the file opens almost instantly. This behaviour is also present in files that contain an SSI.
DW often crashes before being able to open the file and I need to restart the app.
Can I disable DW from attempting to load the references?? It's obviously what is causing the issue IMO and would love to make DW workable again!

"Enable Related Files" isn't the fix for this issue. It's slightly different - I wanted to still load related files, but only the ones local to the file I was editing.
The fix was to use DW's Resolve To IP Address feature. It required adding a registry value - it fixed the issue straight away

  • When a file with extension .htm as a product from Epilex is opened, there was a notify a screen, "This epiLearn is not supported on Netscape browsers. epiLearn supports Internet Explorer 5.5 or above. Please launch it in Internet Explorer"

My company has decided to use Epiplex software.
But when a file with extension .htm as a product from Epilex is opened, there was a notify a screen,
"This epiLearn is not supported on Netscape browsers. epiLearn supports Internet Explorer 5.5 or above. Please launch it in Internet Explorer".
I prefer to use Mozilla than Internet Explorer. Would u please handle Mozilla browser along this problem to be available in this matter?

This might be simple but it works well for me.
    1.
Right click on the tool bar in IE8 and uncheck adobe PDF to disable.  Click yes when it ask if you are sure.
    2.
    Open Adobe
READER located in the start menu.
    3.
Click on Edit and then on Preferences.
    4.
    Select the "General" category.
    5.
Click on "Select default PDF handler"
    6.
Adobe Reader should be already selected. Change it to reader if it is not.
    7.
Click on "Apply" and except changes.
    8.
Restart the computer and you are done.
Now you can open and save PDF's from IE8.  Once you save it, you can right click and "open with" Acrobat if you choose.
Be careful to not make Acrobat the default or you have to start over.
You can still create PDF's from docs, scans, and picture like before.  You might think this is a work around but it really isn't.
Some forms that are available on the internet can't be opened by Acrobat for security reasons.
Good luck!      P.S. I am not an IT tech but I play one on TV.

  • Error when import file with non-english character

    Hi,<br /><br />I have images file with non-english character (unicode), for example ABC<X>.png where <X> is non-english character such as japanese, chinese, etc.<br /><br />Whenever I want to import the file to After Effects (right click -> import -> file), I always encounter error:<br /><br />Finding file/dir info for the file "C:\...\ABC?.png" -- file not found (-43) (3::30)<br />Can't import file "ABC?.png": unsupported filetype or extension. (0::1)<br /><br />My PC is Windows XP Professional 2002 SP2 English.<br /><br />How to solve this problem?<br /><br />Thanks

Adjust your system language settings. Proper file name conventions require a consistent Unicode environment, so install the respective foreign language support files or switch the language system-wide. Mixing different zones/ code ranges is always a bad idea. If your system is not in Japanese, AE will always misinterpret the characters and refuse to import. If that's not feasible, simply rename the files.

    Any help in this.

    Hi,
It's seems are you using char function in your report?
If yes, Change the char size .
    ex: cast(column name as char).
    A. Cast(column name as char(300)).
I am not sure this is what your looking so far.
    Award points it is useful.
    Thanks,

    【Note】
When normal request(application/x-www-form-urlencoded), submitted value is not garbage characters.
Filename & File content of uploaded file is not garbage characters.
I confirmed by debugger that stored value in temporary file is not garbage characters.
    HttpServletRequest#setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8") is used.
    enctype="multipart/form-data"を指定しないリクエストでは文字化けは発生していません。
    アップロードしたファイルのファイル名及びアップロードファイルの中身自体は文字化けしていない。
    アップロード時に出力される一時ファイルの中身をデバッグ実行して確認したところ、この段階では文字化けしていなかった。
    HttpServletRequest#setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8")も実行しています。

The basic problem is not obscure, it has come up countless times since Tiger was released. See this note and try Fix C (dingbat) to see if it will help:
