Multicast in SP cloud

Dear all,
I wanted to know why do we enable sparse mode in SP cloud when we are using SSM also. (ip ssm default). Since SSM dosent need any RP then why we need the sparse mode together to be used with SSM in the SP cloud.

you can check the mvpn discussion. Hritter answered " SSM uses PIM-SM with a few modifications. RFC4601 section 4.8.1 defines the modifications to the PIM SM protocol to support SSM. Beyond these modifications, all normal PIM SM functionality and messages are required, including periodic join messages.

  • Adding Time Capsule (for Multicast DNS) to existing router

I have recently moved into a place where I am sharing internet with others (family).
My macs can see their PC's.  My macs cannot see my macs.
    Wireless Macbook Pro
Hard wired Mac Pro into Netgear router.
I am pretty sure it's because their router, (Netgear, has regular and 5g band) does not have multicast DNS capability, which I understand is necessary for macs to see each other on the network.
I have an older Time Capsule (the one with one band, and no guest login network) that works just fine when it's configured to be the only router on the network.  It's worked for years at my previous place using DHCP thorugh a DSL modem.
Question:  How do I add the Time Capsule to this network to get Multicast DNS capabilities?  OR... is there a different way of getting my macs to talk to each other and still have the internet work?
My relative is a gamer and very particular with his electronics and I don't want to 'remove' the Netgear router from the equation, but I do want my macs to sync up.  I run sync jobs to keep certain folders up to date in two places.  (No, I don't want to use a cloud for some of this stuff).  I have limited experience configuring networks -- I tried plugging in the time capsule into an ethernet port on the netgear router, but I must have configured it wrong because there were conflicting IP addresses and the internet became unusable.
    Thanks in advance.

The  TC should work ok in bridge mode.
Just go into the airport utility and ensure your TC is bridged.
All routing should be happening on the Netgear.
The printers should then be accessible to the computers.. BUT the TC seems to hate new setups.. I strongly recommend you simply factory reset it and redo the setup.
Use SMB type names.. that means short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
And sometimes if you want to print the client will have to connect to the TC and not the Netgear. Mavericks in particular seems to have real issues working with a TC that it is not immediately connected to.
I run somewhat similar setup and right now my airport utility utilty shows the entire history of my network fiddling.. i will have to figure out how to reset airport utility.
As you can see nothing is available because I am plugged into the main router.. my equivalent of your Netgear.
Now I turn on wireless and connect that directly to the TC, lo and behold, the world comes to life.
That is because the new airport utility totally depends on wireless. It is absolutely useless if you use ethernet.
Also remember to check the computer has ipv6 set to link-local.
Apple have made this essential part of the airport network.. you should do this for both wireless and ethernet in the computer. And check that it is set correctly in the TC.
So for example here is what wireless in the computer looks like.
And in the TC. It is in the internet tab under the internet options.

  • EIGRP Routing across MPLS Cloud

I appologize if this has been covered but I dont see any exact hits...
We are working with our Service Provider to implement MPLS between our remote sites and main campus. We are currently using PtoP T1 in a hub and spoke model. We are running EIGRP in our entire environment.
We would like to continue to run EIGRP in our environment but the SP does not support this protocol through the cloud. I would prefer not to introduce any new routing protocols into our environment such as BGP. (I believe SP is running BGP).
I have read snippits that I can us e GRE tunnel between sites and send EIGRP routing updates via this tunnel.
Can anyone support this method or are there better alternatives? If I implement GRE, I will still need to configure static routes so GRE knows how to reach the remote sites. I also cannot find any literature on how to configure GRE tunnels and use them ONLY for routing updates. I would think sending all traffic via GRE would cause additional overhead.
I will also have a need to send Multicast traffic between sites. I have read that GRE is the way to do this. To me it seems GRE will serve dual purposes.. first to allowing Dynamic routing updates between sites and also to allow Multicast traffic.
I appreciate any comments or suggestions!

    Hello Phil,
using GRE tunnels to build an overlay would deny one of the greatest benefits of MPLS L3 VPN: the peer model where each CE talks only with local PE node.
unless you have a small number of sites this approach is not recommended.
What if a new site is added in the future? you would need to configure a tunnel GRE to the new site in each of the existing sites.
You could run a DMVPN  ( that is to use mGRE) to solve this but it has some complexity.
You can run BGP without using mutual redistribution: BGP allows to advertise internal networks using the network command even if they are not directly connected to the CE router but learned via EIGRP.
So it is enough to redistribute only BGP into EIGRP by setting a default seed metric (it requires five values in EIGRP and it is necessary or redistribution will not occur)
    router bgp 65001
    neigh PE-address remote-as SP-AS-number
    network 10.10.10.0 mask 255.255.255.0
    network 10.10.20.0 mask 255.255.254.0
    no auto-summary
! note:if auto-summary is disabled you need to provide the exact mask / prefix length
    router eigrp 100
    redistribute bgp 65001
    default-metric 10000 1000 255 1 1500
! BW delay reliabilty load MTU

  • DMVPN DUAL HUB SINGLE CLOUD CONFIGURATION EXAMPLE

    Hi,
I am looking for a simple configuration for a dmvpn network running eigrp with two hubs on a single cloud.
Do i just create two nhs entries, nhrp map entries, and two multicast entries on the spoke router tunnel interfaces?  And on the hub routers add a delay on the tunnel interfaces for the one i prefer to be the secondary?
I am looking for confirmation and any other tweaks i need to make. i cant seem to find any examples.
    Thanks in advance!!

Thanks Paul, I have looked over this design guide as this was the fist place i went.  however, i cannot find a configuration example for dual hub/single cloud.
i see the high level design and know you can do it.   but it doesnt show what the configuration would look like...unless i am just reading over it.
    Thanks

  • An MPLS Cloud

    Hi,
I'm looking at a topology where a number of collapsed PE/P nodes (50>100) access a L2 cloud in a full-mesh topology.  The underlying cloud architecture could be something like VPLS from an external provider with the MPLS domain mapped on top.  The attached shows the nodes on the periphery of the cloud and these could be spread globally.  What I'm looking for are pros and cons and whether there is a case study or CVD for this type of topoolgy.  Particular interest is on scalability around IGP, LSP's, sub-optimal routing conditions, IGP/LSP synchronisation, IGP link/domain costs etc...  The network will provision L2/L3 VPN's and other standard MPLS features.
    Thanks, Wayne

    Hi,
You'd need to implement QOS for sure. What many people do is to have data traffic use precedence/EXP 0 and Voice precedence/EXP 5. You could make the video traffic precedence/EXP 4, for example. This also maps to certain DSCP values.
You could also consider MPLS Traffic Engineering (TE). There is point-to-point TE for your data traffic, but you could also deploy (check platform and IOS support) point-to-multipoint (p2mp) TE to carry the IP multicast (video) traffic. With TE, you could steer traffic through the network and have fast protection (FRR). You'd still need to use QOS, because MPLS TE does not automatically hook into QOS.

    Luc

  • Multicast, L2TPv3,EoMPLS support

My requirements are to support Multicast for future deployment and vlan extension over a MPLS ISP( ISP is provding ospf handoff)
I will have to use a software based solution since the tunnel needs to start and terminate on 3845s so L2tpv3 which is router-based solution is a good candidate.
Also EoMPLS does not support multicast I would have to use a GRE tunnel to provide support for multicast.
With MPLS over GRE with EoMPLS feature I am looking at a maximum mtu size of 1570 and if voice is deployed over this then each tiny voice packet will have a pretty big header compared to the header. here i would need to use an additional GRE tunnel for multicast support.
With L2TPv3 it would add 20 bytes of header.
So would l2TPv3 and a gre tunnel for multicast be a good design??
I am thinking using L2TPv3 for layer 2 extension and a GRE tunnel for multicast support.

    Hi,
it depends on your multicast application, and topology. Normally I've seen implemented the multicast transport over MPLS cloud in two ways:
    1. Multicast over MPLS, using MDT like a GRE tunnel:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk436/tk428/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080242aa8.shtml
    2. Multicast over VPLS istance (treated like a broadcast):
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk436/tk891/technologies_q_and_a_item09186a00801ed3bf.shtml
Today multicast is not label switched (last Farinacci draft is dated 2003).

  • Enterprise Adobe Cloud

Is there any plan for an enterprise version of adobe cloud?

    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/creativecloud/buying-guide-membership.html
    Creative Cloud for organizations
Later this year, Adobe will release Adobe Creative Cloud Team, a version of Creative Cloud membership specifically for organizations. Until then, Creative Cloud Team Ready gives companies immediate access to all the CS6 tools and more, plus it serves as an onramp to Creative Cloud Team when it's available.
Volume licensing customers can take advantage of the Creative Cloud Team Ready offering through Adobe’s Transactional Licensing Program (TLP) which is based on a one-year term agreement and is available for purchase through any Adobe corporate resellers. Customers who choose this option will automatically be transitioned into Creative Cloud Team membership as soon as it becomes available later in 2012.

  • Can I purchase Creative Cloud subscriptions for longer than one year at a time?

I work in the design department of a large business, currently using Creative Suite 6 (Design Standard edition, which includes PS and AI).
I'd like to get the some of the new CC features, but my manager won't commit to a turnkey month-to-month or even annual rental of Creative Cloud apps (it's a pain for our department's purchaser to have to do orders more than once a year). That said, if they could take care of, say, two years at once, I might get the software. Is this an option? I'm one of only a few folks who use Adobe software (it's not a design business; we're just part of a small design department, and all software purchases need to go through this person, after which they're reimbursed). I'm not interested in any of the extra storage or central administration options that come with the higher priced business subscription.
    Thanks!

Are there any unique benefits that come with my paid membership?
Yes, as a member of Creative Cloud, you get many benefits that you do not get when you purchase a traditional shrinkwrapped product:
Access to both the Mac OS and Windows® versions of the desktop applications and the ability to install them on your primary computer and one backup computer. So, if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, you can install your applications on both as long as they are not running at the same time. • How can multiple users use the same Creative Cloud Individual on one single-machine?

We have one shared graphics workstation, which is infrequently in use by different people - therefore we bought a single-workstation license (which we were referred to "Creative Cloud Individual"). In the FAQs it says it installs locally, but whenever a user different from the installing adminstrator logs in, he is forced to use the trial.
Is there a way to make the local installation usable on that single machine for multiple users?
